Inu X Boku SS Episode 3: I’m too cool for school!

Let me remind you that I'm not going to spend my time goofing off in the mansion for the rest of the show. I can't forget school.

At least we’re getting somewhere with this week’s episode, mainly character development for our main heroine and her SS. I can’t help but say that last week’s episode almost made me dozed off, fortunately Ririchiyo still remembers that she (plus the residence of the mansion) still needs to attend school. Lots of D’AWW and a couple of LOL moments compared to episodes one and two. There’s still no signs of progression for Ririchiyo attempting to open up and make new friends, but on the bright side we get to see her family situation and how she was raised as a child before moving to Ayakashi Mansion and also explaining her current personality problem that needs to be fixed. To the contrary, I thought I might have to drop watching this after seeing the preview but I’m having second thoughts of dropping it as you’ll know why later after the jump.

P.S.: Realize the last three posts in THAT all have exclamation marks on the titles?

The defense of Taichi – It’s me against the world!

Blasphemy! DFCs and small breasts rule the world! Chihaya!!!!!

I’m a new writer in THAT. My nickname is Impz. I am going to write a single post about how I love a random anime and then I will disappear into thin ash like the thousands of defunct bloggers in the blogosphere ahead of me. Of course, this starting is really awkward because I forgot how to blog. Hence, the term “new writer.” Anyway, the story why I have been away for such a long time would be one boring story. Most of you won’t know me :)

The reason why I am back for a one-time only offer is due to Taichi. From what I heard from an avid reader of the blog, it seems that there is a war against Taichi, a main protagonist in the shoujo anime Chihayafuru. Based on a very cursory (like 2 comments) scan, there are two camps in the anime, a Arata x Chihaya camp and a I-can’t-bloody-stand-Taichi group. While I have no problems with the Arata x Chihaya camp at all (even though honestly, it seems that it’s more of a deep-down friendly rivalry than any romance), I have difficulties understanding the other group. I can fully understand why they don’t like Taichi at the start. I didn’t. However, based on a purely objective view, is Taichi that bad?

Using the words of my wife 13sugars, is he a true-blue spoiled coward obou-chama?

Chihayafuru – 16: Yuri Prevails!

Chitose is like evil Chihaya.

Well it was a re-cap ep this week which kind of makes sense as we are at the half way point and need a few small reminders. Thankfully they laced it full of omake to keep things from getting too boring. For the most part the jokes were pretty good and there was oh so much shipping ammunition used up. For the Taichi shippers I suggest you take your lumps and write a crappy fanfic where Taichi wins, its official Chihaya is more into girls and karuta than Taichi. I know this is a an utter shock to losers like Michiru, but you know what… welcome to the 21st Century and in the 21st Century we do not tolerate discrimination based on sexual orientation so keep your backward prejudice to yourself. Still congratulations to Chihaya for coming out the closet and confessing her love for Kana-chan.

Aquarion EVOL – 04: To Infinity

So while the NFL Season marches on without me and I am reduced to pulling for Tom Brady and the Patriots due to my hatred for New York City teams (Go Bills!) Kawamori is going to be Kawamori in Aquarion EVOL. While a bit whinier in terms of cast at least it seems that we are in the thick of the fun part. I am no usually a fan of High School hijinks but they do a great job in EVOL where things are more over the top and Amata and Mikono’s self-doubt is kept to a minimum and show enough signs of proper progress on their road to redemption. We also get a bit of information on Donar who is the only known survivor of the last Aquarion incident and if given how he’s more machine now than man it very possible that his two partners did not survive that tragedy.

Natsume’s Book of Friends s.4: Fear and Loathing in Natsume

This post is largely about the latest episode to air, episode 4, of the fourth and current season of Natsume’s Book of Friends, but contains light spoilers for the previous seasons. It’s a stand alone episode focussing mainly on the story of one youkai, one of the many who have encountered Natsume to date, and can be enjoyed as a gently creepy, humorous, and romantic tale in its own right. However, for those of you who haven’t seen it yet, to get the most out of the show as a whole thus far, I would recommend going back to season one and giving it a ‘two episodes test’. Yes, that’s a fair few episodes in between those two and this latest one, but, quite frankly, this is a wonderful series and you’d be doing yourself a disservice not to start off with how it all, so beautifully, began. Right, now that that’s out of the way, on to the highlights of this latest episode, which showcases so many of the things that I’ve come to love about this show.

Moretsu Space Pirates – 03: Space Pirate Cadets

Alright...so who has been looking at illicit material when Marika was away?

Well it is another universe building episode for Space Pirates and at this point it seems clear that the staff really wants us to buy into how ships will be handled in this series. It was rather lengthy when they tried to explain the intricacies and reasoning behind electronic warfare I just hope that they will apply it consistently and by the look of things they will. It was kind of confusing though since things moved very fast and we had an unreliable narrator in Chiaki who seemed overwhelmed by her own lack of understanding of what precisely was going on with the Odette II’s EW system. My guess is though that since the Odette II was a military ship that the previous owners didn’t remove all systems when they sold the ship. It makes some sense as the ship armor was left intact as the weapons were removed in case they would have to re-commission the ship if the need was dire.

Rinne no Lagrange – 03: Battle Hymn of the Jersey Club

Talk is cheap and Madoka will not listen.

It’s been a rough weekend for me but at least Rinne no Lagrange is still happy and genki as ever. While I am sure that the possibility exists that Moid is the evil final boss so far all we have is that he has his eyes closed. Still I have faith in Lan that she is doing the right thing. As I suspected Lan is a princess and her presence on Earth indicates that that L’Egalite is losing the war against Demeteria. It seems clear that there is a tragic fate for those who achieve memoria with the Voxes, and while Lan is afraid it seems that for her it was something she still had to do out of duty. Fact is I don’t think that Lan was really responsible at all for giving this fate to Madoka as I suspect that Madoka had already achieved memoria with Vox Aura (Midori) when she almost drowned ten years ago. Where I think Lan did feel guilty was that she was a princess who had failed in her duty to accept her fate and pilot Vox Lympha in a time of need.

Inu X Boku SS Episode 2: I think my SS is a golden retriever, or an American cocker spaniel

Nobara's thinking of assaulting both Karuta and Ririchiyo sexually once she gets the chance. Lesson learnt: Never underestimate the power of moe.

I decided to stick along a little while for this show and observed an obvious drop of animation quality (but not to the point of being despicably off-model, even in many crowd/far shots) in this week’s episode. It’s pretty much Ririchiyo and Soushi-centric this week and I do find myself getting bored with the aforementioned characters, without offering anything new to the table as I put it. I do find this show following very faithfully with the manga so expect lots of screenshots, particularly with Soushi in it this time. Not to offend any fans out there, but I’m hoping to see Soushi interacting with the other characters aside from Ririchiyo in upcoming episodes (otherwise he’s going to have a ‘Satellite Character’ tag stuck on his suit for the rest of the year) and watching him reacting to the antics of the other characters other than chuckling at it might make him a more interesting person to watch. Same principle applies to Ririchiyo too. After all, what’s the point of being attached to the characters if they don’t undergo character development to point out their flaws and improve on it?

Amagami SS+ episode 03 – Redeem Yourself, AIC

This is your second chance, AIC, don’t screw it up.

Now we’re on to the second afterstory arc, Rihoko’s, and here we should, no!, we must get the proper ending the arc and Rihoko deserved the first time around! While the Rihoko arc was still fun and cute and enjoyable, it lacked the GOOD END that all the other arcs, even less well written arcs, got. So now is the chance for things to end as they should. But before they can end, they begin, with Rihoko and Junichi the only current member of the Tea Ceremony Club. Rihoko still enjoys the support of Kanae, Rukko, and Manaka, but it’s going to take that and more to break through both Rihoko-arc Junichi’s cluelessness and the confusion caused by a possible rival.
