Durarara!! Episode 4 – Dullalalahan

I’m beginning to think that Durarara!! might be following a specific pattern with these episodes. It seems that they’re alternating between episodes where Mikado is the main focus and episodes where they focus on a different character as well as their background. Episode 2 was focused on a minor character, the girl who was kidnapped and her past and it was an introduction to Izaya and a bit of Celty. This time it’s all about Celty and her doctor friend Shinra.

We discover that Celty (or Selty) is actually a Dullahan who mysteriously lost her head 20 years ago. However, she should still feel its presence and followed it all the way to Japan. This is how she met Shinra at the tiny age of 4. Their relationship started out far from normal as Celty was promised a place to stay in exchange for letting Shinra’s father perform an autopsy on her. Shinra was also forced to dissect the mysterious being. Celty gets a lead on someone who has claimed to have seen her before back in Europe. She finds him in hopes to find any clues on where her missing head might be. However, it turns out that the man just doesn’t know how to draw the missing head. Shinra makes a suggestion that maybe Celty doesn’t need the head as he likes her better that way.

Shinra is a bit of an odd fellow. Of course, being forced to perform an autopsy, living being or otherwise, probably influenced a bit of his personality. Not only is he in love with someone who is immortal, but he prefers his women to be headless… maybe since he won’t have to hear her talk all the time. >.>

It’s kind of nice to have a voice for our headless rider for a change. I think it gives the character a bit more personality rather than just leaving her seeming emotionless.

Looks like Charlie’s Angel got a new cell phone. =P

Whenever I see quick regeneration it reminds me too much of Baccano! now.

Not much else to say about this episode. It looks like things will pick up with Mikado and friends again next episode. Looking forward to next week!

I enjoyed the interaction between Shinra and Celty. If anything I’m more interested in the Shinra’s character compared to Celty. Celty doesn’t feel as mysterious as before this episode, her motivation and personality is rather plain. And what she is and her past is laid bare in this episode.

Shinra on the other hand, he has a much more interesting personality and feels unpredictable.

Yeah, there’s not much left to learn about Celty except what happened to her head pretty much.

$5 says that the girl with the neck scar is Celty’s head attached to some spare body, probably in connection with the yet to be introduced female doctor. Also, the female doctor has the same family name as the kid who’s chasing after the unnamed neck scar chick.

I bet you’re right! The body probably belongs to that girl Anri was looking for and it would explain why she figured it was the wrong person when she saw her face. What still remains a mystery is how Seiji and Namie (the female doctor) got involved in all this.

You actually can see Celtys head in the opening:

And yeah, the haircolor is more or less the same as the scar girls.

I agree, if you watch the girls hair color, length, and eye color change drastically. Sure you can say that you can your hair color/get it cut/put in contacts but the real clincher is that the girl’s neck scar is not shown when during the flash back but in the normal time its there.

Lol, instead of $5, I’ll bet you an e-cookie. If the girl with the scar has Celty’s head, then where’s her original head?

        I believe I win this bet, it wasn’t Celty’s head :D

Not a bad episode i did enjoy Celty getting a voice finally matches well to me,as for the head in the jar i think it could be hers or like Nopy said the other girl with the scar too. Shinra seems a bit..strange about Celty but guess hes obsessed of her, I did like how the two of them interact bit of a love hate relationship.
