Duty calls…

I am doing some field work at the moment…

[EO’s edit: this post was originally titled “Going on [that word which is part of our blogger’s name)” but that particular word seems to get filtered by the local internet in his current part of the world.] So if you have noticed a dip in productivity it’s because my dumb ass got deployed to CENTCOM and the lead up to it was characteristically fraught. Well right now I am already in theater, as to where I cannot say all I can tell you is that Prince Ali has called for a war of liberation against the Azadistani occupiers and their Zeke allies. Also since the light of Shining Zeus has yet to reach this hell hole it is high time the Azadistani and Zeke infidels be taught to fear Almighty Zeus and his improvised ROCKET PUNCHES. We intend to communicate with OUR FISTS and I personally plan on shooting a thousand Zekes and kill them all for you. Blogging-wise I can’t download worth a damn here so it will be retro blogging until I get back home and I will miss blogging Arakawa and K-On and hope someone else here takes up that banner. Well I had been anticipating this for sometime and have already amassed a decent stockpile of older series to revisit in between running Zekes down to the ground and shooting up their Gaws full of wounded. I also got a sizable amount of loot to go with it so I think that I have had a good run so far. So in the event that the Zekes Zerg Rush me I won’t regret it and will see you all eventually as we try to get by Saint Peter into the very exclusive club they call heaven.

My new shelf.

Well it’s the start of a new year and hopefully this move thing will go over more smoothly this time. Given how much down time there was I guess I’ll take this chance to try and get back into the groove of things. I guess it would be alright if I went on a more personal tangent though hopefully my life won’t come off as boring compared to usagijen’s adventures in rabu rabu. Being a cynic I am also a fatalist, and I just got deployed am in country, to where you don’t need to know and unless you have been hiding under rock for all this time you can probably make a good guess. So long story short depending on the fickle finger of fate this might well be my last year of life given how my occupation is deadlier than most.

2009 was a hell of a year, while it was most gloriously filled with yuri on a personal level a lot has changed and the adjustment is taking me longer than expected. I managed to graduate this year and was predestined for a deployment so I avoided the unemployment line. On that level I am rather fortunate considering the economic situation, and I also got promoted, but with rank comes in increased responsibilities. It is here that my recent spate of stress derives from, being military in a rather liberal area doesn’t make for much of a social life (also going from college to a deployment ramp up also limits how much time I have to goof off while off base) and having to deploy with people means I’d rather get away from them more often than not since we have to get real cozy in squad bays for Zeus knows how long. Still I did finish blogging G Gundam, got a Sheryl Figure, had a wonderful year of glorious yuri, and a new shelf so I think I have had a pretty good run. I have plenty of regrets, not finishing Gundam Unicorn, seeing the Macross Frontier Movie, kowtowing before the Troll of Trolls Kawamori, among other things. Still all the more reason to be make my own photo op of being Gundam of Gundams albeit over a pile of dead Zekes and Kataron scum.

With the start of my own Crusade against the Jihad-kun factions and their hated Zeke allies I might as well declassify part of my bucket list that I plan on watching. You will note that what is listed only encompasses stuff I have bought to support the industry though those who know will note that it has come a little late for Geneon and ADV, such is life I suppose. Just so that you all know I am technically a sailor but I have not served on a ship in like ever and I pretty much fill the role of ersatz Infantry and will probably drive more Army vehicles (no Strykers, Bradleys, or Abrams sadly) than boats. Suffice to say my Highway to the Danger Zone doesn’t involve an F-14 and is bit more literal to boot.

So here is the list so far though the date of my orbital drop into New Mombasa is still in the air… (though I do hope that the Master Chief will be there)

Gakuen Alice
Ghost in the Shell 2nd GIG
Galaxy Angel (parts of it)
Full Metal Panic TSR
Wedding Peach
Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross
Cromartie High School
School Rumble S1&S2
Galaxy Angel AA
True Tears
Ouran Host Club
Kannazuki no Miko
Gundam Wing
8th MS Team
Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket
Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory
Crest of the Stars
Banner of the Stars
Sailor Moon (plus R, and Super S)
Macross Plus
Ultra Maniac

As for the rest… well that is OPSEC and details will be released as progress is made though right now I am making steady progress with Armored Trooper VOTOMS. For the time being I suppose I could take requests for regular posts from the list of declassified series. Seeing as how that this might be a harsh year for me with limited connectivity when in theater I might not be able to post lots of screen caps let alone attempt to keep up fully. Despite the richness of the declassified list I was most disappointed in that I was unable to locate a discounted copy of G Gundam anywhere but, I saw plenty of copies of that crap called SEED and GSD but not so much as a single disc of Master Asia. If this really goes long at least they have a Fedex drop off point and the USPS is okay even if they go through all your mail that goes in and out. Recommendations as to what to start first are more than welcome.

“Watching the Macross Frontier movie” is among your list of regrets? Would you care to elaborate on that topic? Since it is eagerly awaited by lots of fans and if its going to be bad, I’d rather be forewarned.

    Nice Sheryl figurine, though. :)

I meant I regret not being able to watch it.

It took a while for me to pony up the money but it is a nice figure, and wait to see what cool costumes Sheryl will get when the movie hits.

Yes I never finished it all I remember is that Mikan goes on a journey to be with her beloved Hotaru. Why is this surprising but Sailor Moon is not?

      • Posted May 6, 2010 at 8:23 pm | Permalink

Well, I guess it’s because that Sailor Moon isn’t too surprising a series, as most of the folk of my age group watched it. Seriously.

Keep your head down out there.

Thanks but I still intend to communicate with my FISTS.

Did Gakuen Alice suck or something? No one seems to be batting an eye about Wedding Peach or Ultra Maniac.

It didn’t, it’s just this cute and quirky series you wouldn’t expect a ground pounder to watch.

Wedding Peach? What’s that? XD (Selective Amnesia! Field up!)

Deploying for real is a lot different (and with higher stakes) than going for a training exercise, one experience the likes of servicemen in my country will almost never have.

Stay safe, weapon ready, full belt in the -240 and may the Goddesses of Victory (Sheryl, Hiromi, Tessa, Lafiel et. al.) be with you…

It’s called the suck for a reason, at least during training you get to have unfiltered internet or at least get to see glorious yuri.

They only gave me a M-9 and M-16… T_T oh well less difficult to clean at least.

We cannot comment on Sailor Moon, we are most likely all guilty :D.
But I don`t think, this series is blogable in the usual way.

And you really have to watch Ghost in the Shell 2nd GIG. After two episodes 10 years ago (~16 years old), I decided to study computer science and help to build this powerful all-connecting web with all its AIs.
.. *muttering and waving with her arms while preaching* ..
.. Uh ok, I`ll go back in my private corner to imagine the future ^_^.

Aren’t the only wars we’re fighting in land-locked countries? Iraq is connected to the Persian Gulf, but only in the south.

The only other reasonable area the Navy could be in, is the Seabees in Afghanistan.

Interesting. A quick google search reveals the Seabees are being asked to deploy in that country as part of the reconstruction effort.

I could be wrong though. Just a guess.

  15. Marigold Ran
    Posted May 10, 2010 at 9:48 pm | Permalink

If they’re sending in the Seabee reserves, we’re going to be in Afghanistan for a very long time…

The problem with any of this guesswork is that goodness knows that I’ve been wrong in the past. Also, a quick search through military news is that some Seabees get deployed to Africa.

This “fact” brings up another interesting question: what commitments do we have in Africa that requires construction people? We have one base in Cape Town, but the places we’re really interested in is near the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, etc.). All of this can easily be found with a google search. Of course, I got none of this information from you since you’re very good at keeping secrets.

    Just shooting the breeze.
