T.H.A.T. Summer 2010 Anime Preview

null
This has been buzzing in my head for a while. Excitement ensues!

Welcome to THAT’s summer 2010 season preview! Most information comes from ANN, MAL, Moonphase (Moonspeak for the win!) and/or Wikipedia synopsis, images from the same in most cases unless I am forced to engage in the translation of moonspeak, and that isn’t pretty butchering of the language. Anyway, it’s been ages since I (Impz) last started an anime preview, so bare with me. I also added a few more nuggets of information that might be useful for you, the reader, in our newest edition of the preview. I will also use a Crusader’s public announcement for a timely reminder.

A Message from the NKVD: Well its time once again to point out this is a preview, and not a review. That “p” makes a difference a very big difference in fact. On another note many of us are old grouchy mean spirited cynics that wield M-16s and get high off the smell of burnt dead Zeke in the morning, and not wide eyed idealistic fat cat communist colony dropping Zeke NEETs. If you are part of the “animu is SRSfkn business” part of the fandom do yourself a favor and just read the summary from ANN so you can preserve your fragile optimism for your harem animu. Other than that Liberty Prime is watching and ready to initiate directive 7395, destroy all communists also I am multitasking at the moment and am in Jihad-kun’s base killing his dudes.

p/s: On other news, we have closed our applications for our search of bloggers for T.H.A.T. We have received 20++ entries and counting, and we will shortly inform all the applicants of their application status. Check your email tomorrow or the day after!

Shukufuku no Campanella

Animation Studio: AIC
Website: http://www.mmv.co.jp/special/campanella/
Available Trailers: Trailer 1.
Source: Adult PC game
Genre: Harem, Adventure
Release date: July 1st
Details: Director did the dreaded Omamori Himari and Strait Jacket. I don’t think this will go well for everyone…
Summary: The original fantasy adventure game from Windmill Oasis is set in a port city known as the “treasury of the world” for the great riches that pass through it. The city is in the middle of preparations for a special harvest festival for the mysterious energy source known as Ēru, as a “Day of Shooting Stars” lights up the night skies. Leicester Maycraft is a young item technician who lives in the city as part of the Oasis adventurers clan. On the “Day of Shooting Stars,” one shooting star lands near a party that Leicester attends. When Leicester searches for where the shooting star landed, a girl appears before Leicester and says, “You are my Papa!”

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: So the little girl declares “You are my Papa!” to which I must inquire, “Where is my mecha?”
Calawain: I liked Onamori Himari (even if it wasn’t as good as the manga), I like AIC, harems can be fun, and I like eroge. So, no hate for me. I do worry it will become Japanese cliche fantasy scenario #53413413, but why not give it a shot?
ExecutiveOtaku: Looks like they’re going for a harem with a bit of an Aria feel to the setting. Sleep-inducing trailer hasn’t gotten me any more excited for it either. It’ll get a one episode look from me if it’s lucky.
Impz: There are two big reasons why I am not interested in this. First, it is an adult PC game that clearly has a harem. Second, AIC inspires little to no confidence for me simply because it is yet another cute girl series by them again. What should I do? Stay far, clear and away from this harem crap.
Reverse Vampire: Oh god…AIC, what are you doing these days?

Animation Studio: Daume
Website: http://www.okiagari.net/
Available Trailers: Trailer 1.
Source: Manga
Genre: Horror
Release date: July 8th
Details: The director is working on this and the Break Blade movies (I think the first one’s is showing in Japan.) Can’t say much about the director. The person in charge of the music can be trusted with quality since he did worked on Ayakashi (Japanese Classic Horror), Jigoku Shoujo, Mononoke as well with other series. So far, I can trust this series can be control by the production’s own hands.
Summary: During a fiercely hot summer in Sotoba, a peaceful and quiet village with a population of 1300 people, a series of bizarre deaths begin to occur. At the same time, a strange family moves into a long abandoned mansion in the region. Hospital dean Toshio Ozaki cannot figure out the cause of death in the deceased, initially suspecting an epidemic. As investigations continue between the hospital staff and the residents, it turns out that the village is being attacked by vampires.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: I liked Mononoke might give this one a shot if I get faster internet in time…
ExecutiveOtaku: Definitely interested, will give it a three episode test. I just hope I don’t get burned like with the last horror/mystery anime I watched, Ookami Kakushi.
Impz: Wait what, the animation company of Ichigo Mashimaro is suddenly going for a horror movie. This is interesting. I think I might be actually hooked to trying one episode with this. In addition, Fuyumi Ono of the Twelve Kingdoms and Ghost Hunt fame is the source material for this? Totally in it.
Reverse Vampire: Yes yes yes!! Like the build-up of the manga, though the first few chapters could bore you out with too many medical terms. Still recovering from that headache, but this kicks the Twilight out of you. I’m in on this one!

Summary: -TBA-

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Pass.
ExecutiveOtaku: Digi-yawn.
Impz: Gonna catch em all!…Wait, that’s pokemon. No thanks, this is as kiddish as they come.
Reverse Vampire: No comments. Next.

Amagami SS

null

Animation Studio: AIC
Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/amagami/
Available Trailers: Trailer 1
Source: Dating simulation
Genre: Harem, School Life
Release date: July 15th
Details: The production crew lacks experience and brilliance overall. Yoshimasa Hiraike is the director here and his latest work is Working! He did do Sketchbook though, which in my opinion, is quite an under-rated show and the director will also take charge of the series composition.
Summary: The original game centers around a second-year high school boy who find himself uneasy during Christmastime due to an experience in the past. However, this year at Christmas, he gets his last chance to ask out a graduating female senior named Haruka Morishima — or one of several other classmates. The story of the anime will be arranged in an omnibus format, with each heroine getting her own version of the story animated. Each heroine will sing her own version of the ending theme song.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Will watch if Santa beats the boy to death with a lump of coal, because that would be awesome.
Calawain: Be watching it for DAT HAIR. Good lord that is some sexy hair on the far left chick. Also, I’ve read some of the translated manga with the girl in the middle, she’s pretty devious. Something light hearted I assume.
ExecutiveOtaku: I REALLY like the idea of having each of the possible stories told separately, though that alone won’t make the series. The show sounds like it could have promise though, and those character designs from the guy who did the designs in Kimi Kiss: Pure Rouge (a favorite series of mine) made me take notice. I’ll give it a three episode test and if I like it, I might blog it.
Impz: Once I see dating sims and then AIC, I knew my answer. NO!
Reverse Vampire: Art looks nice, but I’m not into dating sims. Sorry.

Sengoku Basara 2

null

Animation Studio: Production I.G.
Website: http://www.sengokubasara.tv/
Available Trailers:
Source: Game
Genre: Shounen, Historical
Release date: July
Details: This anime is getting a prime-time slot, so it will be interesting how it will fare in Japan. Kazuya Nomura’s debut directorship will be quite interesting as well. He was involved partially in the first season’s episode 11 directing.
Summary: In the bloody Warring States period of feudal Japan, many generals fought in an endless struggle for power, but one man proved to be too big a threat – The dark lord Oda Nobunaga. Sanada Yukimura and Date Masamune, two young warriors from different regions who become heated rivals, begin to form an unlikely alliance with the rest of the generals to take down the Devil King.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Putting my GUNZ ON!
Calawain: Gintama parodies of this were almost as awesome as this show. The first season was wicked manly awesome, and I’m definitely up for watching the second. Put ya Engrish on indeed.
ExecutiveOtaku: The first season had me at “Put your guns on!” and “Ooyakata-sama! Yukimura!” Will watch, though I’m not sure it would be my kind of show to blog.
Impz: GAR GAR GAR GAR! You know, I watched the first series for the lulz. If the second series continue with more lulz, I am so watching this and blogging random stuff.
Reverse Vampire: I would perhaps watch this, but I won’t talk about it. HAM!
Shokkeru: Ohhh yeeeeaaaaahhhh!

Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin

null

Animation Studio: A-1 Pictures
Website: http://www.occult-gakuin.jp/
Available Trailers: Trailer
Source: Original
Genre: School life, Supernatural, Comedy
Release date: July
Details: Takahiro Chiba will direct the animation, like what he did with a bunch of episodes of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone. However, the big name here should be the art director. He is Yusuke Takeda and he produced some beautiful backgrounds at Seirei no Moribito and True Tears, both anime which had absolutely top notch background animation. Very solid production crew overall.
Summary: The horror and school comedy story of Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin revolves around mystery and supernatural cases at Occult Academy, a fortress-like academy city. It takes place at a private Japanese academy dedicated to the study of the occult, and haunted by strange phenomena. The story revolves around Maya – the daughter of the school’s president who died in 1999, and “Time Agent” Uchida – a mysterious man who travels back in time from 2012, who was once a “spoon-bending” boy.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Hey look thigh highs…
ExecutiveOtaku: Difficult to tell at this point. If it goes the ridiculous, non-serious route than it could be gold, but if it takes itself even moderately seriously I’ll drop it. It gets the three episode test.
Impz: This is by far a very interesting concept, but I am not too sure about the consistent quality of A1-pictures. I think I might give this a shot, but I doubt I will be blogging it.
Reverse Vampire: Not as mysterious like Night Raid, or not moe enough for Sora no Woto (Yes, I know it’s not cute girls doing nothing.) in terms of appealing factor. I’ll take a look on this one to see how good or bad it is.

The Legend of the Legendary Heroes (Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu)

null

Animation Studio: ZEXCS
Website: http://www.denyuden.jp/
Available Trailers: Trailer
Source: Manga
Genre: War, adventure, Shounen
Release date: July
Details: Itsuro Kawasaki is the director and has directed some half-decent shows such as Rental Magica and Sengara Basara. I doubt you will expect Last Exile epicness from him though.
Summary: The story revolves around Raina Ryūto, an apathetic student who always dozes off at the Roland Imperial Special Academy. One day, Raina and his classmates get caught in the war waged by the opposing Kingdom of Esutabūru, and he loses many friends. After the battle, Raina goes on a quest on behalf of the Roland Empire and Emperor Shion Asutaaru, even as the darkness that has enveloped the land has begun to consume the empire.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Lack of Galactic Heroes is making me uninterested, unless it really gets MEDIEVAL I can’t seem myself watching this.
ExecutiveOtaku: With a name like that, I’d expect a parody show. Seems ultrageneric, plus the obvious Code Geass/Kuroshitsuji ripoff with the eye thing. Japan typically does Western-style fantasy shows poorly, so with all those factors together, I’ll be skipping this one.
Impz: Meh, Shounen Code Geass stuff. I ain’t interested in it, and it’s ZEXCS. ZEXCS, imho, is bad.
Reverse Vampire: *Shakes head.* Next.
Shokkeru: Title is a bit redundant isn’t it?

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi

null

Animation Studio: JC STAFF
Website: http://www.otogi-bank.com/
Available Trailers: Trailer
Source: Light novel
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Release date: July
Details: Yoshiaki Iwasaki is very experienced in such type of light-hearted shows, and can surprise. The series composition is done by Michiko Itou, who might prove to be the Achilles’ heel of this show. She has hardly done anything amazing of date.
Summary: The story centers around Ryōko Ōkami, a high school freshman girl known for her fierce looks, unusual canine teeth when she smiles, and wild demeanor. (Her family name is homonymous with the Japanese word for “wolf.”) Ringo Akai is a short high school freshman girl with seemingly cute, angelic looks but a dark demeanor. (Her name is a Japanese wordplay on “apple” and “Red Riding Hood.”) Together with their odd friends, the two fight to change the world, one issue at a time.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Does Ami-chan come back older and HAWTER by chance?
ExecutiveOtaku: I’m hoping this show is greater than the sum of its parts, because the preview isn’t making it stand out to me. Blatant tsun tsun Taiga clone seems like it was required or something, they even mention the tsundere character archetype in the preview. Only one bit of obvious fanservice in the preview may bode well for it, but I’ll still only be giving it one episode to demonstrate its worth.
Impz: You like Taiga? You watch it. I am not sure if I will catch this. However, if this goes into over 9000 MOE, I will drop it like a hot potato.
Reverse Vampire: Wait…when did Taiga grew taller over the past years? And has our Ryuuji became a coward in that short period?

Animation Studio: GoHands
Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/seitokai/
Available Trailers:
Source: Manga
Genre: Comedy, School Life, Romance
Release date: July
Details: The team is made of mostly Princess Lover crew. This is going to be awesome! /sarcasm.
Summary: Tsuda Takatoshi is a new student in the recently gender-integrated high school. He’s asked to join the student council as the vice president. Thus begins his days as the only normal boy among 3 female student council officers…

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: I voted for more mecha…
Calawain: The description doesn’t exactly tell you what the show is about. There’s a couple of chapters translated of the 4-koma, and its mostly deadpan humor and dirty jokes. I enjoy that type of stuff thoroughly, so I reccommend those who enjoy slice of life and comedy to give it a try.
ExecutiveOtaku: Depends on the type of humor in the show. I’m not going to hold the studio’s lack of record against them, but there’s so little to base my judgement on. Will try the first episode to see how it goes.
Impz: Seems like crap to me again. In addition, I have no clue where GoHands come from. They don’t seem like they have ever headed any animation, and generally have been assisting other animation production companies. I am not too eager, what with the genre and the possibly stupid plot.
Reverse Vampire: Ok, but I had enough. Why are all the shows in the summer season sucks eggs? So far, only Shiki had caught my uttermost attention.
Shokkeru: Might be interesting to watch, but it’s no Seitokai no Ichizon (I’m guessing).

Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~

null

Animation Studio: Seven Arcs
Website: http://www.sekirei-tv.com/
Available Trailers: Trailer
Source: Manga
Genre: Comedy, Ecchi
Release date: July
Details: Keizou Kusakawa is the director who did Asura Crying and Inukami (fricking hilarious at times). He’s well suited for such a fluffy anime.
Summary: Minato Sahashi is extremely intelligent, yet due to his inability to cope under pressure has failed the college entrance exam twice. As a result he has been branded an idiot and loser by many. One day after talking to his yet again disappointed mother he comes into contact with a girl named Musubi who was under attack. The girl runs but takes him with her and soon finds that Minato, while unknown to him, is an Ashikabi, one of the mysterious set of masters that have the genetic trait that can become partners with some of the 108 cute girls, buxom women, and bishōnen called “Sekirei”. The reason for the partnership allows the Sekirei to use all their power to win in the competition held by the mysterious MBI corporation.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Speaking of sequels where is my Shin Mazinger Z sequel?
Calawain: Pokemon with tits, how can you go wrong. First season was pure entertainment, and if the second season follows the manga the main character grows a small pair. It doesn’t try to pretend to be something it isn’t, and has a great voice cast full of waifu material. Enjoy.
ExecutiveOtaku: Looks like fanservice crap. I’m calling off the engagement!
Impz: I forgot what this stuff is about during the first season (I remember it is ecchi, I think), and I don’t see the point to watch more fluff this season. There’s enough to make cloud seeding.
Reverse Vampire: Softcore p0rn. Got anymore girls with unrealistic big BOOBS?
Shokkeru: Bwahahahahaha!

Animation Studio: Studio DEEN
Website: http://www.nuramago.jp/
Available Trailers: Trailer
Source: Manga
Genre: Action, Supernatural
Release date: July
Details: The director of some great old school anime (You’re under arrest) and more recently Simoun, Junji Nishimura, will direct this. Natsuko Takahashi is definitely a very prolific writer, but her works are not exactly sublime. We have to see how this goes.
Summary: Rikuo Nura, is 3 parts human and a quarter Demon, lives in a house of spirits with his grandfather, The current clan head of the Nura youkai. Rikou is set to be the next clan head, despite the fact he dislikes his demon side. He soon come to terms with his demon blood and decides to take his position as young master of the Nura house. However there are those who will certainly not allow it to be easy.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: I am on the fence on this one.
ExecutiveOtaku: The short preview and the synopsis makes it sound like the unholy offspring of Inuyasha and Bleach, the first of which I greatly enjoyed. Like my comrades, I’m also on the fence until more information is available, though I don’t share the hate some of them have for DEEN.
Impz: The story looks very delicious. Then I see Studio DEEN’s name. Studio DEEN has managed to rub me the wrong way by screwing up every single manga adaptation they made. Hence, despite the possibility of Junji Nishimura (director of Simoun fate), I will only give this 1 episode to impress me. If not, it’s good bye.
Reverse Vampire: Gave up on DEEN after Hakuoki disappoints me (Giant Killing is still ok.). No more chances for you, DEEN. Sayonara. I hope you’ll be ruining this series too.
Shokkeru: There is room on the fence and I’m taking it.

Available Trailers:
Source: Light novel
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Release date: July
Details: This is Yooichi Ueda’s first true directing role. He was an animation director for Bamboo Blade, but there’s really nothing to shout out for here.
Summary: The story centers around Kio Kakazu, a high school freshman living in Okinawa. During a memorial service for one of his family ancestors a mysterious girl with cat ears appears before him indroducing herself as Eris and claiming that she is an alien. However she may be more troubling than he first realizes.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Wonder if they will be protesting the base we got there too…
ExecutiveOtaku: I doubt it’s going to be my kind of show, but I suppose I’ll watch the first episode and hope that it’s better than it sounds.
Impz: Supposedly having a ps2 game and 4 drama CDs, this is not enough to persuade me to watch this fluffy piece of crap. Prove me wrong, anyone, PROVE ME WRONG.
Reverse Vampire: I want more dogs in anime. Ok, why all these cat fetishes going on here?

Details: Hirofumi Ogura has taken over from Toshiya Shinohara as the director of this sequel. I can’t find any information on ANN of Ogura’ directing experience though…
Summary: The second series, Kuroshitsuji II, is set to appear in July and follows a butler, Claude Faustus, and his master, Alois Trancy, as opposed to Sebastian and Ciel. Both new characters were designed by Toboso

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Impz is the expert ask him.
ExecutiveOtaku: After being forced to watch the first season at anime club, I almost want to watch this just for ‘teh lulz’. Perhaps if I get bored and want to parody-blog a series I’ll check it out.
Impz: I actually watch the first few episodes with gusto, then it totally dried up. Not too sure if I can bother with a second season.
Reverse Vampire: I stick to the manga. I don’t like the previous anime series for some reason or another. Well, back to the original source.

Summary: It’s a comedy manga parodying famous samurai generals and historical events.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Will watch only if they document how the Koreans kicked their collective asses with Artillery during Hideyoshi’s reign.
ExecutiveOtaku: YES! I love Hetalia and gladly welcome more historical parody shows.  Will watch, but not likely to blog.

Strike Witches 2

null

Animation Studio: AIC
Website: http://s-witch.cute.or.jp/
Available Trailers:
Source: Light novel
Genre: Ecchi, War.
Release date: July
Details: Same old, same old. Kazuhiro Takamura is directing the sequel, as with the first season, so nothing should change too much if you like pantsu fighting loli mecha.
Summary: The year is 1939 – it was then that the Neuroi appeared. Nobody knows where they came from or what their ultimate agenda is, but the fact remains that their attacks drove people out of their towns and cities. In order to take arms against them, humanity develops a new anti-Neuroi weapon called the “Striker Unit.” Using the power of magic to fight against the monsters, this new device enhances and amplifies the power of female magic-wielders. To use this device, young witches from all over the world have been brought together to form an elite task force unit called the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, commonly known as the “Strike Witches.”

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Never got into this one don’t plan to now, but then I am a guy who thinks the aircraft these girls are based are more sexy and killy.
Calawain: It sells DVDs, so I don’t blame them for going back to it. Not my type of fetish but I’m certainly not going to hate on those who like it. Sekirei hits more of my fetishes personally. Again, enjoy if that’s your thing, I won’t be hating~
ExecutiveOtaku: I know there are lots of people out there who make good cases for the show not being pure fanservice and devoid of plot, but I just cannot take it seriously. My line for acceptable fanservice and ridiculous concepts in a serious story is here, and Strike Witches is several kilometers over there. Plus, as Crusader mentioned, real WWII aircraft are much sexier than these weird, mangled aircraft-girl characters.
Impz: Pantsu witches part 2. Not watching.
Reverse Vampire: Urg…why so many boobs this season? Has the animators’ brain cells go dead with work overload?
Shokkeru: Just how would you play volleyball in the air? I mean once someone gets a point it’s like game over unless you had a lot of balls… heh heh balls…

Release date: July
Details: Testuro Araki, the director of Death Note, will be working on this. He also did Aoi Bungaku , a horror series, so he has some experience with this genre at least. Yousuke Kuroda will be doing the series composition (Honey and Clover II, Infinite Ryvius, Madlax) and he is an immensely talented and prolific person to work on this. A possible Top anime of the season.
Summary: The world is over taken with a deadly “disease” that turns people who get bitten into the living dead. In Japan, a group of students and the school nurse stick together and try to survive the wide spread chaos.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Mildly interested would be cool if they gave a couple nods to the Left4Dead franchise. Impz has the point.
ExecutiveOtaku: Never been a fan of the zombie genre, and I don’t imagine this will stop my eyes from rolling at the concept. Not going to bother with it.
Impz: I am highly anticipating this manga adaptation to anime for a while. The story is harsh, painful and very interesting. There’s no way I am not watching this. Putting my name in the hat for blogging too. And seriously, a hot chick fighting with a wooden kendo stick? I AM SO IN.

Available Trailers:
Source: Manga
Genre: RPG
Release date: July
Details: A tie-in for the manga. Really little known about the production crew.
Summary: The story takes place in the year 2020, just three years after the events of .hack//G.U.. The story will take place not only in the new version of “The World” known as “The World R:X” but in the real world as well. The lead character is a middle school student named Tokio Kuryuu. He lives a normal life as a gamer until a mysterious girl named Saika Amagi transfers to his school. She takes Tokio to the school rooftop one day and sends his consciousness and real body into The World R:X, where Tokio begins to discover that time for some characters, and even the history of The World itself, are going haywire; for instance, Tsukasa is turning back into his previous cold mannerisms, and Haseo is being cold-hearted and obsessive about finding and killing Tri-Edge.

Writers’ Commentary
Crusader: Excuse me while I lament the lack of weekly mecha during this Summer of Suck.
ExecutiveOtaku: I really enjoyed .hack//SIGN, but have since fallen way behind in the story. Slight chance that I’ll catch up in time to watch this as it airs.
Impz: I used to play the related game of .hack on the ps2, and this is a continuation of the events after the game. Might be worth a watch.
Reverse Vampire: The one at the bottom reminds me of Daichi from the first season of Digimon. Uncanny resemblance…I smell an ancient conspiracy going on here.
Shokkeru: Not sure if this is going to be an actual TV series or if it’s the CG “tie-in” that Bandai Namco was raving about. Either way, I’m totally looking forward to it.

Eh Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu predates Code Geass and Black Butler.. Geass by 4 years… it’s got like 29 light novels.. going for the Guin Saga record lol.

Looks like only High School of the Dead is actually worthwhile for a new show this season. Sekirei and Sengoku Basara are the only other two I am following because of their first seasons (and manga for Sekirei, <3 tits).

    PS: And Tsukiumi.

I will say Shiki is the other worth it title to watch if you like horror. Seems like horror might be the winners of this relatively poor summer season.

And of course, fanservice harem crap.

I am in despair!!! The lack of mecha shows this season has left me in despair!!!

Seriously, to hear a certain Miao blog about High School of the Dead, you’d think this is the cat’s meow. I haven’t read the manga it’s based on, but I hear that’s it’s gun porn meets John Romero, so it might be an acceptable show to watch… Now if someone would just make a Machete anime…

    • Posted May 27, 2010 at 5:44 am | Permalink

Yes, but with a lot more fanservice.

Sorry I meant GEORGE Romero… got my zombie movie directing Romero mixed up with the “make you his bitch” Romero…

Speaking of fanservice, I’m hoping that the Shaun of the Dead references in HSoTD make it in intact (including a cameo by Shaun).

If Strike Witches S2 sells even more DVDs, here’s hoping they bust out the big guns and let AIC Asta animate the exploits of Joint Fighter WIng Africa.

Because Joint Fighter Wing Africa (And the Suoumus Irregulars) is so much more interesting than the 501st.

BUT IT IS JUST A PIPEDREAM.

I agree with Crusader. This will be the summer of suck. Good thing I’ll be busy with work.

  7. Posted May 27, 2010 at 10:25 am | Permalink

The only interesting one to me right now is High School of the Dead. Kinda want to see yet another take on zombies after all the different ones in the past couple years. I’m not quite bored with the theme yet (even though there were plenty of chances to be), I blame all the good zombie games and movies.

Hmm not much to see this summer. Although I find the lack of Mecha to actually be a good thing.
(sorry crusader) I guess I might go back and rewatch some old shows….

honey and clover here I come…(well after this season ends)

      Always a good choice!

I can’t find any evidence that “Sock Monkey Loves You” is really coming out this Summer. For example, it isn’t listed for Summer 2010 at: http://chartfag.wordpress.com/

I looked at the website you have listed (through google-translate) and there is no mention of this show at all.

Is Sock Monkey nothing but a TROLL???

fyi, Kuroshitsuji 2 is not about Sebastian and Ciel — they’re introducing a totally new master an butler duo and supposedly an original plot.

Difficult to tell at this stage, but pretty sure about feeling deflated and undewhelmed by most of them. Will check out Shiki and maybe Occult Academy for the laughs. The panty- and boob-shots in the trailer for High School of the Dead put me off that, and everything else seems to be for kids or harem rubbish. Kuroshitsuji II reminds me that I never finished series 1 for some reason that I can’t remember, so I might go back and do that, otherwise not really feeling the new butler and the new family.

Summer of suck it may prove to be, but on the bright side this means more time for catching up on older shows I haven’t yet seen yet lol. Thanks to everyone for the detailed previews and comments, and for the other useful labels and links (are some of these new additions? I think your previous season previews weren’t as long, but I might be making that up and can’t be bothered to check). Anyway, will look fwd to your entertaining perspectives on them all at least!

Yeah where’s the mecha? Eva 2.2 didn’t just completely shit on every other Bluray release ever. Break Blade isn’t about to have one movie per month for the next six months.

Code Geass Gaiden is scheduled for Fall according to the first Fall Season chart I’ve seen. And while it’s not much, there’s some show about building little battle gunpla that fight each other or something for that season as well. Let’s hope it’s a sort of wacky hijinks competition show with mini-mecha and not something along the lines of Yugioh.

.hack//LINK the game (PSP) is already out in Japan. No release date for any other regions yet I think.

Not much to look forward too besides High school of the dead and Occult seems horror is the summer theme, just finished Strike Witches last night not sure what the 2nd season is about maybe just the girls hanging out or something.

Well, I guess a slow season isn’t that bad for a change. Too bad for mecha fans though.

F$#$!#$ YEAH! I’ve been waiting for an HSoTD anime ever since I started following the manga. That in itself was pretty good in showing a group of survivors actually playing smart in surviving a zombie apocalypse. Saeko-sama’s animated debut cannot come any sooner.

Ugh… Sad to say but the sock monkey series interest me the most. SOCK. MONKEYS. xD
Hahaha, but I’m serious. I love puppets and Mr. Sock Monkey there is damn adorable. <3

But I won't lie, and admit that Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi and Kuroshitsuji 2 also interest me. Mostly because I find fairy tale tie-ins cute, and the fact that Kuroshitsuji 2 is just full FILLER is gonna be a fun trainwreck to see.

(p.s. the info for Kuroshitsuji here is incorrect since it'll be featuring completely main characters and dated 1 year and 3 days since the last season's episode. See http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-03-29/kuroshitsuji-ii-bungaku-shoujo-memoire-promos-posted )

Wait what? Catz, you are weird! Hahahaha! xD

Actually, I have to fix up that Kuroshitsuji 2 thing. Give me a moment while I get it fixed so that others are not being misled. I actually am getting drained by the fluffy stuff watching. A little is fine but when it overwhelms, it drains you out from actually watching nice anime.

Wow … lots of anime … none that look too appealing. What the heck is the point of a Kuroshitsuji sequel if it’s not Ciel and Sebastian? In fact, why even call it Kuroshitsuji? Are they just trying to bandwagon the name? I’ll watch an episode or two, but not really getting my hopes up.

The only anime I see that I’ll be watching for sure is .hack//link. I love anything .hack.

And I thought the previous season was boring, I can’t take another boring one.

  23. Posted May 29, 2010 at 7:08 pm | Permalink

A rather disappointing Summer season, but at least Shiki should be a good watch. I’m also looking at Occult and Nurarihyon as potential good watches. .hack//Link looks like it has potential as well, at least judging from the poster. Those four are guaranteed to be the only ones on my “to watch/potential” list. From what I’ve heard High School of the Dead is primarily fan service, but I’ll watch a few episodes since it’s Madhouse.

If all four of those shows pull through, then the Summer season might not be too bad. Still a good time to catch up on some other anime regardless.
