Gundam Wing 06-10: Mistakes of Youth…

Seems Releena walked in on an awkward moment…

So Releena tenaciously retains her stalker crush on Heero which is made all the more stronger by the death of her father. This time around I am finding Releena to be a bit more sympathetic since she wants to be stronger like Heero I approve of this sentiment as more characters need to shut up and get shit done instead of standing on a soap box telling the audience the same drivel we have all heard before. I only wish Releena”s fangirls would jump her and that they had more Kanako-like fantasies instead of that rather tame one they had when Releena somehow got a dance out of Heero. Good to see that when Lady Une showed up that Releena was not afraid and did not cower because OZ doesn’t really know how to pilot a mobile suit, and not one of them was… AN ACE. Still Heero was pretty damn adamant that he was going to kill Releena too bad he forgot to invest in a silencer, also it seems that Gundam 01 did not like the idea of killing defenseless girls and was rather particular about what it killed. I wonder if it is the post yandere times we live in since Releena’s stalker tendencies no longer seem weird to me, but now they seem awesome and I start thinking about how cool it would be if she shanked someone.

Having Lady Une around makes me glad that it was megane that made for lose in female commanders rather it seems like it’s more the result of creepy crushes hence why Katie is still superior to Une. It’s great how varied the grunts fighting in OZ and the Alliance vary when it comes to personality some actually have a glimmer of intelligence though sadly they’re useless in a fight against Gundams. The OZ grunts seem to suffer from the Storm Trooper effect in that their superiority only comes into play when fighting the Alliance which was mostly due to having a bunch of team killers in their matches. Even if Une is inferior to Katie I like how despite the victories of the Gundams they aren’t making much of a strategic difference, because the OZ war machine was just that big and they could take the losses. Even if the Gundams are nigh invincible it’s nice to see that OZ took their superior resources and made it count. Treize definitely made them his bitch when he duped them all into shooting down Noventa and all the Alliance doves. I have to hand to Lady Une for doing the most ruthless thing to take the Gundams down, as reprehensible as taking hostages is, it was the smart thing to do even if every one with a mother was outraged by it. Still going for the weakest link is sound military thinking for one that doesn’t need to follow the Geneva Convention. Also it does make up a lot for the invincibility of the gundams since it basically made them non-factors in the strategic picture since OZ had the means to dominate strategically even if they did not have the means to defeat the Gundams tactically. At least Wu Fei can claim to have gotten a measure of vengeance when Lady Une humiliated herself in close combat using a Leo, I did LOL heartily when her punches were puny and a far cry from a BIG BANG PUNCH. I kind of wish Wu Fei did mock Lady Une with WOMAN! the way he taunted Noin. Luckily for Une, Treize fought Wu Fei in a preliminary sword fight where Wu Fei was pwned and turned into a whiny loser. You have to admit though it was kind of his just deserts for shouting WOMAN! during his fight with Noin.

Septum was much more tolerable because he didn’t sound like a sniveling coward, even if Noventa was getting overly ballsy with his peace plans Septum brought up some good points. I would have started a drawdown as a gesture of good will and then disarmed only after the results of the talks were good. I did LOL pretty hard when Lady Une made her headshot from way up in the air on a moving plane against a moving target with only a pistol… it’s bullshit but it was funny as hell because she didn’t asphyxiate herself when she popped the door open at umpteen thousand feet. As much as I think that the Aries is pretty damn ace I really hate how the recycled shots irk me since it could be pretty damn awesome if they had more stock footage or if they actually animated new battle sequences every time. Still Wing was one of the worst offenders when it came to recycling stock footage, but even knowing that it is going to happen doesn’t dampen my misgivings about it. Certainly if they had a bigger budget to work with it might have aged better than it did but the stock footage abuse really drags it down in my book. It’s rather unfortunate since it could have been so much better with grunt suits going against Grunt suits in truly dynamic battles but instead we get pallet swaps of the same shots over and over again.

So they finally get Tallgeese to work and while not as good looking as a Gundam it has a charm all its own, since it straddles that bridge between OZ’s suits and the Gundams. Otto proved that he was a dumbass in addition to being a palindrome but I always wondered if Otto knew who Zechs really was. In any case it was much more humanizing to see Zechs unmask himself early on since it establishes who is and the price he paid for his revenge, it still sad to see that he had to betray everything his father stood for the sake of reclaiming the kingdom. It made him harder to hate since he did have a heart and his grief was plausible and not overly convoluted. Still I despite this I laughed a little when Tallgeese made Zech’s its bitch and was so hardcore that Otto had to an Hero himself. Speaking of An Heroes, Heero remained mercifully quite for the most part and did the ballsiest thing when Dr. J made clear that the Gundams would not be handed over, it made for a good show of resolve even if it wasn’t the smartest thing to do, but it will come up again and in a rather nice way too. I did find it kind of funny how Duo and Heero viewed hiding out, both agreed that a school was the perfect hideout for dudes their age, but Duo wants to behave normally and fit in while Heero wants to be the jerkass that no one wants to know and generally ignores. Not sure how you would profile for a terrorist from the colonies but in the case of OZ they’d probably kill the whole student population just to be sure.

All in all it’s been quite fun so far and it will be a lot of fun when Releena gets a gun…

Sorry but Heero won’t let you toss out his gunpla.

Cool pose, if only the Leo was replaced by a Zaku…

If only she was really a yandere…

I approve of the strapless dresses however the black haired one isn’t Pretty in Pink…

I find this fantasy to be too tame.

Maybe you should have tried the vulcans…

I suppose Heero thought that his love for Releena was like a truck and he wanted to ram her with said truck…

Should have used Starbucks there Catherine.

Trolling the Zekes with their own MASS PRODUCTION.

Sally Po saving the day.

Heero is so awesome he didn’t wait until the last millisecond to stop the timer.

I’d burnt that pic too if I was you.

Crouching for better balance…

Une’s Rocket Punch was full of fail…

Your Kung Fu is weak Wu Fei…

Beating Cancer never looked so cool…

Noin now would be an excellent time to jump Zechs he’s in no condition to resist…

Otto did not like being called a palindrome.

Zechs’ dad is DISAPPOINT, but at least he kept the hippie hair…

but not the beard…

Hey he’s over HERE!

Tallgeese ready to go Lu bu on your ass…

Wing Gundam ready to ugh…wait who is he playing int he SD Gundam “adaptation” of the RoTK?

It’s always a shiny red button…

Better dead than red…

Knock off that newtype bullshit will ya?!

Noin is in Une’s face talking dirty to her beau…

I doubt that they want to add flying units since they prefer floors instead…

Yes soon I eagerly await the chance to witness Releena using fire arms.

When I was watching this in college, I always wondered just how the heck OZ could churn out really crappy mass-production units… And how those massive numbers did nothing to even put a dent in the five Gundams in Wing, when realistically the Gundams would have been hammered into the ground. Plot-armor nothing; more like Plot-Battleship-grade Plating.

I imagine it to be the difference between iron-plated battleships vs wooden ones. The gundams are a hell of a step forward in terms of tech, and their pilots don’t go splat when using them. Recall that, in world, the Tallgeese is the super-prototype mech that killed its pilots. All the grunt suits are stepped down for mass production. It is cheaper to zerg with suits anyone can use. Plus, the suits were plenty strong before the gundams moved the goal posts.

Well at least they aren’t exerting much of a strategic difference. Invulnerability is a bitch and this is where it all started but at least OZ is playing it smart and attacking everywhere knowing that the Gundams can’t stop all their offenses, it’s like a repeat of the Allied strategy attack everywhere knowing that the enemy had to be weak somewhere.

I think it’s the same reason why the Allies kept churning out T-34s and Shermans despite Germany rolling out the Panthers in 1943 it was difficult for both to make much of an impression on a Panther and then the Russians decided to attack non-German formations when starting attacks like those Italians and the US just felt that going up tank on tank was stupid and just called in the fighter bombers. Numbers do count and so far it’s taking a toll since the Gundams couldn’t defend the colonies and were caught with their pants down. If nothing else at least they aren’t burning a single coke field and winning the war on drugs as a result…

For the record I thought a lot of the newtype bullshit resulted in battleship grade plot armor plating sadly there are no dive bombers to pound the deck to make up for it. So far the Gundams might have five battleships to OZ’s one battleship, but OZ has more cruisers, carriers, frigates, subs, and destroyers and they are claiming strategic victory with Operation Day Break and their ain’t much a the Five Gundams can do about it, since they have only caused minor delays in OZ’s timetable.

I forget, when does Hilde make her debut?

I’m also waiting on the nutcase that is Dorothy.

I don’t remember when Hilde gets to join the party but well after Duo gets his ass kicked in space IIRC.

Having Dorthy around will make this so much more fun… yes.

It would have pretty much predated Geass and would have been a lot more fun with yandere Releena killing off the female student population.
