Kaichou wa Maid-sama Episode 10 – YES, FINALLY FRICKING KYAARIFIC YES!

The title speaks it all. Oh, that and I will definitely pay for a yuri show involving Sakura, Misaki and Aoi, with the end transforming all of them into a harem for Usui. OH YES.

On a more personal note, I wish Francis from Tiamat’s reviews and his family well after he finally passed away peacefully after combating with his illness after so long. May God bless him and rejoice in his presence.

Episode summary

Sakura is in love with the vocalist of a popular band, and manages to secure a fan meeting with the band. She asked Misaki along for the meeting. Misaki hence cleared all her commitments for the student council, in order to be free for the meeting. As they count down to the days to meet the band, Misaki was glad that Sakura is so in love, with Shizuka in quiet contemplation. On the day of the meeting, it turned out that the three idiots are working in the cafe where Misaki and co. will be meeting the band. After a lively exchange, it seems that Kuuga, the vocalist of the band, has taken an interest to Misaki. He then cornered Misaki at the toilet, only for Usui to interrupt his advances effectively while identifying himself as a stalker.

Misaki also realized he was into Sakura simply as a service to the fans. It is clear now that Kuuga is ignoring Sakura, and simply using Sakura to hook up with Misaki. He then insulted Misaki and insinuated that she must be good “dealing with guys” since she is smart, pretty and also a student council. Finally, Sakura snapped and screamed out against him. Misaki also flared up, grabbing Kuuga by the collar. She warned him not to fool around with Sakura’s feelings, and told him that his service to the fans is a pathetic gesture. Later Shizuka is angry at them for being loud in the public place (to Misaki), and to be more careful when falling in love (at Sakura).

It’s the most fricking delightful episode for a long time. Remember how I complained about the filler episode being boring? Now, this episode clearly shows how to make a shoujo comedy funny, and bring in all the stops to shut up a huge fan of Kaichou wa Maid-sama. This is in my humble opinion, one of the best episodes for Kaichou because it had the nice balance of comedy and so kyaa kyaa moments. First, let’s talk at the kyaarific scene. That scene was definitely how Usui came to the rescue, and identified himself as a stalker. That was a completely facepalm moment, and I was laughing my guts out when he said it with almost a nonchalant tone. Now, HOW COOL IS THAT, you tell me. Honestly, it is so fricking amazing that I found myself replaying the scene. In fact, I am going to replay it now…

Ok, now that I re-watched the scene, it makes it even funnier because Usui identified himself while sparkling with bishie stars. This is what I call a total aura of comedy gold, simply because it is so Usui yet it is something you are surprised about. I mean, which guy in his right mind, will identify himself as a stalker with such panache. It’s weird but amazing, hah! I also like Misaki’s extremely fervor reaction toward any implication that Usui is her boyfriend. Seriously, girl, you need to sort out your feelings when you are literally blushing left right and center.

Oh, and when he said “I am extremely possessive“, all hell went loose in Impz’s bedroom as he listens to the anime conversation with his headphones. I mean, that is perhaps the most sexy and delicious scene in the whole episode. I know I live just for such shoujo scenes, and this is one scene that hits wide out for a home run. You go, Usui. Go manipulate this poor little sod of a Misaki to your hands! The conversation at the end was also cute, because she realized the connection of how she was comforting Sakura, just as Usui is comforting her. The demure blushing of Misaki makes it all the more sweeter.

I do wonder if bands actually consider service to the fans as something so troublesome. As much as it is done in a joking way, I wonder if movie stars are actually laughing at all those fans behind their back. I do not really know about the entertainment world, so I will like to be enlightened a little. Perhaps, it is considered to be a necessary evil to deal with the poor fans since these rich singers depend on them to succeed and earn their big bucks. I just thought that it is interesting to point this out. Kuuga also manages to be as obnoxious as he could, though I thought the ignoring of Sakura is a little too unprofessional (unrealistic) for a band that is decently popular.

I actually like Shizuka a lot in this episode. For all of her silent self, it is so amusing when she turns into some rampaging bull at the end. In fact, I noted that she did not even say a single word during the meeting, as though she is allergic to men or something. I actually find the dynamics of Shizuka and Sakura very interesting. If anything, I really wonder if they will ever try to ship Shizuka to anyone. That will be a fun thing to deal with.

So, do you enjoy this episode as much as I do? I hope you did, and maybe, tell me about your favorite scene this episode. My favorite scene is really the stalker scene. Nothing can beat that, unless you can prove me wrong :P

Unfortunately I can confirm that in entertainment there are people who view the audience/fans as either troublesome, unnecessary, or cattle meant to be herded. I was in a rock band, and at backstage during a show, overheard some other band (a signed one at that, won’t mention the label) dissing their own fans. It’s pretty upsetting, but please note that there are way more people who absolutely appreciate those who support them. We’re just silent about it.

Except for Andrew W.K. He loves his fans and he does it as publicly and loudly as he can. :)

Which is precisely ironic simply because they are depending mostly on these silly fans/audience to succeed. I think when a band does that, it will lose touch with the fans and slightly decline. The best bands are the one who knows how to appreciate the fans, without being too fake about it (since it’s a commercial exchange after all). This coming from a very general fan. I am saddened to hear something like that, Maser.

Being silent is fine and thanks for the information ^_^

I’m starting to get a little agitated over that damn musical score they keep playing. Theme music power ups only work when the music is good >_>

Hahahah, it’s that music they always play when Misaki goes on a GAR moment? I thought it was ok actually. I didn’t find it that much of a deterrent. What is wrong with the music that causes you to have such a reaction?

  3. Posted June 5, 2010 at 7:34 am | Permalink

I totally agree with you! This episode was THE BEST so far!

  4. Posted June 5, 2010 at 10:18 am | Permalink

I agree, it was the best episode of the series so far. Usui wins.

However, I’m a bit concerned about the overall direction of the series right now, it seems to be using these disposable male characters as fail rivals to Usui. And then at the end of episodes there’s a shot of “oh he was defeated this time, but he’s planning something”. In my mind though, I don’t see how they can be worked in to the anime again smoothly.

Without spoiling, there are ways to bring them back in smoothly. Pretty awesome actually :D

I don’t know why it makes me rage so much, tbqh. I think it’s the levels of cheese involving it…because they are astronomically high. Normally I don’t mind it, but whenever it plays over and over again and the music isn’t especially good at all I feel the need to facepalm.

~do do do do do do do do do do doooo

You know I have the same reaction towards the background music that’s on whenever Misaki’s little sister whose name I can never remember is on. Too slow, too annoying and too ‘oh isn’t she such an adorable oddball, let’s all giggle [or not in my case] at her!’. Grrr. Otherwise I don’t mind the rest of the incidental music. Hope they change the OP though, that’s too girlie/ grating, but THEY MUST NEVER CHANGE THE ED – frikkin LOVE that! :D

    sparkling Usuiiiiiiii +______________+
when Usui appears all is right in the world again. impeccable timing as all boyfriendscoughstalkers should have. haha kinda wished Usui would’ve whacked the Kuuga upside the head with the tray on ‘accident’. :D

i can’t imagine what it would be like to be Sakura if my favorite group did that to me. just burn. total burn. my poor heart. T_T which is why Kuuga should’ve had a tray upside the head!

I was seriously expecting Usui to kick Kuuga’s ass with a cool attack or something. I mean, Usui has such a possessive character (which is so ^_^ btw), and just pwned the living lights out of Kuuga. I mean honestly.

The group is also why I never believed in bands sadly. I never truly support any of them because they need my money to survive. I don’t see the need to worship them :P

Even though I am a straight ordinary guy, I can’t help but love Usui, seriously that guy is beyond awesome, probably the best shojo male lead ever made. He brings out the shojo fan girl within me:P

Who cares. I am a perfectly straight ordinary guy and I adore the presence of Usui because he always manages to do something completely out of the blue to impress me. I will say that Ren from Skip Beat is still my favorite guy (other than Arima of Kare Kano) simply because they are just as awesome as Usui, but they have a dark side within them. Still, both of them just cannot have enough of the female lead that makes them even more delicious for the shoujo fan in me.

Don’t worry, mate, you are not alone on this。:P

I kinda wish they don’t, because they will then become the almost baka trio. That’s no fun. Seeing them struggle every episode makes my day. I am such a sadist. >_<

If there’s one thing i love about Kaichou wa Maid-sama, is that no matter if your a guy or a girl, you will definitively fall in love and go Bi for both Misaki and Usui.

LOL. Well, more for Usui and meido Misaki. Normal Misaki isn’t as alluring. I particularly like sleeveless Meido Misaki. Just too moe!

Why? Well, it is a shoujo series after all, so the guy is expected to save the poor shoujo female lead. That said, you must like the stalker thing as you said you did. That is just pure awesomeness that you cannot ignore.

Its just boring and predictable, Id much rather see her resolving situations with her own strength as she has done many times.

I thought it was going to be good already, since it is so clear that the wannabe band members are going to be fake…Well, I lied. I thought it is going to be so generic, but man, Usui’s appearance saved the day once again. When the floodgates of laughter break open, I just cannot stop laughing.

  15. Posted June 12, 2010 at 3:37 pm | Permalink

This was such a cute episode (yes, I finally just watched it lol). The much commented on kyaarific scene aside, I really enjoyed the interactions between Sakura, Mizaki and Shizuko in this epi. Thought the trio displayed the perfect blend of affectionate, considerate and telling-[or rather shouting at]you-like-it-is. After the peach flavoured yawnfest that was just one (tension-less) pregnant pause after another of the previous epi, this one rocked for many reasons already mentioned, but also because for once all the characters had a significant part to play in both plot and character development as well as perfect collective comic timing. I’m particularly glad they made Sakura (who I was kinda indifferent to before) totally stick up for herself and what was right without relying on Misaki (well not too much), when she could have so easily let the Prez upside the Idol-senpai wannabe with an over turned table top. Which would also have been pretty cool though :D Looking fwd to your post on the next one, after I go and watch it now…
