I actually watch Kaichou wa Maid-sama Episode 11 three days ago, but I was swarmed by the coming of World Cup and a sudden interest in Football manager 2010. As such, my life has been turned upside down by this insane event. Finally, I got myself out of this crazy addiction, and write about my feelings on Kaichou wa Maid-sama Episode 11.
Oh, if you didn’t already know, Usui’s flowery scene in Maid cafe? Priceless. Here you go, you got spoiled.
Usui met up with Misaki’s mother as he passed by and found her to be easily trusting of others, even surprisingly the unflappable Usui. After visiting her family, Usui realizes the condition of Misaki’s house, and even fixed up the floor for her. As expected, Misaki was shocked to see Usui, and chased him out without any reason (she’s tsundere for Usui). Usui commented how cute Misaki must be when she was young, and was glad to know more of her secrets. They were also spotted by Sakura. The next day, Misaki’s friends, particularly Sakura, wanted to know Usui’s background because he is so mysterious. Sakura imagined that Usui is probably some rich kid living a very good secret life. They then proposed to follow him.
Later on, Misaki is working in the Maid cafe and she picked up a call from her friends, notifying her that Usui is in the maid cafe. As she did not tell her friends about working in the cafe, she panicked. Her manager took it as a sign of stress. Through some silly bantering, they decided to follow Usui through a series of weird rich places (private swimming club, formal wear, restaurant). After following to really random places, they gave up and left for their separate ways in a park. Usui was playing with a stray cat, who scratched his face. It turned out that Usui obviously knew they were following him (duh!), and offered to give his address to Misaki if she wished for it. She said she did not need it. The last scene showed a cold, dark room with the cat that Usui picked up.
The first part of the show involving Misaki’s family is awesome. I mean, Misaki’s mother and sister are just so comedic with the straight acting of Misaki accompanying their ridiculous behavior. In addition, anyone that can make Usui go @_@ must be awesome since I do not remember a single time where he is quizzical, puzzled or even surprised ostentatiously. It is actually quite interesting to see how Usui is clearly weak against the defenseless and trusting type of person. It is almost like Misaki’s mother is filled with so much goodness that Usui’s evil side (too much Kare Kano, sorry!) is being forced out from somewhere.
Ok, I admit, there isn’t any evil side apparently, but it just feels quite weird with the opening scene. Seriously, I am used to seeing Usui follow his own pace but it feels like he is being derailed by the easy going character of Misaki’s mother. I do hope for more Misaki’s mother interactions with Usui. It will be so fun.
It is also quite nice (not enough to elicit a kyaa from me though!) for the scene in the day park. I actually thought that the comment on the rabbit-shaped apple slices is a very nice touch. I am not sure if the seiyuu deliberately aims to evoke the emotion, but it feels as though Usui is truly admiring his life. This is perhaps a hint toward Usui’s family life being much darker than expected for a fluffy romantic shoujo show. Will the anime move toward more of a drama slant later on? I am not too sure about that, but I think it might alienate quite a few fans if it gets too dark and serious, plus I doubt that they can really take themselves too seriously for too long.
Oh, the part where he goes “I just want to know more and more secrets of Ayazawa, and only I can know it” just reeks of Usui-ism too much that I didn’t feel too much for it. It is always a cue for him to go about this kind of bishified message. It gets a bit too predictable at times, and perhaps that is why I didn’t care too much of it.
On comparison, I felt that the whole following of Usui is quite boring to be honest. There is one scene that I like though. I mean, the whole Usui family appearance is just so weird. I really wonder what kind of mind Misaki has, and the whole Usui-faced mother is hilarious to be honest. Other than that, it is just a bit too boring for me. I am not sure why, but I don’t know where it doesn’t draw me in at all. Do you find the second part of the show interesting by any chance? I think they are trying to bring some comedy from straight-faced Shizuka, but it didn’t work for me at least.
Oh, last thing. Usui with specs? YES, PLEASE!!
