The above picture represents what I wish Kaichou wa Maid-sama should be like, but I guess that really is just a tease for nice sweet school life yuri romance. Sigh.
P/s: Impz wrote the above. It will be a bit interesting if a female says she loves yuri, no?
It’s Sports Festival time at Seika High and this week we get to see an even more fired-up Misa-chan determined to win every friggin event. Not because she is selfish or a masochist (actually I’m not so sure about the latter). No, rather because she wishes to do so on behalf of her girls’ team, in order to ensure the girls’ enjoyment of the Festival and also to continue to add to their positive experience of their high school life as a whole. Cue a series of events which include sprints, relays, horse-back riding, an obstacle course and, finally, a cosplay race.
As expected, the Prez demolishes the rather weak fight put up by most of the boys, except for a threat posed by one of the other Prez-hating and Sakura-loving boys, who stoops at nothing (including multiple attempts at cheating) in order to win the obstacle race, the prize for which being a kiss from (a reluctant) Sakura. Misaki puts up a valiant fight, but her stamina is fading…. Fortunately the hitherto non-competing Usui steps in to save her from disqualification, resulting in Usui finishing first with Misaki in second place, but deciding to hand his prize over to Misaki, who receives the kiss on the cheek gladly from an equally glad Sakura.
Last activity is the cosplay race, in which the more non-athletic participants are given the chance to shine, including the determined Yukimura – who is unfortunate enough to pick a maid costume and is promptly made fun of by some of the other boys. When a flustered Yukimura then trips and falls, Misaki and Usui decide to help him up and finish in equal last place, while dressed in equally bizarre cosplay outfits that they very quickly custom-re-make in the dressing room. Final scores: all is well again at Seika High and even more people are hot for MIsaki and Usui.
His and Her Thoughts:
A fun episode, showing-off a very nice change in hairstyle for Usui (mini-ponytale using the ribbon/colours of his team, ’twas very fetching) and a couple of very cute outfits for Misaki. I particularly enjoyed: the petrified boy on the starting blocks of the first race (Misaki’s doing); Misaki randomly but cutely ‘resting’ in Sakura’s lap; Usui’s manly ‘leave this to me’ baddass/ kyaarific/ sparkly moment, before he went skipping over the mats in the swimming pool like a crazy guy using crazy guy sound effects; Usui threatening to strip Misaki (nuff said); and finally the final victory (again nuff said). And misaki’s eye-patch. Only improvement would be if he had actually stripped her (*sigh*).
On another note, my heart originally sank at the thought that this might be another ‘filler’ style epi, seeing as how it didn’t push the main plot forward or develop the central relationship any/ much further. However, even though it is a chapter (or more than one, can’t remember) from the manga, I enjoyed it and I’m glad they ‘neatened’ up the complicated plans that the idiot 3 originally had regarding the custom made maid outfit (manga spoiler but not a biggie: **they originally made the outfit specifically for Misaki to wear by having her specifically if unknowingly pick it out during the cosplay race and put it on**).
I also enjoyed the brief exploration of Yukimura’s shy personality and his determination to succeed at an event that no one else takes seriously was sweet. Thus it was nice to see both Misaki and Usui saving his day. And the other guys going gay for Usui in his ninja outfit. As mentioned Misaki’s pirate eye-patch also went down well with me, and…I can’t believe I (who firmly prefer my fan-service to be of the man-service variety) am saying this…but the (fake) yuri moments were also really cute and funny. But no doubt Impz will have a tiny bit more to say about that.
I actually found everything extremely funny, but I also agree with how the general school population perceive costume competition. In a way, it reminds me deeply about how me and a few more athletic students in our class pushed the less physically able students to join the silly contests because we find it too unmanly . I am not sure if any of you have that experience (Hana, being a lecturer, might see this more often than I do). As much as it is idealistic to think that way, it just shows how Kaichou wa Maid-sama really sees all things in an extremely positive light.
I am surprised Hana didn’t mention anything about “rather than given a kiss, I rather kiss forcefully” from Usui. That, to me, is so hilarious because I went into -_- mode. Usui, for all his perfection and supreme timing to the point of craziness, is good for comedy gold when he sprouts out lines that would not be out of place in a more sexual nature. That, in my opinion, is actually funny because he says it with such a deadpan expression *but sparkly flowers of bishieness* for the shoujo fangirl.
I think this episode is clearly showing how “fillers” can be done very well. It is funny, there are crazy moments that are actually funny (Yukimura, the next trap in town?) and there is enough yuri love to spread around. Yes, you hear me right. Yuri love spreading is good. I do wish that they have more yuri moments of Misaki and Sakura, only to see if Usui the possessive one will get jealous or not. Yes, I am weird that way.
Anyway, which is your most kyaarific moment this episode?
