Shiki Episode 08: Sotoba Survivalist Guide 101: Never let anyone into your house. Ever.

I’m afraid you forgot that this zombie vampire is out to get you for increasing taxes.

I apologize once again for being late at posting this, since there’s so much uncompleted homework left to be done and my obsession with a certain free RPG game (Go read the comments of previous episode reviews to find out what I’m playing) is certainly not helping. Just got my internet connection back 2 days ago and yeah, life is such a torture without any internet connection. And the weather became much of a dick this week. I keep this short, like always. (But I always feel that I write longer than I initially expected.)

Now, let me give you some good reasons why it’s good to be a little selfish from time to time and NEVER LET ANY STRANGERS INTO YOUR HOUSE! Yes, including your friends, especially if you’re living in Sotoba.

Sunako’s out to get more of Seishin’s yaoi writing style and then sell it under her name once she gets the idea.

It’s more of the character development during the conversation between Sunako and Seishin, as if they knew something about each other they themselves found themselves didn’t know. They too talked about the pain for being forsaken by God with no one able to understand their pain inside their hearts.

On Natsuno’s side, they have yet to begun digging Megumi’s grave from we last left off and as Kaori is unwilling to dig her grave, she found the present she dropped in Megumi’s grave was on the surface. This made Natsuno’s guess about Megumi’s ‘revival’ more plausible as they discovered that their hunch is right about this one as Megumi’s corpse is nowhere to be found. Soon after that Kaori was taken away by a mysterious person and just as the vampire was about to bite Kaori, Natsuno came to her rescue and hit the vampire in the head using his spade. Thinking that he killed the man, Akira did know that Natsuno did that out of self defense.

Megumi’s stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive…

Our little investigation team realized that the vampire’s body temperature is colder than a normal human, coming to a conclusion that the man is dead to begin with and Natsuno did not actually killed him while saving Kaori. Having to do more investigation, Natsuno and Akira decide to put the vampire’s body into Megumi’s grave. Wanting to make the adults in the village to think that vampires (or okiagari for that matter) do exist and they could handle the situation better than the children.

We’re under zombie attack. Now who will believe us now with our ridiculous but true story?

Now that they knew that vampires do exist, Akira, Kaori and Natsuno are having trouble sleeping, knowing that their lifestyle will change for the worse. And yes, Akira and Kaori are sleeping in the same bed (No bro-sis incest, please.) Akira was having some ideas about telling their discovery to his classmates, reluctant if his friends and classmates will believe the strange truth. The vampire that Akira and Natsuno buried just now was shown to be still alive, still remembering the events prior to being hit by Natsuno.

The next day, our investigation team found out that the grave was placed back to where it was before Natsuno, Akira and Kaori went along and dig Megumi’s grave, making this harder for our human gang to believe that vampires are out to get them. Deciding whether if the threat they’re dealing with are actually vampires or zombies, the gang are thinking of a strategy to deal with their enemies, outnumbering Natsuno’s team since everyone else in Sotoba will find this hard to believe. With the recent ‘victim’ going to be buried to the ground on the same day, Natsuno was bent on counter-attacking the mystery ASAP. From what they know in vampire movies and books, Natsuno might suggest placing a stake on the vampire’s heart and wonders if he could really do this.

I wonder if you could. Since you’re going to make major life-changing choices later on.

Seeing the recent deceased being buried to the ground, things got somehow out of hand as the sun is going to set soon, thinking that they could do it another day. (I have a hunch that they’re making the wrong choice, no spoilers there.) Seishin ponders if Toshio was not making any paranoid decisions there after several unsuccessful attempts to save the villagers from their doom and if Sunako is one of the undead roaming around Sotoba as Sunako was shown looking at him at the window of the mansion.

A young girl named Shizuka appeared in Natsuno’s household one night as she persistently requested if she could enter the house (Possibly the fact about vampires needs to be invited before they could enter the house) and when Natsuno’s father asked her if she could return another day, she throws a deadly (and creepy tantrum) as she throws her puppet into the house. When this doesn’t work, her hand which she holds the puppet shown an even scarier face (as if there’s something or someone on her hand).

Natsuno’s father will turn into a loon sooner or later…

In the end, Natsuno’s mother allowed Shizuka to enter the house, which spells ‘TROUBLE’ in caps in episodes to come. Asking where Natsuno’s room is, Natsuno’s father reluctantly gave her directions, with Shizuka added that her ‘brother’ will turn up to the house later. Hmm…so kids, never let anyone into your house, even if the person’s a creepy kid with pale skin, a creepy smile and red eyes.

Thoughts:

The majority part of the story comes from Natsuno’s side and we can only hope that Toshio’s side is doing well in the next episode or so, if he could find a cause to end this vampire chase. It’s good to see how the teens are doing since it’s always been hoping between Natsuno and Toshio in their investigation.

I often wonder what’s happening inside the Kanemasa house, since we are only shown the exterior of it in certain scenes regarding it. It could be possible that something scary and disturbing is happening in there, just that we have to wait till the 2nd half of the series to surface. Ideas are running in my head about what’s going on in Shiki.

Don’t take this the wrong way. Who knows what vampires might do with us for our knowledge about them.

And seriously, at the last 5 minutes of this episode Shizuka, along with the above image scares the hell out of me I almost fell off my chair. Oh god, we might be expecting more out of this series, in a good way. Guess I’m going to experience nightmares tonight…oh my beauty sleep…and this makes Shizuka one of my least favorite character for what she done to Natsuno’s parents.

Big. Mistake.

The episodes are getting creepier and creepier! I think SHIKI is one of the best animes of 2010.

Yuuki sucks at burying people. What the hell was that? They just left a sloppy mess for the vampire to clean up afterward. That was pretty polite of the ol’ bloodsucker.

@Shinmaru. They knew that the vampire was still alive, and that he would only wake up again. Even if they did bury him completely, somebody would just dig him back up again. Plus, if the vampire doesn’t wake up, they want the adults to find him so that they would know what’s wrong with the village.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Japanese parents are way to nice to kids. If that brat didn’t deserve a few beats for being so bloody annoying then I don’t know… *grumble grumble*

    That is all.
