Winter 2012 Preview

I know it will be hard but Idolmaster is over, we must accept this painful though it is...

So it’s a new year and a new season for the most part, although it must be a sign of the end of times for anime fans everywhere for Gundam SEED is back. Take heart though for this talk of the world ending is wrong, because Cleveland Cavaliers have not won an NBA Championship nor have the Cleveland Browns won a Super Bowl. So unless we are all sinners in the hands of and angry God we have nothing to fear. At any rate Happy New Year people I hope this season you will find something to like.

A Message from the NKVD: Well its time once again to point out this is a preview, and not a review. That “p” makes a difference a very big difference in fact. On another note many of us are old grouchy mean spirited cynics and not wide eyed idealistic fat cat communist NEETs. If you are part of the “animu is SRSfkn business” part of the fandom do yourself a favor and just read the summary from ANN so you can preserve your fragile optimism for your harem animu. Other than that Liberty Prime is watching and ready to initiate directive 7395, destroy all communists.

Lupin III: Chi no Kuin Eien no Mermaid

Lupin III: Blood Seal - Eternal Mermaid (December 2011)

Animation Studio: TMS Entertainment
Source: Fansubwiki, MAL
Genre: Comedy, Shounen, Adventure
Summary: The latest TV special which will also feature a new cast.
Additional Details: Already Released aired in Early December. PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: As with every new iteration in the Lupin III it will please some and annoy others. Then there is the matter of a change in voice actors, which given how long in tooth the franchise is was inevitable. For me though it was enjoyable though I can see that if Cagliostro was you introduction you would have a few more quibbles. Mileage will vary as always, personally I found Maki to be marginally annoying.
ExecutiveOtaku: I’ve seen some of the old Lupin III series. It was pretty neat, but nothing that I got too excited over, so I’ll be skipping this one.
Hana: I haven’t seen any of the Lupin franchise yet, but I know that Cagliostro features highly on many people’s lists of favourite anime films, so I’d be up for this too.
Chronolynx: Have not seen a Lupin movie yet, and I probably won’t start with this one.
Mystlord: I’ve never seen any part of the Lupin franchise, and I likely won’t start here.
ghostlightning: I enjoyed Cagliostro, so a new movie is something I’m up for.
JohnnyYandere: Haven’t touched Lupin, probably won’t for the foreseeable future.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED HD Remastered

Gundam SEED HD (December 2011-January 2012)

Animation Studio: Sunrise
Source: Bandai
Genre: Sci-fi, Mecha
Summary:  Cosmic Era 71. A war is under way between genetically enhanced Coordinators and unmodified Naturals. The Natural-dominated Earth Alliance, struggling to catch up with the Coordinators’ superior technology, has secretly developed its own Gundam mobile suits at a neutral space colony. Through a twist of fate, a young Coordinator named Kira Yamato becomes the pilot of the Alliance’s prototype Strike Gundam, and finds himself forced to fight his own people in order to protect his friends.
Additional Details: Streams on Bandai site 12/23/2011, Satellite Broadcast 01/01/2012, TV Broadcast 01/03/2012

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: GET EXCITED FOLKS! GET EXCITED! Instead of coming at us with some repackaged AU Gundam Sunrise decided what we really wanted was Gundam SEED in HD. I can already hear the fanfare cresting over the Earth Sphere, maybe if all goes well we will get FIVE minutes of NEW Footage like Cagalli not getting hit with the stupid stick, Lacus with a Macross-class concert, and Fallay’s nether regions when she beds Kira in glorious HD I just hope they make the grunting in THX. GET EXCITED because we are getting the same laser show but now in seizure inducing HD, this is so FUCKING WORTH IT. It’s like Sunrise finally admitted that the only thing worth remastering was the most recent non-HD series. So sorry UC oldfags NEWFAGGOTRY is in and the Remastering of Gundam 0079, Gundam 0080, Gundam 8th MS Team, Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, and Char’s Counterattack never see the light of day. It’s Groundhog Day bitches and Gundam SEED is going to cash in with Destiny likely to follow. GET EXCITED FOLKS Space Whales are coming back. Now they can finally clear out their inventory of all those Cosmic Era kits AT FULL PRICE. If they can get every one to love Destiny then Cosmic Era will finally surpass Universal Century on Sunrise’s priority list.
ExecutiveOtaku: There’s so much hate for SEED among my fellow fans of old school Gundam series, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s not the best Gundam series by any reckoning (except maybe sales), but it was fun and a good time. I’d rather rewatch this than have another show like Gundam 00, something that made my brain shriek in pain at the writer’s complete ignorance of real world conflict and politics. SEED stays safely outside of topics the Sunrise writers obviously don’t understand, and for that I’m grateful. I’ll probably rewatch it, hmmm, I may even think about blogging it. It’ll be lot retroblogging in real time or something. Here’s to hoping they remake GSD but completely rewrite the latter 2/3s of it.
Hana: All yours, Gundamtards.
Chronolynx: Gundam Seed is actually the only Gundam I’ve finished. Probably not gonna rewatch it though.
Mystlord: I’ve never been big on the Gundam series.
ghostlightning: LOLOLOLOL I’m watching this already. I remember all the love, pain, and terribleness.
ReverseVampire: Recalling all the trainwreck which is called Gundam Seed Destiny. I’d pass.
JohnnyYandere: I’m starting to realize that Mecha really isn’t my thing. No matter how much I try, I just can’t like the genre.  Except for Dual! Parallel Adventure. Anyway no, not watching this.

Muuretsu Pirates/Bodacious Space Pirates

Bodacious Space Pirates (January 2012)

Animation Studio: Satelight
Source: ANN/MAL/Starchild
Genre: Sci-fi, Space
Summary: The story centers around a spirited high school girl named Marika. She keeps herself busy with the space yacht club and her part-time job at a high-class retro café. One day, two men suddenly appear and claim to be subordinates of her dead father. They demand that she assume command of the space pirate ship Benten Maru. A privateer ship’s compact was made during a war of independence a century ago, and according to that compact, the ship must be inherited by the captain’s next direct descendant. Marika finds herself embarking on a new life as a space pirate.
Additional Details: Official site and PV can be found here. English title seems to be Bodacious Space Pirates.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Satelight is involved so given their track record I expect a drop in animation at times. Still there needs to be more pirate movies because pirates are cool. I was glad to see that there will be some space battles and dogfights, and given how EPIC Macross Frontier could be during those moments I eagerly anticipate some superb fleet actions and budget breaking dog fights. Sadly there will be no variable fighters but hopefully the same kinetic energy will carry over. So grab and eye patch, ditch your pet for a parrot, sharpen your cutlass and go for the booty matey. It sounds bodacious at least.
ExecutiveOtaku: At first I thought this sounded really stupid, but after seeing the preview clip it might be kinda fun. The visual and behavioral fanservice stuff seems lame, but aside from that it looks like it might be pretty fun. Sort of like Outlaw Star but not as stylish or cool, but watchable nonetheless. Or so I hope.
Hana: So, cute girls doing cute things in space? Well, at least the production values and character designs look decent, and the main lead seems fairly strong, the spirited/ optimistic type I guess, without appearing too annoying. Not one for me, but seems like a fun adventure series, judging by the trailer, so for those who are into this genre, enjoy it.
Chronolynx: Maybe if some of the pirates are hot enough.
Mystlord: The summary for this one just sounds awful. I see it as another iteration of your (insert shounen anime here). I mean I’ll just generalize the summary for you guys right here: “The story centers around your average high school student who is involved with clubs and part time work. Then suddenly something happens that changes his/her life forever, thus leading to a fantastical journey where the main character inevitably changes for the better while living a life far more fulfilling than the boring high school one.” There have been a lot of series that follow this trend, and I get the feeling that the themes for the show will be rather bland. That being said, execution is always key for these types of series, so we’ll just have to wait and see. (PS – The English name doesn’t exactly give me the highest hopes for this one.)
ghostlightning: I’m not averse to trying this out, but it could be really really awful.
ReverseVampire: Teenage girls and pirates doesn’t add up for me. Unless this turns out to be a sleeper hit, I’m not going near this series.
JohnnyYandere: Star Ocean/Infinite Space as an anime? Yes. Oh yes. Or it could be One Piece in space and that’ll be the end of it.

Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama/ The New Prince of Tennis

The New Prince of Tennis (January 4, 2012)

Animation Studio: MSC and Production I.G
Source: ANN
Genre: Tennis, Sports, Shounen
Summary: Adaptation of The New Prince of Tennis manga by Takeshi Konomi, which has been running in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine since 2009. The story begins several months after the national tennis tournament that ended the original Prince of Tennis manga.
Additional Details: Official site can be found here. Due out on the 4th January 2012.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Did I just hear something about an All Star Team? That better not be a code word for lackluster and lazy play like an NBA All-Star Game. I want to see these guys play and play hard on grass, concrete, clay! If it is clay then I want to see it soaked with BLOOD and SWEAT, that how women love their bishies and that is the way it’s got to be. I want to see the next winner of Wimbledon to come out of this league and not freaking Nadal, Federer, or Murray.
ExecutiveOtaku: Nope nope nope.
Hana: I haven’t seen any Prince of Tennis stuff yet and (unless this turns out not to be a heavily tennis-/ action-centric show and focuses on amazing characters and back-stories instead) I intend to keep it that way.
Chronolynx: Why would I watch Prince of Tennis when I can just read the doujins?
Mystlord: Oh jeez. I actually watched through a fair chunk of the series when I was younger, but now I really can’t imagine myself watching it. At some point, the crazy tennis techniques just began to wear thin on me. Also, the main character is really boring >.>
ghostlightning: Holy crap this is going to be soooo bad. And I won’t be able to help myself and watch it with the wife.
ReverseVampire: Watched a few episodes of the first season and looking at boys who can pass as adults playing tennis almost bored me to death.
JohnnyYandere: Toss in some homosexual innuendo and I’ll be on this like a tongue on dry ice.

Rinne no Lagrange

Rinne-no-Lagrange (January 9, 2012)

Animation Studio: Xebec
Source: Crunchyroll, ANN, MAL
Genre: Sci-fi, Mecha, Comedy
Summary: Madoka is the lone member of her school’s Jersey Club. She is one day recruited by a mysterious girl named Lan to pilot the robot “Vox” and protect her city from space invaders. They are joined by a third girl, Muginami, who has a different goal than Ran. Meanwhile, they still don’t know their enemies’ true goal, or what “Rinne” might be.
Additional Details: Tatsuo Satou (Martian Successor Nadesico) is involved and Production I.G. is in for an assist. Nissan will be involved in mechanical design, it could be a plus if you like Nissan cars. PV video can be found here. There are indications of a second season, so at least they are confident that they can keep interest for 26 episodes. Licensed by Viz Media.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: I can’t remember the last time I saw a mecha PV where the primary mecha gets trashed in a fist fight, then again I am getting old. This might be good, then again it all depends on how much you trust Xebec and how much of an assist Production I.G. will provide . I just hope the mecha action will be there and that it will be largely fist fights and hand to hand, extra points to be awarded for an ERUPTING BURNING FINGER. Still it is mecha and there is a fortuitous lack of loser Y Chromosome, so it might work. After seeing the first episode via the pre-air I can tell you that it is frenetic and it goes from dour to comedy in a snap. It seems to lean towards being light hearted and as for mecha combat, well she does a suplex on the opposing robot. As for the lead she’s rather lively with her signature perfect move, also given how generous they were with bathing suits and showers this pretty much aimed squarely at dudes. Production quality is hard to discern at this point, but I like it already.
ExecutiveOtaku: The staff lined up behind this are very impressive, so I’ll be checking this one out. I just wish we could have action/mecha series without all the main characters being cutesy girls (similar problem with how Muuretsu Pirates looks.) The mecha design wasn’t doing it for me, but it is mecha so I’m obliged to stick with it for a bit. The directors having worked on Nadesico and Heroic Age has to be a good thing.
Hana: Staff and production look good, but then again so did Star Driver. Clearly, I’m not a mecha fan and the summaries and trailer do nothing to indicate that this show will add anything new to the ‘girls and robots’ set-up. If you like formulaic mecha shows, not doubt you’ll get something out of this. Or, at least, I hope you will.
Chronolynx: Depends on which Xebec is doing this. Would be awesome if it turns out like Nadesico.
Mystlord: Umm see my comment for Muuretsu Pirates. The description kind of reminds me of Star Driver though.
ghostlightning: Will definitely try out with fingers crossed.
ReverseVampire: Given Production I.G.’s recent track records, like Muuretsu Pirates I’m not convinced that this show will gain anyone’s attention.
JohnnyYandere: Shameless fanservice of girls playing tennis? SOLD. Wait, that’s not actually what this anime is about? I might give this a shot, provided that the Mecha bits are less Gundam and more Guilty Crown.  Not that Guilty Crown wasn’t a trainwreck, but at least the Mecha wasn’t hogging the spotlight.

Ano Natsu de Matteru

Ano Natsu de Matteru (January 9, 2012)

Animation Studio: J.C. Staff
Source: ANN
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Summary: Not a great deal known at this point, except that after working on the Toradora! and Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai anime together, director Tatsuyuki Nagai and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka are reuniting for this series, so there is considerable anticipation based on this collabortion alone.
Additional Details: Official website can be found here. A PV can also be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Yeah mixed track record, but it could still be a good rom-com.
ExecutiveOtaku: The Toradora/Ano Hana pair back together again? Count me in, even if I can’t tell much of anything based on that preview.
Hana: Never got around to watching Toradora! and dropped AnoHana half-way through, so the production team doesn’t necessarily draw me in. The PV is pretty short and doesn’t give much away either, other than the fact that it’s a J.C. Staff rom-com, lol. However, it is a rom-com, with decent visuals and mix of male and female characters with some slice of life vibes, so I’ll give it the first epi test.
Chronolynx: If male lead-kun is moe-moe enough, sure. Why not.
Mystlord: Uhh… Well if there’s no real info…
ghostlightning: You’ll have to let me know if it’s something I can get into. I liked Toradora! but AnoHana was terrible.
ReverseVampire: I’m watching the first two episodes to see whether this show dares to be different from other slice-of-life shows or turns out to be moefest in disguise.
JohnnyYandere: Haven’t gotten around to AnoHana, but Toradora OVA made me high as a kite. Maybe, just maybe, the magic will keep going.

Baby, Please Kill Me!

Airs January 5, 2012

Animation Studio: JC Staff
Source: MAL, ANN
Genre: Comedy
Summary: Kill Me Baby is a 4-panel style manga that follows the comedic life of a typical school girl Yasuna and her assassin classmate Sonya. Sonya’s attempt to fit in often fails when her natural assassin instincts kick in and Yasuna’s attempt to be more friendly with Sonya often gets her hurt or intimidated. Kill Me Baby’s cute sense of humor will keep you wanting more.
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: There’s not much to go on in the PV, just a song where Kill Me Baby is looped roughly three/four times. That being said there was some Russian inserted, but it’s really hard to gauge how funny the show is actually going to be. Based prior series based on 4koma it can be really hit or miss.
ExecutiveOtaku: Sounds too much like Nichijyou‘s style of humor, pass.
Hana: Well, if moe meets violent slaptick comedy is your thing, then it might be a good one to giggle over.
Chronolynx: Ahahahahaha no.
Mystlord: Not enough info. 4-koma adaptations can be really hit or miss, so we’ll have to see. The result can be anything from K-On to SYD to Nichijou to Working!!
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: Nay, I’d pass.
JohnnyYandere: Dare I dream of Nichijou with guns? Cautious optimism!

Amagami SS+

Rihoko better get a fair deal this time.

Animation Studio: AIC
Source: ANN, MAL, Famitsu
Genre: Romance
Summary: Second Season of Amagami SS.

Two years ago, Tachibana Junichi got his heart broken by a girl who didn’t show up for a date on Christmas Eve. Now a second year student in high school, Junichi spends his days inside his closet planetarium, going to school and hanging out with his friends Tanamachi Kaoru and Umehara Masayoshi.

After a chance encounter with one of the most beautiful girls in school, the third year student Morishima Haruka, Junichi finds himself spending time with her, carrying books for her or having her unexpectedly jump on his back and act as she’s a jockey and he’s her horse. Soon enough, Junichi becomes romantically interested in Haruka which leads to…

Amagami SS is based on a PS2 dating game featuring six different girls. The story of the anime will be arranged in an omnibus format, with each heroine getting her own version of the story animated. Each heroine will sing her own version of the ending theme song.

Additional Details: PVs can be found here and here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: FUCK YEAH. Though that being said I am not all too keen on reliving some of the more painful arcs that were underwhelming in some cases and out right infuriating in the case of how Rihoko got screwed. They will have to do something different, but if Rihoko gets screwed again some one’s office building is going to get OCCUPIED.
ExecutiveOtaku: Justice for Rihoko! I’m not sure why they decided to release another omnibus format adaptation of this so soon, but I don’t care! Well, let’s qualify that enthusiasm. The original adaptation’s highs were as significant as its lows. The Haruka and Tsukasa arcs were amazingly good, but the Ai arc was the abyss of storytelling. Maybe they’ll get her right this time, and make some needed improvements to the Kaoru arc too. And by Madoka, I want a Takahashi-sensei OVA arc! Will team up with Crusader if he decides to blog this one, or maybe blog on my own if I pick this over the other series that have caught my interest.
Hana: This sounds just as one-dimentional as the first season. In other words, anime versions of dating games for boys are not my thing and nor will they ever be. Next.
Chronolynx: I can’t even remember the last time I liked a show like this. If I ever did.
Mystlord: I still can’t believe that I watched through the entirety of the first season. I might skip around and watch some of the good arcs though. That’s pretty much the problem with series like this. There’s really nothing that truly draws you in throughout the whole series.
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: Harems (Reverse harems are a different thing altogether) aren’t my thing. Sorry.
JohnnyYandere: MORISHIMA-SENPAISSSU. And Yandere Ayatsuji nude photoshoot. And NANASAKI AI MIZUGI POWER. I don’t actually care about the other arcs, because I know Morishima’s going to be crashing each story anyway (although the new girl intrigues me). If Tsukahara Hibiki gets an actual episode to herself I will totally buy the Blu-Rays. Let’s go baby.

High School DxD

Airs January 6, 2012

Animation Studio: TNK
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, Romance
Summary: The story follows Issei Hyodo, a dim-witted, lecherous second-year high school student who is killed by a girl on his first date ever. Issei is reincarnated as a devil, and from that day forward, he serves as an underling of Riasu, a high-level devil who is also the prettiest girl on Issei’s campus.
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: GET EXCITED FOLKS for once we have a legit lecherous male who is in thrall to the prettiest girl in school, and guess what every girl he meets wants to claim him as her own. This concept is so new I can’t believe this has never been attempted before. Just look at the size of that TALENT how could this possibly be terrible?
ExecutiveOtaku: Thought process: IF ecchi AND/OR sports THEN disregard.
Hana: I can’t believe I actually clicked on the link to the PV. I’ll save you the trouble, in case the ‘ecchi’ tag swayed you either way: you get each girl in the above image appear on her own, then a close up, highlighted with a red circle, of each set of boobs. Then the above picture in its entirity. Then the embedded PV video appears. Needless to say, I didn’t need to press ‘play’. Eugh.
Chronolynx: Still laughing from the description. I must hate anime.
Mystlord: Hahaha the summary for the ecchi series of each season is always hilarious. I don’t think that this series will really break outside of the mold of its genre. Small differences in plot or whatever won’t ever override the ecchi.
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: If you have a flat chest, this can only mean one thing: You will remain single for the rest of your life. In anime world, boys only fall for girls with a big booty.
JohnnyYandere: … well I suppose if this anime turned out the way I want it to be, I’d might as well be watching hentai instead. Hoping that it’ll be more MajiKoi and less Maken-Ki. Really, Maken-Ki was garbage.

She tries to dominate the school with her beauty but her plan is spoiled by the silly and pervert behaviors of her eccentric classmates.
Additional Details: No PVs, and no sub group has declared intent to sub it…

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: So little data to work with but if it is what it sounds like then it can either be plain terrible or so terrible it’s great. Still the dearth of interest and news does bode ill…
Hana: …indeed it doesn’t, Crusader-senpai. Next.
Chronolynx: I see scantily clad women. NEXT.
Mystlord: According to those who have read the manga, it’s just completely mindless fanservice and sexual innuendos. Not for me. I am somewhat curious though since the author of the manga is female, so I kind of want to see how this is stylistically.
ghostlightning: No idea what this show is.
ReverseVampire:…err, what was the story about again?
JohnnyYandere: I have sources who tell me that this is going to be Yuru Yuri on crack. I honestly don’t care whether there are fansubbers for this, because shameless Yuri fanservice? I’m totally down for that. Sleeper hit of Spring 2012 fo sho.

Aquarion Evol

Airs January 9, 2012

Just had to throw in the mecha designs, likely to be variable as well.

Animation Studio: Satelight
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Mecha, Sci-fi, Romance
Summary: The story will take place 12,000 years after the first Aquarion television series at a city modeled after Hong Kong. A new cast of characters, piloting a new Aquarion robot, will fight enemies from another dimension.
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: I probably couldn’t stay away even if I wanted to, but variable fighters highly likely…
ExecutiveOtaku: Woah, woah woah! Sci-fi and romance? Count me in! Never saw the original series, and I prefer my mecha to fight other mecha, not swarms of aliens, but that said, this looks really cool. There are so many shows I’m thinking about blogging though, so I probably won’t be up for writing about this one.
Hana: Looks pretty, in a moody, gothic kind of way. The music seems great too, but… it’s mecha… and this is Hana… so, um, yea-no.
Chronolynx: I mostly liked Aquarion. Maybe we’ll finally get some closure this time.
Mystlord: Ummm yeah this has to be watched. Feeling nostalgic.
ghostlightning: Oh maaan, Aquarion as a whole is filled with so much ugh. But I won’t be able to stay away from this.
ReverseVampire: Never watched the original series. But I’ll give it a try.
JohnnyYandere: I don’t know. This looks like Fate/Stay with Mecha. And I don’t like either of them. It might be greater than the sum of its parts, I’ll watch the first episode at least.

Additional Details:PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: It’s a spin off, but it might still be a great spin off given the pedigree, I suppose it all depends if you latched onto the Karen Sisters when Bakemonogatari aired, if you didn’t you’d be a fool to demand it light your world on fire, but if you were a confessed admirer and wish to bask in their glory you just got you wish.
ExecutiveOtaku: Definitely watching. I loved Bakemonogatari so I can’t wait for more stories with those characters, in that world. The only problem I have with it is the character redesigns of most of the characters. Just doesn’t look right. But maybe it’ll grow on me. I’m really looking forward to more of that ‘SHAFT turned up to 11′ visual style that the predecessor series had.
Hana: It’s a spin-off from a series that I didn’t follow the first time around, so I’m afraid I’m not going to prioritise checking this out based on that reason alone. Unless someone (or rather, several someones) tell me that it’s more that just the cute girls doing supernaturally cute things vibe that I just got from that PV. Hmm.
Chronolynx: I hope it’s just weird pictures while everybody talks for 20 minutes. Would watch the shit out of that.
Mystlord: *Head desk* I thought Bakemonogatari was really cool when I first saw it. Upon rewatches though, the style kind of wore thin on me. I want actual visual stimulation, not random camera angles that add nothing more to the scene other than a way of making it so you have something to watch other than talking heads. This might just be me coming off of a Penguindrum induced high though. I’ll see. Although to be COMPLETELY frank, I’m very tempted to not watch this at all on first release and wait for the BDs, because SHAFT always adds so much stuff to the BDs that the TV airing looks like trash.
ghostlightning: I’m all over this.
ReverseVampire: Let’s talk and talk and talk and talk about things that goes into the realm of the surreal. More panty shots (that are always relevant to the plot) please!
JohnnyYandere: Hitagi and Tsubasa with short hair? And genki Suruga playboy centrefold? Karen and Tsukihi and Mayoi and Nadeko loli goodness? The only reason I don’t want to blog this is that I don’t think I can do Nisemonogatari the justice it deserves.

Genre: Comedy
Summary: Segawa Yuta is a freshman of a university. He lost his parents when he was small and was raised by his sister Yuri. Yuta has been living alone since Yuri got married to a middle aged man when Yuta was a junior high student. One day, Yuri visited Yuta’s apartment and asked him to take care of her three daughters while Yuri and her husband were on a trip. He unwillingly accepted the job but the plane Yuri took went missing. In order to prevent the daughters from being adopted separately by relatives, Yuta decided to take in all three girls. A life of a strange family in a tiny apartment begins. (The elder two of the daughters are stepchildren of Yuri’s husband. The smallest one is Yuri’s child.)
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: It’s like Christmas actually came for loli-cons, for this year instead of ending up with dirty coal they will get their dream series where some guy gets three little girls without the pain of dealing with the fires of pregnancy. Best of all NBR status to avoid legal as well as genetic complications. Of course this is going to be a great series about parenting and raising little girls, along with properly chaste activities… Rated E for Everyone I assure you.
ExecutiveOtaku: Nothing about this looks good.
Hana: (*Once I’ve stopped laughing at the name of the studio:*) What Crusader said.
Chronolynx: Cannot run away fast enough.
Mystlord: Hahahaha… I might watch an episode for the lulz. I don’t think anything lasting will come out of it though.
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: Urg, I swear that the majority of men over the age of 35 in Japan are lolicon. Seriously guys, older women are appealing too. (No, I’m not referring to women with big boobs.)
JohnnyYandere: This could go either way. It could be something along the lines of Lotte no Omocha, and though I’m no saint, sexualization of lolis can only go so far. The other path is the way of Usagi Drop, and I highly doubt it’ll even approach that level of awesomeness. I’ll give it a go, fingers crossed.

Animation Studio: Brains Base
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Shoujo, Fantasy, Supernatural
Summary: Fourth season. Natsume’s just an ordinary kid, except he can see spirits, just like his grandma Reiko could. Reiko, though, used to bully the spirits, and bound them to her will in the “Book of Friends”. Now that Natsume has inherited this book, a never-ending stream of spirits is coming after him. With the help of a spirit “cat” (who really just wants Natsume to die so he can have the book), Natsume spends his days dissolving the contracts that bind the spirits and trying not to get killed.
Additional Details: PV Can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Wow four seasons now? It must be something special but it’s not my cup of tea, still don’t let that stop you if you are the least bit curious.
ExecutiveOtaku: So much Natsume, so many seasons I haven’t seen yet. Well, I guess that just means more for me to watch in a row once I finally get to watching this series. Passing on this for now, but the franchise is on my t0-watch list.
Hana: All over this like whipped cream over Belgian waffles with strawberries and chocolate sauce. Hell yes.
Chronolynx: yes I said yes I will Yes
Mystlord: Didn’t watch the previous seasons.
ghostlightning: No idea what this is.
ReverseVampire: I’m surprised that this show already has a fourth season. I bet there’s a fifth season in the makings as I’m writing this. (Not being sarcastic here.)
JohnnyYandere: Season 3 seemed to drag on and on and on after a great start. Here’s hoping that Natsume actually gets things done this time. Watching predominantly for Nyanko-sensei and Misuzu, who is a BEAST.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes

Airs January 5, 2012

Animation Studio: J.C. Staff
Source: Crunchyroll, MAL
Genre: Comedy, Mystery
Summary: Sheryl, Nero, Elly, and Cordelia are the most popular students at Holmes Detective Academy, because of the many cases they’ve solved with their Toys and teamwork. The students and the people of the Detective City Yokohama all look up to the members of “Milky Holmes”, as they’re called. But on a dark and stormy night, during a battle with their rivals “The Gentlemen Thief Empire”, they lose their toys, and their fate undergoes a dramatic change… Second Season.
Additional Details: PV can be found here and here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Not my cup of tea nor my kind of opium pipe but it did get a second season so there must be something that is lighting other people’s world on fire.
ExecutiveOtaku: Not a bad show the first time around, but it couldn’t really hold my interest either. But there seems to be a lot of fans of this (or at least a vocal small amount) so I’m sure they’ll be happy.
Hana: So, more Sherlock Holmes getting raped by K-ON!. Still no.
Chronolynx: This is the sound of me going crazy. I must *really* hate anime.
Mystlord: Hahaha a second season. Obviously I’ll watch this for Twenty. THOSE NIPPLES SO BEAUUUUTIIFULLLL.
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: As much as people like the first season, there are other shows in previous seasons deserve another chance of a second season run.
JohnnyYandere: I have 3 of the 4 girls’ signatures! …but other than that no interest whatsoever.

Senhime Zesshou Symphogear

Airs Devember 26, 2012

Animation Studio: Satelight, Encourage Films
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Action, Music
Summary: Humans have been menaced by mysterious monsters called “Designated Aberrant Disaster: Noise”. Tsubasa and Kanade are a popular vocal unit “Twei Wing”. They wear the new weapon “Symphogear” and fight against Noise to save the earth.
Additional Details: Airs December 26, 2011

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Will watch subs when it comes out, it’s early air date probably mitigates the need for a PV.
ExecutiveOtaku: No idea, will pass unless I hear good things.
Hana: Not much to go on as I write this, so I guess it’s… music to combat monsters? Well, if you like vocaloid and action, then it might be your thing. (Un)fortunately, it’s not mine.
Chronolynx: I don’t even know anymore.
Mystlord: The first thing that popped into my head was Macross. I really don’t know what to expect for this though.
ghostlightning: No idea what this is.
ReverseVampire: I will definitely watch the gag sub version if there’s any on the web. Been into Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series over the autumn season.
JohnnyYandere: This makes me wish there was a Panty Stocking & Garterbelt movie. I’ll see how it goes.

Airs January 8, 2012

Animation Studio: Studio Sakimakura
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Action, Historical, Adventure
Summary: A year before the battle of Sekigahara that ended the Sengoku Period, the ninja Saizou Kirigakure meets the miko Nami Isa as she’s attacked by assassins. Her shrine was destroyed by Tokugawa Ieyasu for siding with Yukimura Sanada. Meanwhile, Sanada has been gathering ten warriors known as Sanada’s Brave 10, who have the power to change history. As they gather one by one, Nami’s own mysterious power awakens.
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Some how I get the sinking feeling that this will not involve a long drawn out siege that involves cannons and Tokugawa being a devious bastard. Still one can’t help but wonder what new variation we are in for with this new Sanada Yukimura, though what looks to be certain is that he won’t get be-headed like the IRL one.
ExecutiveOtaku: I like feudal Japanese history, and even creative reinterpretations of it, but there are just too many shows like this and most of them don’t hold my interest long. Pass.
Hana: I’m guessing it does exactly what it says on the tin. In other words, for those who like action shows with historical bishies/ bishiefied historical GAR people. Still, the production values look decent, as do what I saw of the fight scenes in the PV. More for the Sengoku Basara, as opposed to the Hakuouki, crowd though, methinks.
Chronolynx: Could be fun.
ghostlightning: No idea what this is.
ReverseVampire: I’ll give it a try. It won’t hurt seeing the Sengoku crew in a different light.
JohnnyYandere: IS DIS SUM SAMURAI WARRIORS ANIME? No it isn’t, but it’s possibly the closest I can get to one.

Black * Rock Shooter

Airs February 3, 2012

Animation Studio: Ordet/Sanzigen
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Action, Drama, School
Summary: According to the official website, a TV anime of Black★Rock Shooter will be aired on the noitaminA programming block from January 2012.
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: It’s dark, it’s gothic, the Google translation of the synopsis mentioned something about a girls going to school and making bonds. Other than that it could be a dark magical girl series. It gets that special slot and I hope they make the most of it.
ExecutiveOtaku: I really, really want to hate on this just to piss off all the vocaloid fans who have been freaking out about it for so long, but it could actually be good so I’ll wait until I’ve seen it. Another dark magical girl series could be cool, but it certainly won’t be another Madoka Magica. But allow me to have a mini-rant for a moment here. THIS. IS. NOT. NOITAMINA! What the hell were they thinking putting this show in that timeslot? noitaminA used to mean something, damn it! It was supposed to be a timeslot to attract nontraditional anime viewers, not push the same stuff that plays in every other anime timeslot. Is this going to bring in people who might not be interested in anime? Nope, it’s about as stereotypically anime as you can get. Older viewers, women viewers? Nope, it looks like guns and fanservice. This is in the timeslot that showed series like Honey and Clover, Moyashimon, and House of Five Leaves. How the mighty have fallen, to the detriment of us all…
Hana: So, this one is vocaloid-y girls with guns? I never saw the OVA, but judging by the above info. and the trailer, it’s basically one for the OVA fans and/ or fans of dark magical girl series. I.e. not me, irregardless of certain timeslots (in which case, I’m guessing it’s more of the calibre of Fractale/ No. 6/ Guilty Crown, rather than Wandering Son/ Usagi Drop/ Un-Go).
Chronolynx: Nope.
ghostlightning: I actually blogged BRS here on THAT. I’m not thrilled about the whole thing, but will try it out.
ReverseVampire: Watched the OVA of BRS and I hope Ordet can balance the school and Magical Girl aspects properly. The OVA spent too much time on the former.
JohnnyYandere: I’ll give this a shot and maybe finally figure out why BRS has such a devoted fanbase.

Airs December 26, 2012

Animation Studio: PA Works
Source: MAL, ANN
Genre: Mystery, Drama, Horror
Summary: 26 years ago, in a third-year classroom of a middle school, there was a student named Misaki. As an honors student who was also good at sports, the charming girl was popular with her classmates. When she suddenly died, her classmates decided to carry on as if she was still alive until graduation. Then, in the spring of 1998, a boy named Sakakibara Kouichi transfers to that classroom, and he grows suspicious of the fearful atmosphere in that classroom. In particular, there is a beautiful, aloof girl named Mei Misaki who wears an eyepatch and is always alone drawing pictures.
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: They sure want to get creepy with this one and I confess the PV is disturbing if rather light on information, but that can also be part of the fun. I just hope for those who dare that it will be a better payoff than Angel Beats.
ExecutiveOtaku: Looks like it could be cool, even with that sort of over-the-top/cheesy horror music playing during the PV. Will definitely be checking it out. It is, after all, PA Works. I hope that the Shiki connection with the writer means we’ll get something on the same level of awesome.
Hana: Man, it feels like I haven’t seen a decent horror-mystery show in ages. Thankfully, this looks pretty promising, with ‘looks’ being the operative for now (all hail PA Works!), and what sounds like a solid cast behind the scenes. Will look forward to checking this one out.
Chronolynx: I am wary of PA Works. But I will give you a shot. Don’t turn into Hanasaku Iroha!
ghostlightning: Let me know if it’s something I can get into.
ReverseVampire: After my experience with Shiki last summer (Trivia: the author of Another is the husband of Fuyumi Ono, the author who wrote Shiki, The Twelve Kingdoms and Ghost Hunt), I don’t think I would want to touch another horror series for another year or two. I also hope that it doesn’t turn into another Blood-C over its run.
JohnnyYandere: Ditto ReverseVampire, please not be another Blood-C. Or at least make it somewhat believable and less repetitive. But giant Kyubey monsters killing humans in myriad fashions is fine too.

Inu x Boku SS

Airs January 13, 2012

Animation Studio: David Production
Source: MAL, ANN
Genre: Comedy, Mystery, Shounen
Summary: The Shirakiin house’s daughter, Shirakiin Riricho, who has a complex about being unable to live independently and unprotected, feels the need to move out and live on her own under the condition of residing in the mansion named “Ayakashi Kan.” In this mansion, only those who have cleared a very strict examination could reside in it, and for each resident, they are accompanied with one agent of the Secret Service (S.S.). Although Riricho has rejected the company of the S.S., while residing in the mansion she finds out that the agent dedicated to protecting her is actually the Fox Spirit whom she previously rescued.
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Looks to be more of a butler series about loyalty than about the dreaded reputation of the SS. I can understand how and why they can get away with SS, still I suppose little girl and her furry friend are going to have an interesting time, drinking tea and plotting to take over the world.
ExecutiveOtaku: Not sure about this one. Is it like Kuroshitsuji with a female lead? Hard to say but I think there’s some potential for decent comedy here. Will have to wait and see though.
Hana: Not a bad PV and it certainly looks very pretty. However, the premise sounds silly, I can’t see the comedy being particularly edgy, and the mystery will likely be fairly flimsy and centred around the probably-not-that-interesting-after-all foxy bodyguard. Unless I gather more info. or hear otherwise, it’ll probably be mediocre at best.
Chronolynx: Doubtful. She sounds like the sort of lead I despise.
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: I’ve read all the chapters available of Inu X Boku SS. Will definitely give it a shot, though I have to say the manga’s hard to follow at times.
JohnnyYandere: Can’t quite figure out if this is pandering to the males or the females. That loli be giving me Kuroneko vibes. The butler is so overdone. What the heck, I’ll try this out.

Zero no Tsukaima F

Airs January 7, 2012

Animation Studio: J.C. Staff
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Ecchi
Summary: Meet Louise, a budding magician. The students at the Tristein Academy call her “Zero Louise”, due to her current record of zero successes with magic. In fact, her magic tends to go spectacularly wrong. Now, as an important test of her aptitude for magic, she must summon a familiar to be her servant. At this critical moment, she summons up all her magic and wishes for a familiar that is “devoted, beautiful and powerful”, and gets… Hiraga Saito, an ordinary Japanese boy. It’s difficult to say who is more surprised and dismayed, but the rules don’t allow for second attempts. Louise is stuck with her strange familiar, and he with her. Fourth and final season.
Additional Details: PV can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: There are many ways to give meaning to that F, but for argument’s sake it really should be for “FINALLY.” This is really just for the diehards that lasted this long through the fires of Saito and Louise, and for those die-hards I urge them to finish what they start because no one likes quitters. No matter the pain no matter how often Siesta can’t achieve total and FINAL victory, YOU MUST GO ON! GET EXCITED Siesta is going for another hot tub scene that goes no where. GET LOUD for Louise as she stakes out her claim. Good to see that Saito has refused to get new clothes despite the passage of 3 seasons.
ExecutiveOtaku: Never saw the previous series, and no interest in seeing them either. Skipping.
Hana: A finale to a series that I haven’t been following, so I’m afraid I’m unable to comment on this one. (Read: Like hell I’d be watching something with an ‘ecchi’ tag, anyway.)
Chronolynx: Have not watched previous entries, not about to start.
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: I’m already sick and tired of watching tsundere-centered series the moment I became an anime fan. Yes, get this show over with (along with the final season of Shana) so that other better shows can take over.
JohnnyYandere: Uhm. I’ve read doujinshi of this. My interest ends there, sadly.

Danshi Koukousei Nichijou

Airs January 9, 2012

Animation Studio: Sunrise
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy
Summary: The original gag comedy manga follows the humorous yet “realistic” everyday life of Tadakuni, Hidenori, Yoshitake, and other students at a boys’ high school.
Additional Details: PV Can be found here. English title is tentatively Daily Lives of High School Boys.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: It could be funny, though how funny is hard to discern from the PV. Still it doesn’t just ooze awful so it is worth taking a low risk chance on.
ExecutiveOtaku: So, following on the heels of Kimi to Boku, I think we can now say that ‘cute boys doing cute things’ is now a genre similar to CGDCT. But unlike the previous series, this one actually looks funny, like something I might actually want to watch. Heading into this one with some optimism.
Hana: LOL at those PVs, especially the fourth one. Hopefully, this will go some way towards filling the void left by Arakawa and Nichijou. Yay for everyday-zany comedy goodness!
Chronolynx: Fuck yes, moe boys! Between this and Natsume I might just die.
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: I gave up on Kimi to Boku on episode five. Won’t hurt checking this out.
JohnnyYandere: Oh God, such high level trolls. This is what I wish my high school life was like. Totally watching this. (If that girl in the background is a god-tier trap I will weep tears of supreme ecstasy.)

Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki

Airs January 8, 2012

Source: ANN, MAL, Fansub wiki
Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life
Summary: A slice of life anime about the Sato family, who keeps a round shaped cat named “Poyo”.
Additional Details: No PV readily found, official site can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: It’s about a cat, as to everything else that is the question…
ExecutiveOtaku: Pass. Shows like this often don’t get subbed anyway.
Hana: It’s about a cat? It gets the first epi test.
Chronolynx: >Deen >cat >nope
ghostlightning: Nope, not interested.
ReverseVampire: Nyan!
JohnnyYandere: Sorata in Sekai-Ichi was pretty badass. Why not.

Recorder to Randoseru

Airs January 6, 2012

Animation Studio: Seven
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: School
Summary: Miyagawa Atsushi is an 11-year-old boy who is 180 centimeters tall. Since he has a grown-up looking build but acts his age, he has always been running into troubles. On the other hand, his 17-year-old elder sister Atsumi is only 137 centimeters tall. Even though she has a childish looking build, Atsumi takes good care of Atsushi.
Additional Details: Rie Kugimiya is voicing the sister, that might make a difference for some of you. Strangely no PVs, even at this juncture but official site can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: Not sure what it will be about but the character list is dominated by XX Chromosome, that said it hasn’t been billed as ecchi. However there is little to go on even without the PV.
ExecutiveOtaku: I’ll take a look, but not expecting much. We’ll see though.
Hana: As already mentioned, not much to go on, so I assume it’ll be a comedy series revolving around that ‘appearances vs. reality’ theme highlighted in the summary. Though, rather than funny, the fact that the characters are an 11 year old boy in the body of a full grown bishie and a grown up girl in the body of a loli just sounds creepy. Cue the inappropriate behaviour displayed by all, eh. Then again, it could be a thoughtful series exploring social attitudes towards young men and women who defy being pigeon-holed into stereotypical roles and behaviours. Well, you never know.
Chronolynx: Will maybe check this out, depending.
ghostlightning: No idea what this is.
ReverseVampire: Not interested.
JohnnyYandere: It sounds so bad, I have to watch it. I just have to.

Thermae Romae

Airs January 13, 2012

Animation Studio: DLE Inc.
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Historical, Comedy
Summary: The story is a comedy about Lucius, an architect of public bath houses in ancient Rome, who time-travels to various modern-day baths in Japan. The author explores the two cultures in the world “that have loved baths the most: the Japanese and the Romans.”
Additional Details: PV Can be found here. Only cleared for three episodes as well.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: The animation is different so that is going to turn a lot of people off, but I am curious as to how Roman this is going to be. Still if nothing else it will be short, but hopefully sweet.
ExecutiveOtaku: That’s…different. Will take a look if it gets subbed.
Hana: I am completely intrigued. At the very least, I’ll give it the three epi test. Wait.
Chronolynx: This could be entertaining.
ReverseVampire: Back to watching Hetalia. They make history so much more fun than this.
JohnnyYandere: I’m pretty sure that this is going to be sweet, blissful pain to watch. Flash animation + this(at least that’s what the old guy sounds like)? I’m all in.

Knight in the Area

Airs January 7, 2012

Animation Studio: DLE Inc.
Source: ANN, MAL
Genre: Sports, Comedy
Summary: Believing himself to be useless at football, Aizawa Kakeru opts to become the manager of his school’s football team, while his brother Suguru is its ace, and is even good enough to represent Japan. However, Kakeru may be harbouring a strong talent within himself that only Suguru can see, and the two often get into arguments over Kakeru’s denial of his skills. Things are made more complicated with the return of Nana, an old playmate of theirs that Kakeru has a crush on. Join the brothers in their journey to the national and even international championships!
Additional Details: PV and official site can be found here.

Writer’s Commentary:
Crusader: I am not a fan of association football, but I wonder if there is going to be a brother’s war over the girl.
ExecutiveOtaku: Sports. Pass. (Sounds like there’s the potential for drama, but if I’m going to try a sports series for the romantic drama then I’ll go with Cross Game…if I can ever manage to not be bored by the sports aspect.)
Hana: Not a footie fan, so not keen on watching an anime about it either. Saying that, if the potential dorama surrounding those brothers and person no. 3 in the possible love triangle is anything worth shipping over, then I might be persuaded to revise my prejudices. On the other hand, meh sounding sports comedy is probably just that.
Chronolynx: Not really into sports. Maybe if there’s fanservice.
ReverseVampire: Sorry. Soccer’s not my thing. And I find American Football even daunting.
JohnnyYandere: Looks like MoshiDora with soccer and a love triangle. So that’s only the love triangle aspect to keep me interested. I’ll watch episode 4 or so to see if I’m missing anything.

    Zero no Tsukaima F:
Sigh, I watched the first 3 seasons (Hey, it was way back when I first started anime, don’t hate me!) and since Lord Commander Crusader hates quitters, I am now going to have to watch season 4. I will do my best to not die.

    Knight in the Area:
I have read a few of the manga chapters and even though I hate soccer, I really liked some of the manga. The first couple of chapters (1-10-ish) had some very emotional scenes, and it was less about soccer and more about the relationship between the two brothers.
So, with that said, I think you should give this anime the 5? episode test.

    Bodacious Space Pirates:
Female Pirates in Space…..the studio is going to have to work hard to make this kind of concept suck.

    Danshi Koukousei Nichijou:
I am looking forward to this. The PV’s were great, and it has Nichijou in the title, it has to be good.

Anything with four or more girls in the cover > especially if high schoolers > pass (except bakemonogatari related stuff)

Anything with guys more than girls > watch. Just because it’s obvious they’re not trying to cater to the usual demographic (male otaku)

About BRS, what really annoys me about that new anime is that everyone looks different, and that wouldn’t be a bad thing if they hadn’t milked the OVA like crazy. There are four characters in the OVA, two of which we barely see anything about, and they got all these merchandise and figures going on for them. Now everyone looks either slightly or very different (Yomi as just as well a completely different person) And what, are they gonna abandon the first OVA? While it wasn’t out of this world, I actually grew attached to the characters and would’ve liked to see a continuation. Maybe I’m missing some news and they will?

Recorder to Randoseru sounds CREEPY. I thought a bishie and a loli, maybe it’s an oniichan-imouto show but NO, they made it sound so damn creepy. Don’t get me wrong I’m a huge pervert, but for some reason this one is rubbing me the wrong way.

I don’t know about “Another”… the moment I read “emo girl wearing an eyepatch” made me not want to take this show seriously. In anime, eyepatches are usually used for either 1.badassery 2.emo-ness and either choice is undoubtedly a fanservice tactic, which can be awesome or cheap depending on the circumstances. Here, it kinda sounds cheap. A lot. A horror show woooo~ look it was a mysterious girl wearing an eyepatch she must be related to the mystery wooooo~! …I just don’t know.

Hell, the one I’m looking forward to the most is PoyoPoyo, because cats, people.

LOL – I always get a kick out of this segment of THAT. Anyway, these are the things I’m definitely planning to check out…

Muuretsu Pirates/Bodacious Space Pirates – it’s been said by others, but I’ll say it also, this will either be really good, OR really bad. Yes, it’s got that cliche formula (your average high school student), but once you get past that it’s pirates in spaceships, so I’m going to check it out.

Nisemonogatari – I really enjoyed Bakemonogatari (I’ll be the first to admit I’m missing a few screws), so I’m watching.

    Another – looks interesting.

Inu x Boku SS – this might be worth a laugh.

Zero no Tsukaima F – (sigh) I liked the FIRST season…now, like reiseng, to avoid having Crusader call me a quitter I have to watch this…

The only things I’m going to watch this season are Prince of Tennis and Area no Kishi. I don’t even like soccer, but the story is really good for a sports manga/anime, and the characters are likable. And. Female characters I can actually stand who have a purpose other than flashing their boobs and panties in each and every scene. There’s NO moe fanservice and that makes me very, very happy. (Seriously prefer casts with more male than female characters any day.)
