Mirai Nikki 13: “It was a trap all along.”

Because Yukiteru’s bare skin hasn’t been getting the attention it deserves (´ー`)y-~~

DEUS SMASH

I never knew that Deus was this large. It’s inconsequential to the plot, sure, but holy crap Deus is huuuuge.

Also I have greatly underestimated Murmur.

I used to think of her as poorly designed fanservice. She’s a loli but without the loli vibe. And those revealing clothes never quite evoke the thought of sexuality, but are merely asymptomatic, curving right through the regions of awkwardness and fashion disaster. And her personality + verbal tic grate against each other, each better off on its own.

Then I realized that Murmur is simply a superior, meta-level troll.

She’s trolling Deus, the Diary-Holders, and the viewers. I’d love her if I didn’t want to put my fist through her throat (that is not a sexual act in case you were wondering).

Even His Royal Wakamoto-ness cannot match such a foe on equal footing.

(For that he’ll need his Azumanga Daioh Neko Oyaji form.)

First thought: Akise is a pimp.

Second thought: Silly Akise, Hinata prefers Yukiteru and Mao is Yandere for Hinata.

Then I realizes that Akise is smarter than that and he’s probably got some ulterior motive.

Still, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a little fanservice while you’re on the job, yes?

Although I still think Hinata is less ero and more kawaii. My idiosyncratic choice of screencaps probably doesn’t help.

On the other hand, Mao does give off a distinct Kotobuki Tsumugi vibe. Ero and kawaii.

Just more proof that Yanderes provide the best fanservice. More Mao in the future episodes please.

More along the lines of “Oh, hell yes,” wouldn’t you say?

I can’t help but wonder how K-On! would have turned out if Tsumugi was as Yandere as Mao. But I’m sure those hypothetical scenarios have been explored in many, many doujinshi.

Such self-restraint from Mao. Then again for all I know, the anime adaptation may hold back where the manga cuts loose. A man can dream of Hinata/Mao sweetness.

(Go compare the Sekai-Ichi anime and manga. Filthy, filthy stuff. I was appalled, but I just couldn’t look away~)

Nishijima, you should just be happy with Minene and be done with this stuff. Who needs promotions when your wife’s a hot terrorist babe?

Although I suppose Akise just is that persuasive. And has a death wish. Or bends that way for Yukiteru and has a death wish.

Maybe you should have gotten second thoughts before the pickaxes started swinging out of elevators.

Or perhaps, you know, not have put other people in danger brought more hostages for Yuno to capture and mess with.

At the very least, you could have brought only Kousaka, or sent the bugger in first.

You had one task, Kousaka. Akise didn’t ask you to hold off the Third Imperial Heavy Armor, or go up against Syndic Mitth’raw’nuruodo’s Household Phalanx, or the New Sith Empire (pardon the resurgence of my buried Star Wars fanboyism).

All he asked you to do was to keep a door open. And you couldn’t even do that.

I hope Kousaka’s plot armour wears off soon. And that he dies in a suitably offscreen, ignominious manner.

Yuno’s turning into quite the Shakespeare aficionado. Nothing like a little skull action to bring out everyone’s inner ham.

Why yes, I thought you’d have realized it at the pickaxe. Or at the elevator that stopped working. Or at the fake text messages.

Or at the moment you deluded yourself into thinking that you could face Gasai Yuno in single combat and survive with at least 2 limbs still functional, much less win.

Seriously Akise, I thought better of you. Idiot ball notwithstanding, this episode really didn’t do you any favours.

So much for being a detective. Even Kurusu, bless his moronic heart, would have handled this situation way better.

Nice little parallels here. It wouldn’t surprise me if Yukiteru’s drugged out of his mind. I’d worry about Yuno inflicting permanent damage on Yukiteru but:

1) I don’t actually care about Yukiteru (not beyond the need for plot advancement at any rate)
2) I don’t think Yuno actually cares about grievous bodily harm and/or death (not if she’s the one inflicting it)
2a) I think Yuno might actually prefer grievous bodily harm and/or death

Could it be? Could it be that the fated Union of 28th July will occur while Yukiteru is stoned out beyond consciousness? Yet another delicious slice of ironic pie (for our beloved male protagonist, that is). All the Yuno fanservice with none of the Yukiteru grief.

I so cannot wait for that episode. Don’t let me down now, Asread.

Just a little Akise to balance all the past Yuno art I’ve been posting. Yuno really cleans up nicely, doesn’t she?

Oh MurMur is an excellent troll. She also gave ideas to a certain someone which led to more awesome trolling. :D

Then again I think everyone becomes badass in this series anyways. xD

He does things too later on. But he’s the token Butt Monkey of the series anyways. xP

^That is terrifically hilarious. The other thing is that there will probably be some awkward silence between Yukitera and her parents. They don’t really seem like the chatty type.

Hey hey, Yuno’s a well-brought up young lady, she knows she ought to have a chaperone or two around =)

I’m surprised you didn’t comment on this, but when Yuno offers Yukiteru a drink on their way to “watch the stars,” I immediately guessed that the drink was drugged. Come on, this is Yuno we’re talking about. I was disappointed yet greatly amused that Yukiteru, this late in the game, has still yet to understand/anticipate (and appreciate lol) the full levels of yandere that is Yuno. May his demise be a lesson to all of the first step to avoid date rape – don’t take the drink.

    • Posted January 13, 2012 at 8:56 pm | Permalink

Butbutbut how can you build a loving relationship based on distrust and paranoia? My Yuno can’t possibly be this Yandere!

Just kidding. Truth is, I really did think that they were going to go ‘see the stars’ or whatever. I thought the intense emphasis on Yuno buying a drink was just a red herring, another depiction of Yukiteru being overly suspicious, and that they’d actually spend a romantic outing together.

Man am I a sucker for romance or what.

I know what you mean. It seems like strange timing from Yuno. Why kidnap and imprison him right after he’s confessed his love? Even for someone as yandere as Yuno it seems pretty pointless.

It makes for extremely high entertainment value. XD I’m enjoying Yuno character to the fullest because of her unpredictability. Every time Yukiteru (and the viewers for that matter) thinks she’s a normal girl, and maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if they got together, YANDERE YUNO STRIKES.

Mirai Nikki is an anime that refuses to be a romance. They had that one “fake wedding episode” to make us think this anime could have a sweet happy ending. Then they took those wedding pictures and lovingly posted a bunch of them around the drugged/chained up Yukiteru. Everything’s being twisted. Mirai Nikki’s trolling us big time guys.

“It was a trap all along.”

    >Why yes, I thought you’d have realized it at the pickaxe. Or at the elevator that stopped working. Or at the fake text messages.

I think he was referring to, specifically, the text from Hinata being a trap.
This was a great read as always, and this was definitely one of my favorite episodes. They always end it when I really want to know what is about to happen.

    • Posted January 13, 2012 at 9:04 pm | Permalink

I thrive on the interpretation of quotes taken out of context ;)

It’s debatable. No doubt Akise knew that the text was a trap, if not he wouldn’t have started worrying about Hinata. I think his final statement was just a means of expressing his resignation/surrender – that he thought that he could triumph despite Yuno being prepared for any intruders, and he acknowledges his own defeat.

Or he could be putting on a show for Yuno. I certainly hope so, because I never thought Akise could be so incompetent ( ´_ゝ`)

A few observations to share with you, maybe you already picked up on these.

    1. The couple departed on the road trip on June 19 (end of episode 12), and Yuno bought a soda for Yuki that evening. The scene faded out. It immediately cut to the hotspring fanservice, again with sunset as the background. All fine and dandy, except the next scene was a flashback of Akise inviting the girls with a time stamp: June 28.

    2. Murmur has been a massive troll like you said. Not a spoiler but if we look up demonology, Murmur is an Earl of Hell, one of the 72 demons listed in the Lesser Key of Solomon. The name was definitely not chosen randomly.

    3. Exactly one month to go before the Happy End (July 28).

    • Posted January 14, 2012 at 12:56 am | Permalink

Actually no, I didn’t pick up on those. I’m quite the lazy viewer, actually. (Or maybe not, I tend to go frame-by-frame whenever there are interesting background events.) But I have faith that Yuno will ensure that Happy End, regardless of the timeframe.

I do think that the name “Murmur” was chosen somewhat at random. Why choose a demon of philosophy when you could choose Ose, demon of insanity or Andras, demon of discord?

Alternatively Esuno Sakae just flipped through the Ars Goetia and picked the cutest sounding name ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌

I’d go with the cutest sounding name, more deceiving this way, especially if you mix with Engrish it becomes Muru-Muru

I’m going to go on the fanservice on this episode; Hinata is definitely developing at an early age. I can’t wait to see her when she’s 18…. hopefully she’s alive by then (which I’m betting she will be because that will be such a waste if she died).
Also, Hinata knowingly how Mao is towards her still keeps Mao around and from the look of it they’re best friends so I’m going to take the time out and allow my imagination go wild as to wonder what the two do behind the scenes. All are care to join… *sigh*
Murmur is indeed one of my favorite characters in this show and I believe anyone would have to agree that she is one of the cutest demons you’ve ever seen (I absolutely love her)… and she’s a lot more devious than she put on until now. I blame the cuteness.
As for the plot- LOVED it!!! Can’t wait for the next episod.
