Mirai Nikki 14: “Go to hell.”

My heart! If I were there on the spot, I would have embraced Yuno in an attempt to comfort her.

An attempt, because that’s all it would be – even emotionally traumatized, I’m sure Yuno is still swift and efficient enough to stab me in the heart before I’d actually touch her. As would be expected from Yuno-ojousama.

Oh come on Yukiteru, there are worse ways to die.

Sure, you may never see your mother and friends again, or watch your favourite television programmes, or see any part of the outside world ever again, but you get to enjoy the sight of Yuno in her underwear as she prepares your favourite meals and takes care of your every physical need.

One wonders how you ever found yourself in this situation otherwise, Akise.

The expressions on their faces say everything that needs to be said.

I couldn’t care less about Kousaka, of course; but Mao is probably despondent at the thought of never getting her Hinata perfect ending. It must be sheer grief that keeps her immobile – otherwise she’d probably have beaten Akise to death with his own femur by now.

OMG AKISE EXECUTE THE PLAN NOW NOW NOW

One more second and I’d be too scarred to continue watching Mirai Nikki.

I’ve beheld many strange and awful wonders on the internets, and I’ve definitely been desensitized to the sight of certain things, but I have no desire to Yukiteru fanservice of this sort. Or of any sort.

Seriously, I can’t even enjoy Mirai Nikki Rule 34 because Yuno Rule 34 material is always bound to be defiled by Yukiteru. I despise him that much.

Facial expression level: Minene

Also I’m shocked that Yuno never got around to filling the massive hole. Really, Yuno. That’s the sort of thing that arouses interest on Google Earth.

I assume that by ‘cuts’, Akise is referring to the careful separation of the skulls from the spines.

But more importantly, the third corpse! Was it always in the room with Yuno’s parents? Or was it a more recent addition, and if so – where did Yuno learn such fine deboning techniques?

Of course the most pressing question of all is the identity of the third corpse. Since Yuno didn’t bring the skull along, I’m guessing that the third corpse wasn’t family. Sadly, there is simply too little information to go on, and yet I’d hate for the answer to be revealed without allowing some proper speculation first.

Tsk tsk Yuno-chan, don’t you kiss Yukiteru with that same mouth?

And yet, what a fine mouth it is~

I was considering the possibility that Yuno alters her memories for the same purpose Yagami Light does – so as to further her own goals by ensuring optimal behaviour by removing select mental blocks.

But this scene proves me wrong, and it is irksome. Because there’s no logical reason to eliminate her memories of the three, or at least Akise. All it does would be to handicap her future encounters with him because while he’s continually learning about her, she’s going to be effectively facing a new, unknown enemy.

If she tries to take him down and Akise counters with the exact same reversal as before, I’d facepalm. And facedesk. And futilely hope that Yuno wouldn’t alter her memories again.

So instead of killing him off, Kousaka is made into a Diary-holder.

I was so ready to blame Murmur for this act of meta-trolling. And even so, for all I know Murmur could have been responsible for 8th’s intervention.

Good thing that Yuno gives Kousaka all the respect he deserves.

Yuno-chan’s quite the troll herself. Impressive troll logic on display right here.

And yet I remember doing the exact same thing with my Sims. I can’t remember the details any more, but I abused some items/actions to ensure that my Sims’ perfect statuses were kept unchanged.

Too bad cryogenics haven’t been perfected yet – otherwise Yukiteru would have been spared all the prisoner stuff and been happily thawed out on July 28th. What, what am I saying? Yukiteru should be made to suffer.

Looks like he’s learnt something out of all this. That drink really taught Yukiteru not to underestimate Yuno.

Although it probably wouldn’t change a thing. Yukiteru might reject all consumables from Yuno from now on, but she’s probably just move on to syringes or knockout gas.

I can’t even begin to imagine where Yuno hid that crossbow, or how she retrieved it so quickly.

Dammit Yuno this is not the time to make Skyrim references.

Most impressive. Yuno managed to deduce and manipulate the ability of Kousaka’s Diary in under 5 minutes.

But I don’t think Kousaka’s Diary is as limited as Yuno makes it out to be. Its limits haven’t been defined yet, but it seems to me that you can predict failures just by looking for an absence of success.

Then again, since “absence of success” would probably define Kousaka’s life, his Diary isn’t going to be particularly useful either way.

Yukiteru really needs to work on his slapping technique. From this screencap alone you can’t even tell that he slapped Yuno.

Yuno, nobody ever got anything done by making themselves look pitiful. That crap only works in badly written vampire romance literature (all vampire romance literature is badly written).

Where has my Yuno gone? Where’s the streetwise Yandere to fight the rising odds?

That’s cold. Yuno was only acting in your best interests, you jerk!

… although objectively speaking, it is rather justified. On the bright side, maybe Yukiteru’ll become more ruthless from now on.

8th defies comprehension.

No, really. If the average anime character is supposed to be a stylized approximation of the human body, then how the hell am I supposed to interpret 8th’s massive cranium? Or the rest of her Deep One-esque body?

Also she looks like she could be Murmur’s biological mother. There is more than a hint of a possible genetic resemblance.

Anyway, I’m assuming that 8th’s Diary ability is the empowering of others’ cell phones into Future Diaries. Although it doesn’t seem to turn the sub-Diary-holders into loyal followers, and I’m guessing that the sub-Diary’s abilities are chosen at random.

I wonder what information is displayed on 8th’s Diary though. It seems unfair to Tsubaki if 8th gets the total input of her followers as well, since that input will be accurate information from sub-Diaries. Or so I think. Again, too little information to speculate here.

So it turns out that these preposterously good looking potential models are the Diary-holders hunting Yukiteru.

Who sports this sort of fashion in Japan? And why are these ridiculously attractive people loyal to 8th to the extent that they’ll kill for her? Doesn’t that guy feel cold with the top open and the top down speeding along in Japan’s low-temperature evenings?

More questions than answers brought up in this episode.

Yes, that’s the Yuno-chan I know! No tears, no collapsing on the floor in a sobbing wreck. Just cold, lethal efficiency.

Next episode prediction: Yuno kills many people. Good times~

Solid resolution, and I’m somewhat satisfied with the fact that Akise Aru didn’t solve the trap like some generic Gary Stu character.

I expect Kousaka’s assistant Future Diary to be explained in subsequent episodes, probably like you said, as some spawn of Eight the Pillsbury Doughgirl.

I’m glad they stepped up the adaptation pace (from a single chapter in episode 13 to two in episode 14), but that leaves us with 33 chapters left for 12 episodes to finish.

    Ay caramba.

I suppose, but Akise’s quite the bad detective if he wasn’t able to spot the ventilation shaft grating on his own, yes?

“8th the Pillsbury Doughgirl” is amazing. I wish I’d thought of that (*´Д`)

I think it’s due to the adaptation from the manga. Originally, Kousaka got a boost from the others to jump over the wall and break through the window to where Yuno and Yukiteru were.

The anime adaptation kept Kousaka as the Future Diary Apprentice, but left Akise in the exact same position, and worse for the wear for not noticing the vent. Perhaps he did when he predicted the time they had before the room flooded with gas by inferring from the dimensions of the room and?

Don’t get your hopes up for Yukiteru. EVER.

“I can’t even begin to imagine where Yuno hid that crossbow, or how she retrieved it so quickly.”

I can answer that. As Yuno was throwing the key to Kousaka, Yuki noticed a bag at the end of the room, and tried to warn Kousaka, but couldn’t. As Kousaka was distracted, Yuno retrieved that bag and got the crossbow from it.

I really liked Yuno’s plan to allow Kousaka to save Yuki, just so it appears on his diary and he gets tricked into thinking he won. Too bad she threw the key just a little too close to Hinata.

8th is definitely giving people “apprentice” status to help in finding actual future diary holders. Using Kousaka’s diary, she found the two diary holders near him (Yuki and Yuno). So she somehow has the information that apprentice diaries see. My question is how did she know Kousaka in the first place?

I’m definitely looking forward to the fight between Yuno and the three apprentices.

You’re right – there is a shot of the bag next to Yuno after she retrieves the crossbow, although one wonders why she’d return to Yukiteru rather than just level the crossbow from across the console.

I’m surprised Yuno displayed authentic keys at all. Knowing Kousaka, he would have struggled with a fake key for at least 5 minutes before realizing that Yuno had conned him. And it would have been just as damning to see Yukiteru trying to break free with a fake key.

Assuming that there are no Diary shenanigans involved, 8th must have been investigating Yukiteru and Yuno quite thoroughly so as to obtain Kousaka’s identity. But then why would she make Kousaka a Diary-holder and not Akise? I suppose Akise has the potential to be a greater threat.

I like that final shot of Yuno. It’s very old-school Schwarzenegger, with the upturned jacket collar and the bag that’s filled with all manner of fantastic implements of death. Those 3 runway models don’t stand a chance.

Let’s just assume that Akise wanted to play an awesome detective first and try to make Yuno reveal who that third corpse belongs to, and if Kousaka didn’t decide to panic that would have been his next move. After all, the diary only showed a future that would have happened, and could have happened even without its prior input. So it was all according to plan.

But just to make it more ridiculous, in manga the room was filling not with gas, but with cement. And Kousaka did not climb into the ventilation shaft, but jumped over the wall from the three-person pyramid. Yeah…
And, oh, that peeing scene did happen in the manga. Thankfully, no fancervise was involved.

As for explanation of why Kousaka did gain the powers – well, the blog where he posted his entries is hosted on 8th server. He made a certain amount of posts, thus, his status was upgraded – a fairly automatic process that could have happened for everyone. The reason Akise, for example, did not gain the same abilities is because his diary is handwritten in that black notebook we’ve seen last episode.

Also, out of curiosity, do you watch those MurMur specials after the ending credits?

      SPOILERS WHAT HAVE YOU DONE

But yes I do watch those Murmur specials, but I don’t like to cover them because the humour is often forced and they’re probably not canon.

Except for Twelfth’s, because Twelfth is faaabulous.

Yukiteru’s (or I should say impressionable viewers’) relationship with Yuno has always been a rollercoaster ride and it will continue until the end. A quick summary so far:

    ep 1: creepy stalker! (down)
ep 2: crazy but devoted girl who would risk her own life to protect me! (up)
ep 3: lovely girl (up), but literally had skeletons in her closet!!!!, straight out of a horror movie with the mail-slot “good night”… (nose-dive)
ep 4: manipulative, evil, ruthless, but should I trust her or the seemingly innocent 6th?
ep 5: Yuno has been right, like always… (up)
ep 6: Still a stalker, but cute… (up for Yuki, down for viewers because of the murderous intend for Yuki’s mom just below the surface)
ep 7: saved me yet again! (up)
ep 8: Yuno has been right again, should have trusted her (up)
ep 9: Yanderes are possessive… forced me to tell a “fatal” lie to protect my friends (down)
ep 10: cute in a wedding dress, let me forget about what’s behind the door (up), then I saw that huge hole Yuno dug, both physically and metaphorically (down)
ep 11 – 12: almost sacrificed herself to save me again… I LOVE YUNO (way up).
ep 13 – 14: this is what you get with a yandere… GO TO HELL! (nose dive to negative territory)

For people cursing Yuno now, this ride is far from over.

… you’re making me think that Yuno deliberately lowers Yukiteru’s opinion of her just so that the contrast effect will be greater when she saves him again ಠ_ಠ

I think Yukiteru will shortly be presented with the classic dilemma from episode 4 again: choose Yuno and live, choose an alternative and die.

Actually a lot of the theories you’re throwing out are…really good.

    :D

Do you have a diary too? xD

    • Posted January 18, 2012 at 7:56 am | Permalink

Why yes! It’s called the Mirai Nikki original source material manga Diary ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌

Just kidding. I haven’t spoilered myself yet, although some plot points are pretty much guaranteed, like Yuno/Yukiteru being the sole survivor, and they’d definitely be the final two so as to have that delicious lovers’ quarrel over who gets to resurrect whom (゚∀゚)
