There is justice in this world! I don’t know if AIC planned SS+ from the beginning and just wanted to trolls us, or if the continuation was decided upon later, but I’m glad to see such a glaring wrong righted. I could always do with more, but Rihoko’s belated BEST END was very sweet and had what might be the cutest confession scene in Amagami SS. But that’s the ending, and what’s so cute about it is in the details and the process.
You better check yo self before you wreck yo self, cuz she bad for your health, Hibiki come real stealth.
Stop interrupting and let mommy and daddy talk, Miya.
Rihoko really went all out with that full meal there.
So after a brief ending to rapist-kun’s efforts things move back to the Tachibana residence. The in-show time is a short amount of time, but all the development comes together nicely during it. Dinner is followed by Miya being a bro and inviting Rihoko to stay overnight after it starts raining, so naturally a bath follows. Rihoko has time to herself to think while she’s in the bath, and Junichi is off in his room looking at an old photo album full of pictures from times he and Rihoko shared. I think this is key; it’s really nice to see them both moving towards each other in their own minds instead of one pursuing the other. It’s much cuter to see them come to a mutual realization about how their past links them and what that means for them today. Junichi seems to have become a bit more mature now that he’s actually taking time to think things over too. There’s not a lot of individual actions going on since this is one night, but it’s the most important part. I guess it’s sort of a situation where not a lot happens, but everything happens.
Meanwhile down by the water…status: yuri shipped.
There is one awkwardness fears. In their tongue she is
Dovakiin Miya-chan, shipping-born! NI SHI SHI!
Looks like someone visited Nara for their school trip.
All of these signs have lead Junichi to this point, thankfully he is smart enough to see his destiny before him.
Yet more cute before she retires to Miya’s room.
Miya lets Rihoko stay in her room for the night but thankfully it’s not a quiet night. Miya gets up and sleepwalks to Junichi’s room where she almost starts peeing on the floor like an angry cat or something (WTF?) before Junichi wakes her up and guides her to the correct room. It’s…odd but it serves to wake Junichi up. He can’t sleep and heads downstairs, and Junichi isn’t the only one that can’t fall asleep. Rihoko hasn’t been able to get any rest thinking about when and how to let Junichi know how she feels. Eventually she comes downstairs too and joins Junichi in sitting by the porch. It’s so cute that even he’s that same combination of nervous and nostalgic in thinking about all the times they’ve shared together over the years. So much DDDDDDAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW from the both of them. This is how childhood friend couples should be. They set off some fireworks together too, which brings up even more memories. The gods even intervene to employ some ANIME PHYSICS that lets them nearly fall and land on top of each other for some added blushing. The bond is sealed, the only thing left is for someone to break the ice…and surprisingly it’s Junichi. He’s the first to say that he wishes that they could always be together like this and it’s enough to bring them both to say, simultaneously, that they love each other. They kiss together in the romantic moonlight and all is as it should be. I would have liked to see more of them as a couple, but it was such a nice moment of confession that I can’t be unhappy about it.
I loved the setting for this scene. Looking out into the yard, with just the moon for light, and the feeling of a night after the rain stops. So romantic.
Successful osananajimi tactics in practice: always emphasize the shared past. Emphasize it so much that your love interest will spontaneously bring up the connection.
Awww, so cute. And it’s so cute seeing them together back then.
Failure was not an option.
Final Thoughts: – Rihoko not getting her good end the first time around was tough to live with, but I think it’s pretty much been made up for with this. Tsukasa is still my favorite Amagami girl, but Rihoko definitely had the best confession scene. I don’t think there’s been a sweeter moment in the series, which is fitting for Rihoko. She just seems the cutest in her affection, the most earnest and loving. Not to say that the other girls were less sincere in their arcs, but Rihoko just has that romantic DDDDDAAAAAWWWWW factor to her relationship with Junichi. So sweet!
- Part of me will always want more, so I wish that we’d have had this ending in Amagami SS so I could see them together as a couple after a timeskip. But that said, I am very happy with how things went so I should probably just remain satisfied with this ending.
- Next week it’s on to the Ai afterstory. We’ll…see how this goes. Hopefully it will follow the pattern of the Tsukasa and Rihoko ones and be a vast improvement over the first Ai arc. There’s definitely something that could have been done with her character, so let’s hope that whoever the writers were for the first arc have been laughed out of AIC.
Come On Man About Bloody Time
At long last this day has come, Zeus be Praised! It took Junichi over a decade to realize that Rihoko was his one and only, but at least he didn’t try that “I just fell in love after seeing your boobies” line that Nanpa-kun was using. Thank goodness Nanpa-kun is as craven as he is stupid and not only did he not dare make a move against Rihoko, he even tried to intervene in Haruka and Hibiki’s yuri bliss! I felt no shortage of OUTRAGE that he dared to come between them and think himself worthy. If only Zeus could spare a lightning bolt to smite him for his insolence. Still FOREVER ALONE is a just and right fate for someone so miserable. I really liked how Rihoko and Junichi took a trip down memory lane it was absolutely adorable and words can’t convey how cuteness just oozed off the screen. This will go down as one of the all-time great osanajimi victories which are all the more precious considering how rare this kind of ship wins out. If nothing else I finally have closure for this I feel less angry now, but it’s a bit bittersweet because Rihoko should not have been screwed in the first place.
Also I hope Miya Miya made the most of that one night of just Miya and Rihoko, even if it did not go on forever and ever I am sure that their midnight tea party went well. Also Miya Miya nets best end with a dayto with Sae and Ai at the theme park, maybe someday we can have a series that centers on Miya Miya. Still Congratulations to Rihoko and slightly unworthy Junichi, yes she’s marrying beneath her but all women do when they don’t marry hotblooded GAR super robot pilots.
