I have the misfortune of informing everyone who reads this post that Hana will not be with us for a while. If you have not heard through her facebook or twitter account her home was burgled and she needs to get a new laptop as well as re-establish her internet connection. Thankfully no one was home at the time of the robbery and while property was lost every one was safe including the newest member of Hana’s family. So feel free to wish her well and congratulate her on becoming an Aunty. In the meantime it falls to me to try and carry on without her.
Chihaya finally gets the hard news that she is relying solely on speed and not improving in all the other areas of karuta. It is as Dr. Haruda said she can take 10 or so easily but it makes no difference if she can’t get the other 90. Kana-chan also rightly points out that because Chihaya is so fast she is taking risks and relying on luck too often to get the card, and when she is wrong it results in a penalty. So in essence Chihaya is playing like the Oakland Raiders, yes she is fast but her plays are simple and she is committing too many penalties that put her in a hole that she doesn’t always get out of. While I had Desk-kun written off as a lost cause I am glad I was wrong as clearly he was dorky enough to go watch Moneyball and start using sabermetrics to patch the holes in his game. I am a baseball guy and I love this new turn of events that adds statistics to determine more specifically where Chihaya’s faults are. Kana-chan may have many fans but only one Chihaya and once again shares her love of poetry with her Lady. Chihaya might have a ways to go before she can really challenge Shinobu but in the meantime Kana-chan should not hesitate to give Chihaya some refinement and learning to love those other poems is only going to help.
When it comes to the rat race to Class A I think Nishida has the edge because he has a greater sense of urgency and now that he caught Taichi using his money to sneak into Class A, Nishida will not be caught unawares. Fortunately for Nishida he has more friends than Taichi and can still draw upon more skilled opponents while Taichi may well have to run himself ragged shuttling between tournaments. Now that he is on the open market I am surprised he isn’t bank rolling more trips with Chihaya, I know he’s too craven to ask her out but he still could try and disguise them as club activities instead of rubbing it in everyone’s face that he is rich. Well whatever happens next I do know this, that Taichi will make less progress this year than Andy W. Hole will romancing a stone. I am excited about the injection of sabermetrics I just hope they use it and Nishida does all he can to get Desk-kun’s notes, even if he has to beat it out of him. Nishida is a better athlete since he’s winning foot races now he is no longer a fat body, but a lineman who can run in a pick 6.
So after being routed by Kana-chan and getting steam rolled last week by Nishida and Desk-kun, Taichi is back for some more disappointment. For all of you who insisted that Taichi had done the right thing by dumping his girlfriend or that she simply fell off the face of the earth, you were horribly mistaken. Long have I told you all that Taichi is coward and that cowardice doesn’t simply go away that bravery happens in the space of a day. This week Taichi gets dumped (because we all know that women do not get dumped, they dump you) and given how he responded he never really loved Ms. Ex-Girlfriend and was simply toying with her. So for the better part of a whole year and then some Taichi has been going behind her back trying to get into Chihaya’s pants. What can I say, once a cheater, always a cheater. If Taichi can go chasing a women behind Ms. Ex’s back what’s to stop Taichi from cheating on Chihaya? That’s right nothing because Taichi knows nothing of loyalty. So much for Taichi’s courage too, he lacks the balls to take his slap in the face like a man. It’s starting to border on sad that Taichi is this cowardly and slow to realize that he could have caught up with Arata with his money. Taichi is reduced to trying to imagine that his proximity to Chihaya equates to a relationship, but he could not be more wrong. Being the sorry bastard he is though, Taichi ascribes romantic meaning to every feel he can cop off of Chihaya when she sleeps and even then can’t stop himself from ruining the moment.
While I commend Taichi for finally realizing that he will never be a factor until he gets into Class A, it may already be too late as he is in a race against time. Taichi spent lord knows how much money in an effort to get past Nishida but while money can buy you plenty Nishida actually has friends who get him in tournaments and give him access to more karuta societies. At the end of the day Taichi has no one to blame except himself, he’s too cowardly to confess and Chihaya is closer to Arata and Shinobu than she is with him despite the fact that Shinobu and Arata are miles away and can’t see Chihaya every day. Had Taichi been serious about Chihaya he would not have dated someone else and could have tried to be with Chihaya because money is no object to him. He could have traveled once a week to see her and keep in touch, hell he could have written to her but again, no. Lack of effort will do this to you and you will reap what you sow. Zeus will not soon forget Taichi’s treachery and cowardice when it came to his last relationship so Taichi better start doing the right thing and beg for forgiveness. Taichi has to stop getting in his own way because that cruel little boy act isn’t going to work on Chihaya now or ever. Every time he is on the cusp of being a man and confessing he reverts back to insults and gets nowhere. It’s been 16 episodes and for some reason Taichi is still dithering in stating his affections.
The sooner we see more of Arata, Sudo, and Shinobu the better because the Taichi getting nowhere act is getting stale because at this rate it won’t be until episode 34 that Taichi starts and stumbles on a confession. It’s unfortunate that Ms. Ex didn’t assert herself and make a point to visit Taichi and attend club activities, at least that way we could have had some drama and put a real face on a woman scorned. Taichi better hope that this is the end of it as breaking up over a cell phone call leads to bad feelings and such feelings could lead his erstwhile lover to come back with a vengeance. Rich boy or not Taichi has few friends as it is and the last thing he needs is a real enemy considering Arata’s shadow is still kicking his ass.
