Rinne no Lagrange – 11: The Battle of Kamogawa

Sell that to Sazanka you'll make millions.

Kiss finally shows us what they are all about never mind that Tulligulio was a prince it seems that exile has not made him a better person, and now more than ever it seems that Moid is right to call them criminals. It’s one thing to want to destroy the voxes and quite another to fire on a town some nautical miles away from the primary target. Either the gunners for the Kiss Fleet can’t shoot straight or Kiss is just willing to kill anyone who will not take their side against La Garite. I think is it mostly because of the latter, though the aim of the average Kiss pilot is underwhelming at best. Kiss may suck but it seems that the De Metrio boys finally decided that being Villagiulio’s lackeys was a lame way to live. Instead they seem to be on the short list for joining Novumundus in the hopes of getting access to the elite Jersey Club. It was most fortuitous that they decided to tell their former crown prince to kiss their collective asses and saved the town despite failing to obliterate that errant Ovid that hurt Yoko.

It was a most action packed episode and not terribly bad given how capital ships aren’t useless and despite Kiss being a bunch of bastards at least know how to use combat air patrols. Muginami acquitted herself remarkably well. I expected her to have some issues with fighting Digigurio, but thankfully she didn’t back down and did her best to fight him. Saving Lan again was also a nice plus, I am much relieved to see that the power of Madoka’s love has saved Muginami’s heart. Muginami might never be the one to kill Suliguilio, but when that time comes I am sure Madoka or Lan would be able to do it. Worst case scenario Array kills the former prince his meido powers. While I was worried that Novumundus was putting all their eggs in the Voxes, I am glad that they invested in upgraded weapons and shield for Pharos and their escort ships. Madoak is should do all she can to rack up the kill count against Villaguilio’s lackeys, but it is good to see that the scrubs sailing the destroyers are able to chip in a few complimentary kills in the defense of Earth.

Lan seems to be the odd one out being the sharp shooter of the trio, but I guess Lan will perform admirably by keeping bogies off of Madoka and Muginami’s back. Madoka and Muginami are sharing close combat duties and while Muginami is free to go after elegant kills Madoka seems intent to use her own brand of combat and is more than capable of tossing opposing ovids into opposing ovids while getting a good bounce to hit two formations with one toss. I appreciate the spirit that Machiko and Yoko inspired at Kamogawa Girls School, but next time they might consider taking cover. Yoko may be awesome but she is not invincible and her injury seems to have pushed Madoka over the edge. With any luck the only thing this rain of flowers will do is render the Kiss ovids inoperable, and we can avoid any unseemly ocean of tang scene.

With the series winding down I expect the Rinne team to give us ample reason to tune in next season so I eagerly anticipate the eventual humiliation of Villagiulio. Sure he still has a fleet but his ovid forces are sure to be all but wiped out after he dared to fire on Kamogawa and hurt Yoko. Kirisu, Izo, and Array did do the right thing at the end and hopefully they will find it easy to work with Lan despite their initial misgivings. Yurikano would have wanted it that way. Hopefully the De Metrio trio will be able to add in some kills of their own. I wonder what dark powers Villagiulio used to sucker in so much cannon fodder, but at any rate I hope they all get wiped out for being witless lackeys. Villaguilio may throw around some pretty words but I guess when it comes to opposing Dizelmine and negotiations Villagiulio will not settle for anything less than his way. Dizelmine on the other hand seems able to at least engender cooperation and for now seems more than willing to leave Earth well enough alone after taking the Voxes. I guess this is why Dizelmine looks to be the final boss while the prince that was is miserable mid-boss.

Asteria may be right to fear the power of the Voxes, but even when Madoka got MAD it wasn’t that she had a black heart. As for how a rain of flowers can destroy worlds it seems that it is less about fire and brimstone than it is about destroying certain technologies namely ovid technology. Time will tell but there is still ample mystery left for the second season which if all goes well is but a short wait.

What sweet nothings is she whispering to you now?

What else have you not told us yet?

So much for not wanting to invade...

I guess Novumndus didn't have the where with all to make any form of orbital defense.

There are you just have a habit of tainting them, Yurikano, Lan, Muginami... the list goes on.

Lan is locked in...

Now if you could just find the perfect platform to use said weapons to back up the Jersey Club.

Fear not for Digiburio cares nothing for his pawns.

I don't know who you guys are but you must love Billabulio if you are willing to die for him or maybe you thought this was going to be easy...

Good to see Muginami and Lan grow closer.

So are you Villaguilio's 16th or 17th?

Well I won't feel bad when you get yours lady.

Poor Lan.

I am glad Muginami no longer calls him brother.

I am relieved that Muginami made the right choice.

At least Novumundus upgraded their ships.

Good to see that Novumundus can contribute a few kills to the defense of Earth.

Not that you care...

I thought as much.

I guess the former crown prince still has plenty of mercenary scum.

More like heart breaking...

So much for a bleeding heart, in then end it's always about what he wants...

While the former prince is failing, Kirius is at least making up for his initial stupidity.

I guess Array thought he wasn't allowed to BROFIST any more.

Hey if you lose you won't need a pay check...

Yeah it wasn't terrifying...

Yes believe in the power of YURI.

Well that's more than what most anime commanders do.

Thanks, good to know the ruler of Earth is capable of reversing a decision.

The world just seems more right when Madoka is piloting.

IT'S MARU TIME.

Make them pay Lan, make them pay.

He never respected Yurikano much either.

These fools just don't know when to get off Madoka's planet.

Hey you can always take Array and Izo's ovids or you can steal from Kiss.

Madoka is going to turn Gijiajulio's forces to scrap.

I guess the Jersey Club has a history of liking big explosives.

Madoka is a very popular girl.

They all believe.

I see some one hardly cares about leveling a whole town for her former prince...

I hope you remember how lowly your former nii-chan is.

DAMN YOU KISS!

At least in the end you all realized that being Fullaguiulio's lackey was a miserable way to live.

So you say...

Madoka with the toss...

...and she got the bounce.

I wonder if Billibulio is going to regret losing such a promising pilot. He'll be dreadfully short of them soon...

Her spirit is demands Dillidulio's head on a pike.

Villagiulio planned that...

I just wonder how Midori does that...

Well Kiss is about to find out how they will fear Madoka when she is MAD.

Well Moid got what he wanted...

LAN DO SOMETHING!

Well I think we know how the Flower of Rinne brought civilization to it's knees.

Asteria will be most Asterical when she sees flowers raining down.

I believe the Rin-ne will have “hax” healing powers. Though a hit there isn’t necessarily fatal, but we also don’t know exactly what happened. Also, isn’t that Array’s Ovid that was there and got knocked over? He’s going to pay for that one.

Kiss obviously has some plan, or this series just got really stupid. They want to destroy the Voxes, but they must need them activated or something. There has to be a logical reason for not just killing the pilots outright. I get the feeling that they’re attempting to extract their power, rather than actually destroy them directly. It would also explain what they seek to gain from going for them.

I did rather like this episode. The series is getting into a flow & tone, and this fits really nicely. It just took a little too long to find that spot. And the Jersey Club having a supply of major fireworks isn’t surprising, haha.

The story Youko told about the Vox legend is kind of explained with Madoka going Rin-ne on everyone. Obviously, the Voxes are almostly unbeatable defensively, which renders attacks against them mute. That’s pretty much an ultimate weapon, at that point. I wonder if they’ll explain why more weren’t made.

Imagine one of those vox pilots defect and fight against you.

“Sell that to Sazanka you’ll make millions.”

Mind you Megumi Nakajima not only sang the OP but she is also the voice of Grania. The brown skinned woman second in command of Kiss. There is your Sazanka.

I finally understand the different views of the precursor culture.

The Vox is Earth’s defense system meant to defend it. The ancestor of the Polyhedron did not colonize their worlds after a disaster. Their worlds were already colonized to begin with.

Their ancestors were stupid enough to try conquer Earth and got their butts handed to them by the Voxes.

Survivors accounts and propaganda became superstition. That is why for 20,000 years Earth was left alone.

So… the voxes are protectors of the planet built by… who?

Earth’s precursor culture of course. La Girite, De Metrio and the Polyhedon has this mixed up history that their ancestors left Earth and migrated due to the Voxes but that doesn’t make sense unless their ancestors were already a fully space faring culture.

I wouldn’t dismiss something similar to Turn A Gundam’s Black History having the colonies revert to the dark ages. Losing historical knowledge along the way.

Yoko’s findings are more concrete than the superstition Polyhedron’s people is working on. The people of Earth did not fear the Voxes but revere them.

What Lan said about that period is that there was a great war and they left Earth because of the Voxes. But as said there are missing historical records on Polyhedron’s part.

The Voxes didn’t destroy civilization forcing a mass exodus the war did that. What the Voxes did was kicking out the colonist invaders.

Could be they were colonies of Earth that wanted to gang back up on Earth, and lost badly.

The advanced society was destroyed by the actual Ice Age roughly 15k years ago, which mostly washed away its existence from time. The Polyhedron just didn’t feel like bothering with Earth in the mean time. Or the trouble to find where the Voxes were wasn’t worth it. But, something obviously has changed. Hopefully, they’ll explain in the next course. Only 1 episode left in this section of the series.

Maybe, though Le Garite seems to not fear the myth.
