Tari Tari – 03: No Money

Thus did Taichi’s nee-sama discover her ability to channel a Shining Finger attack.

I guess Wakana is going to take a long while before she fully embraces her new friends, but quite why she is so apprehensive is a mystery though hopefully it will end soon. In the mean time she seems to have gained a new stalker who is likely an old friend of her mother’s. Unfortunately Wakana is not adept at foreign languages and mistakes the poor European for an Anglo-Saxon and takes him for a beggar. While I am sure that Wakana is a smart girl, I rather enjoyed her attempts to fend off the Euro with cries of “No Money.” On the Konatsu front it seems that with recital over with her club has largely gone back to student life and she is now in need of hardened veterans to fill her club roster. Thankfully she already has Sawa and she did well to draft Wakana. Ta-kun also has his club of one status rescinded, and so begins Konatsu’s plan to start a hostile takeover of the badminton club.

Ta-kun was trying to inflate his own meager numbers by drafting Wein but sadly he gravely miscalculated and instead has ruined both Wein and his sister for marriage. I am unsure if I want to ship that one since Ta-kun’s onee-sama could do better but it is all entirely dependent on Wein proving himself worthy. Konatsu may be the smallest of the lot but she sure is craft from forcing Makoto into compliance via an open secret to artfully manipulating Taichi into a 3 vs. 1 match. In then end Konatsu has met most of her goals with Sawa and Wakana’s help. She got through the recital and started the Choir and Sometimes Badminton Club after the mass desertion. Luckily for Taichi while his intellect is limited Konatsu’s mercy is boundless and he will be allowed to compete assuming that he puts forth a respectable effort.

I guess the Vice Principal has something that can pass for a heart; certainly she seems to have a certain affection for Wakana’s mother and isn’t giving Konatsu a hard time purely out of spite. If we are lucky we will get bits and pieces of Wakana’s mother and how she came into such high regard. If not then I expect an info dump at some point, but hopefully PA Works will bring enough game to avoid the need for it. Summer is also in full swing and from the look of things the festival should be a hoot. Wakana seems rather intent of avoiding her friends over the break but she will have little choice but to conform soon enough. Sawa was enterprising as ever and got a job, Ta-kun is still doing his best to aim for a world championship, Wein is attending summer classes to gawk and megane Wakana, and Konatsu is hanging around Sawa.

Konatsu may have stage fright but it seems that she has made significant strides towards performing in public. I also like what Sawa and Konatsu did with their hair when they went to the beach the results were quite stunning. Wakana may be no money and a rather frosty friend, but she did stand up for all of them in challenging the Vice Principal for the right to have a club. I still want to know why Wakana seems to be somewhat of a shut in. I guess she just moved here recently but if Wein is fitting in so fast there is little reason for Wakana to want isolation. We may be in for a spat next week but hopefully it will blow over quickly. I am relieved to see that for now my SawaxKonatsu ship is not under threat from the likes of Wein and Ta-kun, with any luck Ta-kun and Wein can enjoy some bromance while my yuri ship makes it successfully to the open sea and to the port of lasting love.

It is also possible that the parents and siblings of the Choir and Sometimes Badminton Club will figure prominently, I hope that this is the case as having a healthy family situation is a rather refreshing change.

School Girl stole his bike…

Well that’s one way to attain power.

I like how Konatsu was already scheming.

Wrong room?

Well at least she didn’t flip out and open the door to ecchi series.

Try Hop, Step, Jump…

Good to see that Sawa isn’t afraid to work for a living.

I am all for a COSPLAY PARTY.

Evil Konatsu is EVIL.

Yes, you have already been claimed as a friend, it’s time you saw them in the same light.

Yes, Milady.

Firing ling, READY!

At least this Taichi does the effort plays…

I guess Taichi forgot to explain the rules…

Come on Wakana it’s time to move to first name basis.

The agony of defeat…

LOL Konatsu, you so mean.

So Prince of Badminton how goes your quest?

Yes, she did and HOW!

You have been assimilated…

Well your haircut already did that…along with your accident…

Too bad, Vanilla Ice already made out like a bandit by ripping off Queen. Word to your mother…

I guess cash is out of the question…

Have a little more confidence kid…

He’s a Zentradi producer…

Yes, to sing without a accompanying music is tough, just ask William Shatner…

Who says playing with your food is bad?

Come on Wakana embrace your new friends. Still good to see that KonatsuxSawa is still on track.

Also I like what Sawa and Konatsu did with their hair.

This was a fun episode! This show is turning up to be quite good. I just hope they keep the drama to a reasonable level.

I really liked the old men and their entrance at the end. It was sweet, very cute and fuzzy.

Despite having 3 girls and 2 boys, this show is surprisingly un-shippable (in my opinion). Really, the only pairing that works well is Sawa and Konatsu with a healthy side-dish of Wakana.

    I don’t money….

There really is no caption better than LOL for that.

    Thanks for the post!
And yes, their hair looks nice. :P

So long as the Sawa Yuri-ship endures I care little for the other ships. I don’t things are going to get too heavy given the bright colors and general tone of the series.

Wakana is clearly just fighting the yuri that is slowly overtaking her. There can be no escape.

Also, the vice principal pisses me off greatly. I don’t know if there is a backstory of some sort there or not, but there’s no reason anyone should behave that way. Especially towards kids that just wanna do something they have a passion for.

Well to be fair they are almost adults now so you have to lay down the hammer to remind them that their time as children is almost at an end.

Wakana should just embrace the yuri for it will PREVAIL in the end.

My bet is that Wakana’s mom was a famous singer/composer at one point. That would explain everyone’s expectations for her, her resistance to even demonstrate to those expectations, and the fact that some guy from Spain would even somewhat recognize her.

That high school has a pretty snappy anthem, as opposed to every other school anthem ever.

Time will tell but all the signs point to it. Hopefully once Wakana finds out she will not shy away from trying even if she faces lofty expectations.

This episode was seriously cracking me up! I don’t remember Hanasaku Iroha having this much ‘tude either. What was with that badminton slam?! And that hairdo on Kocho-Sensei…oh dear. Great stuff so far, thanks for blogging this :)

Thanks for reading, certainly it seems a bit more comedic than HanaIro. Hopefully that will be a good thing.

If I understand properly, that school has two divisions and two curriculums, and two uniforms: the standard one and the music-oriented one.

Wakana was attending the music division, as her uniform indicates (it’s different from the other four kids, but the same as the girls’ from the official school choir)

Something (mother’s death?) happened that made Wakana renounce music. That means that she will not be attending any music-related lessons, which make a large and essential part of her division’s curriculum. This explains both for her seeming isolation and for all those supplementary lessons:
-She is not attending school with her old friends any longer, and there may even be some bad blood there depending on how things went
-Since she can’t possibly complete the music curriculum any longer, her only hope of graduating is to complete the STANDARD division’s curriculum. She has a lot of lost ground to recover, and the school’s faculty have been kind enough to give her some help.

Of course, the principal (whatever his relationship to her mother was) still hopes to reconcile her with music, probably because she actually does have great talent (like her mother?). She may even be a prodigy, for all we know, and losing her for music would be a tragedy. That’s why he decided to support Konatsu’s choir club the moment he saw that Wakana was a member.
