Code Geass R2, Episode 10- When The Shen Hu Shines

cgmain.jpg
Gandalf! No!

While last week was a lulz episode, this week was definitely an action episode. It also had a bunch of cliffhangers at the end that were definitely not good for my heart. Then add a few more subtle hints on the truth of all things as well as a battle of minds and you have quite a thrilling episode.

Impressions:

cg01.jpg

Zangetsu? Sigh -_- Anyways, good to see some action after a break from it last week, the fight between Suzaku and Toudou was alright, if short. Unfortunately we seem to be back into the tech wars part of the series again, something that greatly disappoints me. More whining on that later when Xing Ke’s knightmare appears.

cg02.jpg

I think this girl is crying in nearly every shot we see of her. Poor Xing Ke couldn’t save her this time, and he got captured by the idiotic eunuchs who are quite predictably overconfident and get stomped all over by Zero. Any did anyone notice the panda on the side of the Black Knight’s truck? Yeah I thought that was funny as hell.

cg03.jpg

After Tamaki is made to look like an idiot we get another in the long list of subtle hints as to C.C.’s backstory. She is by far the most mysterious character in this show, as week by week we get more small hints about her, but it feels like we are rabbits nibbling on a massive watermelon. There’s something huge waiting for us eventually and I hope her backstory is a rewarding one to finally find out about in the end. I can’t remember the last character with such a tantalizing hidden backstory that didn’t seem overly cliché in the way they kept you in the dark throughout the first 90 percent of the show.

cg04.jpg

I was chuckling here, as Zero realizes that he has no power over those that don’t follow logic. Smartly he leaves it to Kaguya, who once again reveals her wisdom beyond her years, able to start to pull the loli empress more to their side and read her completely. I’ll reiterate that it’s great how she has become an essential part of the Order, bringing in her own unique skill set and leadership ability in addition to being so damn cute.

cg05.jpg

Kallensip. Ahem, enough of the possible /a/ memes, and wow Kallen is cute when she’s jealous. She wants to be Lelouch’s best lover/friend instead of C.C. Don’t worry too much Kallen, as we will see later Lelouch actually seems to care a great deal about you, although not really in a romantic way quite yet. Always the possibility in the future.

cg06.jpg

That is one ugly knightmare. And I’ll use this space to whine about the tech wars, which are one of the few parts of Geass I don’t like. Every few episodes we get some sort of new super mech that’s impossible to beat and just blows everyone away. Then everyone acts all surprised when they win. Sigh. I know it’s probably because they need to sell figures or whatever, but it’s really disappointing at times.

cg07.jpg

GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF MY WOMAN! RAGE. Er, ahem sorry I was just channeling my inner Lelouch. In all seriousness I mad raged when this happened, after a really lame fight with an equally lame explanation for why Xing Ke’s mech’s power level was really high they even let him capture her. Damn you Sunrise!

At first glance you’d think wow he had that reaction because she knows about Geass and his identity. But I don’t really think that was all, he reacted way too fast and with too much emotion for just that. I think he really is glad to have someone else that knows the truth whom he can confide in, as it would probably get kinda lonely otherwise. While I doubt it’s risen to a romantic level yet I think he’s grown fond of her in general, and wants to take her back to Ashford like he said last episode.

cg09.jpg

Alright, Diethard’s call for a retreat was pretty lame I’d have to say, and his reasoning pretty flawed. Abandoning one of the pillars of the entire organization would bring it down, because the mere fact of Zero throwing her away to escape would most likely damage morale. On the other side, the reasoning Zero gave was hardly convincing, the Indians hadn’t given really any significant evidence of that, and he just wanted to save her. I do like C.C.’s smile here, perhaps she is happy that despite all that has happened Lelouch does not have a dark heart and cares for some others at least.

cg10.jpg

Suzaku didn’t show any reaction to this, but it’s obvious to viewers that C.C. is hanging out with Lelouch in this picture. Suzaku has shown himself to be an idiot in the past that reacts emotionally to everything, so I’m not sure he’d be able to treat seeing that nonchalantly if he actually noticed that the girl there was C.C. Shouta Lelouch was kind of cute too, Anya like?

cg11.jpg

For a “just as planned” battle it was kind of underwhelming with the sides switching way too often. To be honest I’d prefer more real battle tactics that are explained a bit better rather than amorphous “Sigma Formations” and generic pincers. Maybe I’m just looking forward to Schneizel vs. Lelouch too much, and they seemed to just randomly promote Xing Ke’s tactical ability in this episode. It lacks the build up, bad blood, and general anticipation of Lelouch vs. Schneizel.

cg12.jpg

Sunrise gave us a nice cliffhanger setup here, as the Black Knights are pinned down with little hope for survival, and pitted against Schneizel and the Rounds as well as the Chinese. It promises to be epic next week.

cg13.jpg

Although it looks like Zero won’t have to defeat Xing Ke because the retarded eunuchs are going to rely on the Brittanians and capture Xing Ke. Silly, silly men without testicles. I’m sure Zero will kill most of you. That’s ok though, because next week is Schneizel vs. Lelouch, which should be fucking awesome. Apparently Lelouch and Diethard have some master plan they are putting into place a bit earlier then planned, but it is still ready. Excellent~

cg14.jpg

It’s been awhile since we had a WTF moment this season, but here we go. Apparently there’s a Lelouch doppelganger hanging around at Ashford. Now at first I thought nefarious things, like who’s impersonating Lelouch, what’s their plan on screwing with him? But if you really think about it Lelouch probably set it up because there’s only so much Villetta can cover up about his absence from Ashford, especially considering Suzaku’s contact with the students there. So this may be a way to keep up appearances with Rollo watching over him (since Rollo did not react funny to this Lelouch it was probably in the plan) so they don’t suspect him as Zero. As to how they are accomplishing this I’m not sure, maybe another geass user? It certainly would be an appropriate geass power, to make others believe you look/sound like someone else.

Overall, the action was decent, albeit short, and the competing battle plans could have been a bit better but it was still a thrilling ride. It was a good way to setup the much better action we can expect from next week when it’s Schneizel vs. Lelouch with Kallen as the prize. Looking forward to it.

Next Episode

cg15.jpgcg16.jpgcg17.jpg

The big showdown is next week, with an appearance by Orange-kun and C.C. piloting a knightmare once again. Plus lots of knightmare fights as expected with the Rounds included. Finally, next week the premiers a new OP and ED and I’m really looking forward to FLOW on the OP once again.

Crusader’s Angry Drunken Rant

I pledge allegiance to the rebel-fags of the United States of Alliance, and to the lulz for which it stands. One Harem under Lulu, with cheese-kun and pizza for all C2.

Aww don’t worry kid, the Communist Manifesto was shit, Das Kapital on the other hand…

Oh look another clueless bint. That explosion off your bow pretty much tipped off everyone. You even phrased it in the form of a question?! So much for competent bridge crew…

The fight between Toudo and Suzaku sucked I am sorry, but it was not epic nor did it have me on the edge of my seat. Toudo just destroyed the float system and then left, what a tease, what a let down. The mini Cannae gambit Lulu wanted to pull had me slightly excited until Loli-con Li just broke out a “fuck with the ground” hack. Damn it Li i thought that you were different, but you are just a bastard son of both Lulu and Suzaku…I believed in you! Maybe it’s because MGS4 was just more epic in scope so far so I guess I am a bit jaded, but come on Sunrise that Toudo vs Suzaku fight should have been longer. The leader board demands an update, now I can only hope Orange-kun gets a Partick Upgrade just to fuck with Toudo.

See it was fucking sound proof, with a Tian zi class Loli in said room…

No it is fucking NOT! Fuck you Kaguya. Fuck you and your foreplay. I wanted action!

Oh fuck Deithard has evolved into Oberstein, I hope he doesn’t devolve…

Lastly FUCK YOU Kaguya. I do not give two shits if you have a legion of loli-con fan boys (Also if you were not disappointed I demand you hand over your loli-con license and surrender your manhood, there was no fucking excuse to not pull a Chikane in a sound proof room. NO FUCKING EXCUSE.). You had a fucking sound proof room and Tian zi all to yourself and all the FUCK you do is hug?! Not even a Kiss or a near kiss?! Damn you and your fore play Kaguya I wanted Loli- yuri action and you fucking failed me! You are dead to me Kaguya. You are fucking dead to me…

    I think R2 is going the next-DEM-beats-previous-DEM way of Gundam 00.

    LOL @ Crusader’s Kaguya rant though. Oh c’mon comrade, you expect her to do THAT in the middle of a battlefield, even if it’s inside a soundproof room? Cut her some slack, there should be plenty of opportunities for her to do THAT later once they get away high and dry. ;)

    Do not worry I have a reputation for lying. :)

    Things look bad and unless Kallen does get involved in some shit or the next ep has some epic fights things look slow. We desperately need an Ali-class villain to keep things going.

    @Ascaloth
    Yes I expected the announcement of a sound proof room with two ronrey loli’s to come to something but nooooooooo… We need a ZOMG WTF! moment to top the table humping. My verdict stands worse time slot ever.

    I think what we’re seeing here from Lelouch regarding Kallen is some serious sincere interest in her. This might be due to the fact that she was the only one who “saved” him from his lowest point earlier in the season. When Lelouch lost his raison d’etre and turned to refrain Kallen gave him a reason to go on. There’s no question that prior to this incident he viewed her as just another sacrificial pawn. What’s really interesting is CC’s reaction to Lelouch’s concern. Is she a bit jealous over Kallen?

    With the last 2 episodes, Sunrise seems to be pushing Kallen and Lelouch closer and closer together, how is this going to affect his ‘relationship’ with Shirley?

    It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the future.

    Anyone noticed that none of Zero’s grand master scheme worked at all this season, other than the hilarious 1million Zero’s?

    Every other great idea he has goes down the drain faster than you can say “This might be it!”

    Right, then. Not only does Suzaku not recognize CC with Lulu, but he also has no reaction whatsoever upon seeing the picture with Milly groping Shirley? He is such a bag of douche.

    Anyway, who the heck is pretending to be Lulu? I thought it could be Rollo for a moment, but then the guy was also in the room. Meh.

    Rolo was in the room?! I didn’t see him.

    And IMO, I think that Lulu was so uptight about Kallen was because he had promised to have everybody together at Ashford after everything is over–or something like that. Of course with Lulu I don’t think it’s possible to have anything romantic happening, but ha! C.C. seems jealous. :) I prefer Kallen to C.C. anytime.

    Tianzi is just so ZOMG CUTE!

    Imagine if somebody actually decides to *interogate* Kallen, though. She could blow Zero’s scheme wide open- not only is the girl is his personal bodygaurd, she knows *everything*. Lulu *has* to get her back. Or you know, kill her.

    i just LOLed at the part with kallen just lying with her hands behind her head inside her gurren relaxing when lulu told her that he’d come and recuse her. i think she enjoys being a damsel in distress once in a while. though i think bad things since she’s now a hostage and that moron fag gino and his stalker loli anya are around

  12. Posted June 16, 2008 at 11:24 am | Permalink

    @Halcyon

    I think you make some good points, she did save him, and even in that episode he was about to run to her when Rollo stepped in. Not sure if C.C. is quite jealous yet over it, we’ll see. She’s much harder to read. And Shirley will unlikely amount to anything in the end, although they will be doing more school episodes before this is done (which is obvious because they showed the fake Lelouch). If it’s a romance end it’s for sure C.C. or Kallen.

    @Nekonron

    His stuff early on worked fine, episode 2 and 4 especially, but yeah he’s being backed into a corner often lately. Hopefully he recovers well against Schneizel.

    @Myu

    He’s only interested in Lelouch’s hot body right? O_o

    @Grey

    Check at 21:45, Rollo is right there with Rivalz and Shirley when fake Lelouch is speaking with Millay on the phone.

    @Jack

    Yeah that’s the biggest concern, but I don’t think they are going to bother with that right now since they are all about to raid Zero and they believe he’s just going to get wiped out. They don’t really have the time for a proper interrogation. And there’s no way Lelouch would kill her at this point, he promised to bring everyone back to Ashford together, which has become right up there with making a new world for Nunally in “stuff that’s important to Lelouch.”

    @Biankita

    God I hope she gets busted out of there and kicks those two Rounds’ asses, Gino especially irritates the shit out of me.

    I Feel that, even though Xing ke is smart, and can equal lulu on tactics… i think that all of this would normally be seen by lelouch on any other oponent!

    Seriously, Zero is known for analyzing the battle field, and using it for his advantage!! And, though he saw most of there idea, he would normally look deeper into the plan then that…. i think that they dumbed him down a bit so they could get the plan to roll along.

  14. Posted June 16, 2008 at 12:35 pm | Permalink

    Except Metal Gear Solid 4 would have drawn out the fight over the course of a 40 minute cutscene with gratuitous overacting and asshole cam. At that point the fight would become boring and we’d all just hit the start button to skip it.

    Question for you guys @ THAT:

    Has Lelouch abandoned his search for his mother’s “killer”? Since he’s gone all “World Domination” there’s been almost no mention of his quest to find out the truth behind his mother’s death.

    With SO MANY FRIKKEN loose ends, is it really possible to wrap them up in 15 episodes? (Who’s V.V? How’d he meet the emperor? What really happened to Lelouch’s mother? How do those temple-like structures in Japan and China related to C.C. and V.V? What happened to Cornelia? What’s going to happen with Nunnally and the Special Administrative Zone in Japan?).

    With so many questions and open-ended plot developments, do you think Sunrise is going to pull another “GOTCHA” cliffhanger ending for a possible Season 3 or will they be able to bring everything to a satisfactory close? (For some reason, I see possible sequels in the form of additional OVAs or movies for Code Geass).

  17. XXX
    Posted June 16, 2008 at 4:42 pm | Permalink

    Halcyon: I’d assume he will, if he gets Schneizel or some other Britannian royal in a position where he can ask them about it, or if some plot twist gives him more information. Otherwise, it’s not like he can find out just by pondering about it while he’s fighting or plotting.

    A lot of those Geass/Emperor/C.C./V.V./Marianne/Cornelia/Nunnally bits can probably be resolved without too much trouble…though I wouldn’t know if the answers will be convincing or not.

    Whatever you might say about Code Geass, the director has proven that he can wrap up pretty large amounts of loose ends (or simply subplots, to be fair), in his other shows. Whether he does so well, ok, or poorly is another matter.

  18. Posted June 16, 2008 at 4:50 pm | Permalink

    @Aisukage

    Yeah the competition of the minds this episode seemed fairly forced at times. There was no buildup for Xing Ke being all that smart, and Lelouch normally sees this kind of stuff. So it was a bit weak at times.

    @Kaioshin

    SNAAAAAAAAAAKE

    @Randor

    Tech wars=lose

    @Halcyon

    I don’t think so, in season one he said destroying Brittania and finding out what happened to his mother are one in the same. He has to get to the Emperor to destroy Brittania, and he has to get to the Emperor to find out about his mother. So the end is the same, even if he doesn’t talk about it all along the way.

    I think they can wrap it up, they are pretty good at explaining things through quick action rather than long, drawn out expositions over multiple episodes. I have confidence that it’s going to make sense in the end. And no, they have said it’s definitely over after this season, the staff head honchos said they wanted a two season show and that’s it. There may be manga or whatever for side/non-canon stuff, but nothing major.

    @XXX

    I have confidence in them they’ve done great so far =)

    Tsk. Tsk. Well anti-fan of Metal Gear, unlike you I’d grab a beer instead of skipping, so disappointing to hear such heresy these days. Kids… no respect for older franchises, but go ahead and dive into your next eroge. Kojima and his team put a lot of work into the game for the die-hards, and it’s Snake’s swan song. I have waited too long to not enjoy every moment of it. I was there at almost the beginning, I will be there at the end.

    @Calawain
    I’m no hero…Never was. I’m just an old killer… Hired to do some wet work.

  20. Posted June 16, 2008 at 7:25 pm | Permalink

    @Crusader: Hey I could talk to you for ages about classic franchises and in fact that one of the reasons I don’t like Metal Gear Solid anymore it resembles nothing of what it used to be about. I liked Metal Gear on the NES right up to Metal Gear Solid and loved the whole stealth style of gaming, but after and including Metal Gear Solid 2 the plot just got way to confusing, overwrought and self-absorbed with less and less actual effort put into the gameplay so much as “Kojima’s Vision” to the point where the only part I found enjoyable anymore turned out to be the boss fights which are actually well designed, tense and require you to find a weakness in order to progress.

    Outside of that the controls are needlessly complex, unintuitive and slow for a third person stealth shooter on the PS2, there’s too much going into menus and listening to comm conversations, all of which could have been streamlined for the sake of the flow of the game, but weren’t because it they were worrying about how Revolver Ocelot was going to pose when delivering his 8 minute or so monologue in the next scene. After realizing this I just gave up playing Metal Gear Solid 3 out of boredom and ended up watching the movie version that comes with the Subsistence pack. Really, and I think everybody feels this on some level, Metal Gear Solid is much more interesting as a sequence of cutscenes then as a game….kind of like interesting enough an eroge, which you suggested I go play when when I’m playing Metal Gear Solid it already feels like I am.

    Look at it this way, when the controller is in your lap as much as it’s in your hands then you might as well be watching an interactive movie. That’s my main gripe with Metal Gear Solid as a franchise and much of popular Japanese gaming these days. I’ll probably end up watching an LP of it at some point to find out what happens with all the characters.

    I’ve been watching Code Geass for a while now and this has been bugging me. When I first started watching the first season, ‘Schneizel’ was ‘Schneizer’ or ‘Schneider’ (I can’t remember) and ‘Kallen’ was ‘Karren.’ Then they switched at some point. Is this just a typical translation error confusing ‘r’ and ‘l’ as I’ve seen many Asian people do before, or is this intentional? Are their actual names Schneizel and Kallen? If so, that’s fucking retarded.

    Ok, this is my blind guess as to who that doppleganger Lelouch is… it’s probably Sayoko dressed up in his uniform and put on some purple colored eye contacts….? That would be my closest possibility, except that she followed all of the million Zeros on that iceberg on the way to China….
    Kaguya pulling a Chikane? Bitch please~, lolz….
    How come either you or Crusader didn’t put that screenshot at the 7:11 mark where you see a closeup of Zero’s face as he’s saying “Just as planned”?
    That Kallen-sip is pretty funny, as she took a look at Lelouch and C.C. walking to the elevator together and the look on her face says that she wants Lelouch all to herself to ride… and she looks all laid back and relaxed as she and her Guren are taken hostage….

    Well… some friend of mine accidentally told me a spoiler a while ago. I thought “oh crap, that would suck, it’s not going to happen”.

    But now it seems probable that… Kallen will betray Lulu and will work with the enemy :/
    Ergo, the Awesome-Knights will most likely fail to rescue her. And even if they succeed, what a shame it’s going to be when she’ll say “A cup of tea helped me to understand this better: Bugger off, you blokes are a bunch of wankers! Now I’m going to be all British and stuff!”

    Uhhmm, not to pull a dampener on your review, but just wanted to point out something on Lelouch’s lame-excuse concerning a possible betrayal from India, which came in the form of the Shen Hu arriving and if you will recall the general confusion concerning it when Larkshata was the one who built the Shen Hu but still ended up in C.F hands and her conclusion that the High King of India must have handed it over to the Eunuch’s. So yes, while I agree that it was mostly about getting Kallen back, there was some logic concerning his excuse about India’s betrayal considering that they just played a double-game here in terms of mech supplying and the like >_>

    You would do well to not play it as a shooter, weapons are nice, but it is crippled so you have to sneak around. You take on the Role of Solid/Old Snake, not the Masterchief. You have to pick your battles in MGS4 you cannot run and gun.

    Damn, good point.

    I’m prepared to be heartbroken, but it’s looking like this military adventure on the newly radically expanded Black Knights’ behalf is destined for failure. For about the reasons you’d expect to boot.

    1) Sovereign nation-states don’t have to take that kind of crap.

    2) Faking a half-decent mecha combat arm via insane micro-managing demigods is one thing, but you just can’t fake half-decent support crews in a week. Sucks to run out of gas, Kallen. Bet you’re all regretting thinking that transfering Tamaki to the motor pool meant he’d stop shooting you all in the foot. Teeth may be big and shiny, but ‘tail’ has to be more than an exhibitionist indian chick. Badum-bum.

  29. Posted June 17, 2008 at 8:31 pm | Permalink

    @Lulu Luau

    There are several different reasons. When a show first comes out the official romanizations for names haven’t been shown. So you can read カレン as Karen, Karren, Kalen, Kallen, etc. Eventually Sunrise came out and said it was “Kallen,” even though I’ve never seen anyone who spelled it like that. Different names have different reasons for the funny translation, their English is far from perfect.

    @EX-Keine

    That would be a neat trick, now that I think of it I’m pretty sure Sayoko is involved in this since he revealed himself to her and she wasn’t around in episode 10. I’ve done a ton of “just as planned” screenshots, I have to spice things up =)

    @Shin

    Crusader is always a-hatin’, he can’t help himself.

    @Coaxen

    Uh, I really doubt that, she has zero reason to betray her family, country and friends.

    @KrimzonStriker

    I know what you are talking about, but using the leakage of one scientific team’s data as evidence that India is about to betray them is a weak leg to stand on. We really don’t know enough about India at this point in the story.

    @Jack

    Unfortunately the Black Knights have like 3-4 good people in the entire organization against all the world can throw at them. They are huge underdogs in all this. Guerrillas have a tough time competing against established empires.

    @Coaxen

    …Seriously? I had a crazy theory after watching the episode, but if the spoiler’s true, it might not be so crazy. Basically, Lelouch opening up and showing that he cares about Kallen in some way screwed her over. It’s a rule of anime or something. Anyways, next episode, I think Lelouch will beat the Chinese Federation, but not before Kallen can fall into the hands of Schneizel. The Britannian reinforcements will escape, and Schneizel will bring Kallen back to the Emperor. The Emperor will use his Geass to change Kallen’s memories, making her think that she’s been a follower of Britannia all along. It’s a believable thing, seeing as she’s a halfie. Of course, in the process, the Emperor learns that Lelouch is back and of all the plans he told Kallen.. Nooooo.

    If that actually happens, even though it might be a bit of a stretch… damn. I don’t know what I’d think. I will say, though, that if there’s any KallenxSuzaku in this show, I’m going to personally go and destroy Sunrise HQ. Believe it. :'(

    @LinkTetra

    When Season One ended, I actually saw Kallen and Suzaku hooking up to some degree as likely, literally for a lack of better options. I’d figured every britanian citizen stuck outside a military enclave when the SAR ceremony went off was dead, the rebellion had collapsed, and that they were about to get ringside seats to the Britanian Empire doing a historical re-enactment of the First Mithridatic War, with the population of the Japanese islands showing up as the greeks. Which would have made both Suzaku’s and Kallen’s existing goals pretty much obsolete, due to a sudden decline in Japanese people of all relevant classes (educated professionals for the SAR and reckless patriotic types for the Black Knights). They were both going to need to brainstorm a “Plan B”, they were both right there, and they were both trying to do the same thing. So they might as well have thrown their lot in together.

    Lo and behold the Britianians actually had a set policy for regions that pull stunts like that (“Punishment Zone”), which for all its “You’re about to learn the difference between being second-class citizens and being sub-humans” connotations, didn’t involve mass crucifixions. So Suzaku’s job got *harder*, but he already knew it wasn’t going to be easy and was going to come down to perseverance, so he kept at it. And Lelouch was knocked back to a point he *needed* his erstwhile minions, so Kallen could make a credible play to acquiring him as ‘pet genius’ of the “Liberating Japan? *Now* it’s a priority, sis-con. Or maybe I could just leave you where you are…” sort.

    I still find Kallen and Suzaku to be more logically allies than Kallen and Lelouch and Suzaku and Charles are, though.

    Their compatibility is what scares me. That fireside chat seemed way too foreshadowing. I hate Suzaku with a passion, and would cry rivers if they had Kallen hooking up with him. Though, a stint because of being Geass’d by the emperor could have potential.

    Lelouch: Kallen! I’ve realized that I can’t go on without y– waitwut… RAAAAAGEEEE

    Errr, once again there is no way Kallen is going to be captured and brainwashed. The most fundamental reason is that it kills the romance conflict subplot. The tension between C.C. and Kallen (as small as it is, it’s mostly implied) is something that is present in almost every good story and is present in every single mecha story ever. It would also invalidate so much of the backstory involving Kallen, and many other reasons not worth mentioning. Plus, Sunrise knows people would rage if that happened and they are really good at pandering so don’t count on it. And I’ve seen the Newtype spoilers for up to episode 13 and nothing like that is in there. Calm down -_-

    @Calawain
    Thanks for the info. I can understand how certain sounds or names won’t translate perfectly between languages. What I think is a shame is that the animation studio or whoever is responsible on the writing side doesn’t take the time to research the language properly, uses a bunch of names they think sound cool, and then butcher them.
