Hmm, I think the episode just showed the difference between venus and mars, simply from that statement. It’s all about the sex, Yano, it’s all about the sex. The story just goes on more and more levels, as we see more of the complexity that is uncovering slowly. There are so many secrets hidden, and Nana is slowly realizing the fact that the secrets behind Yamamoto and Yano were starting to be confusing. She is worried, yet she does not know what to do.

There are so many thoughts that are running in my head now and it’s really hard to keep everything in a coherent state. Hence, i will go with the episode summary now and then go in with all my thoughts. There are so many things in this series that were moving, said or developing that it’s really hard to do a summary even. But, i will work hard!

A side point: I hate myself because i fricking spoiled myself reading the possible ending of Bokura ga ita manga. I wanna die now. Like die. The anime better give me a good explaination before I go Watangashi.

Episode summary

The episode started with the flashback from the previous episode, where Yano was holding hands with Yamamoto. As the episode started, we see Yano asking whether Nana was free to go out. However, Nana said that she had to go for a All-you-can-eat-cake buffet with Mizu-chin and the other friend and was unable to go with him. It was strange to Yano though. He then wondered as she was always complaining that she was broke and always ordering fruit milk, even though he offered to treat her.Yano met up with the two friends and he asked why they did not go for the buffet yet. They said that they already went last week and Nana was not able to go because she did not have enough money.

He knew then that Nana had lied to him and he met with another friend to spy on Nana. Nana was sitting there alone, waiting for Takeuchi to actually come over. She actually had asked Takeuchi earlier on what Yano liked for a Christmas present but Takeuchi simply said that whatever Nana bought for Yano, Yano would be glad to have it. Yano was still quietly spying at Nana when she picked up a call from Takeushi, realising that Takeuchi did not have time to go with her. She left and went around some shopping complexes to find a present for Yano.

As Nana continued to hunt down a present, Yano was outside, getting worried. When Yano noticed finally that she was in fact buying a gift for him, he was touched as he knew that Nana had been drinking fruit milk to save money. Nana then came out with a bag and he felt that he was overeacting on the matter. The sight of Takeuchi appearing to the scene got Yano really frustated as his worst fears came true. His friend had to stop him but Takeuchi in fact only came to make sure that Nana had found a gift for Yano. Nana then asked Takeuchi for a drink but he said that he only came to check on her and left.

It was then that the scene changed with Yano collecting the ring from Trap-san. Trap-san then asked Yano why he did not even bother to bring flowers or visit the grave of his previous girlfriend after so long. However, he simply screamed at Trap-san to shut up and that his previous girlfriend was just a stupid bitch.

“Even if a stupid bitch feels regret, it was too late already.” He said, as he left.

The next day, the whole class was clearing up snow, while the boys were playing snowfights. Nana could feel that Yano was ignoring her but she was not sure. As Yano faced her, he immediately turned away and she knew for sure that he was avoiding her.

As she chased Yano for an answer and trying to stop Yano, Yano continued to walk fast as she was carrying a ice shovel with her. Yano was clearly jealous of Takeuchi and was ignoring her because of that. She then fell and feigned dead as Yano came over. He thought at first that Nana was playing a little trick at him but got seriously worried when Nana did not move at all. As he placed his hands on Nana, Nana made a little movement as he stood up and walked away. Nana stood up as well and Yano made a kick on the snow, pelting her with a lot of snow.

She was really angry, as she was simply trying to make a joke. She did not understand what Yano was thinking and she gave chase. After a while, she got really angry as she threw the Christmas present at Yano, calling him a moron as she cried at her stationary spot. Yano saw her crying and went over, trying to comfort for the crying Nana. A side note here, but I am so going to kill Yano because he is making my poor Nana cry every few minutes in each episode. He then said that at least she was still alive, which was probably a reference to his previous girlfriend.

As Yano unwrapped the gift that Nana gave him, he found that it was in fact a pointed hat. Nana started to explain why she chose the present and was panicking as she said that she could change it if Yano did not like it. However, Yano wore it immediately and asked her whether it was nice. She said it was very nice, when in fact, she meant it was incredibly nice.

Yano then passed her the gift that he bought for her, the cute ring that she was eyeing previously. He then mentioned that he would probably have to go on fruit milk as well. Nana started to cry, as she thought in her mind that her tears were getting more fragile ever since she went out with Yano. Yano told her that he hoped that the tears that she would cry would be tears of happiness, rather than tears of sadness. It was a touching scene, as they smiled at each other.

Yano then realised that he had forgotten to take his Math 1 textbook and he had left it in his locker. As they got back to the classroom, Nana said that she was going to the ladies as Yano entered the classroom, only to see Yamamoto. Yamamoto thanked Yano for carrying her in the stairs but told him not to save her anymore. She did not want to owe him anything.

“If you hate me that much, we shouldn’t have even gotten to know each other to begin with.” Yano said.

“You only used me to get revenge on my sister.” Yamamoto said.

Yano then said that there was nothing like that and Yamamoto should not assume that there was a hidden meaning because there was nothing like that. However, Yamamoto then asked why Yano had cried then. Yano ignored Yamamoto and was about to go out, only to see Nana standing at the opening of the door. She had overheard the conversation.

As Nana was confused and wondering why Yano had actually cried, she called Takeuchi out and even Takeuchi was surprised as he had never seen Yano cry before. He felt that even though Yano was human, he was somewhat different. Takeuchi also seemed to say that the relationship between Yamamoto and Yano was as so in middle school, due to the fact that they were both related to the ex-girlfriend. There was nothing unusual about their relationship, as Takeuchi noted. Yamamoto was like that even in middle school.

Nana was then curious why the ex-girlfriend liked her previous boyfriend that much and wondered if the man was charming. Takeuchi said that the man was very awful and often gave the ex-girlfriend bruises. Takeuchi had wondered why Yano had ended up with such a stupid person but that was love. He had felt that it was so dumb that Yano and his ex-girlfriend were together and he could not get rid of that image ever.

We were back at the class where Nana picked a front seat and she was annoyed. However, the worst arrangement was Yamamoto and Yano sitting along each other. Yano and Nana then sat down and Nana wanted to ask about what exactly happened between the two of them but stopped, as she did not know how to ask that question. Yano then asked her why she had lied about going out for the buffet. Nana said that she meant it as a surprise but Yano was angry that she had went out with a guy without telling him. He did not want Nana to hide any secrets from him.

We then see a flashback of Yamamoto and Yano, with them sharing an English book and having fun with each other. It was then back to reality as Yano and Nana were sitting on a bench, drinking fruit milk. Nana said that if she had money, she would have a date with Yano at Disneyland. Yano said that he did not need money but just want love. Nana said that she would give him as much love and he started to suggest coming over to his house when his family was not around.

His kind of love seemed to be more perverted than anything else. They walked on as they passed back a toy grabbing machine. Even though they were broke, Yano betted on his life savings to pick a toy but missed. Even though they were disappointed, they smiled as each other. Nana just wanted to see Yano smile at her more.

In the class, Yano forgot to bring his biology textbook and wanted to borrow a book from his male friend. On second thoughts, we saw him asking Yamamoto to share her biology book, as she did so. Everyone was quite shocked, including Nana, as they thought that Yamamoto hated Yano a lot. Nana then asked Yano over on Sunday as she said that her family was out. Yano grabbed the chance and came.

Yano arrived only to see Nana with her mother. Yano was definitely shaken but as Yano came to her room, she was getting slightly nervous. Yano then started to use his hand and pressed down on the bed various times (I am sure there is some sexual innuendo here, but i do not get it). Nana’s mom started appraising Yano and was talking with him. Nana then slipped out that Yano’s father was in realty and that Yano’s house was very big. Yano had to quickly make an excuse that it was not as big because Nana had only seen his house from the outside, to alleivate the stress from Nana’s mother.

As they went back to the room, Nana played a CD and she was feeling awkward with the sudden silence. Yano said that he would not do anything as Nana’s mother would probably enter the room without asking. Nana said that she would not but was immediately proven wrong when Nana’s mother came in with tea without asking.

As they lied on the bed together, Nana said that she really loved Yano a lot and she learned a lot more about Yano, like how he could be a bigger dofus than before, how he brush her hair and his childlish side. Nana was still troubled by the relationship between Yamamoto and Yano and she was jealous that Yamamoto had seen a side of Yano that she did not.

As Nana asked her the relationship between Yamamoto and Yano, Yano kept quiet. Yano asked her why she asked and she said that it was because that she felt uncomfortable with it, just like how he was previously. Yano did not answer.

The silence continued…

Episode thoughts

Hmm, what can i say? Takeuchi clearly likes Nana a lot but it seems that Yano already realised it and he gets overly jealous with Nana. The thing i feel about Yano is that he does not trust Nana at all. He seems to be really insecure with the whole condition, as we can see from various situations in this episode (stalking her, questioning her, snow time). For some reason, this insecurity would probably hurt them and seperate them. The fact that he was being so clearly insecure meant that he would be overprotecting and it was only time that Nana would no longer be able to comply with it.

Secondly, Yano definitely was hiding a lot of things from Nana. On one hand, he wants Nana to come clear of any secrets from her, yet he was not willing to tell her everything. It was disturbing, because that makes a strong recipe for disaster. What will happen when Nana finally finds out. The indication that Yamamoto and Yano had sex was subtly apparant in this episode as well, and I do not want to know how Nana will take it.

That said, Nana was really a very good girlfriend. Instead of being hurt, she continued to comfort and soothe the broken heart of Yano, a boy that was so insecure and deeply hurt in his heart. Even though there were times where she was no longer to take the pain and tears fell, she continued on and she kept loving Yano. The kind of love that Nana was showing was probably the only thing that can save Yano now.

Lastly, I am not optimistic that they will stay happy for a long time. The fact from the first two paragraphs of my thoughts was that the insecurity and hiding of secrets from Nana would soon be a backfire attempt. I do not know, i just cannot see a good ending coming out of all this and I am very sure that there will be tons of emo-drama going on with this series. However, the multiple complexities of each character meant that I will be kept guessing on what is going to happen.

This is the charm of this series. Even though it seemed that the story was going to lead you into a very predictable plot, it suddenly twisted it and makes it different enough to make you guess again. Yet, it never makes it too hard for you to understand. Truly, this is going to be one of the possible series that can match up with Kare Kano, if not better. I hold my breath for this series to unfold slowly.

The preview seemed to be about Yamamoto and Yano and the revealing of their relationship to Nana. However, it is rather unclear and I am not too sure what is going to happen next episode. Can’t wait for more!
