Japanese Snack Love

Food, heck yes.

Along with the worldwide absorption of the Japanese anime/manga and other types of pop-culture, the enormous variety of Japanese snacks have also gained widespread popularity.
I don’t know about you, but I’m lucky to have a couple of asian supermarkets around locally and even their selection totally blows me away. There’s simply too many different kinds of snacks, drinks and candies to choose from. Most people I know, only recognize the relatively popular products such as Pocky, Pocari Sweat, Ramune, etc.

In any case, I have tons of favorites, but there are also a ton that I want to try as well…

The description from an online site I visited:

A great chewing gum with a strong, minty flavor that’s designed to give you a lift and wake you up, this popular gum is loaded with caffeine. Made famous all around the world by the Internet (and mentioned in Wired Magazine), this is a unique chewing gum, refreshing and full of energy that wakes you up — and quickly, too, since caffeine in gum is absorbed 3 times faster than coffee. Jean-Claude van Dam did their commercials here in Japan. This is a delicious and flavorful gum with a real punch and super caffeine to keep you up and operating.

With all Lotte’s delicious popular chewing gum, you get not only tasty chewing enjoyment, but funny English as well! In each pack of Lotte gum there are rare sticks that say “Yes, Chewing!” on them. Order 15 packs and we’ll send you a shrinkwrapped box!

Note: this product contains niacinamide, a form of Vitamin B-3 that has many beneficial properties. In Japanese, this ingredient is called “nikochin san amido” which caused some questions about the possibility that nicotine was present in this product. We have verified that there is no nicotine in Black Black. For more information on niacinamide, read this link or this link.

The ingredients in Black Black are: sugar, starch syrup, grape sugar, erythritol, oolong tea extract, gingko extract, chrysanthemum flower extract, gum base, flavorings, coloring agents (cacao, gardenia), caffeine, niacinamide. Product contains gelatin.

Anyone have experience with this product? lol. I’ve been keen on trying it out, but the entire “caffeine gum” aspect of it also keeps me a bit anxious about it as well.
I mean, heck, they even got Jean Claude van Damme to do a commercial for the product, lol.

Of course, then there’re the ones that I love (those are a few, lol).

The Koalas March has always been one of my favorite. I don’t know, I just like the cookie koala figures filled with various types of stuff (some I know of include chocolate, white chocolate, strawberry, blueberry, hazelnut, etc) and how they come in little pouches, lol.
Then there’s the Mitsuya Cider Gummys and Shigekix Ultra Ramune type gummies. I love Mitsuya’s hard-type candies too… heck, I love most of Mitsuya’s fizzy candies. It’s really interseting to feel the candies fizz in your mouth a bit upon eating, lol. Of course, Shigekix is there for its sour nature.
And then my favorite of them all: Morinaga’s caramel lineup. Oh man, I’m a big fan of caramel candies, and their assorted flavored versions of them (black sugar, green tea, etc.) gives me a choice, lol.

Mmn. . I must try out new products and find other favorites, lol. Snack love. <3
