Hoshizora Kiseki: Review

Kozue is a normal girl who has a great interest in astronomy. She enjoys the stars, chasing after shooting stars and anything to do with meteors. She never really remember why she likes astronomy that much but she does hear voices in her head. She never knows who that voice is or where the voice actually comes from.

It is a lonely voice that she hears sometimes and that voice is yearning for her to be with him one day.

This is probably not going to sound nice, but even though Hoshizora Kiseki is an anime with a very strong premise, the execution of this OVA movie is really bad. I mean, it does not take much for me to fall into tears or go aww at the romance, which is what the movie tries to do. I know I am making a very unfair comparison, but the premise of romance in distance is much better presented in “Voices of a distant star”. There are flaws like frame rate and all in “Voices” but at least, the emotions conveyed is strong.

I cannot say the same for this. I am left with a strange feeling. It is more like…erm yea. That sort of feeling that has no emotional baggage with it.

Plot

Generally, there is another boy in the story that is called Ginga. He seems to be suffering from certain effects that make him have power over meteors or something (that is also pretty fuzzy). Kozue always carries a meteor piece that was given to her by a little boy when she was young. It was because of the boy that she started to be interested in astronomy, hoping that her love of astronomy would bring her to the boy one day.

It is a simple tale of love over distance and space. Two people from different worlds, connected by the meteor that binds them together.

Thoughts

I don’t know. Hoshizora Kiseki to me was something that could be executed and made into an instant classic but the amount of interaction (I mean, they only knew for the first thing technically) and suddenly in some psuedo-reality state, realises that they are actually waiting for each other? I mean, that to me was a really weak storyline.

We never really know much about what is with Ginga and the likes. The fact that everything is explained at the end was to me, too weak to save the story because I see the first 15 minutes who to me are not even building up the character. It is decent to watch when you have nothing, but for me, a sucker of romance, I found my time of 25 minutes wasted on watching something that could have been good.

An interesting premise, badly executed. I am not sure whether I can recommend this but perhaps, it will be good to watch on a rainy day when there is nothing else available.

I am sorry. There is really nothing for me to say when I am so disappointed when it promises so much at the start.

Agreed. I also saw this a couple weeks ago

The idea of the show was an interesting one, and had they expand upon it and elaborate, I would say it could’ve made a decent 6 episode OVA or something

hahaha, i was thinking more like a 3 part OVA. 6, i got a feeling it might be a bit draggy.

They could have the first OVA, half covering the past and then talking about Kozue pursuing the stars and her ambiguity with the voice.

The 2nd part will be the search and loss of reality due to the pursueing of the line between space and time.

Eventually, we have a climatic end, whether happy or sad.

*MAN, I SHOULD BE A SCRIPTWRITER, ROFL!
