Shinigami no Ballad 3

Episode 3 is pretty interesting. This time, we have a smart girl that was called “Tomato” (HUH FOR A NAME) and the relationship between her and another boy that was close to her ever since they were young. I quite like Episode 3, since the two main leads this time have a good chemistry between them. The girl clearly liked the guy a lot, even though the guy seemed to be rather thick-skulled when it comes to it.

Sigh, why do all male leads in an anime seemed to be either a pervert or just a thick skulled man that could not tell that the girl clearly liked you? It always perplexed me that something like that always happen in anime world. It was just so annoying that I sometimes wished I could slap them properly to wake up their senses.

Episode summary

The boy was following a game that his grandfather had gave him as a parting present. We knew that the grandfather had died a few years ago and he was an avid rpg gamer. As the boy and the mother was clearing up some things left behind by the grandfather, he found a parting present in the form of a map. It was a treasure hunt as he decided to leave his studying behind to go the home town of his grandfather.

As he was about to leave on the railway, his childhood friend, “Tomato”, came over to stop him, telling him that he had lessons to take note of. Despite her various pleas, he decided that he had to fulfil that promise with his grandfather. Tomato then smiled, as she followed him along. She already intended to do so as she had brought a lot of luggage along with her, and well, she was supposed to be in school.

After moving around, observing the sky and the likes, they finally reached the destination. Along the way, the boy had visions of his grandfather and a red haired girl, in which they were still kids. He saw them doing the things they did when they were young. They then stayed in the inn in the small town, as Tomato smartly lied that they were siblings and got a room for two. She then mentioned while they were going to sleep that she was going to move away, and the boy did not know how to react. It was clear that the girl seemed to try her best to be strong when she sometimes required someone to comfort her.

The next day, they tried to find the treasure using the handdrawn map. They did not know how to find it until the boy saw a vision of his grandfather as he followed it. They then saw the tree as they dug out a box, containing a marble. The girl smiled as it was probably a parting gift from the grandfather to the girl. The grandfather probably knew that Tomato cared too much not to follow the boy. The boy also replied back to Tomato that he would visit her…

From a distance, Momo and Daniel shapeshifted back to their original selves. The vision was in fact them.

Thoughts

I like this quite a bit. There was no hard romance in this episode but the interaction between the two are more interactive compared to the previous two. For some reason, this was more light hearted drama, as I feel that it was a good turn. Just when there was strong emo-drama in the first two, this was more sweet and pleasant. Even though for one, it still revolved around the slight theme of death.

Quite nice, i have to take some time tomorrow to watch the rest of it.
