Well, looks like the first episode of D.Gray-Man is finally out (subbed that is). I initially had no background on this series at all. While looking through the catalog of shows showing this season, I ran across it and thought I’d give it a try. So far, it’s pretty interesting.
Story-wise, it reminds me a lot of the demon/devil/ghost-vanquisher type storylines. Your main character goes by the name of Allen Walker, who is essentially a demon (akuma) hunter/exorcist. His red hand engraved with the strange cross sign is an anti-akuma weapon with which he transforms into a giant claw-hand.
The first episode really doesn’t let in much on any character development. That is to be expected though, since they’re basically establishing the premise of the story afterall.
The episode begins with Allen arriving at a town while on his way to pay a visit to the “akuma extermination group.” In this town, there have been rumors of a haunted building where people have disappeared, leaving only their clothes behind. Two police officers, a man named Charles and a lady named Moore, are investigating the disappearances. As they venture in, a cat rubs against Charles’ leg, causing him to freak out. Moore picks up the cat, and is then swooped into a neighboring room by a mysterious figure.
The mysterious figure turns out to be Allen. Apparently, the cat stole something from him, and he’s been trying to get it back. Moore, somewhat shaken, handcuffs Allen and begins interrogating him regarding his stay in such a shady building. After some dialogue, we hear Charles’ scream. Both Allen and Moore run out to find Charles grow black stars on his body a’la infection, and then combust into nothingness.
Moore, who’s having a hard time comprehending the situation, faints.
Summary/Critique still in progress.
