Pumpkin Scissors

Despite it’s innocent sounding name, Pumpkin Scissors isn’t some cute bishoujo anime but instead it is an anime with a WW2 vibe and the art reminds one of Fullmetal Alchemist. I wouldn’t be surprised if the plot contained similar tragic elements as well since it is a post-war anime.

The premise of the anime is that the Empire has been at war with The Republic of Frost for some time already. A ceasefire called the “Thin Ice Treaty” was finally signed to end the bloodshed but 3 years later, things are not looking very good for the citizens of the Empire. The war has caused people to be homeless, struck by poverty and raided by ex-soldier bandits.

The lead female of Pumpkin Scissors is 2nd lieutenant Alice L. Malvin and she is your sterotypical zealous “all for justice” kind of officer. She is currently in charge of a small unit called the Imperial Army S.S. III “Pumpkin Scissors” platoon which is meant to bring war relief and eliminate the ex-soldier bandits.

The other lead of this anime is Randel Orlando who was a former war veteran. As an ex-soldier from the 901 Anti-Tank Troopers division, he now has this lost and aimless look about him…

…but when Randel gets into battle, he reveals a darker side of himself.

And if you’re still wondering why this anime is called Pumpkin Scissors, that is because the pumpkin scissors are large and tough pruning cutters that can cut through the thick skins of pumpkin gourds. This is definitely a promising new anime from the Fall Season!
