Ok, I am officially freaked out watching the first fifteen minutes of Ghost Hunt episode 5. In fact, I think i gasped too hard and bit my tongue during one of the scenes because I was seriously creeped out and required to pause the show and get a drink.
Yes, Impzie is a scaredy cat when it comes to horror but Ghost Hunt is really improving as an anime after episode 3. The new arc has proven to be freakish and I will not waste any more time and go on with the episode summary before I forget and have to re-watch it (which I won’t because I am scared silly).

Episode summary

Ok, we started with the flashback of the Mimi’s head coming off. As they went to check it out, Mimi was sitting as it was placed, and Shibuya said that equipment tended to be problematic with the influence of spirits.
As Mai woke up the next day, Mai overheard the girl talking to the doll and it seemed that Mimi was able to talk ever since the first day they came. It was then Mimi started to tell the girl that her sister and all are trying to hurt her and the doll would protect her if she listened to her and not tell about her existence. At night, the sister was assaulted by someone who grabbed hard at her heels.
After that, there was graffiti on the wall stating “Bad child”, indicating that the doll had found out that the girl had said something about her. Shibuya told Mai to stay close to the girl at all times. The next day, the girl was out playing when she was trying to pluck a flower when she was dragged in. Mai dug at the roots and loosened her but the girl ran all the way to the pool, seemingly chased by Mimi (not in sight). The monk, on the other hand, was trying to burn the doll with the box, but found that the doll was well in place, with the ashes of the box.
The girl was then drowning, but was saved by Mai. Mai then saw the doll floating in the water, grinning at her. Mai was then informed by Shibuya, who did some research and realized that there were many young kids around the age of 7-10 dying in this place. Many families who stayed here had children dying and this might be the reason why there was a collection of child spirits. Shibuya did not understand why the child spirits had tried to attack Mai and the sister if they were lonely.

Shibuya also recruited the help of the shrine maiden and the exorcist. The shrine maiden immediately felt the hideous spirits and was very weak by the time she reached the headquarters as she fell on Shibuya, eliciting a jealous response from Mai. She then reconfirmed about the child spirits, while Shibuya told the monk to take a look on Mimi.
Mimi disappeared at the one moment that they did not pay attention, with the child crying very strong, as they tried to find the girl. The exorcist’s charms seemed to work, until the cries stopped. The witch then came over, holding Mimi who was wrapped under the girl. The child spirits had found the girl, who was why they stopped.
The exorcist then managed to get rid of the spirit in the doll, but said that the spirit in the house still remains. The monk was able to burn the doll easily this time. They then evacuated the girl and the sister, giving them a talisman for safety. The shrine maiden mentioned that the spirits did not detect them leaving and it was safe. With that, the monk went to chant and eventually, a middle-aged woman’s spirit started to chant about her daughter in the room while the spirits roamed around the monk….Who is this spirit?

Thoughts

Dolls are freaky. I do not understand why people like to keep them. For example, that Rozen maiden doll that they were making was more creepy than beautiful. I will never dare to own one because it will seriously creep me out in the early mornings. What if it falls and lands on my face? I will definitely scream my guts out at 3 am in the morning. So, the rule of thumb is never to have a freaking doll, no matter how young or old you are.
Dolls = scary.
I also found that the sound effects and music used in this episode is excellent, building up the creepy mood to scare me silly. Yes, I get scared easily but still, they have to be doing something correct to scare me that much. I also enjoyed the part when the doll floated up from the water after resucing the girl. That was downright creepy and it gave me a big scare when it happened. I thought that they had set up a good mood with the head coming off in episode 4.
Then, in episode 5, we realize that it was in fact all ok. The burning scene of the doll and it appearing completely safe from the ashes was pretty scary. I also found the exorcising part, when the doll’s eyes started to open when the exorcist was doing his stuff to be totally stunning. I mean, it gives you the chills and I totally would avoid all dolls for the next few days at the very least.
Dolls = downright scary.
I was so glad when they were able to burn the doll away. Dolls are evil. However, on the point of Mai going all sensitive over Shibuya was rather annoying to me. I like Mai as a main character but I wish she stops fanboying Shibuya so much. For some strange reason, I dislike it. I do not even know why but maybe it is because it still feels out of place.
Also, there is no doubt this time, unlike episode 1-3 (the first arc) that there is indeed a spirit for this. I mentioned before that I feel with the seeing of the ghost, it might lose the impact. I do not know about you, but there’s always a possibility of desensitizing the audience once you do that. It’s logical that it has only shock impact once and that’s it. That is, if you are not a scardey cat like me.
Moral of the story?
Dolls = damn downright scary

This just made it freaking worse =_=
Ha ha my cousin is scared of dolls too. Whenever she slept over she’d run through the corridor where my mother had her collection of dolls. It’s all because she peeked when her grand parents were watching Chuckie on TV.
To be fair now that I’m older, my mum gave me a Victorian doll as a gift and it lies in a very unused room
-_-….if i get that victorian doll, the first thing i do is to burn it. Sorry T_T
I am totally creeped out by dolls now, and ghost hunt is definitely not helping me with it at all. Sigh. This is so troubling nano desuyo~
I remember Chucky. I watched it when i was very young and….needless to say, my eyes were shut most of the time. Tee hee. It’s very interesting how someone so scared of horror genres is in fact doing an episode summary + thoughts for this series, yes ?
