A happy family was split apart and led to a tradgey that others have to suffer. Tomiko has suffered enough. Her mother has suffered enough.
An Onmyouji, the man who will alleviate their sufferings, will finally arrive to bring them to heaven, to appease them.
This is the concluding arc of the doll, with a rather interesting ending to say the very least. I will not say that it’s wonderfully crafted or something that I expected, but there is a sudden sense of humanity that I like about it. This arc is pretty good, with the frightening and scary portions still prominent in the first half of the show.

Episode Summary

As everyone showed the woman mumbling about Tomiko in the screen, it seemed that the monk did not see her. Mai rushed over, warning the monk but was passed through by the ghost who told her that she would punish whoever had intruded this place as Mai was starting to be strangled.
The monk then did a chant and got rid of the spirit strangling Mai as they escaped. It seemed that after the incident, they noticed a crack in the floor, showing a well that was built underneath. It seemed that all the spirits of the child as well as the woman was trapped in the well forever, as said by the shrine maiden, Masako.
Even though the spirits wanted to leave, they were bind down by the woman and unable to escape to find their parents. Shibuya (or Naru) then left, without saying a word again like his usual narcissistic self. They then tried to do something in his absence, with the witch doing chants. Mai was with her since the witch said she was scared and Mai was suddenly grabbed and dragged into the well. Even though the witch and the assistant tried to save Mai, she still fell.
She then had a dream sequence of the spirit’s daughter abducted away and her falling in the well due to sadness of the lost child after the child was found floating in the pond 6 months later. As she woke up, she realized that she was rescued and she closed her eyes, only to go into another dream sequence where Naru was soft-hearted and told her to work hard. However, she was awaken and she was sure that it’s the real Naru because he was at his narcissistic self as usual.

Naru was back as he called back the exorcist and Masako, saying that it was safe to leave the little girl alone. He then said that he had a plan in order to force the woman out since she was the key to solving this problem. He then asked the witch to make talismans in order to conjure the ghosts out of the “spirit’s door” and prevent everyone from getting out. The spirit’s door is situated at the northeast corner, where evil spirits could enter easily.
Their rationale was that by dispersing the amount of spirits around the area, it would attract the spirit to come out as they needed a deep concentration of spirits for their ability to disrupt. The exorcist started to attempt to disperse the spirits, but slowly, the woman ghost came and overpowered him.
Masako appealed to her to stop doing it, but the woman portrayed an immense amount of fear into Masako, rendering her helpless. Naru-chan then walked over, threw a figurine inscribed with a name, as it suddenly turned to the child, Tomiko. The feeling was completely changed in the room, as the mother was finally able to find peace, with the other children able to move up to heaven, no longer bind by the anger of the woman.
At the aftermath, we realized that it was in fact a voodoo doll that was used to symbolize the girl, Tomiko, with her birth date and the likes. Like all forms of voodoo magic and spiritual abilities, there are black arts and white arts. Black arts destruct while white arts construct and give life. Hence, it was able to create the image of Tomiko, returning the woman her child. With that, they finished the mission, with the witch and monk calling Naru-chan an Onmyouji. An Onmyouji was considered to be truly powerful and Mai wondered if Naru-chan intended to appease and cleanse the spirit in the first place rather than destroying her.

Thoughts

Wonderful episode. I really enjoyed it quite a bit due to the fact that the various explanations on spirits and the technicalities. This is really a show that has to be watched with subs, particularly due to various jargons that are used to explain the situation. I wonder why it is so slow from being subbed because it is a rather fabulous series as it went on.
Sure, the first three episodes are pretty slow, even though it might seem rather average. However, from episode 4 onwards, the chill, fear and scary factor is really up there and I am really enjoying the whole ride. I mean, episode 5 really freaked me out big time with the doll and all. I really officially hate dolls, which is a good thing that episode 6 did not have those fricking dolls. I swear that I will have nightmares.
I find the resolution of the episode to be a bit weak. I mean, I can understand the use of the voodoo doll and the explanation for the usage was good too. However, I was seriously expecting something more grandeur than that, but the ending scene where the spirits turned into light and the mother embracing her daughter was still a decent conclusion for this series. I found that uplifting scene a cliche, but nevertheless, still a decent cliche that I enjoyed.
The part about the dream sequence was interesting too. Is Mai just a normal person or does she in fact have some spiritual powers as well? I cannot rule out that possibility, since she has been dreaming of various incidents. You might see it simply as over imagination but I believe there is probably some latent effect in her that is waiting to manifest.
All in all, next week is the coming of the new arc, with the curse after school. I think it will be rather interesting once again and hope to see the next week soon.
That is, if I finish studying for my exams. ~_~

Thanks for the summary. Helps fill in more than a few gaps. LOL at Mai’s dream of Naru-chan, then she wakes up and he’s his usual stoney self
Gaah. The doll was scary, I agree. I don’t get afraid easily, but dolls ALWAYS manage to scare me. I can’t wait to watch episode seven, I really like this series without it needing to be anything amazing.
