Ever have those instances where you lose everything in the blink of an eye?
Well, I’ve been somewhat annoyed… mainly because just a day ago, I lost about 70GB of anime that I had not burned onto DVDs yet.
Yep… 70GB. Stupid stupid portable harddrive, why must you fail meeeeeeee. On top of that, I lost about 10GB of random manga, all my Suzumiya Haruhi and Zero no Tsukaima japanese novel scans, some backed up school-related files and work.
Yeah, so it’s literally ‘meh,’ Haha.
Anyhow, I guess this brings up a pretty good topic anyways. Hey, I can be glad right? My misfortune may have brought about discussion amongst anime lovers regarding a pretty common problem (at least to those that I’ve talked to): How do you guys handle/manage your anime wares?
From my personal assumptions, I’m thinking that most people either fall into one of few categories:
1. Have humongous 028510385710 terabyte harddrives on which they simply horde their material.
2. Download then burn to DVDs (I do that… but I had a backlog unfortunately).
3. Simply watch and delete afterwards (sort of pointless to download with the advent of Youtube?)
4. None of the above. Simply mooch/leech off of friends’ hard work. (I used to do that, lol)
What do all of you do? Anybody have some good advice on the topic of anime storage/management for someone like me? lol. Being that I’m limited to a laptop (about 80GB of freespace out of my 100GB) and a portable HDD (about 94GB of freespace out of 100GB), I’ve been slaved to simply burning DVDs. Should I try and purchace one of those enormous 300GB portable HDDs? They do come relatively cheap nowadays (my gripe is 7200rpm or whatever minimum)… or should I simply resume with my DVDs.
I guess my biggest argument is simply which one is more cost effective? Given that DVDs are becoming cheaper and cheaper nowadays, I don’t mind that as much… but then again, the cost does gradually add up. Figuring, a series can fit on approximately one DVD, hm…
290GB / approximately 4.5GB per DVD = 64DVDs
Yeah, it’s still cost effective to buy DVDs I suppose. Anyhow, I digress. So, what do you all think? How do you store the multiple gigabytes of anime that you (and we) all seem to horde?
