Let’s have an exercise in futility: ranking the Espada. There have been many number theories and mathematical sequences generated in order to create a logical order to the ranking of the Espada but so far none have been correct. Because I’m bored, let’s talk about what you think the ranking of the Espada might be. There might be spoilers below so don’t click if you’re not caught up with the manga. I have included a picture of the infamous tea party table seating for reference (click for bigger).
Here’s my personal prediction on the ranking:

Bolded names are the confirmed rankings by manga. All the rest are based on gut feeling with no complicated number sequences or formulas, except for Noitora – I think he is #2 based on what he told Telsa. He thinks he’s the strongest Espada but yet he’s not recognised as the strongest, so this probably means he’s #2. And I think Ulquiorra is #1 because he’s so damn intelligent and analytical, and he is Aizen’s pet as well.

Espada means ten blades, so it cant go from 0 to 9, cause the blade count startes at 1 and up to 10
ya ten blade refer to ten espada 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 but when yammy (10) reach full power, his number one fades away and he becomes number 0 espada in other words its 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. which still totals to ten

actually.in the ichigo-uulquiorra fight,ichigo turns into a full fledged espada, so he was able to kill him without taking a single hit,so i think if he does that he would ealsily be able to defeat yammy

Espada is Spanish but the Japanese meaning is used. i.e. it’s the same thing with the Garganta (Romanized Japanese: Garuganta). Garganta meaning “throat” and Garuganta meaning “Hole”… I think…
Espada is, in fact, Spanish. Just about everything about the hollow/espada is Spanish. From their attacks down to the place where their “base” is at. C’mon, Hueco (empty/hollow) Mundo (world). The only obvious Japanese thing about them is their spoken language, with an exception for the references to that which is synonomous with the hollow. (hueco mundo, espada, resurrecion, etc.) The differences between the Spanish and Japanese serves only to emphasize more the differences between the hollow type and the humans and shinigami.

Aizen first made the powerful hollows arrancar then Nel was number 3 and nnoitra was 8, but after Nel was thrown out Aizen gave th vasto lordes another boost which gave this last ranking, also he may have recruited new arrancar in that time as well, maybe grimmjow , stark etc.

Actually, i hate to sound rude, but it does technically go from 0-10. When Yammi is in realese form, he’s 0 instead of 10, and therefore the most powerful. Or something like that.
Espada = 0 through 9 enough of what espada means, it jjust has to do with their being 10 nothing to do with the actual numbers because 1 through 10, whoever said that earlier is just 12 or younger, aka stupid/ignorant. Anyways in my opinion, I remember someone saying the numbers were biological imprints but I actually believe they were tattoos, and not fully based on their strength, because i honestly don’t think that yammy in his unreleased form was weaker than that aaronero whatever guy because that guy was weak as hell or even szayel appollo granz, nor do i think hallibel was anywhere near as strong as ulquiorra, i think she should have switched numbers with ulqiuorra if anything, i think it terms of power ulqiourra, stark, barragan and yammy ranked at the top for me. And on the shinigami side i think the strongest people are the captain commander, his 2 students(forgot their names, but they are the oldest shinigamis besides the old man), ichigo, then the vizards, then komamoura(fox guy forgot how to spell), Anyways I doubt those rankings were based fully on their abilities but their known abilities, considering ulquiorras second form is like bankai and I think yammy did something like that too. Since their second form is like bankai, and no1 knew about ulquiorras second form, it can be said that he was stronger than the 1-3 hollows, but probably not as strong as yammy, but yammy is slow as fuck. SO in other words, I believe that Ulqiorra was the strongest hollow, besides Ichigos hollow form which is stronger than all the espada, and possibly stronger than aizen and all the other characters in bleach, seeing as he takes apart ulqiourra with no effort.

Also, Espada is spanish for SWORD as well as japanese for ten blades. it has a double meaning. most likely Tite Kubo purposely uses both meanings. One because there are ten espada and they each have a sword (Ten Blades) and obviously in spanish espada means sword and each espada has his/her own unique sword. And although Barragan’s number is never shown but since there are 9 other espada all with numbers clearly shown, it can only be assumed that he is the number 2 espada.

Ulquiorra should be the strongest. He is the ONLY Espada to have ever reached 2nd Released Form, and no one, hell, not even Aizen, knows it. Yammy’s second.

hey guys, I personally think Ulquiorra is the strongest for many reasons. As stated before, he is the only one to have a second release. Also, Azien gave him the most responsibility by sending him to the real world and looking after that girl. now of course, maybe he was sent to the “real world” because he had that ability that allowed everyone to watch. The last thing Ulquiorra only lost because Ichigo went to that weird transformation. he was definitely push to his limit and I feel like that no other captain could ever stand up against ulquiorra. this is just my persona opinion.
A Second release doesn’t mean anything. For instance when Uryuu Fights Konjiki Ashisogijizou in Season Two, the Bankai did little to protect its wielder.

Personally Ulquiorra Schiffer is my favorite of the Espada and Yammy Riyalgo is my least favorite but this list is based on their strength.
Yammy Riyalgo is both the strongest and the weakest espada. He is in the list twice so there are still only 10 espada listed. When Yammy is in his Resurreccion form he is the strongest espada, but when he is not in that form he is the weakest. And even though Ulquiorra Schiffer has two resurreccion forms he is still number 4 he is not the strongest even in his 2nd resurreccion form. Ulquiorra Schiffer is not as strong as Tia Harribel in his 2nd resurreccion form because there is a huge difference in the power of each espada.

ichigo is the very strongest in all of bleach because he whoops aziens ass even with the hogyoku inside of azien which makes him CRAZY powerful so powerful that even isshin (ichigos father) had trouble with him. using his “final getsuga tencho” which is his most powerful form EVER. he then uses mugetsu which is a BILLION times more powerful then the getsuga tencho.
