With the coming of March, we first survived the dangerous death of Danbooru, only for the revival of Sagobooru like a few hours after the sudden collapse. However, there is no such collapse in animeblogger.net, as the amount of blogs that has sprouted out from this network is facing a new threat: the threat of being unable to count the amount of new ab.net blogs flowing in.
Hence, the March wave hopes to show you yet another blog that has impressed quietly in its little space where the author writes a bit of everything. He is the author behind Moe Check!, a blog that mixes up editorials with summary episodes of a few shows that he watched. Yes, he likes moe but he is not your typical fanboy, not the kind that will scar the fragment of intelligence. Pretty much the opposite.
What does the blog do?
Firstly, you must be thinking that you must have a fanboy behind the blog. Perhaps, but the writing is definitely sophisticated for this slightly more than one month blog. DKellis is the author of this anime blog and he generally writes editorials about anime, like an editorial about “creating a post in the blog” or something really mundane like “The secret of seating arrangements in anime“. He is also a self professed Tomoyo fan and blogs about Cardcaptor Sakura, even though it is perhaps a rather old anime. He also infrequently blogs about Deltora Quest, Manabi Straight and some other recent series, though he adds in his about page that he does not enjoy writing episodic summaries due to the need of providing screenshots, which he hates.
Critique
I have always said in the IRC channel that I enjoyed his blog quite a bit and it is little wonder why. He has a way of writing that is pretty interesting, with the ability to make you understand yet provides funny standpoints of issues that we never bothered with anime. I mean, honestly, will anyone think of writing a whole discussion on the secret of seating arrangements in anime? That sounds almost insane, yet the editorial is pretty amusing. He also breaks the current mold of new bloggers simply having episode summaries, depending on a mixture of funny humor, serious talk and his love for CCS.
The design of the blog is basic, with the color combinations being pleasing to the eye. I was expecting the blog to have a bit more gadgetries though, such as a nicer banner that might be more impressive. I personally felt that the color of the side bar can definitely be improved, either through size or using a slightly duller tone for the sidebar, that will provide a better contrast with the white background. Even though he says that he does not do screenshots, he still adds graphics and images that reduce the monotony of the text, which is definitely a plus point.
One definite problem that I see in the blog is perhaps the lack of identity as yet. Even though the editorials are well done, I think the lack of identity stems from the design that is very frequently used and it might be hard to differentiate it from the many other anime blogs. Still, I think that the content is excellent and I am one of the few lurkers that go to his blog everyday, hoping to read something new and to improve my own writing as well.
In all, Moe Check! is a pretty fresh blog that provides alternative information, one that I will follow continuously for its good editorials and random ramblings.

It seems that while some blogs are moving away from animeblogger.net, other sites are filling in the holes left from the few who have left. I had one of those sites that moved away. My animeblogger.net site was scott.animeblogger.net now it’s anime.scottfrye.net
I have come across a few posts from Moe Check! but I never paid much attention to it. I will make sure to watch out for his blog.
Dkellis’ posts like the seating arrangement ones are always a highlight for me when I visit the page.
Something I’ll check out, since I always like seeing things out of the “ordinary”. I’m sure he’ll also get a lot of hits from this shout-out.
That editorial on anime seating arrange sounds interesting, I’ll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the heads up ^^
@Scottfrye: Yep, the inflow into ab.net is always consistent and there is always a lot that are filling the spots. Honestly, Moe Check does not have that much of a distinctive blog design but the content is definitely something to look out for. I feel the need sometimes to improve myself by reading his posts.
@Badger: Ya, those are so random, which is why I kept going back to his blog.
@TheBigN: Hmmm, well, if anything, he’s generally out of the ordinary. I always enjoy something different that catches my eye and it’s definitely true that he did ^^
@sele: No problem. I was laughing my head off at the silly yet funny editorial.
Thats something to look forward!it seems hilarious….!
Thanks for the review and shout-out! Yes, ThBigN, I did get a jump of about a couple of hundred (unique) hits after this post. It’s awesome. I can only assume Impz is keeping all those eyeballs in a secret underground vault, pickled in sheer blogging inspiration and brine.
I’m currently open to suggestions for a new theme (please suggest; I don’t think I can stand trawling through the WordPress.org repository of themes any more), or easy-to-understand tutorials on how to edit this one (and its comments all in Spanish) while not breaking the entire site. I’ll probably elaborate on this when I next descend upon the IRC channel, and then procrastinate on making a new banner for several months.
I’ve always thought of myself as a raving moe-obsessed fanboy who can spell in complete sentences, which is an abomination unto all that is right and good on the Internets, and downright unnatural.
@dkellis: Cool, I am glad that I helped….Eyeballs in a secret underground vault ? @_@;;;
I have no clue about themes and the likes, so I cannot help you there. However, asking around might work out, so cheers. ^^
True, spelling helps. And grammar is wonderful.
And Impz has mad pull, obviously. :3
