If you are wondering whether your eyes are having a problem with the images, I assure you that I merely added a bit of accented strokes in photoshop to slightly disguise the characters, even though it is still very clear who they are if you know about the series. This entry is in fact inspired by Exo of Absolute Territory, a new anime blog in animeblogger.net. I found the concept to be decent and decided to find my top nine of the spring season.
To start off, I only chose series that started in the spring season so that they are absolutely new because I will put too many Saiunkoku Monogatari characters in the list for sure. Hence, with that aside, the rankings are in order of love, from the 9th most loved anime female character to the top rated ones. It’s time for Impz’s picks!
Please note that if you really think that my choices are universal, a view on the series will show that harem female leads are not in this list.
9th place: Emily of Kaze no Shoujo Emily
Yes, Emily of the huge forehead. I do not profess to having any forehead fetish but her character is one of the most competitive and stubborn characters, reeking of total feminism. I always like female leads that are headstrong, yet willing to admit to her mistakes when she does something wrong. Emily is also a very compelling confrontational character (had to do the alliteration) in which she literally fights with a girl called Ilse without getting much proper news at all. With that, she just squeezes in at 9th place.
8th place: Sora of Oh Edo Rocket
If there is ever an appearance of a main character in ten minutes involve talking about firing a firecracker that will reach the moon, blinking at you with those starry innocent eyes and offering to share the bed with the guy in the guy’s house right in broad daylight, Sora must be it. The best thing is that she is so naive that the amount of naivety she has can literally hit the moon, if there is ever such a scale. In this historical (of sorts) comedy, Sora does make me laugh with her strange antics, and with that, she gets in on 8th. She looks rather cute too with that strange dot and any good anime watcher will tell you that any form of kimono is just fricking hot.
7th place: Kagami of Lucky Star
In a show that does not make me laugh, Kagami is a pretty strange show considering that Lucky Star is a series that I am probably dropping soon. That said, the sheer presence of Kagami with her rather tsundere and prim and proper mannerisms are making me smile quite a bit. She is also rather innocent in many things and her stubborn behavior in winning anything against anyone, and her clear competitive nature against Izumi just reeks of moe~. She might have been more stellar if I enjoyed the anime but now, she’s merely in this low position. In Izumi’s words, she’s bishounen-moe.
6th place: Himeka of Kamichama Karin
Himeka is from Kamichama Karin, the only worthwhile mahou shoujo show. Seemingly without powers, that lazy voice of the seiyuu for some reason is just so adorable and I cannot even explain why. Add to the fact that she is a total Tomoyo look-a-like when she starts smiling without her eyes showing, and you should be able to understand why she deserves to be in the list. She is also very darn cute and her innocent love for bugs is so lolicious that it’s almost sinful. She can be way higher in the list if only she will transform into a mahou shoujo, but alas, it is not meant to be.
5th place: Mugi of Hitohira
This is perhaps an anime that many visitors of T.H.A.T Anime Blog has not watched and it’s perhaps a huge pity because the female lead of this series is one of my favorite series. Hitohira started slightly earlier compared to other series. I will have ranked her way higher but the graphical quality of Mugi is sorely lacking. Still, Mugi’s weak mental strength just asks for you to protect her, and she is so cute when she stutters with her words. Her nervousness is something that is totally apparent and it begs for irony as we find guys in anime as gutless, and females as total moe bait. She also lives happily in her own creative world while people continue to move on. Yes, I am adoring her a hell lot and she fully deserves with her low confidence self in drama, and the shyness at public to be at the number five spot.
4th place: Barsa of Seirei no Moribito
After a few moe characters, we finally have Barsa, a bodyguard that is summoned to protect a prince possessed by a water spirit. Barsa just screams out total hotness and I always like a woman with a cool weapon. A spear? Even better! She is also soft like a mother toward the person she wants to protect and the loyalty considering that she’s a hired hand is very impressive. I will definitely feel safe if I am protected by her and she also has this strong character that wants to fulfill a promise a long time ago. If that is not mysterious and cool at the same time, I have no clue what is. Barsa’s fighting scene in episode three is just so hot, and her “dying” speech to protect Chagum is so impressive that I find myself a little close to tears.
3rd place: Karin of Kamichama Karin
“I am God!”. This is the command of release into the mahou shoujo mode for Karin, the goddess with powers of thunder in Kamichama Karin. She is hilarious in her treatment of Kazune, and you know that she’s one of the most endearing lolis when she has queer dreams about princes of her dream and strange realizations that she should be a protector. She is also equally bad in academics as well as sports, being the stereotypical mahou shoujo that cannot do anything to save her life. Her deformed modes are equally adorable when she turns all indignant or shocked. In Garten’s words of Memento, this show is way too cute. Reason: Karin, Karin and Karin.
2nd place: Claire of Claymore
Clare of Claymore takes 2nd place and there are quite a few reasons for it. Her silver eyes due to her demonic blood in her body, gives her the name “Silver Sorceress” and her giant sword gave her group the name “Claymore”. She is mysterious and aloof, yet clearly exhibits care to Reki in times of trouble. She is extremely kind and gentle, often putting her body on the line against monsters in order to protect the human race, yet often ostracized for the blood that runs in her. She even has a demon form when her eyes turn dark orange and with that sexy clothing of hers that shows her contours, it is hard to find a reason to dislike her. Oh, I forgot to add that she can act like a hooker if required, and has great fighting skills too.
1st place: Risa of Lovely Complex
The tall partnership of the “Kyoujin Kyoudai”, Risa takes my first place by the sheer fact that she’s one of the most adorable female leads in the funniest shoujo that I have watched for a while. Prone to taunts and laughter due to her height being way taller than normal girls of her age, she is always teased with Atsushi, her partner in crime. She is a virgin and she is desperate and most of all, she is in fact beautiful. That mixture of characteristics makes her a very cute one, and she does have her weak spots when she is touched, and the lingering watery looks when she is touched just screams of moe. She is also someone with a wild line of thought, and her denial of romance with Atsushi is also adorable.
With that, she is in my first position!

Glad to see Mugi and Emily there. For me, Lovely Complex isn’t funny enough and Lucky Star is very funny, but hey, it would be boring if we all agreed. Barsa’s great. But I’d put Konata from Lucky Star first. Totally unique.
