With the spring season at the halfway spot, it is perhaps logical for quite a few people to analyze what they are watching and the progress that those series have been doing. It’s perhaps a time to slow down and wonder if any series is deserving of a drop, or perhaps pick up something else. Me, being the loony one, and considered to be in The Impz School of Delegation thought of something totally off stream as usual.
I realized that I have dropped/not watched many series in the spring season at all, and I often give myself some random excuse not to watch a good show. Do you often give yourself some rubbish excuse that does not make sense and try to use it as a reason why you do not watch a series that is definitely pretty good?
With that in mind, here are some of my decent/lame/crazy excuses for not watching some of the better series in this spring season. You will be surprised that some of the weirdest excuses for not watching a series is the exact thought that comes to my head on why I skipped it. I will leave it to your imagination which ones those are.
Toward The Terra: Since it is old school, I tend to be very superficial with the graphics, even if it is merely an imitation. Despite the graphics, many have mentioned how good it is. As much as it is lauded to be one of the most interesting series out there, I think it is better to wait for it to end before watching the whole series at one shot. It does make sense, yes?
Heroic Age: I have enough GAR in my anime life, I don’t need that much. Seriously, I already have a hot babe swinging huge blades around like nobody’s business so I really don’t need guys swinging them. (Wait, it’s not about manly people swinging their swords around like phallic objects? Darn! Oh, that is Saint Beast?)
Seto no Hanayome: I fear hyperventilation from the sudden “if I do five minutes of the first episode in 3x speed, it will make people laugh” scene. I also have no fetish for water sports due to my fear of water, as much as it seems enticing.
Major 3rd season: Really nothing minor in here for my liking. Or is there?
Nagasarete Airantou: It’s harem, and the harem looks like crap too. Trapped in some blue island or something. To be honest, I have no clue whatsoever on this anime, and I am not interested to find out too.
SOLA: Never watched it, not interested in the sky. Whatever it means in Latin, German, French or Spanish, it really does not matter too much because it smells like harem, maybe not harem, and definitely not up in my harem.
Darker than black: I do not even know why I am not watching it. The music’s good, the anime is not that shabby but…Wait, why am I not watching it still!

Touka Gettan: This is not an excuse but when I don’t get something, I prefer to note that the anime is stupid rather than the truth that I am stupid. Sigh.
Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~: I was actually interested in the series, until…something happened. I think it is the lack of subs or the lack of something. Darn, I am really clueless why I did not even try one episode of this.
Shining Tears Cross Wind: Hey this is not an excuse by the way. I can have more fun replaying Final Fantasy X-2, and that means something for those in the know.
Kaze no Stigma: Loli Tsunderes are cuter. Like Shana.
Idol Master XENOGLOSSIA: Lolis with mecha is not the thing I want. Well, Bokurano is different since it’s also morally wrong. This has nothing morally wrong (and this sounds very darn wrong).
Blue Dragon: It looks like Digimon. GET~. Maybe I will watch it if it is five years ago.
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann: I think it must be the name, or the story, or the graphics, or something. Seriously, it has mecha, right?
Of course, after every such random post, there is often a clincher that shows that it is really a huge excuse not to watch a certain series or dropping it. For this honor, it will be a show that I held on for around two to three episodes until it really frustrates me. This series is initially decent but it lingers on a line that I really hate, causing me great trauma and distress. To prevent myself from feeling such agony, I dropped it.
Koutetsu Sangokushi: I cannot tell who’s male or female.

It’s not like you can watch absolutely everything. I only keep up with the shows I’m really interested in while they are airing, which still amounts to close to 15 series a week >.
you’re missing alot by dropping sola… It has been one of the steals this season…
I was curious about your reason for Koutetsu Sangokushi, because I hadn’t heard about that series. So I watched about 8 minutes from the first episode. And already I understand what you mean
You’re not missing a lot by not watching sola, really, it’s the worst cockblock of a harem ever. No Gigantic Formula? Romeo x Juliet?
you don’t like Toukka Gettan?But it has everything,Including traps(and inecest…..)!
>>Koutetsu Sangokushi: I cannot tell who’s male or female.
Could make the most sense out of the other reasons LOL
“Kaze no Stigma: Loli Tsunderes are cuter. Like Shana.”
Kaze no Stigma: Loli Tsunderes are cuter. Like Shana.
“Kaze no Stigma: Loli Tsunderes are cuter. Like Shana.” Ayano is a sixteen year old girl, how can she be a loli? and of course she doesn’t look like a loli
But yes, there’re some similarities between Shana and Ayano they both piss me off sometimes.
Oh, that’s like 3/4 of the good shows this season. It’s more accurate to say that you PICKED certain shows rather than you dropped these days.
@Kojak: Your thought process seems to be slighlty invalid here, but it’s not like it’s my problem anyway.
A for your excuses, Impz, most of them seem to be… how do you say that? When you don’t even know how to tackle the sentence? When you wouldn’t even recognize it as an excuse if not informed beforehand? Well, they give out that sort of a feeling. And you say some of them are true? Your mind is a total mystery for me…
“Koutetsu Sangokushi: I cannot tell who’s male or female.”
I had the same problem until a friend said, “That’s easy, they’re all males.” XD
Claymore
A must watch!
@Totali: ho ho ho~. That’s very true actually but when there are so many good shows out there that I am missing, I often give myself complex and ridiculous excuses to make myself feel slightly better for dropping it.
@Aeriolewinters: arrrr. I think I did not even drop it. I did not even bother to watch it but I guess i will check reviews when the series end
@Linya: good job ^^;;; That is perhaps the best reason (which is true) that stopped me from watching a series.
@Owen S: Gigantic forumula? Ermm, I don’t need huge phallic ego-boosting mecha for Gar-ness. That’s what it is, yes? Romeo x Juilet really bored me and I dropped it after the third episode.
@Zeuslrae: Maybe after it ends, i think. It is way too confusing for me @_@;;; I do not like to feel stupid or think too much in an anime, and it forced me to. I guess I like some brainless shows sometimes
@Hayase: ho ho ho, desho desho?
@Kojak: hhhaha, i prefer loli shana. Shana is cuter, and she’s deliciously flat-chested.
@Tj han: perhaps, that might be more logical but I did deliberately drop some series for various excuses.
@Santa: HAH HAH. My mind is a total mystery even for me, so I do not blame you instead. Perhaps, a good little sanity pill can help sometimes? Well, honestly, I just feel bad dropping a series or not watching one so i make such silly excuses sometimes. They mostly don’t make much sense.
@Risu: really???? I don’t believe that!!!!
@Mosey: and watched ^^;;
Pfff you don’t need an excuse to drop a series. You don’t feel like watching them, ditch them. I too am dropping Gurren-Lagenn, and I got to deal with certain group of people telling me how I’m making a grave mistake and I should watch more to come to a better assessment.
I can understand you not watching Darker than Black somewhat, it has decent technical merits (although nothing brilliant) but it no longer offers anything special that instantly grab my interest. Although I’m still watching it because I see a glimpse of a story that is more engrossing, but time will tell.
I would have thought you’d drop Lucky * Star. Or have you already @_@
Btw, how serious is these legal threats I’ve been hearing about on fansub viewers in Singapore? Can you still watch them and blog about them?
@gaguri: On the legal threats on fansub viewers in Singapore, I believe that it is rather stormy currently on downloading subs since it is never legal in the first place to download anything that is copyrighted. It is not making huge waves as yet in the national newspapers but nevertheless, quite a few writers as well as anime watchers have stopped watching them.
It is quite a disturbing notion because without the ability to write, there is almost nothing to really discuss on the net, and it will only mean that the majority of anime viewers who are likely to buy the products will be in a total blackout of knowledge and information.
That can be sad, but perhaps I am bringing a point of total depression since viewers in other countries can still blog and Singaporeans can get their information from that alternative source. Nevertheless, despite this ban, they are probably going to hit the people who are likely to actually find interest in the anime in Japan currently, and eventually buy to support it. Anime is a fan-based thing and the big news can only be found on the net.
I always believe that the authorities and the bloggers can work together. If they fear it, get the bloggers to advertise for the right media, and do extensive reviews. Make quality work and make them realize that the real stuff is still much better. I will want to talk more but I believe that it makes no difference as of now.
I think I have been slammed by some of my friends about my strange reaction toward Darker than Black. I find that there is nothing that really captures my attention, and when there are others that makes my heart pumping, I just can’t keep it.
I am still watching Lucky star. The first few episodes really bored me but it does warm up somehow. I do not get it but I am actually enjoying it right now.
Glad that you ask ^^
I watch 8 shows that you have mentioned, and the ones I think you are missing the most are sola and Darker than black. I think it’s too late to start watching sola now. just watch the whole series when it’s over. I too thought it was boring at first, but from episode 5 It really gets better. and darker than black is really interesting. I know sometimes you just can’t like a certain show, and you don’t even know why. if you really can’t watch it, don’t bother. but thinking it’s a 25 episodes show, this is your chance to catch up. it’s now or never.
Seto no Hanayome and Nagasarete Airantou sometimes make me laugh but they are nothing new. I like Gurren-Lagann, but it’s not for everyone. Toward The Terra is well made, but if you have seen a couple of sci-fi shows, you don’t need to watch it. and I watch Idol Master XENOGLOSSIA/Kaze no Stigma just for fun.
So wait for sola to end, and go watch Darker than black now!.
@Impz: Would that be an ironic response by any chance? Yay. I assure you, to sound funny was not my objective.
Awww, you remember a reason to drop it for Major Season 3, but non for Saiunkoku Monogatari Season 2. Darn, that anime truly is an underrated gem, now that no one is subbing season 2. At least I’ll be able to buy season 1, though I doubt Geneon licensed season 2 as well.
disregard the last post I am a moron, you’re one of the few remaining Saimono bloggers ORZ
From that list, I’m still watching Terra e, Darker than Black (although it’s starting to bore me), Touka Gettan (I don’t care about the story – the overall style, the supernatural and the yuri+incest are very very pleasant) and Sangokushi (all characters are male, regardless of the way they act or look, regardless of obsession over flowers, PMS or boobs – unless explicitely otherwise stated; the opening was nice, and despite some crap episodes, it promises to be fairly good, or I hope so).
I’m glad I’m not missing anything of the rest. Blue Dragon is the series I feel most sorry for, since the manga (same author as Death Note and Hikaru no Go, I think) is awesome.
Gurren-Lagann is terrible. I watched ep 1 and didn’t understand the appeal for it whatsoever. Maybe if you’re a 13 year old boy who likes fanservice and mecha, you’ll dig it.
Don’t feel bad about not liking it!
@Santa: oh, i am not being ironic. I do not understand myself sometimes personally ^+^;;; However, some of the reasons are just thought of on the spot, while some are really true.
@Estara: you are not a moron, silly ^^; But yes, I am one of the few bloggers still trying to keep up with Saiunkoku Monogatari Season 2.
@Kirie: I am seriously keen to watch Touka Gettan after it ends after Hashihime noted the complexity of Touka Gettan. However, the rest of the series up there will not be watched by me at all, except toward the terra. I will wait for Darker than black and heroic age to finish before seeing whether i should download it.
@Diedrupo: thanks for the head up, and it does not seem like something that will interest me. Fanservice and mecha at the same time? no thanks.
The biggest problem that I have when starting up a new season of shows is “what should I keep d/ling and is it going to get better/worse?” I have a bunch of random series on my drive that I haven’t gotten around to watching to determine if I like them, and I’ll keep downloading so that I’ll catch up. Bad method, oh well…
I tried a couple episodes of Touka Gettan… but now it’s off my drive for good. I guess it’s supposed to be ass backwards, but like others it really DID give me a headache to watch. I keep seeing all this stuff about Gurren-Lagann (especially since I follow Omni’s blog) but I haven’t pulled myself to watch it. SOLA(or is it ‘sola) picked up in action and some plotline, but the killer would be that they’re doing the two DVD episode thing. Argh. The one series I’m faithful to is Nanoha StrikerS… everything else is on a “when I feel like it” basis
However, I did laugh when I read your reason for Darker than Black. I think exactly the same way about it.
@Tenkaichi: Hmm, that is the biggest problem, and you actually inspire me to think of a random post. So I thank you for it for a start first. That said, I do not usually download shows I do not watch, since I do not like to leech on everything all the time
That said, Touka Gettan’s whole problem for me is simply that it is really a huge headache, but I applaud the courage of the series and will try to watch it soon enough when it ends.
SOLA doing yet another two DVD episode thing? Bah, money cheaters, I refuse to watch it now even more but Nanoha StrikerS was dropped at Episode 7, but I returned to it after realizing the white devil is definitely a devil. GO, NANOHA AND FEITO-CHAN ( i wish i had my 8 year old fate, but 17 is fine too)
Really about the darker than black? Good, I don’t feel silly now ^^
I’m glad you agree with my problem.
There’s no way I can keep up with d/ling too many series (and I hate being such a leech also, at least I’m seeding~), but it’s really nice when I have many shows during the week – that way the wait for the next episode of another show doesn’t seem so long since something is always being released!
The two series that I have on the backburner that I actually feel bad about not watching would be Romeo x Juliet and Bokurano. I suppose I *could* do the marathon thing after the series ends. I’m more prone to doing that with older series – I feel that’s more effective at times if I want to put more seasons of random anime under my belt. Woo marathons~
Don’t get me wrong – there’s something about following a series week by week (like oodles of forum speculation *groan*), but I’m pretty impatient…
But yes… get back on the StrikerS train!
I figure that character development is in order since it’s slated for 26 eps and it’s not like I dislike the new characters – so for me, the series can only get better unless they think of a really broken plot device. When they come out with a StrikerS Fate PVC, it’s mine. All mine. Hopefully she’s not butchered – something about the licensed StrikerS Nanoha figure that’s out doesn’t appeal to me.
well, except for some of the weird quirks of the show, i thought Kaze no Stigma was rather interesting… i just like those mahou type show… magic, or vampire. Blood + was good. Wonder if anyone can recommend something along this line to watch?
Have you heard of Meine Liebe? It’s a bit strange but rather interesting if you can take the slow development of the story. I’m still not quite sure where this anime is heading, but it has sort of a hypnotic effect …
Toward the terra aka terra e : pretty good anime, the animation is a bit different thought, but still good you should give it another chance.
Heroic Age: i like it and personally i can tell you that is like a gundam including mechas, etc and no isn’t guys swinging swords all around >_>.
Seto no Hanayome: It’s like sumomo but better and it has a plot, comedy is still okay ( i don’t laugh with normal stuff lol) so this is another show you should give a chance.
Darker than Black: yea wtf don’t you watch it? is probably my favorite anime of this season, so go watch it.
Wellber no Monogatari: sad but true about the subs, but you could always get the raws (??).
Gurren Lagann: another good mecha serie, you might find it a bit awkward at the beginning but it gets better as it advances.
I recommend sola, darker than black, and kaze no stigma… the others are so-so…
