Your perseverance has touched me, Risa!

Do not click more if you do not want to be spoiled on the thoughts of Episode 9 of Lovely Complex and my dangerous form of worshiping my goddess. I just want to put this out for all who reads this blog. If you are still not watching Lovely Complex, there are perhaps only two main reasons for it. One is that you hate comedy with romance, or either of the genres. Second is that you hate people who talk with a Kansai-ben. If not, I really do not know why you are not watching this.

In this episode, I really feel that the dynamics of the characters are really nice. It is very rarely in a show that I am actually liking all the characters, and wonder how the characters will experience certain incidents, even though the story plot is still somewhat clique. Nevertheless, I do admire Lovely Complex for adding the rejection stage, because it is very rare in an anime show (or any show) to have a romance built up even after the initial rejection.

That to me, is something special, and I really like it since it is the girl that is chasing the guy, breaking some normal stereotypes. The height joke is somewhat irrelevant to me after the first few episodes, and I somewhat feel that it can be stale at times as a joke. Nevertheless, I really like the interactions between Risa and Otani, especially when Otani is currently distressed over Risa even after he had rejected her. He must have felt how much of a jerk he is.

To be honest, Risa’s perseverance is perhaps nothing really great, but for someone so fragile mentally, Risa had really done very well to keep on trying. I mean, how many of us are willing to try again even after being rejected by a friend so shabbily. I really admired her courage to face up to the truth and pursue Otani more. Go, Risa, you have my support (and you can always have my shoulder, I am tall enough).

Heh.

The primary reason why I’m not watching Lovely Complex, even though it should probably be right up my alley, is your second reason: I don’t mind Kansai-ben objectively, but personally, I take it best in small doses. There’s simply too much Kansai-ben in that series, and shallow as it may make me, I can’t watch it for long before feeling oddly irritated.

I’ve somehow managed to missed episode 9 and went directly to episode 10. T_T

I nonetheless think that Risa’s perseverance IS mightily great. I can’t imagine myself doing something like that after being rejected, and I admired that she could. It’s so completely embarrassing, I have new sympathy and admiration for guys who have to ask (and be potentially rejected), and worse, are EXPECTED to do it.

@Dkellis: lol, i actually find kansai-ben quite amusing, since the voice just sounds so different compared to the voices that I usually hear. I guess it’s really somewhat of a comedy relief. Still, it is not an usual voice and that is why I placed it as one of the reasons why people would dislike it.

It’s not shallow to dislike anything because of a certain reason, since you already watch it. That is fair judgment to me.

@Briar: Ya, I so agree. I think if I am placed in her shoes, i will probably give up from the get go. It’s such a painful thought that I do not ever want to be in that context, so ya. Nevertheless, I cannot imagine how much determination she has to get her man. I wish i am otani now T_T

Well,… that’s how much she loves Otani… Can’t blame her, when Otani is being nice, he really is so sweet.

You know I never really considered that the Kansai-ben might put people off.

It doesn’t really get in the way of my enjoyment at least.

I have to agree with everyone Risa really it to be admired for being able to tell him her feelings like that and then continue on even though she’s been rejected.

Hopefully Otani figures out his feelings soon. I really do think deep down he likes her the same way, he’s just slower at figuring it out!

Although I could definetely thump him everytime he’s like “Is that how you treat the boy you like?”

Aaaaaaah whack him on noggin Risa!!!

@Nana: otani is really nice to her at times, but it might just be the impression that Risa has when she sees him. A woman in love always see things differently.

@D.J: I really feel different in the way Otani treats Risa, but I guess for episode 10, he somewhat feels something for Risa. He does not really know what it is, but I think that Otani realizes very soon that there’s something special. In a way, I feel like thumping him as well.

Risa should just stretch her hand on his head, and he cannot move because he is too short. WIN!

I’m not watching this anime because I’m too busy learning how to fansub, now don’t ask me silly questions.

I’ve never seen any episodes of this anime before but I’ve been keeping up with the downloads and from the comments above, I can deduct that Otani is just the typical dense/stupid guy. There’s a lot of those out there.

Risa’s actions, from what I gather above, reminds me of the lines, “The tide is high but I’m holdin’ on. I’m gonna be your number one.”

Btw, you’re not that tall(cough-cough) and just for the heck of it, I’m gonna highlight this line from goshujin-sama.

A woman in love always see things differently.

This is a good show and why no one else is watching –for whatever reason– is a damn shame! Just seeing Risa going through this just breaks my heart (both in the the live action movie and the current anime series).

I want to reach through my computer monitor and strangle Otani for putting Risa through this. Deep down he knows Risa is exactly what he needs. Unfortunately, she is not what he wants. Men are stupid like that.

The let’s-stay-friends/comedic-duo does not cut it in real life or fiction. Once you have crossed the threshold from friends to becoming a potential couple, it’s hard to go back to the way you were.

You either become that couple or go your separate ways.

It’s all or nothing and Risa has decided to go for it all. She has no choice otherwise it will have to be the alternative — and she can’t do that either.

Good luck girl, you’re going to need it because you are walking a very thorny path right now.
