Hey everyone, Keith again. Im also going to be reviewing Lucky Star for everyone so enjoy! Lucky Star feels like Seinfeld to me, it a show about nothing and they over talk about useless topics but it still keeps my interest. This episode is no different; lots of talking. Since there is so much talking im just going to touch on the main points of the episode and all of the amazing anime references and there was a lot this time around.
The episode starts with a lot of talk about the New Year festivals and what they normally do during them. Kona brings up the subjects flying kites, badminton, and proverb cards. Miyuki talks about how she does these activities. Kona steps in and talks on her take on the proverb cards. Yugioh reference anyone? Kagami again is worried about her weight saying that she likes to eat rice cakes. Everyone tells her how it can contribute to weight gain. They continue with the food talk by talking about their favorite new year’s foods. Yuki is back, and Konata asks her how she spent her new year’s she doesn’t remember any of it.
As Kona, Kagami, and Tsukasa get on the bus they talk about how much they dislike table heaters, but how much they liked heated bus seats. Then they go on to talk about the upcoming holiday; Valentine’s Day! In Japan the girls give the chocolate to the boy they like unlike America where it’s vice versa. They all know who they want to give there chocolate too and of course Kona has an online relationship with someone in an online game. Konata heckles Kagami about giving her chocolates to a guy. Tsukasa ends up giving her valentines chocolate to Konata. We see Kagami giving her chocolate to the mystery man but she really gives it to Kona.
At a café everyone is talking about Konas future and all they can think of is her in front of a computer. Konata takes another visit to the store and is label as legendary girl once again! This time the storeowner Souske has more help in trying to coax her into buying other things. Its victory she picked up a DVD from the shelf, but she puts it back just as fast. She grabs another DVD and heads for the cashier, but she’s short 3 yen and there is no sale; Souske defeated again.
Akira is back from last episode where she couldn’t talk. Now she is wearing drills on her head and looking comical at best. Normal Lucky Channel here, just Akira getting mad but this time she wasn’t happy in time for the “bye-ne

I did have a bit of a problem following the episode this week, but in all, the very impressive Kagami and the imagined scene of her acting all tsundere to give a chocolate to a guy is just genius. I never realize much of the anime reference made though, which is a pity.
I need more knowledge of anime. I think.
It’s not really just anime references so much as japanese cultural references in general. Lucky Star is a really hard show to get unless you live in Japan/are Japanese. It’s no wonder that the show is SO popular in Japan but only has a small vocal following outside of Japan (and a lot of haters who don’t understand/appreciate the style of show it is).
