Round 1: Konata Izumi vs. Makoto Kousaka

What if Konata(Lucky Star) and Kousaka(Genshiken) were to play against each other in a video game match? If you’ve watched Lucky Star you should know that Konata is very skilled when it comes to video games as it seems that she never loses a match no matter who it is. Same can be said about Kousaka from Genshiken as he can beat almost anyone at Guilty Gear.
If these two masters of the virtual arena were to be pitted against each other in an all out battle of wits, reflexes, and stamina in any video game known to man, who do you think would win?

This is a tough one to call. Neither contenders have ever (to my knowledge) lost a match. Thus, it’s hard to note of any weaknesses… nor do we know of any strengths. On one hand we have an eccentric, spunky, and young girl who would surprise just about anyone in a fight and on the other hand, we have a more mature and calmer college student.
If I had to choose one person it would probably be Kousaka. He probably has more experience on his side and can probably stay calm in a tight situation.

Kousaka & Konata play on and on and on till Saki-san loses her temper and hits the breaker switch in the basement -
I’d guess Kousaka as well. Konata seems like a very good player, but Kousaka is tournament level I believe. Konata beats opponents, but Kousaka destroys them. I think Kousaka would easily win at least 90% of the games that they played against each other.
On what basis do we judge this match-up? There isn’t enough comparative evidence, really. It ends up being a popularity contest.

It’s too hard to compare these characters who seem to be equal in terms of skill… but I pick Konata just because she is Konata and not Kousaka, who is a guy. Konata is just too cool.
I figure that if it’s something like a few rounds of Guilty Gear or some such, Kousaka would eventually win out.
If it’s PvP in a MMORPG arena, Konata has the advantage.

@ojisan: A very likely scenario… and with Saki’s very aggresive attitude, probably neither Konata or Kousaka would be able to retaliate.
@Kabitzin: I think so too… although, we haven’t seen much of Konata’s playing. We’ve only seen her beating on Kagami and some random guys at the arcade (in the anime). On the other hand, we see Kousaka perfecting guys left and right even if the matches shown in the anime are the same fights played over and over >.>
@Kyokii: In all honesty, it really is just a popularity contest with a minor criteria for judgement. It would be nice if we had more evidence to base our theories on. If and when I do the next match-up, I’ll try to pick two characters with a criteria that has more information to base on.
P.S. Konata IS too cool.
@DKellis: Yeah, it seems that Kousaka is the king at playing Guilty Gear… no idea if he plays MMOs or not.
If this is a battle of otakus, than why would it be about video games? Otakus only recieve that handle when they’re into anime, so otakus should battle over their knowledge of anime. Konata would totally kick Kousaka’s ass in that! We all know that she constantly blabbers about it all day long.

It depends on the game. As someone else said, Konata is more into MMORPGs and dating sims, so if not an online RPG, Kousaka would win.
When it comes to anime knowledge… Konata blabbers about anime all the day, breathes anime, and as an advantage to Kousaka, watches anime since she was little (no pun intended). I think she would win.
But that’s still a tough competition.
You know what? I’d love to see them playing Puyo Puyo against eachother. LOL(Saki and Kagami would be scared to death…)
Kousaka could totally be the guy whose girl character is married to Konata’s guy character. Just a random thought.

@Eric: The term “Otaku” doesn’t necessarily have to deal with anime/manga, although in most cases it is. If I’m not mistaken “otaku” generally refers to people with an obsessive behavior towards a certain media, which can be video games but, more often than not, it refers to anime/manga lovers.

@Xstacy02: Konata plays a wide variety of games (not just eroge). She beat two random dudes and Kagami at a 3D fighting game (I don’t know if it’s a real game or not… it doesn’t look familiar to me) and she also beat Kagami at a quiz game. Not to mention she plays MMOs as well.
@Miyu: Puyo Puyo would be a good match. I have a hard time believing that Konata has never played a Puyo Puyo game.
