For those who have helped in the anime survey, thank you so much. I am currently working on the data, and trying to manipulate, clean the data (for the overseas people who joined in and those who did not complete the study) and then conduct some descriptives and hierarchal multi-linear regression to find some results. You can tell that my effort in this study is not exactly the highest considering I am not that crazy over seeing it from various aspects, but it will be quite useful for everyone.
I also made a new poll about anime merchandise since Luppie (yes, I like calling my anime bloggers funny names such as …wait, Crusader doesn’t even sound cute. Sigh, you suck, Jihader) thinks that anime merchandise kills babies, your family, your life and your mental well being. Hence, enjoy the poll~

I don’t purchase a whole lot of merchandise, but I approve of its existence because merchandise sales fund anime production. And, I probably *would* purchase more merchandise than I do if I didn’t have certain other money-sucking hobbies.

I justify my anime merch purchases by reasoning that the anime soundtracks are good music to program to, which helps me do my job better. Lame, but you gotta have some justification.
I love buying merchandise… depends on what it is though. I allocate a large share of my earnings primarily towards novels, manga, and artbooks. I also collect figures too, but very conservatively. O ya, and I also buy a lot of magazines, which burns my wallet ‘cuz shipping kills.
I guess you can say merchandise collecting is a part of a lifestyle.

many ppl may think that buying this or that may be wasting money but once you start buying you just cant stop buying xD
ever since i started buying anime merchandise and realised that i just cannot feed myself if i buy manga, anime and merchandise all 3 together, i stopped myself to only merchandise that is useable aka organizer/ refils, files and so on and the yearly freaking expensive calender/s. And still i am broke. Merchandises are pure evil. Bootlegs not acceptable LOL..
I can’t find much justification in buying merch.
None of the cash goes to the animators, and only a fraction goes to the original creator.
Sure, the sculptors of figs do earn some dosh, but really, I cannot even justify the stickers, mugs, and whatnot.
And no, buying merch does not support the animation industry. Only the merch industry.
I stopped buying merchandise when I ran out of space to put said merchandise.
Nowadays I restrict myself to wallscrolls and suchlike, since at least they’re flat.
