I agree with you about those OBE’s, they’re really jarring compared to the rest of the scenes.
@rambler: glad that I am not the only person who feels that way. I have been thinking what in the world possessed them to make them this way. Anyway, the show is at least getting confusing (which is always good for such types of supernatural series).
After watching each episode, I almost always completely confused about what’s happening but I still watch it anyway… I’m drawn to the story for some reason.
I agree as well with the OBEs, it’s really weird and seems out of place. The first thing that popped in my head when I first saw them in ep 4 was the oompa-loompa from the recent Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. =D
@Hazy: Ya, ghost hound does have that really strange draw in which you get immensely confused, and yet you still want to watch it. However, I have a feeling that we are perhaps in the minority.
In a way, I cannot even try to relate it to anything. Nevertheless, I do wonder whether they can be affected by humans in that state, especially those of a spiritual inclination. I do wonder as well, who the old man was, since it is not normal for someone to be able to see those mirages.
Is he merely a bystander or perhaps sensing the change in the gates of the underworld or spiritual world?
The surrealism is taken away by the solid imagery the OBE bodies, thus ruining much of the mysterious pseudorealistic atmosphere.
The faces seem too precise and human (as far as showing emotion goes).
@korosora: I do agree that the surrealism is somewhat unbalanced with the strong solid OBE bodies. In my opinion, they could have made it in a way that you do not even see the bodies, somewhat like a first person view of things to make it a bit more artsy and less jarring compared to the rest of the scenes.
That said, I do have some questions looming in my head about the old man and the likes.
In the OP there is a scene where Tarou is flying and his body is transparent, but otherwise normal, so maybe as they learn more about the unseen world how they appear in it will change? I hope so.
@Impz: I’m curious with the old man as well, and he seems a bit suspicious too. Since Miyako saw him a bit earlier on his way up, I thought he might be onto something with regard to the unseen world. Perhaps he will play a bigger role in later episodes.
I wonder what exactly the black giant is and that werid bat-like creature. It probably means something since Tarou has memory of the giant and Makoto mentions he’s read about the bat thingy before. Maybe both are related to the incident years ago.
@Gez: hmm, I guess it is perhaps that they are merely on the surface of this spiritual world. However, I do not think that their appearance might change at all. Nevertheless, I will gladly accept any change to the image rather than that queer chibi OBE body.
@Hazy: My belief is that he is perhaps a roaming spiritual priest that probably wanted to tap into the spiritual presence in the area. He does not seem to be malicious currently, since he says it without any emotions at all. My far-fetch speculation is that he might be the one that will eventually trigger the entrance of the spiritual world into the real world.
…hmm, the spiritual beings stumbled me quite a bit.
