Forget about Chapter 34 and just a quick review on Chapter 34, Yuki behaves very weird and finally Rido came into Cross Academy (As Shiki) to kill Kaname (He would kill those who killed Shizuka, and Shizuka is Rido’s fiancee) with an addition of mysterious words that Yuki will be ‘awaken’ soon. Kaname then takes Yuki away and bites her.
That’s it for the review of Chapter 34. Not much is happening. Let’s go on to Chapter 35.
Don’t kill Zero, please…And please kill Kaname ASAP (Even if he’s Yuki’s brother).
And the caption say lots of words even if it’s only a sentence. Yuki is KANAME’S sister. I hope this story doesn’t get into the incest section like Angel Santuary (Not a big fan of Kaori Yuki’s works. Kaori Yuki, Yuki Cross/Kuran, woah, speaking of puns!) And to start off, Zero ignores Kaien again (I’m starting to pity Kaien these days) and walk past Ichiru without saying a ‘hello; to him. Takuma and Rido (As Shiki) then met Ichiru and talked a bit (See picture above to see what are they talking about). The scene changed to where Chapter 34 last stops, Kaname is still seen sucking Yuki’s blood (For what I observed and the picture below is making me think of Kaname doing something with Yuki which is inappropriate for kiddies to see.) Then Yuki was seen with her body being cracked apart like a broken vase. The blood-sucking part is complete and Kaname continues by biting himself on the wrist and then doing a ‘mouth-to-mouth’ CPR as if it was kissing (Forgot what that’s called. I’m not a medic student but I think I ask my otaku friend or my brother who is in the SJAB.) The things that I’m writing now, it’s like every 5 minutes my mother will come and ask to check her e-mails for mail. I’m losing my concentration every single time she called me to stop. ARG!

Yuki awakes and called Kaname to stop ‘kissing’ her in the lips by kicking him (Way to go, YUKI!) and Kaname wipes out the blood that remains on her mouth and asked her if she remember who Kaname really is. And thanks to my hero Zero he managed to stop the relationship between Yuki and Kaname, point the gun at the both of them and as he was about to shoot Yuki stopped him and declared that Kaname….is her brother.
And now the answers to our questions are solved mostly, as we go back to Kaname and Yuki’s past starting with her remembering her parents’ names, Kuran Juri (Kaname/Yuki’s mother) and Kuran Haruka (Kaname/Yuki’s father). Kaname came home from Takuma’s mansion one snowy night 10 years ago and Yuki was happy to see him coming back. Her world then was her house basement, no windows and a door. (I’m starting to think that her parents are being overprotective and not taking Yuki to expose reality.) Juri then asked Kaname about the visit in Takuma’s house and if Takuma to have a great influence on Kaname which I think he didn’t. (Funny pictures) Juri continues teasing Kaname and Yuki cried (You should see her expression, makes me laugh) as her mother continues to be all loving at Kaname and Yuki but Kaname had other plans.
And the flower thing when everyone in Cross Academy came back after the vacation, it was reminded here on the picture above. And I finally know the reason why Yuki must not go up to reality (I still can’t forgive her parents.) The senate recently at that time wanted to use the pureblood’s for the value of their existence and the power of their blood. They could oppose, but Yuki at that time is still young and most likely won’t do anything with Yuki. Her father think he’s being selfish (He’s selfish, just like Kaname, but I like his father more than him) but thinking it’s for the sake of Yuki, Kaname continues to protect Yuki. Later Yuki told Kaname that she had a dream of a person with eyes of different colors but one day…
The good days have ended, and Yuki is taken to be Rido’s ‘sacrifice’ (Still not figured out what this sacrifice means but all I know that he’s taking Yuki away to do something bad) and when Yuki/Kaname’s parents came to their rescue, Yuki was with Kaname feeling scared, but too bad their father died just like that and Kaname’s mother came after a few minutes to say her last words, telling Kaname to protect Yuki if something happens to her. Yuki’s mother then takes Yuki away and Kaname went to kill Rido (My assumption, that is.) Taking Yuki to another room, she takes her memories on vampires away and then killed.
It then goes back to the present, and for this chapter, our past questions are being answered here but yet there are a few new questions appearing in this chapter.
1. What does Kaname means when he said “I would have been happier if I was born as her real older brother? Does it means that Yuki is adopted twice, first by the Kurans and then Kaien later?
2. At the last pages of VK Chapter 35, how does Yuki’s mother get killed when they are stuck in a room and how was she able to be at the snowy place in the first chapter?
3. Is Yuki really a vampire? If so, how come I don’t see fangs or anything else that she is a vampire? Perhaps she is a special type of vampire?

Okay, after reading chapter 36, Kaname and Yuuki are actual siblings. But what I don’t get is why did Kaname say that line on chapter 35 if their siblings…Anyway you see the fangs on Yuuki’s teeth in this chapter and apparently its not uncommon for pureblood siblings to marry each other(mosly because they think that their blood is to valuable for other vampires and/or humans…>_>)their parents were actually siblings as well…(so much for no incest). Oh, Kuran Juuri-sama actually died because she gave up her life to put the spell on Yuuki so she would forget everything. But I really don’t understand something… In the first chapter where the little scene of where Kaname saved Yuuki, he asked her who she was or somthing like that… Because he wanted to see if she remembered anything? I dunno >.

Her mother wasn’t killed. By sealing her memories, it cost her own life to do so. That’s why she said that she wouldn’t be able to stand by her anymore. Because that ability means to self sacrifice.
That and Yuuki and Kaname are supposed to be betrothed o.o
Also about those incest claims…. Yuuki’s parents were brother and sister… So uh yeah… for pure bloods is common for that kind of thing to happen. Also, its not unlike royalty in our world today. They used to marry cousins and sisters off, just to keep the bloodline royal.
And yes, Kaname loves her romantically. I still think there will be a Kaname/Yuuki pairing, but there is also an equal chance at Yuuki/Zero and I wouldn’t mind either really.
I don’t know what Kaname meant by real brother, but I think Rido said “fake heir” because he is pissed Kaname is the heir and is claiming he is the true heir.

First of all, I don’t believe Kaname is capable of saying absolute truths where Yuuki is concerned. And seeing as it was Zero whom he told this little secret to, it makes it more suspect. I think there’s a good chance he merely said “I would have been happier if I was born as her real older brother” to throw off Zero from thinking he could have Yuuki for himself. Because saying that meant he was not giving up his pursuit of a real romantic relationship with his sister.
Notice how Kaname was not bothered by the fact that they were siblings? Normally, when he’s hiding something he would dodge the subject as much as possible and distract Yuuki from pursuing the truth but this time he’s only too accepting of the fact that yes, we are siblings and yes, incest is natural because our parents were once like this too. Wouldn’t it be more beneficial for him to say the truth to Yuuki now seeing as she still has doubts on whether or not she wants to be with him? Still, he doesn’t say it probably because there’s nothing to say. I believe they are real siblings or half-siblings at best. But to not be totally related to each other? I’m not buying that.
I’m all for Zero and Yuuki in the end simply because I’m always rooting for the underdog. Kaname has everything going for him, to get the girl in the end, would just be too perfect and typical for a shoujo manga.

yes incest is bad. in today’s modern day standards that is. but in this manga where vampires are involved I don’t think human rules and taboos apply to them. Also if I may add, the Royal families of Egypt commit incest to preserve the royalty of their blood and to keep the concentration of power within the family. a brother cannot be a pharaoh if he does not marry his sister, since the royal blood runs through the females and not the males of the family. and also, what about Adam and Eve? since they were the first humans on earth, how do you think the population grew? they had children, and their children had children. which only means brothers and sisters married and built a family.
Yeah, it may be creepy for you to marry your brother or sister, but in actuality our attitude towards incest is influenced by the society n which we belong.
Vampire Knight is an interesting story with a dark twist. I don’t care who Yuuki will end up with. I like Zero, But Kaname is my favorite. thank you.
I have to agree with jalil, in fact with everything in that statement including the fact that Kaname is my favorite too. I hope that the story goes as was planned with out any interference from parents who want the author to do their parental responsibilities. If as a parent you don’t like the subject matter than it is your responsibility, not the author’s, to not allow your child to read the material, but consider this if you take real life things away from your children and raise them in a bubble the only thing you are doing is creating a generation of children who can’t form an opinion or logical conclusion based on experience or knowledge that they have obtained. I think you need to fear that scenario more than whether or not they know the truth about this world. oh yeah and if you don’t want them to read about incests you better take them out of history class now!!!
I don’t think Kaname is Yuki’s real brother, if not he couldn’t have said that he would be happier if he was born as her true brother, implying that he IS not her true brother. Yet when the other vampires knew of yuki’s true identity as a child of the Kuran family and when someone (either wild or idol, couldn’t remember)expressed his shock at kaname’s wish to get married to his sister, Kaname took it in his stride and said that there’s nothing wrong with pure bloods marrying within the family since it’s customary. Perhaps he just didn’t want to tell the rest about his real background and his true relationship with Yuki that’s why he played along with them?
My guess is that Kaname is not born as Yuki’s true brother, but has been raised as one for some unknown reason. If this story turns out to be incest since despite them saying how common it is for siblings of pure blood families to marry one another, it still is incest and i couldn’t help it but think that Matsuri Hino would lose some fans along the way if the true identity of Kaname turns out to be really Yuki’s blood and flesh brother. =(
Well, I must say, I’ve read all the posts and I love all the ideas. First I will say that I just found this manga online yesterday and thought it would be cool to read. I read the first few pages and was HOOKED!! So…I read all 37 chapters in 1 night. My thoughts as I read along…
In the 1st chap when you see Zero grab Kaname’s hand off Yuki, I went, “Triangle”!! Next, I was scocked when Zero wasn’t said to be in the Night class as he looked like a vamp to me with the eyes, hair, so on. Come to find out, he IS a vamp (haHA moment. KNEW it!). Next, I love the scene where we get to see the weapons the ‘Prefects’ use…Zero whips out an awsome hand gun on a sweet chain (and he looks like he knows how to use it *sigh*) and then we see Yuki whip out…a stick? I laughed so hard my sides hurt. What’s whith THAT?!?
I thought right off the bat that Yuki and Kaname looked very much alike with the hair and the eyes, so not shocked there, although I DO think they’re only blood related, but not bro & sis. I think the relationship between Zero and Yuki is sweet in it’s own way. The memories of her washing him the night he came to live with them is the best, although my heart melted when we see the one where she’s sick in bed and she opened the door to find Zero sitting there all night, AAWWWWW!!!
I’m not a Kaname hater, though I’m not fond of the way he manipulates Yuki into being his lover, all his lies that he swears are for her own good or the fact that seems to enjoy holding his false power over the heads of others. He does seem to love her, though I think in the end he’ll want Yuki to be happy no matter who she ends up with.
Call me crazy but I seem to feel a point coming where Zero and Kaname join to fight for Yuki’s life. Zero is pissed at her right now for being a pureblood, but lets face it. Yuki stayed by his side when he needed her most, giving him blood even though it hurt her to do so. He’ll come to the realization that he’d never be able to forgive himself if he just lets her go after all she’s done for him. He’s just in shock. He’ll get over it. I also think Yuki will come back to Zero, she still wants to save him.
Well, that’s my thoughts. I’m just thrilled I found a place to talk about VK and now I find out the anime is coming out in April…YEAH!!! So when do you think it’ll be out with eng subs???
Just a few things I forgot.
Two very similar statements made by two very different people, with entirely different meanings. In an earlier chapter, when faced with the question from a fellow vamp as to why Kaname didn’t just finish off Zero and get it over with, Kaname replied, “Because I would lose her,(Yuki) of course.” This tells us that Kaname is acutely awear of the bond between Zero and Yuki and thus will hold himself in check around Zero for fear of Yuki leaving him if he were to hurt a close friend of hers. On the flip side; when a similar question is put to Zero when Kaname asks him why he doesn’t just finish him (Kaname) off, Zero replied, “Because it would hurt Yuki.” Meaning he could never bring himself to hurt her in any way, even if it ment getting rid of someone he hates. Two similar statments with different meanings….While Kaname’s reasons are completely selfish in the fact that he just doesn’t want to give her up, Zero’s actions are completely selfless in that he’d rather deal with Kaname for the rest of his life than to hurt Yuki, whom he loves. Kaname is only “allowing Zero to live”, as he himself said, to manipulate Yuki’s feelings, hoping she’ll she him as a good vamp for letting Zero live. Just a thought.
Another thing I thought I might add….I see a lot of people are asking a lot of questions, ‘why did Kaname want Zero to drink his blood?’, ‘who’s the real heir?’, ‘why would Kaname just come out and tell Zero he wished he was her real brother?’…stuff like that. I’ll give you all a hint. When reading this manga, think of in terms of a game of JEOPARDY! Meaning???? We were given the answers in early chapters to the questions that would be formed in later chapters. We got the asnswers before we even knew what the questions would be. The artist was very clever in hiding the clues in flashbacks, early chapters and scenes that don’t seem like they hold any real info to the story when in fact, they are some of the most telling scenes in the whole tale. We’ve already been told why Kaname would want Zero to drink his blood, though you didn’t know it at the time. We already know who the heir is. The answers are already there for you, you just have to look deeper into the statments being made, the glances cast, the scenes, the flasbacks…And for many of us wondering what this manga story really is, the artist gave us that answer as well, before we probably even asked that particular question. Kaname said it himself, “This is all one big game.” A clever game of JEOPARDY!

kaname is not her real brother .He is the ancestor of the Kurans and is revived by Rido.
Yuki and Kaname are siblings in the basis of growing up in the same family. Their parents are Haruka and Juuri Kuran who are, in fact, siblings. but Kaname is really the ancestor of the Kuran clan. he was revived by Rido Kuran, Haruka and Juuri’s other brother. so technically, they aren’t siblings. the fact that they look alike may be because of that look (brown hair and eyes) run in the kuran bloodline.
It has been revealed in Chapter 38 that Haruka and Juuri Kuran had a son, but his soul was killed by Rido Kuran and Kaname’s soul put into his body. Kaname was the ancestor of the Kuran Family thus resurrected by Rido from the grave, who became his ‘master’ making him unable to kill Rido.
i think, kaname is not really the first born of haruka and juuri…I think he was ‘adopted’ to protect yuuki from the threat of Kuran Rido…kaname maybe was from other pureblood family and was tasked to protect yuuki from any danger that is threatening her, which actually happened, that caused the death of their parents.
Yuuki’s mother got killed maybe because of the’ritual’ of taking her daughter’s vampire life and memory. So that is why yuuki doesn’t have the vampire characteristics prior to her ‘awakening’.
i love Kaname Kuran, and if i just have the power to choose between Zero and Kaname to be the lover of Yuuki, i would choose Kaname ( no thinking twice). The love he showed towads Yuuki is unselfish. He waited for ten agonizing years. Looking after Yuuki from afar. Protecting her even if his blood is tainted with blood. Accepting her even though she holds an attachment to Zero.
I love Kaname and Yuuki! So i hope that they live till the end of this manga together, so as to keep the peace between the world of vampires and humans.
So, Kaname is a resurrected soul of the ancestor of the kuran clan…That is why he holds this certain power…So yuuki and kaname isn’t sibling afterall..wee!!!
Rido killed kuran’s first born son? I’m not wondering, since i think that Rido is actually jealous of Haruka and Juuri. Because it seems that Rido also likes Juuri, but since juuri has chosen haruka over him this really pestered him off…

then one and a half decade later, being kepted immortal by his power and the bloody rose, Zero finds his lover(as she reminded him of yuki) only to find out she is a pure blood and in fact the daughter of yuki and kaname. sorry i forgot her name…
so, a new arc begins, and it will be focused on the reconciliation of yuki’s daughter and zero (and thats about all i know up to…)

What’s with people thinking that this is incest when it is not I mean come on if u actually pay attention Kuran is not actually her brother but the first Kuran(her ancestor) from many years ago, I guess that means they still ahve to the same blood but it’s not fully true cause they are kinda blood sucking creatures of the night so Human rules and regualations don’t really apply here. Okay. ive read what people say about this and i understood. To tell you the truth i liked the series before he became her brother and the same thing happened over and over again in their family. Its pretty gross. It does not mean this is a bad book! But its a pretty gross and has the morals of the twilight ”saga”. But its not a bad series theres worse. Like Negima. This series makes little sense and most of the stuff in it contradict itself. I started reading it because most shojo is just ridicules and this is one of them. I dont wish to be mean i really dont but this is not a story for kids and personally i dont agree with incest. I dont understand why she cant be with zero. but then i learned she cant be with Zero the same reason Bella cant be with Jacob… They are both idiots.

Kaname is Yukis anscertor, Yukis real brother was sacrificed so that Rido could being Kanames soul back to life. So yeah technically their not really siblings, their just really far relatives.

I gotta say this twist completely turned me off. Kaname wasn’t right for her in the first place and now he is her brother to add on to it?! I don’t care if he’s a distant relative through his soul, but his body is still her brother’s.. Zero should be the one she sticks with, he doesn’t treat her like a child nor is he a borderline pedophile like Kaname.. The way he’s been creeping on Yuuki since she was a little girl is disgusting, and I honestly don’t see the appeal he has…
