Kimiaru Episode 4- Obligatory Beach Episode=Victory

Only you can prevent unnecessary plot advancement

This post is late for a few reasons- the subs came out a couple of days after they normally do, the Giants won the Super Bowl and I got wasted, and my internet connection has been catastrophically malfunctioning over the past few days. In light of these issues I’m not going to post a detailed summary but just my impressions with light summary for this week’s episode. Theoretically my internet will be fixed next week and I’ll be able to make a proper post.

Impressions:

The gist of the plot this week is that Ren makes a couple of butler mistakes (tea too hot, dirt on a shoe) and it is decided he will go to a special butler training on an island. The whole crew comes along as a vacation to lounge around on the beach. They wasted no time here with a beach episode, and well, I applaud them for it because all the ladies looked pretty delicious in those swimsuits. Now of course Shinra had to hide Miyu’s swimsuit and make her wear a school swimsuit and a swim ring. Now personally I don’t get the appeal of those things, maybe it’s because I’m not a lolicon like Impz, and maybe it’s because I didn’t grow up going to a Japanese school and became attached to such swim wear. Frankly I think they generally look ugly and would much prefer women to be wearing bikinis. But the show is aiming to both appeal to and make fun of fetishes, and no loli is complete without a school swimsuit.

Ren is meanwhile spirited away to the butler training lair (lol) to improve his butlering skills. In another nod to Hayate no Gotoku!, the three families listed outside the lair who used it were Kuonji (the family he works for), Kuki (Ageha’s family), and Sanzenin (Nagi from the aforementioned butler anime). I find it amusing because if the show didn’t at least acknowledge the fact that Hayate exists it is much easier for people to flame it for copying. However, I think by now people realize how different the two shows are and those comparisons are being brought up less and less. I think the butler training in Hayate was at a church anyways, but I can’t say I remember 100%. I also found it amusing that the first thing the Colonel taught him was how to make proper tea, haha. One would think defending your master or cleaning the house properly would be job #1, but the perfect tea is apparently extremely important to the Colonel. And for his insolence Ren gets a forehead poke that sends him flying, awesome.

We had the seedy casino action that Benisu was participating in, which didn’t really excite me. Her character is not one that appeals to me that much when compared to the other ladies in the show, so I find her story (which will continue next week) to be kind of meh. Although she did make what looked like a Kaiji face so I give her points for that. I much preferred Shinra and Miyu getting drunk and sleeping together naked, that was much more entertaining. Kojuuro and Ageha made an appearance as well, and Ageha kept up her relentless beating and berating of the guy, who seems to love it ever so much.

Eventually, after surviving a sexual proposition and teasing from Shinra, Ren is able to go back and make the perfect tea and win the approval of Ageha and the Colonel. However, the aforementioned Benisu and Natase have gone missing at the casino, and he must go and rescue them. Overall the episode was enjoyable, although not quite as laugh out loud funny as the first couple. I don’t know what this silly plot business is doing in my ecchi anime, namely Benisu’s escapades and her past to be looked at next episode. Please, more Shinra debauchery, less plot and drama! Regardless, once again a good watch and I’ll hopefully see you next week.

Next Episode:
Continuation of this episode where we learn about Benisu’s past.

MANLY TEA made this episode 1000% better than all Kimiaru episodes preceding or following it.
