Here’s a quick news update for those who read the FR: I got so pissed at Bleach and Narutard this week that I didn’t even bother writing a Friday Ramble…would’ve been more or a Friday Whine ‘n’ Complain. Even though it just started, there will be no FR during the month of April. I’m devoting all of my time April to check out the new shows, sort out my subbers, find (subbed) air dates, and figure out how I’m going to handle the series I’ll be covering. Also, if things get weekend heavy, I may change the FR to a different day. Who knows? We’ll have to wait for April to see. Also, as far as what would have been the final one for this month, it won’t be showing on account of no more Bleach until April 9th, and no more Naruto until April 3rd (bastards…well, not so much you Naruto). I’ll be posting my first ONE-Shot War sometime this week instead, and then…Spring 2008!
Speaking of Spring 2008, that’s what this post is all about! I’ve been checking every 2-3 days for new trailers and PVs and just general media on the animes debuting in April, and there’s finally enough promotional material out to make a decent “visual preview” post. This includes the “best” pv/trailer I could find for each anime (best = contains animated footage from the anime) as well as the updated air dates. Dates and times are Japanese based and taken from the FansubWiki. I only included new animes series, not sequels (with the exception of Code Geass R2 so you’d all STFU), and I included a quick thought of mine pertaining to each trailer. Nothing crazy, just a little something to, as always, show you I *kinda* care.
Videos and comments are linked/embeded within the spoiler tags under the titles (you can figure it out!). I invite the other THAT bloggers to post their two cents, just make sure you don’t edit anything in the Visual Editor or you’ll f*** stuff up (I found out the hard way).
Rieuzedx: I’ve already seen Macross F ep01, and as Crusader can tell you it’s badass. No need to talk about this one.
Extrange: NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NI HAO NYAN. We already saw the first ep and it totally rocks. The trailer also shows the kind of soundtrack to be expected ( Macross series always paid alot of attention on that detail, since all the plots had music as part of it.)
Rieuzedx: Shin’ichiro!? Getting some mad True Tears vibes off of some of those facial expressions (not to mention Mr. Male’s Hair cut…). That being said, we finally get a vid with some actual footage from the anime, and I’ve got to say, it’s not looking too bad. Music sounds like the typical adventuring fare and I’m still not sure how I feel about planes…but it’s pretty.
Extrange: Hmm, character design isn’t the best, music is kinda nice and who the hell pilots a biplane without using googles???
Rieuzedx: Uhhhh…the “bounce” quality seems sub-par? I enjoy the facial expressions, and it’s very easy to see what kind of show this is gonna be. Can’t figure it out? Watch the first oh, I don’t know…5 seconds again?
Extrange: Ohhh, I can already hear the screams of despair of the paladins against fanservice. But I will watch it anyway, boob groping was always a good reason to see an anime.
Rieuzedx: Kodomo no Jikan meets Persona…Kure-nai is their visual offspring. I’m not too keen on the art style here, and the first black-haired chick you see looks like she got hit in the side of the face with a sledgehammer…I like the second musical track though.
Extrange: Hmm, I was expecting more for this trailer. It reveals so little on how the show will be, and only one sneak pic of the loli… Also the mellow soundtrack doesn’t favour the plot which should mix action with some drama.
Rieuzedx: Hey! I didn’t know Al from FMA was in this anime! Sweet! I’d been waiting ages to get some actual anime footage for this show. It finally comes out, and other than the cameo by Al in the first couple of seconds, there’s nothing too remarkable. That dinosaur looks kinda dumb though.
Extrange: I get a Final Fantasy vibe out of this trailer, mixed with some Brave Story. Anyway I’m a sucker for FF’ish soundtracks….
Rieuzedx: Furries…tails…(secretly wants to watch this)
Extrange: Riex, you furrycon (actually, I think it was me that corrupted you..). The trailer is missing the ecchi parts on purpose or the producers have toned it down to avoid the Anti-fanservice paladins..and I want my half naked fox spirit!
Rieuzedx: What!? Someone does 3D right for once!!! This show looks like it’ll have mega-pretty 3D…so I’ll be watching it. I’d like to steal that chill techno song as well.
Extrange: Best thing: nice Anbience Techno song. Worst thing: sucky 3d. Really, Gonzo should be forbidden from touching any 3d editing program, or change their staff cause sincerely…..they suck.
Rieuzedx: Why does the production value for this anime seem so high? I wasn’t expecting that when I watched this trailer. Anyway, I’m in love with the animation and the character designs/expressions. The music can go screw itself.
Extrange: Hayate Combat Butler meets …heck I don’t even know what else to compare to. The song is weird but the animation style seems to be in touch with the original manga. and GOD, if that Meido Panty Shot at 0:44 won’t go down as the Best Pantyshot ever…
Rieuzedx: I’m pretty excited about this type of art style (shoujo-ish) for this type of show (shounen). It’s something you don’t typically see, and that’s making it standout in my eyes. From the 5 seconds or so that you get to see some fighting, it looks like the fight scenes are going to be well animated…wouldn’t expect anything less from J.C. Staff.
Extrange: Too bad it doesn’t show more.. but the soundtrack kinda hints for a deeper plot than Naruto. YES , I SAID IT! This will be way better than Naruto!
Rieuzedx: Part of the reason I want to blog this anime is because of the art style. There’s a short “action” sequence near the beginning that seems promising, and I especially like the last scene with the flying fox. Pretty pretty. Not sure about the female voice though…
Rieuzedx: OMFG!!!!! OMFG!!!!! OMFG!!!!! (wait til the post on the first episode for my insane ranting)
Extrange: I lack words to describe the perfection of this trailer. The cast of seiyuu’s is impressively good and they perfectly express the presonalities of the characters, ranging from the tsun Maka, the gar Soul or even the Naruto-ish Black Star. as you can also see, the animation depicts with perfection the wacky world of Soul Eater (you got to love that badass sun and moon.) And it’s BONES who’s producing it, the only studion I would trust to make a Shounen adaptation….Er haven’t I used the word “perfection”too many times on this rant?
Rieuzedx: No actual animation, but you get a few stills from the anime showing the design of the characters. I like the direction they’re headed in so far, and that background song ain’t bad either.
Extrange: Even if it’s only stills, they have proven me one thing: they have improved the style of the original manga; which i confess, isn’t what I fancy most. The song depicted on the trailer is also good, which gives me high hopes for the anime.
Rieuzedx: I’m still incredibly iffy on the visuals for this anime. That duck helmet just exudes hawtness though.
Extrange: Somehow, the trailer hints me for Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell. Since it seems the plot will be the big factor in this anime, these images doesn’t help much for a preview comment.
Rieuzedx: Hey look, you can kinda see the anime in those tiny windows within windows. The only things that stood out to me here were the kung-fu fighting @ 28 seconds and the water explosions @ 50 seconds.
Extrange: Now that’s how you do 3d elements in anime! They are so good that you will barely notice them. Learn from this, Gonzo.
Rieuzedx: This show is secretly about the minions of planets from the game Katamari Damacy who have a habit of listening to interesting music.
Extrange: Interesting kawaii anine. Maybe the candidate for this season’s Moe anime?

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki (watch it with the sound off) Show ▼
Rieuzedx: This looks retarded, but I still want to watch it. Reminds me of this one anime where a guy gets stranded on an island full of women…
Extrange: Tha anime is called Nagasarete Airantou, Riex. And trust me, it isn’t the same. Nikki is more of a mix of Haruhi with FlCl and a dash of Excel Sage: in the end, wacky loli neko alien girl who will save the world…or it was to conquer it?
Ah at last, the up coming spring season with videos embedded through javascript, you programming bastard I <3 it. (even though you prolly did it through the wordpress API) I’ll be expecting to watch tons of those to satisfy my craving of 1337 hero character development. GAR away
Nice post like you always do (Don’t expect comments on every post you make, I too lazy to do it ^^).
Anyway, I didn’t find anything that would caught my eyes yet, unless you think about To-Love-Ru’s bounciness (Is this an actual word?) and Kanokon’s fox-girl (I didn’t knew about it yet, and I love Moe stuff, so just STFU).
Whoa, this ended up way bigger than the comment I thought I would do…
Oh God that front pic scared me. If that was what the anime version of Soul Eater was going to look like – poor Maka. Fortunatly, the trailer looks like the anime might actually capture the frenitic craziness of the manga, including Maka’s cute bad-assness. Cool.
(kawaii butt-kickingness?)
Kanokan looks like it has captured the flavor of the manga – cool again.
Gonna go look for info on Wagaya no Oinari-sama – the “morphing” of the shape-shifting fox/humans triggered a final “cool” reaction.
And To-Luv_Ru. The manga is cotton candy silliness with tons of ecchiness. Great fun, but the type of fun that is really hard to transfer to anime. (Rosario Vampire is sadly illustrating that – fun manga, lousy anime). To-Luvs trailer seems to indicate that the ecchiness is toned way down – so what’s left? No coolness reaction here, not even luke-warm. Pity. Seeing Yami a.k.a. “Golden Darkness” properly animated in an action sequence would be a treat, but the feel I get from the trailer isn’t promising. Ah well, we always have the manga.
This is proof that the world hates me. Soul Eater and Vampire Knight on the same day. How on earth am I supposed to handle 1+ hour per download of those episodes on the same day weekly?
-.-Y Holy shiat, Riex. I was talking to Impz just yesterday about doing a trailers post. A trap, javascript coder and a good writer? We must have pleased some anime fan god…
Give me some minutes and I’ll add my views on each trailer.
just watched vampire night one, nice designs must say.. and not a bad song either. Another anime I am gonna watch this season… because I heard the manga is good
