Nabari no Ou Episode 01

nab01sp.jpg

More like Nabari no PIMP. That’s right, the PIMP of Nabari. Let’s just go ahead and start this out right by saying that I am automatically going to be biased in every way possible in regards to this show. Hell, the ED wasn’t anything special, but I’m gonna say it rocked anyway. If that doesn’t give you an idea of what’s ahead, then you’re out of luck.

Instead of the whole sub-section shebang, I’m just going to give a general overview of what I thought ramble and rant about the first episode of the show.

nabg0101.jpg

I still haven’t been able to adjust to females doing male voices yet (you don’t notice it as much when you’re reading subtitles as opposed to watching the raws), but I’ve actually got no complaints for Narabai’s auditory gender-bender. What the heck am I talking about? The main character, Miharu Rokujo (a male), is voiced by Rie Kugimiya (a female), who also voiced Shana in another production by J.C Staff, Shakugan no Shana. Despite the male/female difference, I thought the voice-acting was pulled off quite well. Kugimiya is joined by some other noteworthy talent that I don’t feel like going into detail about. The OP for Nabari…was craziness…I LOVED it, especially when it got to the chorus.

The art style is fantastic. The characters are very well done (can’t expect any less from J.C.Staff) and designed to my liking. I did notice that a lot of the backdrops in the episode were still-shots that looked like they had been painted…at first glance you think “cheap”, but after a few seconds of adjusting to it, it just seems to add to the look of the show. The fight scenes…OMG THE FIGHT SCENES…absolutely great. Like…pre-Chonin exam Naruto, good-day-Bleach, or omgtheyareactuallyfighting Shakugan no Shana good. Pretty…

There aren’t any subs out yet, so I won’t attempt to go into detail about who did what to who’s mother or where Ninja-boy gets his magical flower-powers from, but just know, without a doubt I WILL be blogging this. WILL. *exit fanboy…*

Extrange Small Remark: Fscking better than Naruto. *draws out the katana to fence off any incoming Narutard.*

    Samurai girl is already in the first episode? Its going fast.o_o Looks good. Im a JCSTAFF fangirl and I secretly am a fan of Rie Kugimiya so this appealed to me. Though that first picture in your post sorta made me bleh at how funky it was drawn. Oh well.

    Ever since Honey & Clover (which moved me immensely,) I haven’t been able to appreciate anything by JC staff nearly as much. But ninjas are always welcome if the fight scenes are much cooler than “its-already-a-success-so-why-bother-making-it-any-good” naruto. Alright, your enthusiasm is rubbing off a little. Please be good, nabari no Pimplord.

    w00t!

    My prayers hear answer. I can’t lie, the idea of Rie Kugimiya voicing the male lead bothers me, but I’m still looking forward to this.

    I’m actually looking forward to this. Even though it has to do with ninjas, I definitely don’t expect it to be like Naruto. This of course will be much better :3. Besides, I find it best to associate everything ninja to Ninja Gaiden rather than Naruto.

    I like old naruto the way I used to love old ninja gaiden (in the 80′s on the nes) and the hate new naruto the same way I hate new ninja gaiden. Perhaps all ninja themed creative works are fated to start awesome, and then degenerate tragically? Happened to ninja scroll, too. I think I accidentally stumbled on one of the scientific laws that guides the universe.

    The blonde girl wasn’t in the first episode; I think the screencap is from the OP, right, Rieuzedx? She will be introduced in the next episode.

    I didn’t expect to like the anime; the first half of the anime is full of rather slapstick humor with the really, really fake looking backdrop that Rieuzedx mentioned. But then, the ninjas came in, and suddenly the anime is so addictive. Boy, those fight scenes are seriously kick ass. And the faces the characters make suddenly isn’t as abrupt and silly as before. I’m very much looking forward to the next episode.

    Here we go:

    @alym
    Can’t wait for you to see the first episode, it’s badass.

    @L-Chan
    You don’t actually get to hear him too much in this episode. But, he’s evil, and I’m sure we’ll get to here a nice evil speech soon enough.

    @Kona
    Samurai chick is in the NEXT episode. I put that pic up there because I LIKE the funky way that it’s drawn. To each his/her own though.

    @D4yt1me
    You make valid points about both Naruto and Ninja Scroll…but eventually there has to come a time when someone gets it right…right?

    @Zeroblade
    Your wish, granted. (in episode 2)

    @Calaveth & Ruk
    Be sure to stay tuned here…I’m looking forward to your commentary.

    @kai_y
    Rofl. It does come across that way for a little while. As the manga progresses, it gets toned down though.

    @Briar
    I still enjoyed the first half of the episode. That slapstick humor is the kind of thing that often saves this kind of anime. I mean…do we REALLY care about what bad guy is wanting to take over the world? No. But a spoonful of humor helps the medicine go down. As far as the backdrops go…I actually like them (after having watched the ep like 3 times). And yes yes yes yes yes, the second half is badass.

    I have been following this manga for ages, and I am so so happy that it’s an anime now. Actually, I’m so happy that it’s a FSCKING BADASS ANIME now. Those fight scenes, MY GOD, YES. As soon as I get home, I’m watching this again. And again. And again…

    Besides the fact that hearing Yuji and Shana bickering again is painful, the fight scenes were wonderful. As is the art. Absolutely splendid.

    Wow, I got exactly the same reaction about the fight scene was as exciting as early Naruto. Hopefully future fights will also be more taijutsu based, as the more ninjutsu based Naruto is, the more boring the fights are. The background art reminds me a lot to Byousoku 5 cm somehow.

    Subbers take a week to sub the episode. By then the next episode is already out in raw..;_; And its in mkv.

    Subs are up if you want to watch it subbed ^-^ I’m sure if you do a search you’ll find them.

    I was in love by the time the opening scene was over. And then by the time the OP was done. I was head over heels.

    Of course I love ninjas, so they were already off to a good start. Shippuden wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t dragging it out at a so bloody excruciatingly slow pace. I mean how many episodes did it take to animate extracting Shukaku?

    Still I understand why they are doing it. Namely they don’t want to catch up with the manga so soon. Which I am enjoying way more than the anime of late. Well sort of. Although if Kishimoto doesn’t give Naruto some serious page time soon he might as well rename the manga Sasuke.

    J.C Staff I love you! Of course I’d love you even more if there was more Ghost Hunt, but you need more material for that, so I won’t hold it against you.

    Will definitely be watching the rest of this.

    I’m starting to fall in love with this show. It looks much better than the manga and the boys… (Starts drooling and faints out of excitement.) It’s so much better than Naruto a million times!

    I’m using Rumi subs at the moment because they actually have both episodes out and seem to sub pretty fast. Also the sub quality is pretty good.
