In case you find things rather boring lately, I’ve been thinking for a while to do this. Originally the vote of President in Cross Academy, now it’s the Fight of the Fans: Zero VS Kaname! (Now that Democracy Rules!)
If you like Zero, please vote for him. And if you like Kaname better, vote for him too. The poll will start now and will stop after 31 May 2008. Results will be mentioned in mid-June (Due to some reasons and I’m going off for a vacation.) But for Impz and I we prefer Zero but it’s up to you to decide. Their fate in in YOUR hands!

I think Kaname is a more complex character (…relatively speaking) than Zero. But if I had to pick which I’d get more satisfaction out of seeing Yuuki get paired up with? Zero, all the way.
I have noticed that all the guys I know who like Vampire Knight seem to adore Kaname. Most of the girls I know like Zero better, but there’s a bit more of a split.
Here’s my understanding and argument(no offense zero fans):
Kaname’s love for yuki is incomparable and far far greater to zero’s love for her.
KANAME LIVES FOR YUKI! FOR HIS LOVE FOR HER !!!! damnnn it! zero lives for his desire to destroy the vampire race. Zero’s hatred is his most prominent characteristic and emotion within him, not his love for yuki! Zero only loves and cares for her because of the immense kindness that she’s showed him. that’s his inner struggle! he hesitates to hurt yuki because she’s been so kind to him MORE AS A BROTHER OR A FRIEND THOUGH!!! she’s never shown any romantic interest in him in the beginning.
Kaname on the other hand is such a complex deep character it’s frightening. He’s experienced such despair and loneliness throughout his life that when he discovers his love for yuki, she becomes the light in his life, HIS REASON FOR LIVING. my god, he’s lived for so long that he doesn’t even recall his original name!!!!!!!!
KANAME’S PAIN IS PAIN THAT ONLY COMES WITH IMMORTALITY. KANAME IS SO FRAGILE AND HOPELESS. HE’S SO DISTRUSTING BECAUSE HE KNOWS!!!!! THE EVIL OF THE WORLD!!!!!!HE’S SCARED…

kaname has loved yuki for the longest time and has only been gentle towards her. he DESERVES some measure of love in his life which he finds in yuki.HE NEEDS HER WITH ALL HIS BEING!!!!!
ZERO’S SITUATION IS LIKE EASY COMPARED TO KANAME’S.

i understand why there are so many zero fans…he’s more attractive to some people because he’s far more relatable and normal than kaname. kaname on the other hand is so complex that some readers misunderstand his character. he doesn’t exhibit his true feelings. but this is about who is fated to be with yuki. the answer is kaname no matter how attractive zero may seem to other people. yuki is madly in love with kaname and he is also desperately and passionately in love with yuki! yuki is just torn because she pities zero. she’s just responding to his love. but in her heart, even if kaname didn’t have mutual feelings, it’s him that fills her thoughts and feelings. KANAME WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR YUKI!!!! BUT ZERO DARED TO THREATEN TO KILL HER!

Uhhhhhhh thats weard my brother and a some male friends who i practically torture to read the manga, dislike kaname after reading the whole thing, and then they all agree on some points, they all thought youki became a shadow of her former character to become a vampiristic zombi who thinks that tha person who is manipulated her entire world can’t do no wrong, then my bro saided that if he has to pick one character it will be zero, even though he got a bit tire of his emotional state, but then he mostly read shonens so go figure so he’s kind of inmune to emo males heck he seem to dipper into his character as far as to said that zero has the most potential, i agree with him, just the thought that when he gets out of his slumber the whole manga is not going to be the same makes me exalted probably the only thing that keeps me still reading this manga sadly the author scrued up the main girl character, traing to portrait her as a victim i said epic fail i just which more authors will use the theme of cause and result, but then againg this author was never that good to begin with, her other works are so so, more a miss than a hit but her art is outanding for a shoujo manga ka,but still a steps back of her female peers that do some shonen, manly because the action is lacluster lol, then the manga is to pretencious for it’s own good.
HEheheheh i forgot to said, that they mention that they tend to by instic to favor the underdog all of them said it, we are talking of 5 guys here, but then i don,t now if it’s evidence enough XD.By the way i dislike kaname for his excuse of saying “i did it all for your sake” to me that sound like a abuse boyfrend right there, the one that manipulates you into thinkig that because he said it alright everything is alright, when the sad true is that it’s not, i am a firm beliver that you have to experience things and make mistakes as that will make you grow and become wise along the way, “you can’t block the sun with one finger”. AHHHHHHHHHH to much so sorry for the long post.
Interesting! Maybe I just have unusual guy friends. Or maybe you guys are the weirdos. I wouldn’t be so quick to count out Yuuki just yet, though…
As for pretension…I don’t think the manga pretends to anything more than the deliciously shallow, Harlequin-esque soap opera it is.
I always liked it for being so unabashed.
I guess we’ll see…
Personally, for me its Zero ^_^
I like his character a lot. He’s come a long way from the emo boy that he was at the beginning of the series. Plus, his flaws make him all the more genuine to me when compared to the mysterious, but near perfect Kaname.
Woah! Zero is already in the lead. Let’s hope it remains like that ^_^

I kinda wish there had been an option for both, because it was tough for me to choose between them.
I voted Kaname since I think he’s just cool, if a bit (okay more than a bit) manipulative and Machievellin. You have to admire his cojones for setting things up the way he did and likely pulling things off. There’s not doubt he cares for Yuuki. (Although he’s clearly not getting any love from the poll results so far. =))
But I really like Zero too. He’s had it tough and isn’t afraid to stand up to Kaname. He was in despair (well, still is) but at least he cares enough about Yuuki to help her when she needs it. I agree in the long run he’s probably a better choice for Yuuki.

The anime doesn’t make his role shine out as much compared to the manga- also I prefer him compared to the slightly hotheaded Zero- caluclating and scheming are quite like-able characteristics to make the character i guess more interesting. Blah. Can’t really put my feelings to words… Kaname obviously loves Yuuki but not in the same way as Zero though -but blah I guess it depends really on what criteria you’re looking at- i mean if you talk about the most loving perhaps Zero as he reminds me of a overgrown pup while Kaname is too much of a chess player… but for the coolest and personal favorite character Kaname XD
well all of them play video games whach ttgl, gundam 00,and code geass he reads ecchi, shonen and sennin and some shoujo( i make him read the treinwreck that nana is, i think i traumatise the poor guy with it lol) but i’m really proud of him that he would take my opinion into acount when he talks about his tastes, to know what i think, and to debate with is frends of differen things (he makes me read his stuff too, he make go through all 60 chapter of sereki,bastard, History’s Strongest Kenichi,Shin Angyo Onshi,Shina Dark and of late to love ru)heck we even try some yaoi because of a frend of my is a big fan of it, i’m a girl, i have my limits but it’s heathty to be open mindded. it’s funny we debate manga like if we are debating Shakespeare, gabriel garcia markes or edgar allan poe, funny indeed lol.
I’m not sure who I like better, but for me the defining difference between the characters is transparency. Zero is such a simple character – you know what his character is like, what he wants, what his fears and hates are. Kaname is all secrets, you don’t know a damn about him. In that sense, Zero feels “safer” even with his weak control over his vampire urges. There is no hidden agenda when it comes to him, but Kaname is wide open for being a real villain if that’s what the script writers have in mind.
I LOVE Kaname…that is all there is to it!

He’s more handsome and it’s more fun to watch him than Kaname. And cannot forget his seiyuu is Mamoru.
Zero all the way! Kaname is too aloof & manipulative – he’s also very self-centred. Zero may be much more angsty but he’s a much more interesting character, plus he has every right to be angsty given all he’s gone though! Zero also has a more appealing personality, he shows a much broader range of emotion than Kaname, who alternates between cold, frosty & superior and chivalrous White Knight!
My younger sister prefers Kaname purely on character design.

We know close to zero about Kaname except that he is a pureblood and very strong.
Zero has a lot of self control, dead family, and is a vampire.
More time should pass before judgment can be passed. At least wait until the middle of the series to do this.

I think what they were really getting at was probably as they’re portrayed in the manga since it has been 35 chapters now…
As far as I can tell the anime adaptation does not stray far from the canon so it stands to reason that the Kaname and Zero in the anime are pretty much the same in their manga incarnations.
I have a problem with the poll. I wanted to vote, but there’s no option to choose both. x.x Double K.O, much? It’s impossible for me to choose one.
I guess Kaname is a bit too perfect for my tastes. Zero’s much more human (oh wait, he is. or, used to be, lols), since he has to overcome the obstacle of possibly become Level E.
Ever since the name Zero got introduced in Code Geass, I feel like the anime universe has been overusing it. I’m probably never going to like any person named Zero anymore.
I’m more of Zero’s fan than Kaname’s. The moment I read the manga, I literally “Zero-ed” in on him. I hope he’ll kick ass in the coming chapters.
since the first chapter i loved Zero the most, he’s been through so much and yet he was able to hang in there, he fought the vampire insect since he was bitten 4 years ago and that only shows his strength and power for life.not to mention his good looking,lol.
well i don’t want to spoil anything but after reading the last chapter you can say that I’ve never hated a character as i hated Kaname, he’s just so evil, they should call him a pure evil vampire and not a pure blood.

its obvious..,, i like kaname more than zero.. why? because he is mysterious.., thus,, making us all think of what are his likes.., dislikes.., and i kinda feel that he will end up with yuki.. since we know that they are not siblings biologically.., and also,, in the way how the plotline goes…, it seems that kaname will shine up in the end..,, huweehehe

I Love Zero. He is my favorite character in the anime next to Yuki. Kaname is too condescending toward the rest of the world besides Yuki, even though it is kind of admirable that he would do anything for her.

Actually, he is much similar to the charcaters I prefer, kind of arrogant(?)…i mean intorvert and aloof but nice, so yeah so far in the anime, he is awesome and wins…
Kaname is handsome n all but he just lacks something (maybe focus of the anime plot? idk)

As Kaname is a creepy, posessive, lolicon stalker type. He majorly bugs me, I don’t like the super perfect type guys in anime.
For me its gonna be Zero both in personality and looks..
I voted for the sexy-sensual-dark Kaname. If I were to pick a drink that describes him, it’d be red wine XD
Zero- he makes me think of soda. And his entire personality is an overused shoujo cliche. The lead in shoujo is invariably paired with the hero guy or the iceberg (which VK doesn’t have). I’d like to a shoujo manga I like at least once not to follow this rule.

Yeah , it might sound creepy but I really like both of them.
The reason why I started to read and watch VK is that I saw a picture of Kaname ,Yuuki and Zero on a site with ‘kawaii’ (XD) images and I fell in love with the love triangle ideea.
In any case, if I can’t vote for both of them I choose Kaname (soooo sorry Zero , I loooooooove you, but you are not that good and you seem to like to give up on things).
Kaname. I like smart, manipulative men who know what they want. I don’t empathise with Zero, because he is wallowing in self-pity. No female lead deserves a guy like this! LOL.
I like both, but I voted for Kaname because he’s the one I’d go for first if VK were a dating sim. lol.

hmm I like both! honestly, when I think “Kaname for me”, then I see a picture of Zero and go “oh Zero he’s so perfect too”. I’m too weak for both of them. and I like both KanamexYuuki and ZeroxYuuki pairings lol.
They each have their own amazing charm, as much as this sounds cheesy or something lol. Zero has been through a lot and loves Yuuki to no ends, but so does Kaname; he “protected” her for so long and now that he awakened her to her true self, I don’t think he will give her up that easily and he shouldn’t. <3 they are kinda meant to be together, right?
If Yuuki ends up with Zero they make a perfect shoujo fan-girling couple. and then Kaname and Yuuki, they make a more mysterious and deep-bond couple.

I have to say Kaname all the way. His dark personality really appeals to me. I can never resist a dark and manipulative character but that’s just me. I personally do not like Zero at all. Yeah for Kaname.
I loooooooooooooove Zero. Personally, i just dont really like kaname much anymor. i did at first but he’z turned into a posssesive annoying n selfish jerk. even if it iz for love, itz unattractive. Got to go Kaname. Zero’s just ridiculous to me with the way he mopes over his problems but doesn’t face his reality. Conversely Kaname makes very realistic evaluations of the events around him and will make painful choices in order to protect the one he loves. From my perspective Kaname’s much more of an adult and Zero is the little child throwing a temper tantrum over the things he wants rather than accepting the things that have to be.
