To Love-Ru Episode 13 – You thought you had problems with your in-laws?

Well now that Kure-nai is over, there isn’t much for me to do in terms of blogging. Sure I still have TLR, but nothing worthwhile has really happened so far. I thought this episode would have been pretty interesting with a new character, but it turns out that it wasn’t even a real person (more details later… I guess). All I can do now is wait for the next season and hope to find a few gems that I could blog on. Otherwise, these episode summaries of TLR might be the only time you hear from me.

Summary(condensed)

Earth gets a visit from Lala’s very own father, Gid “Supreme Ruler of the Universe”. Gid hangs around Rito’s school to observe him and finally calls him up to the rooftop in order to test him with a fake doll of a woman. Rito apparently “fails” this test as he acted too cowardly with her advances. As Gid is about to destroy Rito along with the Earth, Lala stops him. Lala explains that Rito is the most important person to her and Gid backs off. He instead tells Rito to become the number one man in the universe or else the next time he sees him, he will kill him and destroy the Earth.

Impressions

As you can tell with the very short episode summary I posted, there wasn’t much that happened in this episode. Lala’s father came into the picture and placed a heavy burden on Rito. Lala gets sad, Rito gets troubled, then he finds his resolve to become a better person, blah blah blah. Anyways you get the picture. The only saving grace for the episode is probably how awesome Gid looks and the bits of fanservice here and there. But other than that, another mediocre episode for TLR.

Mmh , I think That was one of the better episodes of TLR.
The plot was more seriously than in all the other Episodes before
Lala’s roof top scene was very good,I liked the part when she puts her feelings for Rito into words.

I’m very optimistic for the next episodes…

You could probably copy and paste this summary for all future episodes.

I enjoyed the Yui fanservice, other than that Rito’s indecisiveness and ineptitude is approaching Keitaro Urashima-esque proportions.

Aside from the character designs, I keep scratching my head and wondering what the appeal of this series is.

The previews for the next episode don’t exactly capture interest either but with Kanokon over there isn’t much to pass the time inbetween Geass episodes ;/

Hopefully Sekirei will be a “better” fanservice-esque show than TLR.

@Fabian: I guess you could say that this episode was a bit more serious than the others. However, I still felt disappointed with this episode and my ever declining impression of the entire series has decreased even more with this episode.

@Halcyon: Character designs is one main highlight of the series. The others SHOULD have been fanservice and hilarious situations that has been done well in the manga. However, the anime falls very short, as I’ve been saying many times before. I’m not sure what’s up with the anime… maybe it’s the production/animation companies? But what’s the deal? Xebec also did Kanokon. Maybe a different team worked on each series? There could be a number of reasons why the anime fell so far from the manga… maybe they even think this version is better. Anyways, I’m just going to finish this series and hopefully have something better come along.

I think the major reason the series sucks so hard is that the production company is using “anime-original” material, whereas in Kanokon they just adapted and modified the story from the light novels sparsely.

It doesn’t seem like they’re using anything from the manga (which in itself isn’t exactly great material either).

TLR is really in a tough spot. On the one hand, the source material is generally fluff and filler (which might be why the production team on TLR chose to go with original material). On the other hand, the original anime-only scripts are amazingly worse than the manga.

How they can stretch this to 26 episodes is beyond my imagination. Even the fanservice (which is supposed to be one of the highlights of the show) is very tame, at least in comparison to Kanokon.

And the comedy…is just non-existant. This really seems like the Pokemon of ecchi/harem shows. Just really brainless, mindnumbing writing.

I, myself, can not WAIT until the summer season kicks off so I can replace TLR with Zero no Tsukaima, Sekirei or Koihime+Musou. At this point, I’m starting to think even Ikki Tousen would be an improvement over TLR and that’s saying a lot.

Well, there aren’t much things on TLR that are done very good.
But, for me its not bad enough to drop it

I like the main characters ,the intro and the flat ecchi humor XD
