Kotoko is dreaming again. Sigh.
I do not know why no one other than Hinano seems to be interested in this series. I actually watched the 14th episode today and hell, I got the freaking shock of my entire life. I am now kyaa-ing (even though only fangirls are technically the only gender that kyaas) so much over the episode that I just have to make a post about the *cough cough* c-word.
That said, my girlfriend just went batshit fangirl as well watching this episode. It’s just one of the best episodes for this anime series and I really think any shoujo fan has to pick up Itazura no Kiss for viewing. This post will be likely filled with fanboy/fangirl loving, so beware of the consequences.
Oh yes, please *take note that it’s actual dialogue translated without edits*, so if you fear extreme spoilers, please do not go on.

Just follow Hinano’s link above if you are interested to have a very brief summary of what happened. I personally felt that the episode is way too fast, but it really brings a smile to my face (and made me kyaa like a total fanboy). The episode started with the confession that is translated below. Irie decides to go home and convinces Kotoko’s father for Kotoko’s hand, and Irie decides to marry Kotoko after they graduate. Irie’s mother is of course delighted with the advancement. Eventually, everyone gave their blessing, and Irie’s mother decides that they should get married before Irie changes his mind. So, they did GET married after one week.
Yes, reality is totally thrown out of the freaking window. Who cares, seriously. My girlfriend and I are somewhat swearing (without cussing) at the end of the show, because both of us will want to kill the director if this turns out to be an extended dream. It just feels so surreal, so sweet, so cute and so loving that I cannot fathom this happening in one single episode. It almost killed me with ectasy and happiness when I watch this. Whoever is still following Itazura no Kiss should celebrate the greatness of this episode.
Throw your cynicism and realism aside for just this episode, and just absorb the cute and sweet love between Kotoko and Irie. YAY!

After rejecting Kin-chan, Irie surprisingly was waiting for Kotoko at the train station.
Kotoko: I am going to leave your house. I already discussed it with father. I will no longer be an obstacle for your marriage. I will marry Kin-chan. In that case, everyone will be happy. Irie will be with Chris. I will be helping Kin-chan and Father in the store.
Irie: Do you love him?
Kotoko: Of… of course! Kin-chan has loved me since the first year of high school.
Irie: Even though someone tells you their feelings, does it mean that you love him back?
Kotoko: Why not? I am tired of the five years of unrequited love for you ! You just need to think about Chris. For me…
Irie: The person you love is me. You do not love any other guy except me.

Kotoko: Why? Why are you sure?
Kotoko: Yes! Yes, you are right! But… but I do not have any choice. You do not love me, so…

Cue the K-word. Kiss, by the way, not kyaa.

KYAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
Kotoko: Irie-kun… Why?

Irie: Do not say that you like any other guy anymore.

Didn’t Crusader used to blog this? Why has it stopped!?
I haven’t seen this series yet. I’ve just finished up Lovely Complex and have been looking around for a new shoujo series. This was one of the series on my short lists that I’ve been mulling over.
It looks interesting enough but why does nearly EVERY shoujo series have a “kissing in the rain” scene?
I’ve kissed in the rain and it’s not at all romantic. It’s wet, damp and cold! I don’t know why they keep using this scenario over and over.
Having said that, I’ll probably marathon this series this weekend inbetween calculus proofs.
Crusader got lazy and went to fanboy on my blog instead? xD
I dunno why no one else blogs this show, maybe they don’t like the old style shoujo designs? (Even though they are a far step above the original manga drawings lol)
@L-chan: Read Hinano’s reply. Lazy soldier Crusader dropped it.
@Halycon: Oh, I am not sure whether it will be up your alley. Of course, i will admit that rain is always more stylish in anime or in drama. You will always see a romantic scene there. I have never kissed in the rain before, so I have no clue whatsoever. It’s just for dreamy people like me to enjoy.
@Hinano: I actually think that the animation is improving a little since the start of the season. Not sure if it is just my eyes but there is quite a bit of upgrade on the character features since episode 10 or so.
lovely complex is in a whole other league then itazura no kiss. which is basically a so so lov com
During the preview, I was not sure that I would watch this cuz of the character designs (in one of the shots Irie’s head looks oversized lol) Getting back to the topic… the only series except for Code Geass R2 that I followed every week.
Despite the absence of reality and any possible connection to it whatsoever… I enjoyed this series and I think I am gonna watch the raw episode 14 even though I don’t know Japanese, not a bit. Anyways, how many episodes are left??
LOL!!! You can KYAA better than me, impossible! For real though, kyaaa~ ^.^ I think Kin-chan is the total winner here catching a super rich American girl and all. I almost felt bad for him.
Seeing Irie be so gentle to Kotoko with all those hugs made this so worthwhile considering her cold attitude to her from 1-13. It’s about time. I also loved the new ED theme. For a sec there, I thought this was the last episode lol
O_________O
I only just watched episode 13 XD
I thought this was a review for that..
itazura is 26 episodes right? o.o
HOW DO THEY END UP TOGETHER SO EARLY? XD
lovely complex is in a whole other league then itazura no kiss. which is basically a so so lov com
Oh man, that offends my shoujo heart. InK is the bible of shoujo romance and to call LovCom better is just sad. I don’t get why people get so frustrated with Itazura no Kiss and love stuff like Lovely Complex, which took 18 freaking episodes before Otani would even admit he liked Risa. Then they broke up. And got back together. You know they’ll break up later anyway in a few years. -_-
I read the manga and I promise it’s no dream. They did really get married, though obviously more problems with arise~ I think alot from Kotoko’s insecurity. I was kyaaing too lol. Getting married in 14 episodes has got to be a record. I need to rewatch this.
And I have to say…
The person you love is me. You do not love any other guy except me.
Swooon
Been watching this show since the beginning… I’m a big softy for shoujo shows even if all I blog about lately are mecha shows. Not really the greatest show shoujo ever, but hey it’s pretty enjoyable.
~Impz~ I did not go “batshit….” Well, not as much as you did….
~Halcyon~ kissing in the rain is romantic, especially if you do it right and with the right person. ^^ And yes, ItaKiss is worth the watch.
~Hinano~ I don’t read your blog that much but just for blogging this anime, you’re aweseom!
~Aho~ I beg to differ.
~Emmi~ Yes! Yes! Yes! Watch it raw! ^^
~Ani_d~ I second that motion!
~Bamboo~ The anime might also cover the beginnings of their married life.
~Anne~ You wrote exactly the same thing I had in my mind. Great minds do think alike.
Since my sweet and dum dum girlfriend already replied to all of you, I will reply to her false allegation that I kyaa-ed more than her. She always kyaas a lot whenever there is a romantic scene and the only reason why I followed suit is because it will make her feel better. That’s all.
I am just so nice.
Emmi, I totally think you should watch it raw even if you do not understand it. Nonetheless, subs appear so fast that you shouldn’t worry so much about it. The anime WILL cover their married life as InK goes on a rather long period, rather than only school life.
~Impz~ So not true!!! After all, I watched it raw, I couldn’t have understood most of the dialogue, and you did since you watched it with chinese subs, which is why you kyaa-kyaa-ed more than I did. GINGI!
I also fail to understand why INK isn’t more liked–I’ve been trying to find some fanwork online and it’s terribly hard… I am absolutely obsessed with this anime–and like somebody said–it’s the bible of shoujo romance!!
Japanese culture has this… ideal of a martyr, sacrificing lover (Candy Candy, anyone?) that is very frustrating, and always leaves you wanting more. There are very few anime that end up well on the romantic department (think Sailor Moon, CC Sakura…), and even then it takes forever for couples to get together… and then the Anime(s) ends there!
INK makes me go all warm inside. And while it IS fast-paced (I’ve been reading the manga online and they cut a lot from the story), it’s still awesome, especially since, as I mentioned with other shoujo anime, it doesn’t stop at the wedding–it goes over! I love that.
I kyaaaaaed with this episode several times myself–I watched the RAW repeatedly (thank God for my basic Japanese–I managed to understand most of it) until the subbed version came out tonight and I havent been able to stop watching it over and over again.
I love their scenes together; I love the kisses and all the hugging. I love the music and all the very subtle drama. Oh, and I am also in love with Irie-kun.
kya!!!!! i so wanna watch episode 14 now!!!!!!!!!!! its killing me!!!!
i love this show!!!!!!!
definitely agree that it felt like a dream. it felt so surreal. it seems i got too used to naoki’s coldness. all in all, it was really good.
I would like to give my two-cents worth regarding this particular scene… *clears throat*
KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~~~
