Pikachu, I choose you!
Well the first anime episode started off just as uninspiring as the beginning of the manga did, except they weren’t allowed to show nipples on TV =/ For those uninitiated this is a show about a Pokemon/108 Stars of Destiny harem where all the girls (save for one loli) have gigantic racks. The first episode was a bid mediocre, but theoretically it gets better like the manga did.

They started us off with some sort of depressing and bloody opening sequence from the past. While those that have read the manga will probably be able to guess what this scene refers to, it has yet to be shown from what I remember in the manga. They certainly didn’t open it up this way before, perhaps they are trying to setup a central conflict to end the series on. Either way it kind of ruins the mood.

The highly original “airhead girl crashes into loser from the sky” opening. Yes, this show starts out very, very generic and continues to be generic for a bit. The guy gets thrown out of his house for bringing a woman over, superpower girls chase him and the girl around, and they have to use LOVE POWER to beat them and save each other.

Also note that said male is apparently terrified of huge, monstrous tits in his face. Personally, my face would have a somewhat different reaction from that. More along the lines of a sly grin and a Quagmire “allllllright, giggity giggity.” And I certainly would not run out of the room when said naked, big breasted girl advances towards me. Le sigh.

There is an explanation about what this Sekirei thing is, but does it really matter? Here are the steps involved for those who care:
1) Girls get all hot and bothered when around their “chosen” man (by the way, in the recently released manga chapters this becomes even more hilarious due to certain trap gender issues)
2) The master kisses them to “wing” them (way too easy, I won’t even go there)
3) Then girl moans orgasmically
4) Then said girl becomes his superpowered pokemon and they have to defeat all the other pokemon to become the winners of the game
The animation quality was pretty poor in parts for a first episode, with fairly low frame rates and some problematic physics on the breasts. It lacked fluidity at times, I guess they have to save money since it’s a fanservice show (read: no budget) but they are required to have battles in it. The characters so far are mediocre, the loser male and the doormat, airhead girl, but it’s only the first episode. I assure you that the other characters are much more interesting, at least they were in the manga. You can espescially look forward to the megane genius girl and the tsundere, and even the loli for those of you inclined.
I don’t plan on blogging the show each week because I just did a fanservice show (Kanokon) and I want to spend my second slot on Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t make a couple of posts here and there when something interesting happens or my favorite characters show up. So stay tuned intermittently as I’ll pop a Sekirei post here and there.
Overall, the show starts off weak, but so did the manga. However, the manga eventually was able to have some charm and fun to make it something more than your average harem show. I will certainly by watching it for the time being to see how it develops, especially considering the voice cast reads like a ballot for Seiyuu Rookie of the Year.

I thought it was a fairly standard and palatable introduction to the series.
From the promos, you can tell this series is going to be all about fanservice and a tournament-esque battle structure.
As far as ecchi series go, this one doesn’t stand out very much but I enjoyed watching it nonetheless.
It’s a nice diversion and will probably hold me over inbetween watching Zero no Tsukaima and Code Geass eps until something better comes along.
yup it was really a slow start but it really gets better especially when Tsukiumi and Kazehana join the harem even if a person who does not like this kind of genre should give this a watch in the later episodes just because of the all star VA cast. Now gotta go buy me a box of tissues in preparation for Code Geass tom T__T
@Halcyon
It’s no Kanokon when it comes to ecchi, that’s for sure, but it will have some at least. It’s always good to have a random mindless fanservice show to give you a break from speculating on Code Geass with everyone.
@Onizuka
Tsukiumi is one delicious tsundere, but I prefer Matsu over Kazehana. But that’s another thing about this show, there’s a good amount of variety in character types, as long as you like big boobs (once again, except for that one loli).
And as for Geass, yeah I read all the spoilers out there and I don’t want to put that kind of stuff in my regular posts for obvious reasons. I think after this week’s episode I’m going to make a general spoilers and speculations post that’s completely separate where we can all ramble about all the stuff that’s been leaked.
I checked it out, and while not terrible, there were a good number of things that bothered me. Orgasm power-ups, retarded breasts, and some of the body movements just looked…odd.
But I’ll keep watching if there’s more of that chick with the sword (read: skip to whatever episodes she’s in). She was badass.
Well, I liked the first episode…
I am so naive when it comes to anime. What’s unique is actually generic and what’s generic is flat out stupid and boring.
“(by the way, in the recently released manga chapters this becomes even more hilarious due to certain trap gender issues)”
Dammit, did you have to mention that? Now I’m gonna be stuck reading this crap in a pathetic ‘hope spring eternal’ mentality.
I like the first episode.
i thought it was a really good series and i love sekirei but i barely now anybody that actually likes sekirei
Been meaning to check this anime out in my netflix, but sounds like it might be a loss cause.
