World Destruction Episode 1

At last…probably the rest of you and I has their eyes popped when watching the entire episode. Not what I’ve expected, but there’s still time for improvement. And who’s the sick human/beastman who drew that? Surely there’s some advanced technology you’ve have, like those soldiers from the World Salvation Committee had their guns on and shoot people. Anyways, there’s still a couple of episodes and if Kirie goes on to be a coward for the rest of the series, I would have to stop watching the show because in the game trailer he doesn’t act that way (And I hope in the game he does not do too much of that.). I’m only doing a summary to the first episode and for the consecutive episodes I just write my thoughts out so that I won’t spoil the story for those who wants to catch it themselves just by clicking here. To the summary…and if you want to watch it by yourself, go to the impressions section.

SPOILERS ALERT!

As the story goes, beastman are the rulers of the world our heroes are living in and humans are inferior to the beastmen. Narrated by Toppi (The stuffed bear) in the beginning, he was out drinking booze in a bar and we knew that he is a member of the Heroes’ Guide, who are detectives or freelancers that people will look for help, with a small price in return. A wanted poster of Morte was shown (Unfortunately, talk about ugly) in the bar and later at the restaurant Kirie is currently working it, disguising as a beastman with those fake cat ears on. Unconcerned about the world he was living in, he then serves a dish to a cloaked customer and later told Kirie that he gave the wrong dish. Meanwhile, masked soldiers in white surrounded the restaurant and inside the restaurant, there were rumors spreading that the so-called ‘World Destruction Committee’ is here in the town. The rumor was interrupt by our hero here, giving the right dish this time. The cloaked lady then calls the beastman to get lost as she wants to have her lunch peacefully but it was interrupted again when the soldiers in white had their guns on the cloaked lady.

Calling themselves the World Salvation Committee, they ordered the people in the restaurant to freeze, except for one obvious person (You-know-who, it’s just so predictable). The cloaked person whines that her lunch was paid by all her savings and attacked the soldiers. The person was revealed to be the wanted person of the ‘World Destruction Committee’, as Kirie looked at her in awe. She pulls Kirie and got ready the weapon pointing on his neck, threating the WSC soldiers that if they move the boy dies. Struggling, the fake cat ears Kirie was putting on was fake, revealed that he is human (Which people don’t see them very often in a world ruled by beastmen.) The soldiers started shooting the two humans immediately and the girl ran away leaving Kirie behind as he followed, with no place to return to.

In the meantime, Toppi is still drinking booze (And don’t expect his voice to be a typical cute one like Kero from CCS or like almost all the Shugo Charas in Shugo Chara.) and a human boy went towards him, asking for his help to rescue his older sister who was about to become a sacrifice to Sakkai (Which we will know later.) by Nekoshi-sama’s request, willing to pay any price for the bear. On top of the mountains which occupies a castle, some cat-like beastmen reported the new information to their leader (That the World Destruction Committee has arrived in the town.) Feeling worried that his castle will be raided by the WDC, the leader shrieks, complains that the town doesn’t bring much fortune to him and his problems with Sakkai and the WDC, he orders his men to get a sacrifice to Sakkai.

Out in a forest somewhere, the girl complains why Kirie, as a human, was in the town and with Kirie defending himself that he was successful in raiding into the restaurant (Probably to get some money to see ends meet.) because working for a beastman would make a person earn big bucks. He laments to Morte that she revealed his human identity and calls her name, without even her introducing herself. Asking why he knew her name, he answered, that her name was written in the wanted poster and mentioned more details about her until he speaks about her age. Morte then exclaims that she is only 16 years old and not 17, and telling Kirie that there is a big difference between 16 years old and 17 years old. Thinking, he doesn’t think that age is really important, as long as the looks and the name is right. Ranting like an old lady, she turns back at Kirie and apparently introduces himself. Morte has no idea that the WSC has started calling her a WDC member, chasing after her like an escaped fugitive. but was thankful that the soldiers has gave her such a nice nickname. A girl came out from the bushes, and asked who they are. Kirie gave the girl a stupid response that they were tourists or drifters. Rinan asked if they had seen her brother, Kain till the elder of the human village stopped the conversation, inviting the two adventurers to stay in the village for the night, since Morte does not want to stay there for long.

Night has come (And the moon looked like cartoonish cat eyes, without the irises.) and the two travelers rest for the night. Kirie almost finished his dinner (And even took Morte’s share greedily.) and Morte asked what he was going to do from now on. Declaring that he has nowhere to go with the restaurant destroyed and him ‘quitting’ since they found out he’s human (Before he takes all of Morte’s share of dinner.), he decides to stay in the village for a long-term period. He asked if she would like to do the same, but she declines as she wants to destroy the world by herself. Kirie warns Morte that both humans and beastmen will be killed if she does that, but Morte doesn’t care anyways. Destroying the worthless world, she will say and Kirie proves that it’s impossible to destroy the world by herself. Introducing the Destruct Code that looked like a black crystal, she says that that alone would be sufficient to destroy the world. Out of curiosity, Kirie wanted to touch the orb but Morte moved it further away from his reach, with the orb glowing green lights which surprised the brunette. Kirie says he wants to touch it but was shut by Morte. Telling the blond not to follow her, she just wants him to go back to the restaurant disguised as a beastman again leaving her alone and after rambling, about to say something hurtful/serious to Kirie he fell asleep just in time. As both travelers rested for the night, the villagers were discussing to use the two travelers as sacrifices to Sakkai since Kain could not be found (As he is the next sacrifice to Sakkai.) and they have to replace him otherwise.

On their way to the nearest piece of land, Toppi and Kain were riding a ship to get to the village just in time, and the villagers did not find Morte to be sleeping in bed and with Kirie snoring loudly sleeping on the floor alone (And with b00bs later…oh no…). Morte leaves the village, who regrets leaving Kirie alone to fend for himself till Rinan came, warning that Kirie was to become a sacrifice to Sakkai.

As the cat beastmen surround around Kirie above performing a ritual (Which is very silly for those who had watched.) with the blond still snoring like a glutton, a monster beneath the waters was summoned, ready to eat Kirie up. (Sorry if I write something pretty stupid later, which is based on actual fact that he’s eating goo.) Kirie sleep-talks in his sleep, swallowing on the blue stuff and threw it out later and realized that two monsters were about to enter their hungry stomachs. Still in the ritual, Morte grabbed the leader of the beastmen, calling herself a World Destruction Committee member. All his henchmen snarl at the brunette and as she pointed her weapon at the leader, they stayed away from her. Taunting where Kirie is, the leader starts blaming his henchmen, asking if who was the one who said that the security is perfect, the others unable to calm their leader down. Threating the leader to become the next sacrifice, she hears a scream from below and on the other hand throwing the beastman down. He sees Kirie below and as he murmured something standing behind Nekoshi-sama, it was too late for the beastman, gobbled up in just one go, spitting only his hat out. Kirie looked at the monsters in fear, and before he was going to be gobbled up Morte came to his rescue, untying only his legs. The WSC soldiers killed one of the monster using their guns again and to add matters worse, Kirie and Morte were bring attacked by them, again, hiding themselves behind a big rock.

Toppi and Kain came in time to rescue Kirie and Morte (Now that the two siblings had reunited together again.) Asking Morte to untie his hands and his upper body too, she turned to him, telling the blond to do it when she finish off the soldiers alone. Showing flashy moves when attacking the WSC, Toppi shows off his short legs out of nowhere, exchanging moves with more of them. One of the soldiers got Kirie captive, ordering Morte to drop her weapon (Like in those police/crime movies.) when the procedure was interrupted by the monsters, Kirie was too late to run, about to become the monster’s dinner and luckily Toppi could save him otherwise there is no more story to it. He mistakes Kirie for a lady (Because of his ‘b00bs, perhaps? You don’t mind him cross-dressing in a side-quest when the game comes, as in IF they have side-quests in the game.) and with more misunderstandings that Toppi is one of the members of the WDC, ordering the rest to finish Toppi and Kirie off. To save both captives, Morte threatens the soldiers that she’ll activate the Destruct Code if they kill Kirie. One of them thought she was joking, they starts attack the brunette all over again until she tripped, the orb fell into Kirie’s hands. It started glowing stronger that the previous time, and everything below starts to crumble.

Managed to escape from death, Kirie still had his hands on the Destruct Code, glowing. Morte confessed to Kirie that she doesn’t know how to activate the Destruct Code properly, and as he return the orb to Morte, it stopped glowing. The two kids come to the travelers, thanking them for their help with no more talk after they realize that they are the World Destruction Committee. Looking at the silhouettes of a younger her and the guy you’ll see in the preview of the next episode lying dead (Probably her brother or lover.) Stealing Toppi’s ship, Morte and Kirie are set to destroy the world and it was not too late for Toppi to get into his ship, kicking Kirie during the process. So the three set on an adventure to destroy the world, and Toppi finally finishes narrates the entire tale, telling everyone that heroes had a role in destroying the world.

Impressions:

Well, the first episode was just the beginning and the music’s just decent (By not-so-popular band and singer.) so I wouldn’t take account if not for the strong voice cast. I did not expect Kirie to be such a coward by watching the trailer and the 30-second preview of the series. And it’s unlikely that Kirie will be a coward for the rest of the series since this series was worked on by the old Xenogears team (NOT XENOSAGA, Xenogears.). It’s been a decade since they last did a project together.

Coming up to the plot, I can make a comparison between Xenogears and World Destruction. In Xenogears, demi-humans or beastmen are looked upon as outcasts and the Solarians (A human superior race, who thinks they are the most powerful of all.) are the most superior in that universe but in World Destruction it’s just the opposite, with the roles of humans and beastmen switched. Also, I didn’t thought that the first episode is going to be funny, save for the World Destruction Committee with their role to destroy the world. I could still remember the part where Kirie’s b00bs went jiggling like some fanservice show and couldn’t stop laughing at it. At least it’s not so bad as other game-anime adaptations. The action scenes make it less like a typical MMORPG/RPG style, you don’t hear Maya throwing potions at her allies in Ragnarok the Animation or hearing some slow talk in Persona -trinity soul- with very few action scenes and more like watching an action movie.

I like his b00bs…if he replaced Cloud it would be better in the side-quest

Well, after watching the 1st episode I had thought up of a few theories, mostly related to Kirie. Long before (About 2 months before the show starts) there was a short summary that he possessed powers too destructive that could destroy the world and he knew about it, but in the beginning of the episode nothing of that sort happened. My friend and I think that there is a possibility that he could have lost his memories or had another personality (Some elements borrowed from Xenogears) different from the usual cowardly guy. But the latter is less likely to happen, we would say. And away from cliches and norms, the heroine Morte seem to be doing all the warrior stuff than being a damsel in distress, which is good. Probably there’ll be a part where Kirie will come and save Morte from someone later on.

In the preview for the next episode, it will tell us more on Morte’s tragic past (Looks like it, as she cried in a grave and a boy about her age was lying down, dying. Probably her brother or lover perhaps.) and the introduction of more characters that are (probably) joining the World Destruction Committee like Ria (My friend thinks she’s a mad person, just by looking at the trailer.) and Naja. Wonder when Agan comes in…

You think Toppi’s legs are too short to do that? And sorry for the long (And detailed) summary and other unimportant parts are either shorten or removed from my summary. Maybe this anime would save the other game-anime adapations that suck and prove that it will shine above the rest. The song for the game sounds more catchy and favorable than the ones in the anime, in my opinion. Anyone a Persona fan here? Today’s the day where Atlus released their new game Persona 4. Looks more appealing than Persona 3… (I took about 2 hours to get this summary done…my fingers are itching.)

This sentence doesn’t make sense! I think you’re clutching at straws here with the XG comparisons. It’s my favourite RPG but that was ten years ago! For an analogy, it’s like comparing Ghost in the Shell and Blood+ and trying to find similarities.

Or rather, the above sentence is the equivalent of “I think Impz is manly since his sister once saw a flying piece of pork.”

Also, it’s most likely Guild and not Guide.

it’s the first episode but it didn’t catch my attention. .. I think my attention span of the was half way until I saw the enemies. .. Didn’t like it the beastmen didn’t seem villain enough and I guess evil enough? I don’t know. . .maybe just not my type.

How does this series exist in relation to the game? If I recall from the previews I’ve read, the main male character in the game has the “Destruct Code.” Is this an adaptation, a retelling, etc?

I can’t believe all he needed was a plastic pair of ears for people to think he was a beastman. They must all be idiots.

@TJ: i loved my ass off with the analogy.

I told RV about my personal bias toward RPG genre anime, since i honestly have not seen anything good from the production line by any company. After that, I just gave up completely on it, since I probably will get entertained much better.

Nonetheless, I realize that it is the first episode. The only character I actually don’t mind is the main female lead. Everyone else, I couldn’t care less. Have fun, RV. Tell me when the series improves (or if it ever).

I like Miyano Mamoru’s voice in World Destruction. The first time I ever heard him voice a character was in Ouran. That light-hearted tone was sweet. Then came along death note, and he took on a dark, emo voice, which annoyed me quite a bit… to say in the least (same applied in Gundam00). It’s also great to see him voicing alongside Maaya again too!

Plotwise, I think it’s so-so right now. But pretty animation and a goofy male lead = win for me.
