Yay! Fanservice!
Despite how hesitant I was about watching this episode (and how little sense it made), I didn’t think it was too bad. Overall, I didn’t like the episode that much, but there were parts that particularly made me laugh or I somewhat enjoyed. So I can’t really call this a terrible episode even though I kinda want to out of habit.
Summary
Licky, licky.
Well the premise of the episode is Saruyama having nightmares about being in feudal Japan and meeting the other characters of TLR as characters from various Japanese folktales or other fictional stories. Saruyama’s “harem” consists of a bunch of female creature-like aliens who creep him out more than anything else. There’s not much else I can summarize with this episode as it was completely random and didn’t really make much sense to me.
Impressions
Dammit Yami, stop being so cute.
There was a few moments I found pretty entertaining. Not that it was particularly funny or anything, but the episode did make me laugh a few times… although I’m not sure if I was laughing at how stupid or bad a particular part was or if I actually found it humorous.
Are/Were there actually any female sumo wrestlers?
Mikado as a sumo wrestler was pretty funny and the few characters that Yami portrayed were pretty entertaining as well since they were a big contrast from their normal personalities.

Speaking of contrasting personalities, Saruyama was a bit out of character when he was yelling at the girls to not strip in public. I suppose there may be another side to Saruyama or maybe he’s just had enough of his nightmares.
Poor Saruyama.
I particularly liked this part where Lala got scared and yelled out “Saruyama snapped!”. I dunno why, but I thought it was funny the first time I saw it.
Love the new costume.
The next episode seems to take from the manga again where Lala gets sick and her personality changes. Of course there will be some original content in it so who knows how it will go.

So you still doing this? I couldnt stand the manga after a certain part now the your entries make me feel the way for the show.
Fuck the haters, shokk. I respect that you are seeing this through to the end. On a related note, have you played the To Love-Ru DS game? I had to download it after I saw the article about the milk squirting on the strawberry. ++ DS posts!
I really, really didn’t like this episode.
I’m not sure if its because I can’t relate to the reference material or I dislike Saruyama. Most likely a combination of both.

@Milestailsprowe: Yep, I figured I might as well finish off the series. If you’re not liking the manga then I highly doubt you’ll enjoy the show… hell, I doubt anyone would have an easy time enjoying the show.
@jiff: Thanks, I haven’t had a chance to try the DS game yet. When I first saw it my first instinct was to stay as far away as possible from it. But I may go back on that and check it out for shits and giggles.
@Tenser: Most of the references flew over my head. The only character I somewhat recognized was Kintarou and even then I’m not really familiar with it. I don’t like Saruyama either, but somehow his misfortune made me laugh a few times.
