Gundam 00 S2 – 03: Gundams for Global Warming

It’s episode 3 and still no sorties by Feddie Aces, for keeping Soma out of a Mobile Suit I declare this Episode to be level 30 gei. Would have been level 15 but they just had to put in a rainbow… Come on Bushido Bob coffee break ended 2 hours ago.

I confess, without shame, that I am sick and tired of fighting — its glory is all moonshine; even success the most brilliant is over dead and mangled bodies, with the anguish and lamentations of distant families, appealing to me for sons and daughters, husbands and wives, and fathers ad mothers… it is only those in Kataron, Celestial Being, and their pansy pampered supporters who have never heard a shot, never heard the shriek and groans of the wounded and lacerated … that cry aloud for more blood, more vengeance, more desolation. – Soma Pieres

The only thing CB is fighting for right now is against 00bama and his energy policy, all who support them are racist and want blood for oil…

Hannibal Haptism was arrested for 40 counts of attempted rape and 75 sexual assaults, and despite 4 years in Feddie captivity without muscular atrophy and such a face CB’s lawyer Calawain maintains that he is innocent and has been abused in prison despite not having been raped in the shower once by the other inmates.

Bring me the anal probe…

It seems that the A-Laws and Federation aren’t so evil after all given how prisoners are not beaten, forced to do manual labor, nor put into compromising positions by the guards as they take photos. Nevertheless because they gave Princess Poverty a new standard woman’s prisoner uniform Jihad-kun is mad that it was not a Britannian Dress and sets out to bust the prison open and melt a few ice caps. After four years of having to wank off in a corner Jihad-kun is finally ready to steal into Princess Poverty’s bed chamber to do something other than discuss Gundam. Hannibal Haptism sees Soma again and tried to force her to recall her days as his rape victim Marie. Being put in a straight jacket and masked like a rapist should, captivity has driven Haptism quite mad, not only could he not wank off during his stay, but could not use his super soldier talents to suck himself off. Seeing Marie again made him very happy though having seen any woman in so long a time would have made him happy regardless, though Haptism only swings of for Lockon when batting for the other team.

Still the rapist I see. They bring back Lassie but the leave Hal dead and bring in this hikkomori. Damn you Sunrise damn you!

Oh God he’s been stalking Soma…

…and she will not bring you baguettes.

After having running away from Sumeragi’s creditors the delinquent members of CB defaulted on their home loans now set out to free serial rapist Hannibal Haptism. Sumeragi is reluctant and refuses to undress before the crew to celebrate the discovery of Hannibal Haptism after four years. Seems Grofaz Sumeragi has a new friend in her little cell phone thingie, since it is not as cool as a iSlug I assume that it once belonged to her imouto and will eventually tell Sumeragi to do bad things and kill Jesus Yamato. Louise is disappointed that she cannot sortie as Saji and Setsuna have another fabulous moment in his padded cell. Katie is sent off with Soma as part of a trap that Ribbons planned, sadly due to unusually high levels of hax and liberal melting of the polar ice caps the prison is flooded and due to the use of the Code Geass Physics Engine mass of objects and behavior of water was not consistent or very real. The EPA estimates that with the sudden increase in the world’s sea levels and the resulting contamination from all the flooded cities that it was the worst man made ecological disaster since the mass colony drop in Gundam X. Nevertheless CB responded that the environmental cost and the killing of billions who lived on the coasts were for a more peaceful world and that Humpback Whales were causing conflict by calling for V’Ger. 00bama immediately went out to visit the disaster areas and approved a program to help out flood victims. CB and Wang Industries then sent a bill to the Federation Parliament demanding over 700 billion for creating new beach front property and demanded 00bama’s resignation citing that and I quote, “It was all the nigger’s fault…00bama hates rich people. Wang for President 2312.” During the chaos Kataron members were caught looting flooded homes and business, though an official statement by der Fuhrer Klaus was that they were only “finding” supplies that included a couple expensive electronics citing them as “necessities.”

Mature Space Loli is love.

Sadly to day Soma did not get to pilot a Mobile Suit, and had to use a peashooter instead.

Mein Oberst Katie hates this shoddy physics engine. She also dislikes how Soma does not have a pink MS yet as well.

The GN-XIIIs that were sent out had some how forgotten to take those neat anti-beam grenades and got shot to pieces despite making Tieriia look incompetent for a few moments before they started running the Arios and Cherudim commercial. Lyle used the opportunity to help Kataron break out a few more pedos, rapists, and crooks from jail during the chaos. The Federation is not sure how they even managed to dock given that their boats would have run aground, but apparently they used a few clipping issue exploits to side step the problem of small boats and the lack of a dock. All in all it was a sad day for the Federation now that so many criminals are one the loose and all of them will soon be raping children to build Setsuna’s perfect little world. Most worryingly of all the dictator Mariana Ismail has been freed and with her new Gundam allies hopes to regain control of Azadistan and start a new oil based economy by dumping millions of crude into the Persian Gulf and setting a few neighboring oil wells in Kurdistan and Kuwait on fire to create some clouds…

Oh I see he turned 20 again eh?

Lecherous Lyle is Lecherous.

Innovative positions confirmed.

Impression:

Well to be honest the reduction of GN-XIIIs to cannon fodder this time did not sit well with me for the past two eps at least the A-Laws were able to hold their own for a while and had some tricks of their own, now it seems that since Haptism and Lyle needed to show their stuff the grunts got the shaft. I hope they are not going to use the same BS in the coming eps with GN Particles doing basically everything…including melting the ice caps to raise sea levels to a hundred meters or more. If beam weapons work under water next time without a hitch then we will know that Gundam 00 is leaning more towards toy whoring and OP Gundams, rather than trying to redeem themselves from the disaster that was GSD. That super powered tsunami via epic global warming in one cap ship cannon ball was just a sorry excuse to stop Katie going toe to toe with Sumeragi in a cap ship battle and I would have much rather see them both try and use their lumbering ships to slug it out, but I guess Gundams killing nameless grunts a la Wing is going to take precedence. Such a pity really…now that we know nameless grunts are now going to pose no threat I hope they bring Prince Ali, Bushido Bob, and Patrick into the fight because Ginin, Louise, and Soma were not allowed to sortie. This to me is rather criminal and pathetic even if it was meant to be reunion episode, they seemed to have no trouble at all in contrast to the previous two eps by just putting everyone on the bench for this round. I hope it was all part of the plan otherwise it kind of casts doubt onto how evil Ribbons is. I hope he doesn’t get cut down to a Scooby Doo villain complaining about those meddling kids Gundams. I am still miffed that they elected for underwater hax instead of having a carrier battle, would have made up for that rainbow at the end…

A gift from Mayu Asuka…

You cannot use the Ruling Ring. That I now know too well. It belongs to Louise and was made by her alone, and is altogether evil. Its strength, Saji, is too great for the emo to wield at will, save only those who have already a great false emotional baggage power of their own. But for them it holds an even deadlier peril. The very desire of it corrupts the heart and creates Shinn Asuka. All that one requires is the cell phone of Mayu which Sumeragi possesses for the terror of Shinn to be brought forth again…

Damn it all! When will Nena stop talking and start crashing weddings? We need some evil up in this bitch…we’ll start small how about a kid’s birthday party?

My only hope is that Lyle proves to be more treacherous and lecherous than Lockon Mk I. Right now there is enough to show that Lyle is lying and hopefully the raep of Feldt will cement his status as a potential future threat now that he has hit on vowels and made the latter dere dere coupled with bagging Hannibal Haptism in the last bit. I am rather ticked off that Mariana did not even so much as bumped her empty head as she stood meekly behind Setsuna in Gundam 00 as it was flying fancy. I think we are headed for a romance between Princess Poverty and Jihad-kun with the subtlety of a suicide bomber at café. It may well end up worse that Heero and Releena given how much of a bigger wet blanket Mariana is and how Setsuna is not even saying he will kill Releena Mariana. Still I look forward to seeing Setsuna fans cry out in anguish once Mariana turns their little Jihad-kun into a sensitive guy who can’t kill, writes poetry, and hands out teddy bears. Worse thing to happen to Heero was Relena, I think that for Jihad-kun it will be the same. Seriously though I grow tired of waiting for them to bring back Prince Ali, Patrick, and Bushido Bob and I hope they don’t make them Graham Acre late. We know who they are and they need to be doing something other than warming the bench at this point; especially Ali and Bushido Bob given how both are supposedly spoiling for a fight, Patrick on the other hand must still be struggling to get into the A-Laws, be funny to watch though…

I am hoping it was a test and that next time you DON”T FORGET THE ANTI-BEAM GRENADES.

Lyle pissed off his first waifu.

Please Sumeragi-san tits or GTFO. (Sumeragi elected to GTFO)

Next time it seems that we are in for some more new introductions and an underwater fight, hopefully things will be a bit more troublesome, but I doubt Sunrise will be trying to pull off a Das Boot or Hunt for the Red October. Also when will we see the A-Laws being ultimate evil instead of cops with attitude? It was a prime opportunity to set off a series of bombs in the confusion to kill off Kataron, but no…like some principled police force they put their prisoners in jails and give prisoners clothes and adequate shelter. Really now its Episode 3 and the A-Laws are not even LAPD bad yet… come on Sunrise give me a decent Japanese gulag circa early Showa Period. At least have them beat up a Rodney King or cut deals with Jihad-kun’s alter ego Dicktaro’s record label for some awful gangsta rap. Hell at this point even taking the evidence van for a tour of LA would make them more evil rather than the current level of still principled bad cops who use excessive force against Saji, hell beating up Saji is not even a crime it’s a community service.

Oh Feldt, Lyle does get around…

Monday…

Tuesday… Hell you don’t even want to know who Thursday is…

Calawain’s Fanboyisms

Hmmm, so not too surprisingly it is sugguested that Ribbons is less than human, like Tieria. Unlike Tieria though he’s somewhat nuts and thinks his flamboyant Innovator crew of other non-humans are the only ones that can save the world! Such originality! Woo! And for a supposed “trap” he laid out for CB, it sure got rolled over pretty quick. It’s either poor writing, poor strategy, or done on purpose.

She certainly got an attitude adjustment since last season. Perhaps some sort of “conditioning” in a dark room with just her ojou-sama and a whip. Mmmm, wru doujins.

Bawwwwwww, she needs a slap in the face

Setsuna has also changed quite a bit from last season. So far he’s shown a growing level of maturity, handling things much more logically and with less reckless abandon. Four years on your own can really get you thinking about what you are really doing this all for. Plus, with age comes maturity from a mental standpoint. I like this new Setsuna who is stepping up in a semi-leadership role, not just sitting there quietly pissing everyone off with dirty looks and his Gundam Jesus impressions.

Whiplash on that must be a bitch. Anyways, nice plan Lelouch Sumeragi, although the physics of it and the five minute timer were wildly underexplained. Although if lasers can be dodged I suppose I can let some other physics atrocities pass. I will give her this though, it was at least an exciting strategy that guaranteed fast action without too long of a buildup.

Wow, her showing up was a total surprise! I am kind of curious what kind of past the space loli has, maybe her and Allelujah were BFF in the grade school for genetically modified super soldiers. I wonder who pulled whose pants down.

Ahhh, my lover! What happened to her?! Did that dirty Kurdish boy taker her?!

Congratulations Setsuna, you bagged a woman who will sit aboard the ship waiting for you to come back for a little R&R *wink* on the down low. She is a bit emotionally unstable at times, but that’s not uncommon with mecha females and they seem to be reproducing just fine. I find it hilarious that at this point Setsuna of all people probably has the greatest chance for getting laid out of everyone on board.

For some reason, Darbur Oh fills me with much RAGE. At least in Geass you kinda rooted for the UFN/OotBK thanks to much use of tactics with a liberal help from Geass to at least get said tactics rolling. In G00 it’s just plot hax and WOOO!!!! I HAS BIGGAH BOOM! I ISH WIINNN!!!!

    (shakes head)

Maybe it’s just lack of Macross Frontier but I’m seriously not feeling the mecha pr0n nor love for many of the characters there so far in the second season.

    sigh…..

Hopefully Ali and/or Patrick(and ensuing episodes of “When Patrick met Katie”)can lend me faith to love this series which my mecha loving friend reveres..

Awesome episode… so far I’m liking the pacing and characters a lot more than I did in the first season. And this episode served up a healthy portion of peons in mobile suits blowing up, perfectly satisfying my craving for that this week.

I have comments for a couple of things you guys mentioned… the reason the A-Laws didn’t use the anti-beam grenades seen in episode 2 is likely because they only work in space, where the material inside the grenade stays dissipated in a roughly sphere shape. On Earth, gravity would just make the stuff fall to the ground. So I suppose it’d be useful for the few seconds until it falls like rain.

But about the 5 minutes they negated the particle beam… yeah, I don’t know about that. If it was a laser, the water mist kicked up could have worked to refract and partially dissipate the energy. I guess. But a particle beam is a stream of particles… a little bit of mist in its way isn’t gonna do jack. I’m thinking that “particle beam” may be the wrong translation. Or maybe it takes 5 minutes to towel dry the particle beam cannon off, who knows.

A question that has no answer yet that I’ve been wondering since the first episode… who is the third “Tierra” in the storage/gestation tank in the from the opening? There’s Tieria, Regene the girly guy/female Innovator, and… who?

Is it just me or did Soma Peries go from so-so the last couple of episodes to a total hottie with this episode? =D

I like how when Sumeragi is looking over Lockon’s stats, his code name is given as “Lyle Dylandy” while the name “Lockon Stratos” is the confidential information. Way to go, Sunrise proofreaders!

And despite being locked up without being able to move, Allelujah is still surprisingly fit and able to dodge bullets. I guess that’s why he’s a Gundam Meister and I’m not.

    @Li Shan:
Gundam 00 has this problem from season one 1st epsisode. It has a problem at emotional connection with audience which makes you love the anime.

So , Marina, I nominate you for Setsuna’s mother role. But the main question is: “Who is the father?”.

Some words about rainbow and our new power rangers:
    red – ???
    orange – Alleliujah
    yellow – Mileina
    green – Lockon
    blue – Setsuna
    indigo – ???
    violet – Tieria

I agree with evary’s theory that the anti-beam grenades only work in space, in atmosfere it only work like the chaff or flares anti-missile decoys. But a beam travel at light speed compared to a missile, so I dont think that is to useful carry a bunch of them.

I dont know much about physics but I guess that a particle beam lose/disipate kinetic/thermal/electrical power when advance in liquid matter.

Also, in my opinion the Ptolemaios is a carrier for special ops with only defensive capabilites, like the ridicule pink painted ship of Gundam Seed. Just because a carrier is bulky dont means that it can go tanking like a battleship.

Agree that the size of the tsunamy that dwarf tanks and MS is not credible. If they taked more time for a litle explanation with grapic display in the A-LAWS ship, showing the meteorite like impact with the GN field avoiding desintegration on the impact, maybe they make it look a litle more credible.

After 3 episodes i feel like they try to show so many characters on screeen that some things dont get enogh time. These have an overpopulation of characters or lots of secondary characters get to much time. I hope that sunrise start to kill lots of characters and show poverty, corruption, censorship, terrorism, torture, executions or anything, because I start to get bored of these almost clean mecha conflitc.

Beams shouldn’t work in the atmosphere at all, ignoring the fact that for under strategic loads, an energy weapon is blatantly inferior to a ballistic one in terms of efficiency, cost effectiveness, range, and lethality. Gundam technology is for the lulz; ever notice how they insist on giving their mecha legs in… space? The human form simply isn’t a viable space-frame, and the POINT of a mecha is that it can walk, run, jump and climb… none of which really matter in space.

Ignoring the technobabble, I agree with Li Shan, Gundam 00 tactics are actually somewhat insulting to anyone with a rough understanding of military engagements. While it certainly is possible to engage a much larger force with a better trained, intelligently deployed, higher tech strike force (for a short time, anyway), you don’t do it by STANDING IN THE OPEN AND LETTIN’ URE SHEELDZ TAKEZ THE DAMAGE. Honestly, if they had that kind of technology, you’d think they’d mass produce it, not build four LEETZ MECHAZ to make all the little kids who watch this show powertrip.

With all of that said, I, as an American, am feeling INCREASINGLY uncomfortable with this show, as it continues to rag on my homeland and continues to make terrorists and moral absolutists, neither of whom seem to have any real understanding of what it takes to govern a people, look like leet heroes who have better stuff. Honestly, I understand the whole Japanese sentiment against the US, yeah, we bombed you, but it had to be done, stop fantasizing about our defeat in your media. As if Geass wasn’t enough.

I’m only insulted if I really buy into the idea that this was intended to be taken seriously. 00 more than most series in the franchise is a super robot anime disguised in real robot trappings. Being a fan of both sub-genres of robot shows, all is well.

As for the politics and the supposed intelligence in the plot… not that well done, but good for what somewhat feels like the Dragonball Z of robot shows.

About your last post, i’ll doubt that Setsuna is gonna get laid for two reason:

    1. If you have forgotten, Marina is a Princess and a Muslim (and maybe a religious on) so i doubt She will give in to him.

    2. Setsuna has chosen to preform the sacred promise that all heroes take, Duty over Booty.

    @lucky_huh?
CB existence created this world so if CB wants to stop this madness they should disappear in the end.

CB in season one gave a fear to the world, but didn’t change the hearts of people. And fear brings a tighter control over the world, because the world don’t want that CB appear again and bring back that fear. The world managed to defete CB when they were fighting togerther as one. That’s why they force the other countries to join ESF.

i kind of liked the way the combat was portrayed, those GN-XIII’s still gave tieria a hard time, it was only when the gundams had to escape that they were able to do consistent damage to them, and even then only 3 GN-X suits got properly destroyed during the entire battle, if any units were cannon fodder it was the tierens and that would make sense as they were caught up in the inital confusion of CB’s blitzkrieg assault

granted the tsunami bit was exxagerated, but you have to admit, that much mass crashing to the ocean at high speed would’ve caused a tsunami of some sort

    @skoll

you do realize it probably took CB a very long time to build the original GN drives, hence they could only make 5?
and you do realize he HAD to stand in the open in order to protect the pilot-less 00 gundam don’t you?

  22. skoll

    @blind_dead_mcjones

Then you don’t /fight/ if you only have five GN Drives. You wait until you have more, or you make due with worse equipment. Every conflict in modern history has made use of standardized equipment because the world doesn’t run on movie logic. In accurate representations of conflict, putting on a helmet doesn’t make you insignificant and therefore more likely to die, it stops shrapnel from going into your brain. Fun fact, every ace in real life achieved his kills with mass-production units.

To put it bluntly, yeah, it IS a powertrip. You simply don’t hope for success when you have a military force consisting four units, each with completely separate capabilities and battlefield roles. There’s not enough flexibility, volume, or density of fire to engage a even marginally more numerous force with only a slight technological inferiority. It might happen once or twice, as it did with the Flying Tigers in China, but these are literally miracles, and cannot be counted upon for strategic victory.

And you missed my point entirely about the standing in the open. My point wasn’t that it didn’t have to be done in that plan. My point was that the whole plan was wonky, and a real plan wouldn’t create a situation where that would be necessary. This plan is analogous to creating a vehicular assault in real life wherein you part a personnel carrier in the open completely exposed to missile attack and, for some reason, instead of moving the drop point closer or something, decide to park a second vehicle in front of it and ‘shoot down incoming missiles’. Which doesn’t happen.

Basically what I’m saying is that this show is for the lulz, but unlike Geass, it makes thinly veiled pretentions to modern geopolitics and like Geass, it features lots of mecha porn despite the fact that most of it /doesn’t even fit/.

EDIT: Amusing fact, Soma’s pistol doesn’t have a rear sight, good luck with that, test-tube baby.

awww come on guys…The tidal wave wasn’t exagerated at all. the CB ship is about wat? say 100m or more. If its falling at a REALLY high speed like Mach 5+ its gonna make a decent sized wave. Now look at where the prison is located. Its likely that the geometry of the surrounding bay increased the height of the tsunami. “Because mega-tsunamis are defined as beginning with a high wave height, all historically known tsunamis awarded the mega-tsunami designation have originated very close to the shore, or in deep, narrow inlets, lakes or other water passages where the water had few options for dispersal” (wikipedia)

AND i bet that there is a sharp rise in the sea floor since it looks like that prison is some kinda volcanic island. so CODE GEASS physics? NO! thats real life baby! All u Sumeragi haters are once again forced to fall before her genius. :-)

Lyle is definitely going to cause some troubles in the future. Not just in likely putting his Kataron loyalties above CB, but also what’s going on in that preview. We only need three Gundams, destroy the fake!

jedikid you echo my thoughts on the matter

however, there is something that amuses me, and that is the people who complain about this series for it’s ‘lack of realism’ they do realize that they are asking for realism in a show about giant robots that run on pixie dust flying around and shooting lasers at each other, don’t they?

    @ skoll,

funfact, i know the world doesn’t revolve on movie logic, i know that the military uses standardized equipment, i know that helmets are to keep your head safe, and that aces used mass-production equipment, but this show isn’t real life, it’s FICTION, more specifically science fiction, if the series was trying to be 100% realistic they wouldn’t even have gaint robots at all as they are too impractical for military use.

Considering the Prisons shape, there wasn’t much in the way of choice in regard to where to park the 00 gundam, there was either, outside of the prison, or the giant hole in the center of the prison, parking in the hole would’ve severely limited escape routes, and to put it blunty would’ve been like shooting fish in a barrel for the A-LAWS

and the plan was literaly thought up on short notice, of course there will be flaws here and there.

@Flareknight – Well, I hope you’re right. as a double agent lyle definitely cause trouble for CB and we stil dont know the true intentions of kataron, what if kataron doing some bad things in the future and insisting CB for use Gundams to destroy kataron. and what lyle should do???? against CB for defending kataron?? or stay loyal to CB instead kataron….

@Dark messiah – Its that kind of dilemma that I’m expecting Lyle to experience at some point. Sure right now goals are aligned with Kataron and CB. But I very much doubt it will stay that way for all that long. Eventually Lyle will have to make a call since CB and Kataron will probably go against each other at some point. Right now the choice to go with Kataron is clear. Only thing tying Lyle to this group is his brother who isn’t around anymore.

Funny, maybe for once the mecha don’t have to run on pixie dust and be piloted by little runts whose balls were either removed as per standard castrato procedure or haven’t dropped yet. My point isn’t that I’m suddenly expecting realism in Gundam 00. Not at all. I am leveling a holistic accusation at the entire series as I follow it to deconstruct its patently Japanese socio-polico-philosophical-military gaffes.

Coincidentally, guess what my favorite Gundam series was? 08th MS.

Returning to my point, I don’t understand why they had to crash into the damn building in the first place, then disembark such a long way. They had an exact map of where everyone was in the whole damn facility, and they couldn’t, I dunno, park a little closer? Like… right in front of the damn cell? As for ‘being thought up on a short notice’, that’s no excuse for the ‘tactical’ genius of that sow, Sumeragi; /I/ just thought of a better plan and I’m just an aficionado.

I am waiting, /waiting/ for the day Gundam stops feeling the obligation to include some of their more commonly used devices (which they have only dared to do outside of primary series in movies and OVAs) like the teenage pilots, like the absurdly powered ‘prototype’, like the annoying tendency to parallel itself to historical wars. Original Federation versus Zeo was World War II. In 08th MS team it was Vietnam. SEED was a bizarre World War II again, and 00 is the ‘War on Terror’. If not, perhaps they at least try not to make a series with a hypocritically pacifist philosophy while reveling in violence.

Ah, one more thing. I could give the least bit of a crap about ‘realism’. Nobody cares about ‘realism’, it’s never realistic unless it’s actually history. What I /do/ care about is verisimilitude. I made this point in Crusader’s 08th MS post, and verisimilitude is /believability/, not realism, meaning a story makes sense within it’s own context. For example, if you take the base fact that ‘giant humanoid weapons of war exist’, a verisimiliar work of fiction will have everything else fall into place smoothly rather than have its audience headdesk. Ultimately, the reason I bring this up is because Gundam 00 clearly /strives/ for this, unlike Geass which clearly stopped taking itself seriously. It /tries/. It just fails, the philosophy winds up being pretentious, the ‘tactics’, ludicrous.

…Ok that was harsh, it really isn’t THAT bad, but I feel my point stands.

now i see the point your making, and i’ll concede defeat on the matter

i think that the reason why they use such common devices as you put it along with teen pilots and super powerful prototypes, etc. stems from the fact that a) like all TV execs the bigwigs in charge are afraid to move outside their comfort zone and take chances and b) cos such stuff appeals to most adolencents and they are the ones (well some of them anyway) who buy the merchandise like the gunpla figures and so on. and as of consequence the ones in charge of the show stick to the formula that they set up when the gundam series first started.

as for deconstructing the series, there is a site (if you don’t know about it already) that you should check out. tvtropes.org, it pretty much lists every trope or plot device used in media. you should check it out sometime (again assuming you don’t already know the site)

btw the realism comment wasn’t directed at you it was directed at those outside of this blog who complain about it not being like full metal panic or votoms, gasaraki, macross etc etc

there is one thing i wish for fro mthe series though, and thats for the standard mass-produced flag to get way more airtime than it did in season 1

I’m glad we could come to an understanding. Sorry if I came on a little hard, I just have this oppressive set of pet peeves that prevents me from enjoying almost anything. ESPECIALLY fantasy, fantasy like the ‘Inheritance Cycle’ by Christopher Paolini (read: Eragon), which I have come to dub ‘World of Warcraft Fantasy’.

And yes, I have been to tvtropes.com, I’ve wast- I mean, dabbled around on the site. It’s like the new Wikipedia…

By the way, how WAS Gasaraki? I’ve heard totally polarized views on it, and heard something to the extent of ‘Noh-powered Mecha’.

It’s ok, i have a similar problem when it comes to enjoying things, cynicism can be such a blessing yet such a curse at the same time, but then again without it we wouldn’t be able to distinguish good from crap.
I’m glad we could come to an understanding too.

Gasaraki is somewhat of an aquired taste, you’ll either like it or you won’t, pretty much there are two mecha types (the type 17 raiden and the Ishtar mkII, both of which are about 4 meters high) being developed by rival companies (the mecha are colloquially referred to as either Tactical Armours (TA’s for short) or fakes (depending on which company is doing the talking), whilst others call them either giant robots (usually surprised civilians) or bipedal weapon systems (news readers)) yet at the same time these two companies are both trying to contact something called the gasaraki, there’s also alot of political ongoings and some mysticism involved which i cannot explain even if i tried.
as for the mecha themselves they are quite believeable (exampes include, only being useful for urban combat or riot supression, the joints will seize up if a little sand gets in them, can only operate for an hour on battery power, no sword fighting, (though a kugai does try and fight a TA with a sword, and fails) can only mount 2 weapons at a time (usually a smoothbore cannon (or instead a machine gun) on one hardpoint, and 2 missiles on the other) the mechas themselves are at the mercy of units such as fighter jets, requires extensive logistics and backup support to operate efficenty in combat, uses built-in winches to get to higher ground, no jetpacks, etc)

anyway the secret behind how the TA’s work is due to the artifcial muscles they use in their limbs, these muscles originate from the kugai, which are these demonic looking things clad in armour with noh masks for faces (you only see two of them in the series) these kugai are also what the mecha are based on.

my best advice would be just to watch the series and them form your own opinion.
