CCS, anyone? The New Year has arrived!
To end of 2008 (With so many ups and downs) and hope 2009 will be a better year for everyone living in this planet. Economy crisis, natural disasters, political crisis and global warming, GO AWAY! (Well, except for global warning. You can’t get rid of that.)
Note: Yes, the list is biased (Because 6 out of 10 are based on seiyuu cast). If you did not see your favorite anime in this list, either I really hate them or I did not watch it at all because I think that group of shows does not suit my taste or I don’t even bother to watch them ’cause of time restraints OR I think the show is inappropriate for me (With lots of fanservice and the show is irrelevant to the point I shut my brain down and pick up another series that is worth spending my time on it.)
Now on my top 10 anime shows in 2008! If it sucks, remember: it’s only my opinion not yours. (Spoilers ahead)
10. Toradora!
Vanilla good, parades bad! Thought the show was good at first but as it goes on, it doesn’t look the same anymore. (And you know how I don’t like female leads but rather the co-female leads in romance flicks, the same applies to To Aru Majutsu no Index where Misaka and her ‘Sisters’ rocks my socks). Anytime I would have to drop this series, but if anything goes beyond my expectations, then I will leave it for it to rot.
9. Chocolate Underground
Despite its short 13 5 minutes clips, it was pretty interesting in the end (Though I find the ending pretty rushed). Chocolate Underground is about England or whatsoever country being taken over by the Good for You Party and bans chocolate everywhere people go. Everywhere people go, the Good For You Party is always on the watch to brainwash innocent people with it’s ‘Eat Healthy, Chocolate is bad for you and you will die once you eat them’ commercials and messages. Fortunately, hope is not lost. Our heroes, Huntly, Smudger, Louise, Blade and their friends secretly make chocolate underground and plans to overthrow the Good For You Party. And you know what, CHOCOLATE IS VERY GOOD FOR YOU! (Stupid grin shown, still finding the music for the ED song, it was pretty catchy.) Watch the show only for the pure fun, overthrowing the Bad Good For You Party.
8. Gundam 00
I AM GUNDAM. Yes, that’s my favorite line in the series. Want me to say it again? I can see Crusader’s angrily rambling about stuff in the series. I AM GUNDAM!
7. D.Gray Man
Why does it has to end?? But fortunately, the manga will be on hiatus until Hoshino gets well again from her sickness (Yes, I’m calling Hoshino a ‘She’). Why end the series???? Still waiting for manga to be back, but until then, HOSHINO, GET WELL SOON! I wasn’t so pleased at the action scenes for the last few episodes but I know they did their best to get it done. It’s still good, unlike all those other Shounen Jump series (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach etc.) after years the show still keeps running with fillers all over.
6. World Destruction
Probably you guys won’t agree with this and no one will stop me from writing this to World Destruction. Yeah, nothing seem to interest me (Save the Toppi jokes for later) until the last episode when Kirie unleashed a godly power within himself. I enjoyed the show more than Vampire Knight, ’cause I didn’t took it rather seriously until the last episode itself. It’s coming out in the USA as Sands of Destruction in Fall 2009. The title change? Probably to some weird censorship problems, perhaps?
5. Vampire Knight (Guilty)
The most spoken anime series in the blog by me. Sure, they either cut away or changed some parts from the manga, it was sure very interesting in the end (Except with all the emo going on within Zero.) Kaname still wet my socks anyways. First season sucks and goes too fast, second season gets better but it’s moving too slow. Too bad I won’t get to see Kaien meeting with Juuri before that. Music for first season got my pants wet with urine, but it gradually improves for the second season that the Rondo sounds a lot like a rondo, and ED finally has a proper ending, unlike the first one.
Note: Rido is bad at raping lolis, especially the Kuran Princess.
4. Soul Eater
I found the plot interesting, despite being a little complex with all the commotion going on when the series goes on to infiltrate Baba Yaga’s castle and face on Archane with Medusa ganging up with the Shibusen students. Also, not only the plot interest me, the characters too leave a good impression in my mind. Right now I’m not watching the show because up till now, it shows everything that is in the manga. I’ve heard that one of the recent episodes is an anime original (Save for the Excalibur jokes for later.), so I might pick it up again if I had the time.
3. To Aru Majutsu no Index
The last series I have picked up before 2008 ends. I was just bored with my boring life with boring stuff getting in my way when I decide to pop any random episode of To Aru Majutsu no Index into the screen. And boy I got hooked! (Again) The animation was awesome, the story was interesting, the characters are hilarious and aren’t too extreme in any ways. But in my opinion, I had a liking on Misaka rather than the female lead, Index. If you don’t agree with me with that, then that’s too bad. Just check the story out and believe me, it leaves you wanting the next episode to arrive.
2. Skip Beat!
Sometimes when I feel low or when I feel exhausted after a day out (Either school or leisure), first thing I did was to press the right buttons and watch this absolutely hilarious series. It was only Impz who decides to write this series that got me intrigued. Originally I think this show won’t go any further because of it’s very ’90 character design and silly plot but after watching a few episodes, I got hooked all of a sudden and waited for the next episode in anticipation. The only problem I have is that episode 10 has too many chibi faces so I hope Hal Film Maker (The studio working on this series) could cut down just a little on the amounts of chibi faces shown in Skip Beat! Check out and you see what I mean.
Ready for the top anime in my list, it’s…(Drum rolls)
1. Time of Eve (Eve no Jikan):
Let’s face it. Eve no Jikan is over the top, for me, I guess. With all the unusual theme the studio set on and the characters’ personality being realistic, I think Time of Eve gains my attention when I first browsed on anime series in Crunchyroll. Then when they had Time of Eve on the website, I thought it would be another robot anime series. But boy, after the 1st episode ended, it kept me wanting more and it’s so much different from other anime series (It’s something I’ve been trying to find for a long time.). Right now, only the first half of the series is out (Episodes 1 to 3, episode 4 will be arriving in Spring 2009) and unfortunately we have to wait every 2 months for an episode to be released to the public (The only fault I’ve found out, but it’s worth waiting). So viewers, if you haven’t watch it, I highly recommend you to watch this series. You will never feel the same for anime again after watching this wonderful series. It brings you another perceptive to see what is the future like, treating androids like everyday tools and all that. It makes you think about things for a second in your busy lives.
Sorry I did not name other good anime like Code Geass (Apparently I have a great dislike after some time), Macross Frontier (I only like the music, rest of the stuff was mediocre to me), Strike Witches (I have a great dislike with fanservice that shows panties etc., did I mentioned that twice?), kure-nai (I truly like the show, but not appealing enough), Kuroshitsuji (I hate it how the show drifted from the manga after the Jack the Ripper arc) or Kannagi. If you aren’t on my side, I can’t stop you. I personally think the short-listed ones are really good. I would miss writing all these when I’m gone, there won’t be any girls left (Well Briar is on hiatus and 13Sugars only pops out of nowhere occasionally to write her posts). Don’t worry (For those who are reading this), it’s not a quit post. I’ll be back very soon after my paper ends in Fall 2009 but my love for anime/manga/video games will stay stagnant in my heart always. So farewell, everyone (Including my supporters)
THAT Blog will be dominated by boys for now. Wait till I come back from papers, and see what I can do to them. Hahaha… So, see you in 11 months.

Why is Chocolate Underground in your list? Haha. Oh wow.
A happy new year to you too!
its your opinion, naf said =_=”
Good luck! Gonna miss you.
oh boy oh boy oh boy. you used the word boy 2 times in one article! You are a horrible writer.
Happy new year
Reversse Vampire,
~Kuroshitsuji is going back to the manga. So it’s safe to watch it if you want.
~ I’m glad someone else realizes the awesomeness that is D.Gray-Man. I hope Hoshino-chan gets better soon. It’s no fun being sick.
~ I pray that your soul survives the onslaught that is school papers.
Eve No Jikan is no question my favorite series of the year as well, despite the fact that it’s not finished.
Eve no Jikan is a very nice choice. Perhaps not for first place in my book, but it is indeed a series worthy of attention.
In any case, best of luck with your papers and Happy New Year!
YAY Skip Beat and Vampire Knight!!! =D
I do like a lot of the stuff on your list, but I can’t say Eve no Jikan would be my top pick. Still, lots of good stuff there
I love Skip Beat and D. Grayman from your list! :}
wow, I’ve only watched 1/2 than what’s in ur list o.O, and I don’t know what’s the best series for me in 2008 cuz last year was quite dry for me ^^;;. Here’s hoping 2009 will be better “\(^o^)/”
What about CODE?!?! Lulu deserves to be in the list!!
GAHHH i just got in to d.gray ans now i find out the writer is sick!!!! GET WELL SOON OR SO HELP ME I WILL FORCE HER TO GET WELL!!!
i say you’re list is out of date. Even if they where, there still not as good as some i’ve seen,>,~ need to do an update ya-know. and i think that Blood + and Black blood brother’s need to be in there. ^,^ @};–
i’m just wondering…why both naruto and bleach didn’t put to the list?…here in phil. both those animes are very popular..but when i saw vampire knight on the list..well, i consider it one of the best anime shows…hehe…
man!!…i haven’t seen most of the shows on the list!!…being here in the philippines is so lame!!..can’t have the latest updates on anime..
i love how you make all these favourites where you just state what you love instead of the most popular series who just everyone (mostly…i guess) likes e.g. naruto bleach CG VK (you did mention it actually…haha).
i found it very surprising to find time no jikan on your #1, because it was an unexpected choice since it was so short and everything. but like you, i love that series, the animation is beautiful and the stories as well. i loved how the company tried to link androidxhuman love there, it was so complicated yet funny.
the thing i found most surprising about this post is that you put down world destruction! i personally love too much to bits, but everyone who i’ve introduced the series to it was plain crap. i loved it since the first episode, altho didnt expect that much from it (i hate anime humans with dog or cat ears whatever) but the theme song and the interesting plot was catchy. like you said, the last episode was great, (ok now i’ve forgotten abt the ending tho…) but i wished they could have dragged it on a BIT longer since it was so sudden and abrupt that he had this power. (i forgot, what is it?!) it would have been much nicer if the series had hinted the power in the beginning, altho it would be with the ball glowing and everything. (it seems that i kind of remember now!)
i love your list (i have to say it again) and i’m heading to watch gundam now
i love vampire knight from the list, it is awesome.
Is soul eater better than vampire knight becasue i find that vampire knight should be 3rd or snd
