I think I’ve watched the OP about 10 times by now, it’s rather addicting. Regardless, if you have the same strange tastes as me you must watch this show. So far it’s the best comedy out this season. Plus you are allowed to fap to the trap, and you don’t have to rhyme while doing so.
Is it bad that I’m getting aroused?
My first reaction to the OP was, “wow, where can I get some of whatever these guys are on?” But then I strangely became addicted to it. I dig Yu Kobayashi’s singing voice, and I was really surprised to hear her going solo. The tracks she did on the various Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei music CDs turned me onto her great singing voice. The pace of the song and the out there animation of the OP help define this show as way out of the norm. So many lovecoms and bishoujo anime have the same cheesy-type pop songs with sakura petals or fluttering school uniforms. The OP helps define this show as something out of the ordinary, and it’s wonderful.

Crusader and I were highly excited at the prospect of an actual yuri harem, but as well all know this really isn’t to be in the end. The yuri is somewhat of a plot device to get to the hetero end. However, I will be able to derive some enjoyment out of their mocking of shows such as Marimite.
There is so much nastiness amongst the characters in this show and I love it. For the same reasons I love the fights between Ami and Taiga in Toradora I’m really looking forward to possible sparring between Mariya and her osana najimi. The foul language that both seem to employ right off the bat spells some serious future awesomeness.

Personally, I’m a big fan of the big racks. A superb second episode that has definitely hooked me for the long run. I had watched the first episode multiple times in the long break between the first and the second in anticipation. You really can’t go wrong with moe traps, lesbians, and trash-talking deadpan maids. Definitely picking this one up for the season.
Crusader’s Adoration of Kanako

The truth is indeed terrifying.
Perhaps it’s the alcohol, but I am not liking this Mariya fellow, I my mind I cannot help but wonder how great it would be if the raging lesbian that is Kanako was let loose upon the school with a Federation Permit. Still since it is plain that Mariya cannot see the greatness of mammary glands I here by revoke his manhood, he’s a classic example of an infiltrator that was lost in his role. Let the fate of Mariya be a lesson to Mako-cakes, mammary glands are the most wonderful thing in the world for God made them so that babies can be fed in their infancy no matter the economic climate, and without the female bosom I doubt we should ever see babies ever again, that would be a tragedy as children make the world a brighter place. I commend Mariya’s soul to the lost and the damned and here by declare that in accordance with the wishes of Mariya that we hence forth refer to it as a she. I am sorely disappointed at how Kanako is unable to work her yuri magic upon the rest of the cast, but I can always dream I suppose. I wonder if I am the only one who wishes to be rid of Mariya and have a full on yuri harem animu.

I do however have much praise for Kanako in pursuing her yuri lover, whoever that and however many there may be. I fear that in the end we might be saddled with a hetero ending, but I keep out a small flame of hope that Mariya gets a gender reassignment operation and we get a BEST END for Kanako which would be a yuri harem. With any luck this age gap might prove a saving grace as it prevents Mariya from interdicting Kanako when she starts making passes at Ryuuken-sama, Kiri-an, Yuzuru, or Momoi-chi. I admit freely that Kanako does strike quite a handsome figure, and it is good to know that there are a few that have expressed some interest in Kanako. May they deliver Kanako from Mariya.

Yuri harem for the win!
Stupid Mariya, making me confused, making me want to walk the straight path again. And there is the matter of Ryuuken-sama having the same seiyuu as Amane from Strawberry Panic. Nonetheless, Maria holic is turning out to be the best anime for the winter season. Cannot wait to read more of your and Crusader’s reviews for the rest of the show.
More Matsurika would have made this post better. That’s my advice for next time. I agree though, the nastiness is one of the great things about the show!
I worry about how far the nastiness can carry the show before it gets formulaic (like I think sayonara did a bit).
I actually like Mariya… I perceived him as being the source of mandatory masculinity in this show, ironically enough. The man is at least competent and confident. Kanako is, conversely, somewhat overly lusty. She reminds me of a typical harem lead in that she’s literally supposed to be a stand-in for the viewers’ desires, with the added bonus that she’s attractive as well. I don’t hate her. But Mariya’s motivations and Lelouch-esque mastery of manipulation is more interesting.
Ryuuken is, of course, enormously sexy. No argument there.
Ah, one more thing, in the OP, did Mariya play a maid like a guitar??
The OP is so bloody fuckin awesome, whoever made it can now have all of my firstborns PLUS my secondborns as well.
What makes this show special for me is Mariya’s (not so) subtle sadistically treatment of Kanako and… well… most of people around him. Usually, I hate it when I see a man abuses a woman (both emotionally and physically). However, I am somehow fine about this show. The OP should say it all.
Without a Mariya we wouldn’t have a blackmailing jackass who makes Kanako look slow, now, would we?
Then again, I think it’d be better if Mariya was really revoked his manhood and had become a woman. He looks better as one anyways.
The OP was highlight for me… it was so out there that it made the rest of the episode a little boring by comparison.

I can never get tired of the OP. Literally. It makes no sense, yet I can’t help but feel that it makes all the sense in the world….
Admittedly I wasn’t so into the first episode, but this episode convinced me to put on my “to-watch” list. I’m glad I haven’t read the manga because watching this without any knowledge of what’s going to happy is fun.

RyuukenxKanako all the way. No, it’s not gonna happen, but Ryuuken is almost more of a victim than Kanako, simply because she doesn’t really know what’s going on.
I expect a gender or emotional turnaround from Mariya near the end of the series — unless, of course, the manga is ongoing. Then we get nothing. (Not really true — the trip will have made it worth it.)

This episode got me hooked once Mariya was exposed as a man! This anime is a comedy and we’ll all love to see some gender confusions and jokes arising due to misunderstanding of genders, or am I the only one?
Anyways, the nastiness of all the characters make for some of the most enjoyable parts of the show!
And I believe the character of Mariya is a sadistic boy forced to become a woman and so wants to win all females… hence his rivalry with the student president and ‘torture’ of Nanako…
I like the characters here =D And will also make this anime as my must-watch show of the season!
