Maria+Holic OP: SHAFT fapping Goodness (in HD)

Must resist….urge to Photoshop….words out…

Some OP’s are so good that makes you watch it over and over again. That happened several times with me with OP’s from anime such as Shikabane Hime, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Tetsuwan Birdy Decode, xxxHOLiC or Kurenai, just to name a few.

But Maria+Holic is godly. I can’t describe is using mere words, you guys have to watch it yourself (the pic above should be a good enough teaser…). After all, it’s from SHAFT, the gods of Photoshop filters…

Vids after the jump, both in HD and SD quality.

EDIT: The old videos were fixed and replaced for new ones. Unfortunely, it’s the RAW version this time.

HD Version (may take a while to load)

To the extent of my knowledge you’re the only person I’ve heard who thinks highly of Kure-nai’s OP.

For Mariaholic’s, the animation was interesting and I liked the vocals – they were really quirky (WAKU WAKU FU~). It was also interesting how they used our American [or so I think] “coming out of the closet” phrase, which, in Engrish, was too weird not to love.

I liked the contrast between the palm-muted distorted guitar and the synths. It was a nice blend, kind of reminiscent of the Zetsubou songs that screamed “WTF”.

I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you over the orgasming nosebleed.

still don’t understand the nosebleed symbolism.

Does it represent body temperature overdrive (which doesn’t create nosebleeds)? Or an orgasm (wtf)? Because I don’t see the connection between these factors and nosebleeds.

olivia – blood rushes to the head and the pressure gets to be to much so its just bursts out, or something.

@olivia: Nosebleeds are related to a japanese folk-belief that guys will increase blood pressure when sexually excited, leading to nosebleed, since the blood vessels in the nose are very fragile and breaks often. The more bloody, the more horny the guy is.

I can’t claim to opening wasn’t neat, but it wasn’t as amazing as you said in my book. It was neat for the first 30 seconds then got kind of dumb.

Actually, the origin of the nosebleed thing can be found in City Hunter. There is an episode where Ryo couldn’t get his c*ck hard and all that excess blood came out of his nose. It was quite far into the series and never before that there was a mention of the nosebleed thing, so it’s quite possible that sketch became popular and after a while lost its context.

Aha! And I thought it was just me.
I love to repeat Shikabane Hime and xxxHOLiC’s OP.

This op just makes me laugh, it’s so good.
Personally, the new Soul Eater op by tommyheavenly6 is addicting.

It’s like the opposite of White Album’s OP, one’s epic visually and the other vocally.

@nonguin: Nah, the nosebleed thing was already popular before City Hunter. I certainly remember it in Dragonball.

This OP is goddamn too addictive. How am I supposed to concentrate on the series if I keep rewinding back? Jeez, SHAFT.

I’m gonna sue you. At first, I didn’t like the song, but because you said the song was catchy, I played it again…and now I can’t get it off my head lol.

    It’s a nice opening…

Love the OP. I can’t get enough of it.

I especially can’t get enough of the rockin’ Matsurika guitar.

Damn, I gotta get me one of those.

I don’t need a nosebleed to tell me there will be some ecchi thoughts. Show it more “artistically” by actually killing that “creature of light” to prove your love, ne, Sunako…I mean Kanako.

This OP was good in its own way. Not only do they use different animation techniques, they used vibrant colors similar to Toradora’s OP and ED because we all know Mariya looks better as a blonde than Kitamura.

I give SHAFT credit to make an amusing and full of fanservice in their OP. Let’s give them another round of applause or more nosebleeds, whichever doesn’t require unneccessary amounts of blood transfusions.

The opening truly amazed me when I first watched it. I’m like, woah, how long have I not seen such a cool one? The last one I thought was great was Great Teacher Onizuka’s first opening (Driver’s High by L’Arc~en~Ciel) which was purely in black and white colour. Sometimes without the other colours an opening can be really nice as well, that’s what I think.
