Gundam 00 S2 – 24: Ich hatt' einen Prinz Ali

Now that Prince Ali is in Future Century otherwise known as Valhalla, he decided to enter the Gundam Fight…

In the first place, I deny everything but what I have all along admitted, the design on my part to free the slaves… The word of God teaches me that all things whatsoever I would that men should do to me, I should do even so to them. It teaches me, further, to “remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them.”… I believe that to have interfered as I have done as I have always freely admitted I have done in behalf of His despised poor, was not wrong, but right. Now, if it is deemed necessary that I should forfeit my life for the furtherance of the ends of Azadistani “justice,” and mingle my blood further with the blood of my comrades and with the blood of millions in that slave country whose rights are disregarded by wicked, cruel, and unjust enactments by the Azadistani occupier, I submit; so let it be done! Let me say, also, a word in regard to the statements made by some of those connected with me. I hear it has been stated by some of them that I have induced them to join me. But the contrary is true… There is not one of them but joined me of his own accord, and the greater part of them at their own expense… Now I have done. I, Prince Ali, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty world can never be purged away but with blood. You may dispose of me very easily. I am nearly disposed of now. But this question is still to be settled, this slavery question, I mean; the end of that is not yet. – Prince Ali to the Trial System, in the aftermath of the GN Burst

Don’t make a mess of it – shoot straight, you retard. – Last words of Prince Ali

Ich hatt’ einen Prinz Ali,
Einen bessern findst du nit.
Die Trommel schlug zum Streite,
Er ging an meiner Seite
In gleichem Schritt und Tritt.
In gleichem Schritt und Tritt.

Eine Kugel kam geflogen:
Gilt’s mir oder gilt sie dir?
Sie hat ihn weggerissen,
Er liegt zu meinen Füßen
Als wär’s ein Stück von mir
Als wär’s ein Stück von mir

Will mir die Hand noch reichen,
Derweil ich eben lad’.
“Kann dir die Hand nicht geben,
Bleib du im ew’gen Leben
Mein guter Kamerad!”
Mein guter Kamerad!

Thoughts:

No summary since I am still mourning the loss of my liege lord Prince Ali and have yet to compose and Epic in his honor. It is a sad day, a tragic day, as the Gundam franchise has lost one of it’s most gifted pilots. Prince Ali joins the likes of Anavel Gato, South Burning, Norris Packard, and Ramba Ral in the Tomb of the Badass Normals. Prince Ali was laid low with a most vile deus ex machina at the moment of his triumph as he tore the hated Lyle, last of the Dylandy Clan, a new ass hole. Just as victory was assured did the GN sorcery conspire against him and his Gundam was shut down while Lyl’e unholy machine remained functional. So it was that the hero of the Kurds the only one who remained defiant unto death against the Azadistani menace succumb to Lyle’s cheap shot, while the idiot rabble sing the praise of Lyle, those who know the truth can only scoff at the prevailing ignorance. Only through a mighty hax did the mighty and noble Prince Ali fall. Thus ended the legend of the only character that sought relentlessly to restore the old ways laid down by Lord Tomino. His death signals the end of the age of Tomino and the coming of the age of the Jesuses, when generations look back to the Golden Age of Tomino they will remember the last man that tried to restore the old ways before the rise of overpowered teenagers that were as bland as dirt.

Yes, today Prince Ali got the first two of his 72 virgins, God was kind enough to reduce their ages.

Welcome to hell Neil. BTW this is Prince Ali’s heaven.

I guess this isn’t going to happen…

I don’t give a toss any more this won’t be anywhere near as great as the Macross Frontier finale, and mostly because Jihad-kun puts Jesus Yamato to shame and what Ribbons pulled out better be the best damn Guncannon there ever was, but still it wasn’t Hi Nu Gundam 00 Raiser nor is it the coolest looking thing EVAR from the waist up. Also the dead started talking… So In the end Louise was not able to become a Gato level Mobile Armor pilot but she did try and to be fair the GN Burst was inevitable since the writers have been relying on deus ex machina since the creation of the Trans Am crutch with they have used again and again. At least the last of All Woman Soma Loving Louise gave one last hurrah and tried to strangle Saji to save the series, it was bold effort worthy of mention. To be fair the writing staff ought to be commended for consistency even if excessive use of the deus ex machina outside of comedy is the last refuge of a writer afflicted with writers block or in our case the first refuge of inept writers who can’t seem to do things in any other way. It was expected that Jihad-kun would either have another Trans-Am trick or for once they surprise us and kill people off. In then end even they killed people off the dead started talking, and I thought Minovsky particles were broken at times.

Indeed all Billy wants is some Sumeragi lurvin…consent is optional.

Nice try Lasse, but your no Flag Fighter…

Thing is Howard Mason is cooler than you…

Ah well it was pretty light show even if Prince Ali was slain through the biggest hax of the season as Arche shut down as Lyle was about to lose, proving that in lieu of developing a pilot from green rookie to hardened vet they can always use deus ex machina and upgrades rather than expend effort to show it. Some how Prince Ali forgot that he specialty was in knife fighting and to his cost Prince Ali drew a gun instead. Still at least Prince Ali had a good run and killed plenty of people before his Yazan powers were simply too much to the pretenders to Tomino’s legacy to bear. Indeed with the ritual slaying of Yazan’s heir and the impending doom of Amuro to the franchise’s second Jesus, Sunrise has made a clear signal that they refuse to be in Tomino’s shadow. Funny how Gundam started out as a mecha series that diverged from super robot shows and the latest trend now is pulling in the opposite direction. Still G Gundam is the best of the Super Robot members of the Gundam franchise and Jihad-kun will never be a cool as Master Asia no matter how much hax Jihad-kun brings (In fact Master Asia could pwn Jihad-kun with a scarf). Well if nothing else they can claim that they wrapped up everything, though as always I disagree with the notion that deus ex machina at this level is a sign of competent or half way decent writing in anything other than a comedy, still there are literary critics who defend its excessive use, but I am not one of them.

Let’s hope you still have some of your old Newtype powers Ribbons.

Oh Tieria, Ribbons didn’t “ask” you to wear a dress to party…

IT WAS MANDATORY!

So the big wishy washy incredibly preachy idealism that reigns supreme in Gundam 00 is that telepathy will bring us all together, anyone who supposes this is both young and naïve or old and incredibly stupid and possibly a hikkomori. First off I can think of plenty of people whom I rather keep my thoughts hidden from and I am sure that you don’t want Dick Cheney probing your mind even if he doesn’t mind you probing his. Secondly I doubt that loli-loving otaku want to be broadcasting their thoughts to their intended targets or the police. Thirdly we already have a communication network that everyone can use, it’s called the internet and it has yet to, and perhaps never will, bring world peace. Fourth I don’t want to hear Al Franken/Ann Coulter 24/7/365. No the critical thing that this shit idea ignores is the problem of respect, even if one understands, the opposition’s respect is never guaranteed. Still telepathy is a wonderful tool of torture there are many whom I would eagerly condemn to share thoughts with Bill O’Reilly mostly since it’d be painful for both. If this were ever possible I’d like to field test it first on anyone who thinks that this would be a good idea. The truth is though if you think about it humans are sick, and you really don’t want to know what other people think, after all I have never met a person who never lied. If anything since the only way to prevent unwanted broadcasting of thoughts is to kill its source. Telepathy is hardly a means to end war, in fact it simply changes the casus belli a bit to include “shut the fuck up” as the basis for a declaration of war.

That’s not a proper stance Lyle…

I suppose Captain Obvious here was just too important to let die, ah well at least they kept his character consistent even if it remained static.

This no Hi Nu, boy. No Hi Nu! (I think those are cannons on the shoulders but we shall see.)

Still it wasn’t all bad, Lasse’s attempt at being Graham Acre was certified FISSION MAILED and Sumeragi will have to put up for Billy (contrary to what an idiot shipper would believe, being with Billy is a fate worse than death). Tieria might be physically destroyed but Desu Yellow can still make love to the primary server and strip for it, though to be honest the server would only over heat for Lockon. Lyle lives and will have to wank off for the rest of his life now that Anew is in another world though he too can try and locate the server with Anew and try some innovado S&M, there will be random electrical shocks me thinks. Andrei gets to live longer to mark the apologists as certifiably insane or otherwise mentally deficient given how Andrei had little development to speak of and is a chauvinist creep who killed his dad for an Ahead.  Also coupled with the most of the protagonist couples and main cast being generic and bland, one has to wonder if this really is a 180 from GSD. I am being overly mean; certainly given the intended audience in mind Sunrise will make a few bucks as otaku everywhere bankrupt themselves getting model kits, me being one of the legions of suckers. Well at least I still have IGLOO, and maybe Gundam 0081 supposing it’s playable and is released in the US.

I wonder what the announcement at the end will be; so far it seems that the 30th anniversary is a huge let down as Gundam 0081 is only confirmed to be a PS3 Game (which better be better than Crossfire) and bad economic times, means only the well off will be able to see the RX-78-7 in all its glory. Besides the end will be a good light show and I want to see Patrick eating pineapple cake at end. Also Bob will embarrass himself one way or another so at least comedy will ensue. Leaderboard is down for a moment of silence to honor the passing of the top player, it will be back tommorrow.

Well Patrick will be back next time.

Well now that both are dead no need to part, eh?

Of course being Japanese and male Saji just had to try and rape Louise…

No, I’ll never join you. You have failed Saji. I am an Otome like Soma before me.

You are unwise to lower your defenses!

You underestimate the power of the Yuri. If you will not get off of me you will be destroyed.

Young fool only now at the end do you understand. Your feeble skills are no match for the power of Yuri. You will pay for your lack of vision.

Now Saji, you will die… (and that’s how it really ended.)

Hi this is Mayu…

Then again we might get Hi Nu gundam 00 Raiser afterall, I am hoping for a good fight. Thank You Comrade Myssa.

Well at least Prince Ali eneded his career on a high note.

    I salute you, Tieria Erde. Turning the tides in favor of CB was possible without his help.

    I’m stunned that Billy willingly assisted Sumeragi to fight the automatons. I thought someone would appear in the middle of the corridor and stab Billy in the back.

    Wow. I have to hand it to Sunrise. They managed to pull an ending out of their rear end that made Code Geass look like a shining paragon of heterosexuality in comparison. I mean, really.

    Industrial-strength magic rainbow pixie dust brings peace to the world… ugh.

    I’m not all that big a fan of Ribbons, in so far as Gundam baddies go, but I cheered when he shot straight through that haze of warm-and-fuzzies at the end.

    First off let me say i paused and bursted our laughing at the sumeragi scene, she not only manages to get billy to become an idiot for a few, she hugs him as an effective meat shield. Lyle > Prince Ali is undefined.

    So Aeolia’s plans were actually sumed up into like 30 secs of dialogue…Really? After two horrendous seasons?

    Sunrise: guys we have to fit something in here, otherwise all the terrorists will die…
    Random Worker: I know! Lets put all of Tieria’s failed abilities together, along with jihad-kuns aoe hax and then fit them all into a half hour segment that turns a lost battle into a ridiculous ending!
    Sunrise: Great idea.

    On a side note for those of you who play SRW, I can’t wait for teh gigantic map attack Setsuna will have, over-powered to the extreme.

    RIP Prince Ali, may he rest in peace and re-live a life of killing lockons in the afterlife.

    Well’s already dead, what more do you want?

    Billy is just that desperate it seems.

    @GT
    Indeed all Jihad-kun needed was a cell phone.

    Sorry I forgot in the midst of my grief, duly noted. Also i have been rewatching Gundam 0083 as of late.

    Yeah, but it feels weird to me…as if it’s not proper.

    @Narrator 1
    In Great Gundam 00 the dead fuck you! Ah Gundam 00 what a series.

    @aeons
    Indeed so the lame plan that was based upon the deaths of billions was for the sake of forcing every one into an un-moderated chat room 24/7/365…I have to say the stupidity makes it terrifying.

    I hope Billy finally gets some action, not som much because he would enjoy it, but Sumeragi wouldn’t.

    I want an Immortal Colosawar ending. ^^

    Besides that, I learned that GN Particles is everything, but the kitchen sink. XD
    Second, Marina and her pedo-group still looked dumbfounded and useless. Third, we now have Innovades. Fourth, Billy is… -_-;; Lastly, yes, Tieria, wearing the dress was MANDATORY, but killing Prince Ali wasn’t!

    summing up epsiode in 2 words: BOOM HEADSHOT!!!

    Overall I quite liked this episode

    I rejoyced at ali’s death, it was long time comming, and all the more better in that it wasn’t just about revenge. It was more about the fact that lyle saw, in that moment, that Ali was irredeemable, and thusly he took the responsibility to remove him from the world. but I’m surprised no one used the “if you strike me down I’ll become more powerful than you could possibly imagine” line in reference to Tieria cos it’s quite fitting.

    nice to see the selective obliviousness present in the haters yet again over the alleged ‘hax’ possesed by 00 raiser, nevermind that it’s special abilities come about from solving the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox, in short, merely an extrapolation of current quantum mechanics as opposed to an entirely made up branch of physics a.k.a minovsky particles, or that it just spewed particles everywhere and everyone else did the rest and sorted themselves out on their own.

    also they weren’t saved by trans am riser burst they were saved by the trial system, all setsuna did was block ribbons’ quantumn brainwaves by accident which in turn allowed tieria to take control of veda

    and to be fair they did ease us into setsuna becoming an innovator rather than just spring it us unawares

    i also didn’t see anyone complaining about the ‘hax’ with the regnant bending beams at 90. angles midflight IN SPACE, or the ‘hax’ in TTGL, or in MF where ranka saves Sheryl from death by magically moving the vajra bugs from her brain to her stomach, or the lambda driver in FMP, or the last scene in chars counterattack where they’re stopping the asteroid, or how the zeta gundam increases it’s power via the souls of the departed, or about newtype powers as a whole…(rambles on)

    plus why the hate on saji? he has got to be one of the most well developed characters in this series, seriously he’s gone from student to pizza delivery boy to engineer to a falsely accused rebel to detainee to gunner to maintenance and finally the pilot of the 0-Raiser, thats quite the CV he has, and praise be he actually pulled the trigger this time

    In closing Yuri is overrated.

    Lol hahahaha Asuki village kid takes first post.

    It’s so nice how in one episode those fucking pistols don’t even scratch paint chips and the next it can blow off the sword arm. That’s before the crutch of Veda too. Inb4nerdexcuseofGNparticlesrunningoutwhichyoucantprove. Though I doubt anyone’s that dumb here anyway to believe Sunrise planned that “depth”.

    And going along with that, it’s nice to see Trans-Am Raiser somehow not one shotting Gadessa and Garazzo despite already having done so previously. Continuity has been reduced to Bleach level. Clearly Trans-Am gives more protection when Fatty Gundam got instant KO’d and so have others with Trans-Am in the past. Not.

    The preview for the Ribbons Gundam is good enough to make this show just 2x shittier than R2. Look at that thing. Sexy! All I ask for is some equally good Strike Freedom poses and maybe some omni directional fang pew pew before you die off to an even greater Kira posing Raiser.

    Lastly, only one guy died this episode, no one from the good team. Personally I love this, because with the complete distortion of this show, you might as well let the good guys get rainbows and ponies and even unicorns too with their lucky charms.

    No potential mecha to troll after this what a shame. CAO CAO CRUSADER? TEN BUX ON ZHANG FEI BEING FAT AGAIN.

    Didn’t anyone else feel agitated when of all people in this series, Marina, ‘realized’ the source of the particles? The person who contributes the least to the show yet is given, by the creators of MSG 00, an overtly melodramatic line as if they think now Marina will receive audience approval as being a ‘significant’ if not ‘essential’ character for the series plot. Who are they trying to fool?

    Whilst I don’t mind the colorful particles, but if their purpose was to drive the message that ‘communication’ and ‘understanding’ brings peace/cooperation, then I’ve only got one thing to say: “Whoop-dy-f*cking-doo.” Aeola is obviously a neo-fascist and I don’t even know what that f*cking term truly means. That’s how ludicrous his ‘plan’ is at the moment. To me anyway. If Sunrise wants to target a younger, less intellectually-developed or critical audience, then buy another bloody plot! Some ‘real’ mecha fights may help too! Hell if you want to sell models, just let them pose throughout episodes.

    One deserved qualification I should add is that MSG 00 may not be as rock-bottom as people find it when we view the series in its entirety, that is from episode 1 through to 50. Code Geass R2 was a bit of a mess, but when viewed together as a whole with its first season, its not that bad but a fitting plot direction, and if you applied some conservative critical appreciation, R2 isn’t the spoiler everyone says. Maybe when viewed as a whole MSG 00 can be redeemed. However, I doubt it. Any thoughts anyone?

    One more thing that MSG 00 ‘Super Sentai’ picture (above, collected within Crusader’s thoughts) would have definitely helped sell models if Sunrise did pull it off. Too damn bad Sunrise didn’t! Had they done it, hell I’d definitely say MSG 00 is worthy to be re-watched because now the series truly comes together – it has lost its pretentious ‘but surreptitiously bastard’ presentation and finally shown us the one consistent theme, hilarity, a true union between script and performance. And well because Super Sentai are soooooooooo cool. Go figure.

    Well this episode was funny to watch. Celestial Beings come back from absolute defeat was expected, however I thought that there would be more deaths than that. Some things I’d like to say in regards to this Episode. First off grats to Saji for being overpowered by a woman. Second of was it just me or did gundam 00 seem like an overly animated picture of Jesus Christ? Either way i sitll choose gundam 00 Jesus doesn’t have GN pixie dust now does he? And lastly Billy has the weakest game for a man EVER. He makes this intricit plan with all this bull shit and trans AM, however the true goal was to simply get a HUG?!?! not even a peck on the cheek or something a hug…..c’mon even Impz is doin better than that. Anywho can’t wait for Maria Holic blog

    @JDMFLCL

    So you watch this like you watch Bleach? Cause I stopped watching Bleach after SS arc, so did I just screw myself by wasting all this time on 00? =[

    KongMing is loved by many, and equally hated by just as much. Cao Cao though is more notorious in a sense, and is more refreshing to take a series after. You also have to factor in what the hell they actually did in their life, and there’s no way Koumei’s biography was as flavorful than Ah-man’s.

    Which is why ROT is so damn hot. It perceives every one so differently than ROTK cliches. It gets rid of the fugly black and white and prejudice, and even the scrub losers of history get to shine, even if it was for a brief moment. That is true entertainment.

    Take my word for it, those growing up reading ROT instead of ROTK (aka next generation of asia) will love it more than ROTK, just like how our generation probably remembers Disney’s Fairy Tales better than say, the ones back ages ago that had gore and guts and disgusting crap that scared lil children of the village.

    Japan needs to understand this, and fix it’s animation industry before the rest of the world catches up and overtakes it, cause a headstart is the only thing Japan has right now.

    @SDS

    Between the Sunrise pull, the fact that there isn’t a single good writer that would write for Sunrise apart from whoever the fuck made Geass (and even that is not without flaws), I think it should be obvious that this show was destined to fail as nothing more than a Shonen mecha.

    Sunrise proved with Code Geass that they are better off producing Variety Shows, that just use mecha to appeal to mecha nerds and gross kids who like the tech/specs but can’t even beat people who don’t know what color Char’s Zaku is in an online Gundam Game. Just like how you will never see super detailed novel worthy fanfic authors who write shit about Halo or World of Warcrack EVER play those games at a COMPETITIVE level (You know, MAKE MONEY? Attend a TOURNAMENT?)

    I just think 00 doesn’t have what it takes to be considered Super Sentai material because it was promoted as a SRSFKNBIZ show. Art style, story, voice acting, everything is about the SRS. Too bad the writing was not at a level where people would take it as SRS.

    The anime industry despite what all you high standards people say, should focus more on garbage like R2 trainwreck or ecchi or whatever the fuck the first 2 episodes of Ride back were about. Stop expecting good stories and plot. You can expect decent characters, just don’t expect the damn setting to make them shine even more without completely destroying the plot. Kind of like Prince Ali here. See how he died? That’s what you get for being too damn awesome compared to EVERYONE ELSE despite being a 1D 16 bit character. That will teach you not to job to the green ranger.

    LOL, Crusader, I must say your commentary through Macross F and Gundam has been the highlight of some of my days. With the Jihad-kun jabs and all the rest I truly enjoy your inside jokes.

    On a side note, what is your opinion about this whole getting the world ready for the coming dialogue? Now, I understand the whole moving to space, creating the sides (space colonies), but this is the second series that has mentioned Aliens, when do you think we will have a Gundam series about invading aliens and the Earth Fed and Zeon have to team up to whoop some you know what?

  22. Posted March 24, 2009 at 8:23 am | Permalink

    Too many miracles in this episode. They just had to go and give Setsuna divine powers. He didn’t even have to do anything while the 00 was in Trans-Am Burst, but his posing around was enough to turn the tides and therefore almost achieve world peace. And then Tieria’s spirit introduces the second miracle that allowed Lyle to get the cheap kill on Ali. Hopefully Ribbons will make things interesting in the last episode before being killed by Setsuna the Messiah.

    Most enjoyable part of the episode: Louise choking Saji to death. Too bad Louise’s drug withdrawal symptoms stopped the punishment.

    The picture where all four Gundams combined into one is hilarious. It’d be awesome if it happens in the finale given Ribbons has a giant mobile armor.

    Personally I give a standing ovation to finally killing off Ali. Perfect finish for a guy who killed plenty outside of a unit to get shot himself. Tieria even got his bit of revenge by shutting Ali down using the trial system. It was about time somebody sent that jerk to hell.

    Personally do think Saji has finally hit the completion of his character. Even finally pulling the trigger to take out a few of those Gaga’s before the blasted Louise’s unit into dust.

    What is almost as entertaining as the episode has been the reactions to it. Plenty freaking out calling hax and miracles.

One is how suits that were destroyed in one fucking hit now can withstand five shots without even a dent, while gimp ass pistols that couldn’t scratch the paint off a Ferrari now blew off half the damn machine in one shot. Two is the amount of village people swarming this site that’s pretty much been devoid of them this whole time.

    The only miracle that could outshine that is if all the smark blogs made their last episode article as if it was a mark posting it. The gauntlet has been laid, which of the 3 of Crusader Eej or Koda will take this challenge? Do YOU have what it takes to satisfy the village idiots and get them in the palm of your hand?

    Also coupled with the most of the protagonist couples and main cast being generic and bland, one has to wonder if this really is a 180 from GSD.

    Other then GSD having tons more recaps, I wouldn’t say they were much different. Both trainwrecks, though I think the characters in GSD were better. 00 doesn’t have a decent female lead at all.

    I would have less problem with how things turned out if it wasn’t shoved down our throats how this was going to be a realistic and gritty Gundam about war and terrorism. At least R2 never once took itself seriously. Though can Sunrise please stop reusing the hivemind plotline in order to stop wars.

    Also @ D=

    Good to hear more Ravages of Time love. It’s the first Ro3K adaptation that not only acknowledges that Sima Yi basically wins the whole Three Kingdoms thing but does the actual, natural approach of treating him as a protagonist (if an eventually anti-heroic one) because of this. Compared to Zhongda’s usual depictions, RoT actually goes out of the way to make him look cool. Gives him a sense of “destiny,” specifically “destined to rule.” This also contrasts with the other protagonist, the seemingly fateless anonymous actor in the “secret history of the Three Kingdoms” (as going by the comic’s premise), whose public false identity would be something of a Shu-tastic spoiler if I mentioned it here.

    While it’s harder to follow and makes less sense if you follow it one chapter at a time, take it one volume or arc at a time and it’s really one of the most entertaining Ro3K adaptations out there.

    If the original Ro3K was historical fiction with the moral and ethical values of the 1400′s tacked on, then RoT is the modern equivalent–historical fiction that contrasts the stereotypical values of Ro3K with today’s more open dialogue on right, wrong, and Utilitarianism vs. Confucianism.

    More so than the original, RoT raises questions about historical perspective and treats its subjects very thoughtfully, even if it’s a bit over-the-top at times.

    You enjoy watching noobs get there ass kicks until they pull speed hacks/aim bots/god mode out of there ass? Who needs skill when you have hacks after all?!

    @D=

    Don’t you know? Guns are only accurate in specific situations. Anyone who has ever held one can tell you that they tend to miss when you fire it at someone with a name. If they don’t have a name or a face for that matter then they are VERY DAMN ACCURATE! Oh also giant laser cannons never hit kill anyone who has a name. The exception are poorly planned out villains. They always die to giant laser cannons. Oh and the sniper will only ever get one kill in a series. And he always misses killing the big main bad guy. Also who shoots a Ferrari? I mean really?!

    BTW I had to look up what smark and mark meant. That would be an interesting read if Crusader took up the challenge.

    @asdf

    That about sums it up. 00 has a pretty horrendous female cast. Hell the most compelling characters in this show were the ones CB was fighting against in season one. Hell even Louise who everyone hated last season has gone through more character development than all of CB combined.

    Yes after one conversation all problems are solved the memories of bitterness all allayed, if only the Israelis and Palestininas could just talk… /sarcasm

    We were promised something more serious when this boondoggle started…but now not so much. Taking responsibility is not what it used to be. I hope Lyle enjoys many long years of being alone and pleasing himself with Anew picture, surely you will show your support and watch him eh? :P

    I don’t consider holding a ring and crying for most of the series as development, just because you change jobs doesn’t mean that you have changed.

    @D=
    The battles aren’t nearly as good as one would hope, even Gundam 00 Raiser’s paint job fixed itself after the suicide attack, broken combat engine is broken.

    @Mechabao
    Indeed just because you have a conversation doesn’t mean anything, after all how many years have the Israeli’s and Palestinians been talking? Fanciful bullshit is fanciful. ;)

    Did your notice, the second and the penultimate episode, the 00 got some surprising event of generating extra more particles with the green and blue field, with burst mode now, haha. Generally speaking, i think 00 has improved from previous series. i have only watch gundam X, wing, seed and destiny. all of the mentioned only talk about crap of protecting as the reason for fighting above all else, then the dialogues all dont make sense. but this is normal, why, because it is for children, children dont bother about the dialouges, they only care for the fights and cool mechanics. take for example, i think many have watch transformer classic from the 1990s, if you watch it now again, you will see a lot of craps that you wont notice when you are young watching it. Actually, cartoon is for age below teenagers.
    But gundam have evolved, since seed, the inclusion of naked bodies and revealling of voluptious breast is targeting the teenagers and young adults. only teenagers and young adults know and are attracted by it, especially males, as male is the dominant percentage of mechanics cartoon. children below teenagers dont know what the two melons are and dont care.
    Gundam wing has fights in almost all episodes but few have strategy, mainly is in slashing melee close range kill and super big cannons, GSD have a lot of episodes without fights and generally no strategy but the fight are better cheoreographed.
    00 has gundam deployment in every episodes, most fights have strategy and reason for fighting is not solely protecting, there is also the thing let viewers keep thinking what and who? because there are some situation that doesnt have a straight answer till now, it really let you keep guessing, it make viewers to wish for the next episode to come faster not only for the gundam fights alone, but also the story that flows. i understand there is quite amount of craps in the technology involved that many complained here, but the story writers are not engineers, they are story writers only. the equations wont balance, the logic are not sound, things dont add up, in the end, the account wont match or balance.
    So 00 has break thru the tradition gundam and cartoon series.
    Well, having say all that i still agree all the craps about the gaga forces, they are really stupid, but if not, the good guys wont stand a chance.
    And is ribbons is above innovator, he wont be cut off link from veda by teira and his quantum brainwaves wont be interrupted by particles, just like setsuna.
    So in the end, is setsuna vs ribbons. no need to guess, it will be the good that will win, but that doesent mean setsuna wins, maybe bob or patrick will come to rescue and do the final blow while the two are cancelling out each other, or setsuna is slowly losing out…
    All in all, the paricles is for humans to understand each other thru quantum brainwaves, cause there will be no lies after all. and the dialoges with aliens is by mouth or quantum brainwaves? I awaiting the next and final exciting episode. :)

    I raise my glass with you comrade, to the badass normals of the Gundam metaverse!

    I too am not a fan of newtype magic, which makes the shows less about tactical warfare using awesome mecha but about larger ideals. It’s not wrong – mind you to take these themes, but I don’t enjoy it as much. I want a specific kind of magic in my mecha shows – the one that enables the robots to fight spectacularly, and not the ones that enable the characters to do god-like things. Trans-am burst/End of Eva Tang apocalypse, not so much.

    Gao Gai Gar Final is very guilty of this, but it compensated with gratuitous chunks of mecha-porn.

    Macross gets away with murder, especially in the sequels where music magic does waaay too much (Sound Energy, Fold Waves). It isn’t off the hook using my parameters – but it gets credit for making the magic an entertaining musical extravaganza.

    Gundam 00 felt like it went to where Tomino couldn’t go in 1st Gundam, if I’m to believe that Gundams were only ‘vehicular’ to his meta-narrative of writing about the evolution of humans into Newtypes in space.

    RIP Ali. May you get some Setsuna lovin’ in your next life.

    When a Gundam has a Super Saiyajin Level 3 outburst while managing to perform an inverted version of Turn-A’s “Moonlight Butterfly…” Gyn Gingham must be seething angrier at this then the time he lost an embarassing sword fight to a girly opponent. Funny thing is that Jihad Kun is far more girlier then Loran Cehak and possibly worse then Quatre from Wing. My gut feeling tells me that when the next “Turn-A” like show airs, 00 is going to get trashed badly. Jihad Kun offended many of the references of the show and has made many enemies. Yeah, he is screwed.

    It looks like my bet on Billy’s bullet veering off towards the right boob while barely scraping under the huge pizza nipple before bouncing off was wrong. I blame unbelievably forced Gundam hax for ruining my bet. Anyway, its too bad there is no badass Sazabi to match the apparent new Hi-Nu Gundam reincarnation. Unfortunately, the matchup is essentially: A girly wuss vs A girly wuss. That reminds me, there needs to be a Tomino-esque ending where lots of people die.

    It’s so silly and fanciful they should have just done a Gundam/Carebears crossover where the CareBears, who in this case live near Jupiter grant Aeolia the power of the Carebear Stare GN particles by allowing their spiritual essences to be contained within the GN drives waiting to be called upon in times of great need. It would explain why the GN burst was rainbow-colored and its effect on the people within it’s area of influence.

    I wanted Saji to kill Louise… To ease her suffering. To ease our suffering? Saji just doesn’t want to admit the fact his relationship with Setsuna has transcended mere homo-eroticism. Your posts on the previous episodes has revealed this already. I thank you for pointing it out. That minute of entertainment far exceeded what I got from the actual episode.

    High time the Prince of Badasses made his exit, as he can never have saved this show from the mess it is right now. It looked sooooo bad cause NOT ONE CHARACTER IN THIS SERIES deserved such honor in downing him, with a headshot, nonetheless. Though i commend Lyle for not doing it for revenge purposes, i still think Neil was the better half.

    The only one left to lift this show is good old Mr. Gundam, up againt Isa (That’s Jesus’ name in the Koran. No, i’m not a mosquito) Yamato.

    Maybe a colony drop (using that sprem-cell shaped monstrosity on our egg-cell shaped planet, which can be dubbed as ‘operation fertilization’) seems a possibility with Hi Nu Redux and 00 Raiser joining forces saving the earth ala char’s conterattack for some nostalgia pr0n for the majority of Gundam fanboys out there. At least we’ll have a dead Jihad-kun. Dark Amuro is a doomed character, anyway.

    Billy obviously forgot that he had a remote control to the drones or just thought ‘Hey, it would be cool to shoot down drones with Kujo, maybe she’ll get down on me later’, Then he starts shooting at drones with his handgun while deactivating them one by one to make himself look like Steven Segal. What a sleazebag.

    As for Saji, i really liked the part when Louise was strangling him, well deserved for a whiny spineless animu male that he is. Too bad the pixie dust got to her head before she could finish the job. And what does Saji do when she collapses? He cries a lot more. I bet he cried more tears than the entire cast of Clannad and Shinji Ikari combined.

    Lastly, where in the world (or the galaxy) is Bushie Bob? He better not show up the last minute like last season.

    I think the best that can be said about the Billy/Sumeragi relationship is that they deserve each other. To be more precise, the stalker and the recovering alcoholic that’s already killed half her brain cells deserve each other.

    “one has to wonder if this really is a 180 from GSD.”

    It definitely is from at least one standpoint. One of the problems with GSD is that the writers didn’t give a crap about the antagonists, and as such didn’t devote any time to developing them. So we got the Extendeds for antagonists for a while, then once Shin and crew became the antagonists, their screentime and character development got shafted.

    Gundam 00 has the opposite problem. The writers seem to care more about the antagonists than the protagonists. As such we get Patrick, Kati, Sergei, Ali, Graham, Ribbons, Revive, etc, but the protagonist’s are left to be fairly flat.

    I think I finally figured out what the problem with Marina is. The Bandai & Sunrise marketing departments wanted another Lacus, so everyone was expecting her to be a Lacus clone. They were not expecting the writers having her do the fusion dance with Lalah to become a bizzare choice of surrogate mother that doesn’t fight, doesn’t get killed, doesn’t go on to conquer/rule the world, sings, and takes care of random orphans.

    =]You say things that I wish I knew how to before I read your post. My friends don’t like it, but that’s probably because they don’t know ROTK or appreciate the confusing shit that happens. I mean I know I had to go over it twice due to the first chapter.

    I guess if I had to name one thing you might not have, it’s that it takes pretty much every named character with even slight relevance and make them important for a chapter or two. Like Liu Yao’s chapters I really appreciated, because even as Arthur Goodman as he is as a character, he had way more shining dialogues that made you think “This guy deserves to be a lord”. It’s just that he got outsmarted by the 5th. The best changed characters imo are ZiLong, Fengxian, and Peach Garden master. I mean DW PINK GIRL is pretty crazy, but those 3 really completely prove their ROTK/DW counterparts different. Zilong is like turning Setsuna into like Char, while Peach Garden goes from Thorkell the Tall to Lucius Arthorius Cassus. Fengxian really makes me smile though, as all his flaws that made no sense logically are replaced with something you can understand. How can someone so gifted have so retarded flaws? It’s makes so much sense that he lacks what others are normally given or dealing with so much because they do not have the ability to belittle all rules.

    That and real or not, overemphasized/dramatized or not, just the way they make the named characters so much more…skilled makes you immersed into belief that a man CAN lead millions just from either fame, or smarts, or fighting ability alone. They clearly show us just WHY these men stand on top of the china, and not like bullshit where Tytania dukes have less intelligence than fucking Jim Raynor from starcraft 1. More importantly is because the time frame is so ancient, it allows very basic ideals, teachings, and strategies to work along with the fact that technology hasn’t become a big part of china. You can never make a mecha series with a guy who can destroy a legion alone and people would say SURE. No, because technology closes the gap between mankind’s physical and mental ability, that’s the damn point. Even Red Eyes which I praise, is pretty much a Berserk version of Rambo or Contra or some shit in a awesome looking marine suit. It makes total sense that despite fighting a thousand, one skilled warrior can crush them due to their occupations as just rice farmers struck with fear and panic as they see a god of war rape the front lines.

    Or maybe I’m just hooked on the historical action mangas now. First Vinland, then Ravages, then Historie. Damn. All 3 have awesome characters that let the mangaka re-write the explanations of WHY things are the way they are. Specially the latest Vinland.

    @Incognito

    I don’t want to go into details, because that would involve what I would think would be a good ending for Ali in terms of Sunrise standards. But then I’d look like a terrorist fan. I’ll just say that despite being disappointed, I came into this episode with zero standards, and my facial expression never changed once.

    @Crusader

    http://kotaku.com/5183011/japanese-people-are-less-interested-in-video-games

    This is true. I’ve been to Japan recently. Japan’s care for fashion against video games would be like America’s care for terrorism and oil against helping African children learn to read after 9/11. I shit you not. It’s definitely not a bad thing, but anime/manga are pretty damn close to video games if you think about it, and it doesn’t do THAT much better. I saw more people looking at ghetto looking shoes that I can find where I live than the 11 stories of anime/manga/hentai(basement floor) building. I probably blame the LACK OF AC AND VENTILATION TOO. GOD DAMN AKIBA IS HOT.

    But I mean, I only meant the merchandise/selling of series building. The maid cafe’s are damn lined up with sweaty men who looked at me way too much when I magically got a VIP treatment by total accident. But I’ll get back on track now.

    @ghostlightning

    I understood your first paragraph, or at least I thought I did. Then I read about Macross Frontier and I just completely doubted myself.

    But if you feel you want some kind of middle ground or tone down for the Main Hero status, I recommend Red Eyes. Sure it’s uglier than MSG when it comes to drawing women, but it’s more GAR than frigging GAO GAI GAR when it comes to owning, and it’s more “real” robot than pretty much like…any of these bipedal robot series. After all, it’s frigging power rangers mech warriors. With rambo.

    @Flash Sword Irene

    Am I the only one who’s satisfied with Sumeragi’s looks enough that I don’t want her to have a bad ending? The “smartest” tactical strategy character in 00 considered by most people would be Kati right? Guess what? Ling Yao is smarter than Kati. Ling Yao lasted frigging 3-4 chapters, AND he’s fat and ugly like Arthur Goodman. The gal is just TNA, eyecandy. How can you expect more? Then again I felt that way with Wang until S2 hit, and that pretty much waved the death flag right there. If you get ugly, YOU DIE.

    @SDS

    I’m pretty jaded, so “good” story lines and plot to me are things that just read over real well. I’m not picky about what type of story it is, I just ask for shit not to make you go WTF THAT MADE NO SENSE. Not the Detective Conan OH SHIT GOTTA READ THE NEXT CHAPTER CAUSE I DUN GET WHO IS DA KILLER or One Outs and Akagi where I’m not pro enough to figure out the loophole to that episode. I mean stuff like PISTOLS BLOWING OFF ARMS DESPITE DOING ZERO DAMAGE LAST EPISODE.

    And even then, I still let loose for exceptions as long as you make up for it. Geass is to me, one of the best damn animes of the decade, regardless of what anyone else says. Art quality over 50 or so episodes, animation, choreograph in fights, art DESIGN and STYLE, MUSIC, VOICE ACTORS, all are small and ignored things that most scrubs from Asuki and friends will never understand that MAKE OR BREAK whether or not a plot hole is acceptable or not. You will never look at Karen the same way as Louise regardless of HOW LESBO RAGING she gets (not that she really did) because the way CLAMP DRAWS HER pretty much makes her FAP material to some people with a lil bit of photoshop. I believe for Geass’s case, the term we all come to know and love is FABULOUS. That term is the accumulated sum of all the factors that lets you watch the show and say “WTF FLOATING DISNEYLAND” and go “Oh okay sure thing it’s a WMD” 5 seconds later. You think that POS would fly in 00? HELL NO. I don’t care if you strap the 25th anniversary of Tokyo Disney fireworks, it would still fail. You do that on Geass? Holy crap, the laughter in IRC ensues.

    Summary: As long as Gundam doesn’t take their occasional route like with G-Gundam and SD Gundam, they will always be 3rd rate story makers that are carried by semi-cool characters which are then carried by the whole playground game we all love and know as gundam. Do you guys think MS Igloo would work anywhere NEAR as well if it was just WW2 or WW1 or some made up war? Uhhhhh NO?
    It’s riding on the established fan base, just like how Mario DS games ride the name and would be absolutely IGNORED if it didn’t have the damn brand on it.

    @uruMIE

    If you posted that on GameFAQs, a bajillion gross kids would tell you something along the lines of Billy losing control due to Ribbons which in turn striped him of his command to the ghetto bugs. I don’t even remember what happens after the trial strawman popped up, but if they were still attacking after that, then the kids will blame it on malfunction and bs like that.

    @Krono

    I watched GS and GSD all at once for my first time, so I felt it was more like Geass than it was MSG. Therefore I…felt it was absolutely acceptable. It wasn’t gritty at all, the suits had more brightness than My Lil Pony and friends, and all the main girls were at least C class hentai material besides pre-surgery Meer. GS ended also damn shonen, because of Kira’s I WON’T KILL mode.

    Well at least we agree on this: Geass, in its entirety, is FABULOUS. I say this even though it seems a lot of viewers seem to say R2 was far inferior. I have explained in another post somewhere my views to this and I won’t re-post it here. But in short: I don’t think R2 is ‘inferior’ per se, but a fitting and enjoyable continuation of Code Geass with the exception that the ‘thought elevator’ premise was quite a big FAIL. Though I feel R1′s ending was overly surreal and contrived which conceivably affected R2′s plot.

    However I do note you did not persuade me to not ‘expect’ good storylines for the very fact you did little actual persuading.

    My expectations aren’t high, but at least I want a plot that is whole and developed wholly. What is ‘whole’? A story that gratifies. What is ‘developed wholly’? A story that is executed in a way that satisfies. What’s above ‘whole’? A story that is ‘superior.’ Superior because it dwarfs storylines that are whole as they are better in some of the following respects: originality; surprise; themes; dialogue; story execution; characters + development; other technical aspects. Personally I haven’t watched a wealth of anime, but this is a scale which I’ve used for many other literary and visual works.

    MSG 00 is, at least in my opinion without having watched it in entirety to absorb any neglected content or due credit, not even ‘whole’. Why? Simply because it doesn’t gratify in any real sense of the word, and I use this word in a literary sense because I can see on some levels it may have offered something of the duration as sexual gratification.

    Expanded: the story could have been condensed into one A4 page called the “Preface to A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy”; there was poor execution; the only episode that mattered was when everyone got together for some target practice where what’s his face kills his father; the characters are not engaging – with little felt development if not annoying relationships. Despite the apparent technical prowess (visual + sound), the battle choreography is below that of MSG Seed despite the latter’s ostensible recycling of scenes. If MSG 00 was meant to be a serious reflection of social defects, it failed. It also features one of the most annoying characters I’ve seen in an anime which I have watched entirely – Marina – hell I dislike her more than Lacus Clyne from MSG Seed. At least L Clyne had powers to transcend ‘space and reality’ and become another arguably less irksome character named “Euphemia” in Code Geass. I cannot understand how Crusader has managed to stay away from desecrating Marina’s presence, especially her absolutist anti-war stance with no obvious religious underpinnings or any other explanation consisting more than one sentence written by a 8 year old. Yes Marina, go f*ck some cows.
